BLOGS.NVIDIA.COMFaster Forecasts: NVIDIA Launches Earth-2 NIM Microservices for 500x Speedup in Delivering Higher-Resolution SimulationsNVIDIA today at SC24 announced two new NVIDIA NIM microservices that can accelerate climate change modeling simulation results by 500x in NVIDIA Earth-2.Earth-2 is a digital twin platform for simulating and visualizing weather and climate conditions. The new NIM microservices offer climate technology application providers advanced generative AI-driven capabilities to assist in forecasting extreme weather events.NVIDIA NIM microservices help accelerate the deployment of foundation models while keeping data secure.Extreme weather incidents are increasing in frequency, raising concerns over disaster safety and preparedness, and possible financial impacts.Natural disasters were responsible for roughly $62 billion of insured losses during the first half of this year. Thats about 70% more than the 10-year average, according to a report in Bloomberg.NVIDIA is releasing the CorrDiff NIM and FourCastNet NIM microservices to help weather technology companies more quickly develop higher-resolution and more accurate predictions. The NIM microservices also deliver leading energy efficiency compared with traditional systems.New CorrDiff NIM Microservices for Higher-Resolution ModelingNVIDIA CorrDiff is a generative AI model for kilometer-scale super resolution. Its capability to super-resolve typhoons over Taiwan was recently shown at GTC 2024. CorrDiff was trained on the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) models numerical simulations to generate weather patterns at 12x higher resolution.High-resolution forecasts capable of visualizing within the fewest kilometers are essential to meteorologists and industries. The insurance and reinsurance industries rely on detailed weather data for assessing risk profiles. But achieving this level of detail using traditional numerical weather prediction models like WRF or High-Resolution Rapid Refresh is often too costly and time-consuming to be practical. The CorrDiff NIM microservice is 500x faster and 10,000x more energy-efficient than traditional high-resolution numerical weather prediction using CPUs. Also, CorrDiff is now operating at 300x larger scale. It is super-resolving or increasing the resolution of lower-resolution images or videos for the entire United States and predicting precipitation events, including snow, ice and hail, with visibility in the kilometers.Enabling Large Sets of Forecasts With New FourCastNet NIM MicroserviceNot every use case requires high-resolution forecasts. Some applications benefit more from larger sets of forecasts at coarser resolution.State-of-the-art numerical models like IFS and GFS are limited to 50 and 20 sets of forecasts, respectively, due to computational constraints. The FourCastNet NIM microservice, available today, offers global, medium-range coarse forecasts. By using the initial assimilated state from operational weather centers such as European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts or National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, providers can generate forecasts for the next two weeks, 5,000x faster than traditional numerical weather models. This opens new opportunities for climate tech providers to estimate risks related to extreme weather at a different scale, enabling them to predict the likelihood of low-probability events that current computational pipelines overlook.Learn more about CorrDiff and FourCastNet NIM microservices on ai.nvidia.com.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 68 Просмотры

BLOG.PLAYSTATION.COMHow NetherRealm makes Ghostface work in the world of Mortal Kombat 1Ghostface is coming to Mortal Kombat 1 starting November 19, and for as long as guest characters from other worlds have been a feature in our games, Woodsboros own serial killer has been in the mix as a dream inclusion. Horror villains have always been great fits for the severe, macabre, over-the-top universe of Mortal Kombat, and it was just a matter of time for Screams anonymous assailant, Ghostface. That time is here, and in the process of designing Ghostface for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, we had to answer a bunch of questions. How does this horror-movie villain translate into a fighting game? And how will Ghostface look, sound, and play like? The overall look is familiar of course: classic mask, robe, and knife. Although, this presented surprising challenges in a fast-paced videogame. Most costumes have physics-based cloth portions, but no other costume is entirely cloth. And aside from the robe being soft material from head to toe, there are long strings of ghostly cloth fringe trailing off it. These are just the kinds of things that can easily perform unexpectedly and get twisted up upon themselves in the heat of kombat, unless proper care is taken. Our technical artists and animators worked back and forth to iron everything out, so to speak, ensuring Ghostfaces iconic duds look their best.Although Mortal Kombat is famous for masked ninjas, our kombatants have elaborate facial animations that accentuate the action. Even among our masked characters, there are usually skin or gear options to reveal the full-face during gameplay, if you desire. But not so here, since the rigid, unfeeling mask is the outfits signature detail. In the absence of facial expressions, we took care to capture extra character movements during the motion capture performance and in-game animating so that, just like in the films, a lot can come across with the slightest head tilt or gesturemalice or humor, frustration or elation, rage or reservation. And the sound is just as important as the movement. Roger L. Jackson returns to reprise his recurring role as Ghostfaces voice from the films, arguably the most memorable recurring thread through the franchise. Thanks to the easily accessible voice mod devices in the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, many different psychos over the years have disguised their own voices using Rogers modulated one, and our killers are no different. And we do know whos under there. Scream franchise fans know that Ghostface is an identity assumed by different unhinged people in every movie, so there are many surprising and iconic portrayals to choose from. While the characters face is covered up by the mask during fights, the killer underneath is revealed occasionally during climactic moments. For the films, this usually occurs with a dramatic flourish as the identities of the killers are finally exposed. For Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns, its during high-resolution cinematic Fatal Blows and finishing moves. And our canon Ghostface for these moments is none other than Billy Loomis, one of the Ghostface killers from the original Scream film. And hes not the only blast from the past lurking under that mask, behind that voice, in the shadows. In the films, there usually isnt just one Ghostface, and thats true here too. There are a few surprises for long-time fans of Mortal Kombat with a keen eye to discover, including whos joined in to assist an OG, Woodsboro Ghostface. Afterall, this isnt the first time a Ghostface sought a little hired serial killer help!Ghostfaces moveset in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns is also one to die for. Of course, the character is brimming with bloody finishers in the form of all-new Fatalities, an Animality, and Brutalities that winners can dole out after victories. Revisiting the classic films themselves for scenes to pay homage to, deciding what kinds of attacks to have, and how theyd lead into various attacks, was a grim delight. Scream fans may have their guesses of most surprising and (pardon me) gutting take downs of beloved characters theyd expect to see referenced, and while I wouldnt dare spoil them here, we did make sure to include a few fun twists that you might not expect. We hope you enjoy when Ghostface joins the roster on November 19 as part of the early access period for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion owners on PlayStation 5, followed by wide availability for purchase on November 26.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 19 Просмотры

WWW.POLYGON.COMThere was one big snub in the Game Awards nominationsThe Game Awards arent known for much in the way of shock and surprise, and so it proved with the 2024 nominees a fairly well-rounded list in which most of the years best-reviewed and best-loved games got some love. But there was one title very striking for its (almost) complete absence: Dragon Age: The Veilguard. The Game Awards voting jury snubbed BioWares latest game in a series of key categories where it would have been expected to compete. It secured just one nomination, for Innovation in Accessibility, which is decided by a specialist jury. This is a surprise; as a narrative-led blockbuster in a famous series with slick production values, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is exactly the kind of game that tends to do well at The Game Awards. Its predecessor, Dragon Age: Inquisition, won Game of the Year in TGAs inaugural year, 2014.Granted, the reception to The Veilguard has been mixed and with its Metacritic rating settling at 82, a nomination for Game of the Year seemed beyond its reach (even though that is one point higher than Black Myth: Wukong, which did make the cut).More tellingly, though, The Veilguard did not score nominations for Best Narrative or Best Performance, two areas where BioWare games tend to excel, and which are less review-dependent. It also missed out in Best Role-Playing Game. This was an exceptionally strong category this year: Three of the five nominees (Metaphor: ReFantazio, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, and Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree) also secured nominations for Game of the Year, and the other two (Dragons Dogma 2 and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth) are unconventionally excellent. Even so, failing to join this company is surely not the result that BioWare or publisher EA wanted after a decade of development. Were there any other snubs? Perhaps a few minor ones. It was a surprise not to see the much-loved EA Sports College Football 25 score a nomination in the Sports/Racing Game category, although this might be down to the broad international makeup of the jury. The Sim/Strategy Game category is missing two games with passionate fan bases and high review scores Satisfactory and Tactical Breach Wizards either of which might have taken the slot of the Age of Mythology remake, for example. But this was a strong category this year. Personally, I would have loved to see The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom nominated for its fabulous music. As ever, the intensely competitive indie categories cannot please everyone. But with 15 games nominated across Independent Game, Debut Indie Game, and Games for Impact, you have to dig down to some pretty deep cuts like Arco or 1000xResist before you find something to get upset about.Other surprises? I dont think anybody saw four nominations coming for Senuas Saga: Hellblade 2, a game that has all but disappeared from the discourse since its release in May. Four nominations including Game of the Year for DLC, in the form of Shadow of the Erdtree, is without precedent. Black Myth: Wukong breaking through in Game of the Year despite its comparatively weak critical reputation is definitely noteworthy, as are the five nominations for one-man-band card game Balatro. In the end, though, theres not much in this set of nominees to ruffle any feathers outside of BioWares offices, that is.0 Комментарии 0 Поделились 59 Просмотры
