Teslas first 500kW V4 Superchargers are coming next year
Tesla will launch fully realized V4 Supercharger stations that support up to 500kW charging for EVs and 1.2MW for Teslas commercial Semi trucks next year. Sites with new V4 cabinets are going into permitting now. When they open next year, theyll connect the charging stalls EVs plug into with upgraded electronics that support faster charging on Cybertruck and other manufacturers EVs.Tesla started rolling out the V4 stalls in Europe and limited places in the US last year. However, their power cabinets are limited to the capabilities of V3 Supercharger stations that support 250kW max charging. The updated V4 stalls include new physical payment terminals, longer cords that can reach the charge ports of other manufacturers EVs without causing the vehicles to block additional spots, and CCS connectors (so you dont have to bring your own adapter.)According to Tesla, V4 cabinets can deploy faster and power up to 8 stalls each. Itll especially be helpful to owners of certain EVs from Porsche, Hyundai, Kia, and more who currently get slower charging speeds on V3 Superchargers due to their lack of higher voltage charging.

Dozens of states ask Congress to un-doom the Kids Online Safety Act
A group of state attorneys general are pushing Congress to pass the Kids Online Safety Act (KOSA), which has stalled in the House of Representatives thanks to concerns over online censorship. An open letter published today is signed by 32 attorneys general, including those of 31 states and the District of Columbia. It urges leaders of both parties in the House and Senate to vote on the bill before the current congressional session ends early next year. While an increasingly online world has improved many aspects of our material well-being, prolific internet usage negatively impacts our children, reads the letter, whose signatories include the attorneys general of Florida, New Mexico, and New York. KOSA will establish better safeguards for minors online. It also urges Congress to pass final text that wouldnt prohibit states from enacting and enforcing stricter rules.Moving the bill forward at all would be an uphill battle. KOSA (along with a related bill dubbed COPPA 2.0) passed the Senate nearly unanimously in July, but this lockstep bipartisan support broke down in the House, where a committee passed it to the House floor reluctantly with numerous complaints and promised amendments. Among other provisions, KOSA would establish that large social media platforms bear a legal duty of care for children. But amid lobbying against the bill from tech companies, both Republican and Democratic critics argue it could easily become a vehicle for censoring content their opponents dub harmful including LGBTQ posts for Democrats and anti-abortion content for Republicans. One particularly contentious question has been whether state attorneys general can bring suits under the law; the Senate version allows states to enforce some portions of KOSA but not the central duty of care rule. Several states have already filed numerous but largely preliminary lawsuits against companies like Snap, Meta, and TikTok under consumer protection laws.House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) has signaled that KOSAs chances of passing are low, calling the bills details very problematic last month. And while President-elect Donald Trump has an appetite for legal action against tech companies, hes said little about child safety laws so the odds of a new version passing are uncertain, too.

This AI Paper Explores AgentOps Tools: Enhancing Observability and Traceability in Foundation Model FM-Based Autonomous Agents
Foundation models (FMs) and large language models (LLMs) are revolutionizing AI applications by enabling tasks such as text summarization, real-time translation, and software development. These technologies have powered the development of autonomous agents that can perform complex decision-making and iterative processes with minimal human intervention. However, as these systems tackle increasingly multifaceted tasks, they require robust observability, traceability, and compliance mechanisms. Ensuring their reliability has become critical, especially as the demand for FM-based autonomous agents grows across academia and industry.A major hurdle in FM-based autonomous agents is their need for consistent traceability and observability across operational workflows. These agents rely on intricate processes, integrating various tools, memory modules, and decision-making capabilities to perform their tasks. This complexity often leads to suboptimal outputs that are difficult to debug and correct. Regulatory requirements, such as the EU AI Act, add another layer of complexity by demanding transparency and traceability in high-risk AI systems. Compliance with such frameworks is vital for gaining trust and ensuring the ethical deployment of AI systems.Existing tools and frameworks provide partial solutions but need to deliver end-to-end observability. For instance, LangSmith and Arize offer features for monitoring agent costs and improving latency but fail to address the broader life-cycle traceability required for debugging and compliance. Similarly, frameworks such as SuperAGI and CrewAI enable multi-agent collaboration and agent customization but lack robust mechanisms for monitoring decision-making pathways or tracing errors to their source. These limitations urgently require tools that can provide comprehensive oversight throughout the agent production life-cycle.Researchers at CSIROs Data61, Australia, conducted a rapid review of tools and methodologies in the AgentOps ecosystem to address these gaps. Their study examined existing AgentOps tools and identified key features for achieving observability and traceability in FM-based agents. Based on their findings, the researchers proposed a comprehensive overview of observability data and traceable artifacts that span the entire agent life cycle. Their review underscores the importance of these tools in ensuring system reliability, debugging, and compliance with regulatory frameworks such as the EU AI Act.The methodology employed in the study involved a detailed analysis of tools supporting the AgentOps ecosystem. The researchers identified observability and traceability as core components for enhancing the reliability of FM-based agents. AgentOps tools allow developers to monitor workflows, record LLM interactions, and trace external tool usage. Memory modules were highlighted as crucial for maintaining both short-term and long-term context, enabling agents to produce coherent outputs in multi-step tasks. Another important feature is the integration of guardrails, which enforce ethical and operational constraints to guide agents toward achieving their predefined objectives. Observability features like artifact tracing and session-level analytics were critical for real-time monitoring and debugging. The study revealed results that emphasize the effectiveness of AgentOps tools in addressing the challenges of FM-based agents. These tools ensure compliance with the EU AI Acts Articles 12, 26, and 79 by implementing comprehensive logging and monitoring capabilities. Developers can trace every decision made by the agent, from initial user inputs to intermediate steps and final outputs. This level of traceability not only simplifies debugging but also enhances transparency in agent operations. Observability tools within the AgentOps ecosystem also enable performance optimization through session-level analytics and actionable insights, helping developers refine workflows and improve efficiency. Although specific numerical improvements were not provided in the paper, the ability of these tools to streamline processes and enhance system reliability was consistently emphasized. The findings by CSIROs Data61 researchers provide a systematic overview of the AgentOps landscape and its potential to transform FM-based agent development. Their review offers valuable insights for developers and stakeholders looking to deploy reliable and compliant AI systems by focusing on observability and traceability. The study underscores the importance of integrating these capabilities into AgentOps platforms, which serve as a foundation for building scalable, transparent, and trustworthy autonomous agents. As the demand for FM-based agents continues to grow, the methodologies and tools outlined in this research set a benchmark for future advancements.Check out the Paper. Save 27% Off the LEGO Star Wars UCS Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder for Black Friday
Ahead of Black Friday, Amazon has discounted the LEGO Star Wars Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder 75341 to $175, a savings of nearly 30% off. This is only the second this time that the Landspeeder has been priced below the 10 cent per brick mark. You won't have many more opportunities to get it on sale because the set is going to retire soon.LEGO Star Wars Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder 75341LEGO Star Wars Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder 75341Luke's Landspeeder is a UCS, or Ultimate Collector Series, kit. It consists of 1,890 pieces and the resulting build is impressively large at 20" long, 12" wide, and 4" high. According to LEGO, "the LEGO Ultimate Collector Series represents the very best in collectible LEGO sets. Featuring hard to find, exclusive, and impressively-large LEGO sets, made especially with adult collectors in mind."This is a faithful recreation of Luke's X-34 Landspeeder from the original Star Wars: A New Hope movie. There are plenty of cool little details here, like the exposed engine turbine with the guts exposed, the two seater cockpit with driving stick and detailed dashboard, a large specially molded windscreen, and more. Two minifigures - Luke Skywalker with his lightsaber and electrobinoculars and C-3PO - are included. This is a really enjoyable build with a lot of different color coded interior components to make the build more user friendly, although it's still recommended for builders ages 18 and up. It's also a refreshing change from the largely monotone grey builds we're used to seeing in the vast majority of UCS models (not a fault of LEGO and more a product of the Star Wars universe). UCS price drops don't last very long, so expect this deal to end promptly at midnight, if not sooner!More Black Friday Deals on LEGO Sets for AdultsLEGO Icons Atari 2600 10306LEGO Star Wars Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder 75341LEGO Marvel Hulkbuster 76210LEGO Marvel Captain Americas Shield 76262LEGO Harry Potter Hogwarts Express Collectors' Edition 76405Should You Buy Now or Wait for Black Friday? At this point, Black Friday is only a few weeks away and in most cases it's better to wait. Dune: Prophecy Episode 1 Explained What Happened in That Fiery Ending?
This article contains spoilers for Dune: Prophecy episode 1 and details from the Dune books. When fans went to theaters in 1984 to see the David Lynch adaptation of Dune, they were given cheat sheets to help explain the strange world invented by Frank Herbert. Even though Lynchs movie literally begins with Princess Irulan (Virginia Madsen) staring at the screen and explaining things to the audience, the studio knew people would still be confused. And they were right.Denis Villeneuve managed to avoid that problem with his streamlined takes in 2021s Dune and this years Dune: Part Two, but the same cannot be said of the prequel series Dune: Prophecy. Set 10,000 years before the events of Dune, which is still 10,000 into our future, Prophecy takes even the elements introduced in Villeneuves movie and makes them stranger, compounding confusion upon confusion.Dont worry, because well explain it all. After all, if Den of Geek were around in 1984, the studio wouldnt have bothered with those cheat sheets. What Are the Thinking Machines?Viewers of Dune might recall a strange moment in that first movie, when Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) asks his companion Thufir Hawat (Stephen McKinley Henderson) how much money the Imperium spent on the pomp and circumstance to announce his familys stewardship of Arrakis. Hawat responds by rolling his eyes into the back of his head and rattling off a bunch of numbers.Hawat is a mentat, a human who has learned how to replicate the work of a computer. Why not just use computers, you ask?Well, we get part of the answer to that question in Valya Harkonnens opening monologue in Prophecys premiere The Hidden Hand. Vayla (Emily Watson) describes a great war against the thinking machines 100 years earlier, in which Artificial Intelligence began to enslave humanity. In a familiar sci-fi trope, the humans wage war against the AIs and eventually win.The patron saint of the revolt was Serena Butler, whose son was killed by the robot Erasmus. Serenas anti-machine fervor was only intensified when, towards the end of the battle, a fanatic called Rayna Butler (Serenas great grand-niece) grew to prominence. Rayna claimed that God gave her a vision, commanding humanity to refrain from making machines that think like humans. Rayna made Serena into a literal saint and added religious language to a general mistrust of machines.Dubbed the Butlerian Jihad, the movement resulted in not just complex AI but all computers, including those used to navigate deep space, being outlawed. Without these computers in place, people had to rely on the precognitive abilities granted by the Spice Melange, an element only found on the otherwise unimportant planet of Arakkis.Although Dune: Prophecy takes place about 175 years after the Butlerian Jihad, Reynas efforts arent quite as successful as it may appear. During Vaylas narration, we learn about a birthing system used by her mentor Raquella Berto-Anirul (portrayed by Cathy Tyson in the show). Raquella believed that the Sisterhood should engineer an Emperor according to the needs of the Sisterhood. They accomplish this goal, in part, through genetic engineering, which they do through the use of a massive, hidden computer.Obviously, Raquella kept the use of the computer secret and shared it with very few people, including Valya. As a result, Valya has privileged information about her predecessors plans, which helps fuel the fanaticism she shows in Dune: Prophecy.Where Is Arrakis? What Is Salusa Secundus? As even a novice nerd will tell you, Dune isnt the name of the planet in Dune, not really. The desert planet that contains spice is actually called Arrakis. Still, every entry in the franchise has the name Dune in the title, so it stands to reason that Arrakis would figure heavily in each, including Dune: Prophecy.Arrakis does get a mention in The Hidden Hand, when Duke Ferdinand Richese (Brendan Cowell) makes his play for control of the planets spice reserve. But because the Guild Navigators, the people who use precognitive abilities from spice to chart courses across deep space, are still relatively new, Arrakis isnt quite the political hotbed it will eventually become.Instead, most of Prophecy takes place on Salusa Secundus. Where Arrakis and Paul Atreidess first home Caladan adhere to the old sci-fi trope of one climate per planet, Salusa Secundus looks a lot like Earth in Prophecy. Thats particularly surprising to those who recall the depiction of the planet in the first Dune. We see Salusa when Baron Harkonnen (Stellan Skarsgrd) dispatches his mentat Piter De Vries (David Dastmalchian) to retrieve the Emperors super warriors called the Sardaukar. In that movie, Salusa appears gray and rainy.Thats where the time difference between Prophecy and Dune comes into play. Prophecy takes place 10,000 years after our time, when humanity has spread across the galaxy in an event called the Scattering. Because of it mirrors Earth, and was the home of the previous ruling system called the League of Nobles, the Emperors House Corrino is seated in Salusa Secundus. But like every ruler in Herberts world, the Corrinos make massive mistakes with huge costs. Sometime around the reign of Emperor Javicco Corrino (Mark Strong) in Prophecy, an atomic weapons attack destroys the environment of Salusa Secundus, turning it into the hellscape we see in Dune. Javiccos successor Hassik III moves the Corrino seat to a planet called Kaitain and turns Salusa Secundus into a prison planet. In this increasingly harsh environment, Salusa Secundus becomes the ideal ground to breed the remorseless Sardaukar. What is the Status of the Harkonnens, the Atreides, and the Great Houses? At this point, fans of the movie might be saying, Wait a minute! I thought Dune was about the Atreides and the Harkonnens! Who are these Corrino people?Although they didnt get much overt attention in Villeneuves movies, the Corrinos were present. The Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV (Christopher Walken) and his daughter Irulan (Florence Pugh) appeared in the second movie. However, as Paul (Timothe Chalamet) himself noted, the Corrino line had, by that point, grown atrophied and corrupt, a tool of the Spacing Guild and the conglomerate known as CHOAM.Because Prophecy takes place 10,000 years earlier, the Corrinos arent in quite as bad shape. The line still rules, despite the obvious weaknesses of Emperor Javicco Corrino, weaknesses that Valya Harkonnen and others seek to exploit.Speaking of the Harkonnens, Dune introduced that family as the movies overall villains and the initial stewards of Arrakis. After being removed from Arrakis, the Harkonnens leave for their home planet Giedi Prime, but the Baron makes his plans to retake Arrakis.Prophecy finds the Harkonnens still early in their time on Giedi Prime, which was a key battleground in the war against the machines. They get sent to the planet as a sort of insult, as the Imperium believes that the Harkonnens disgraced themselves in the war. Conversely, the Atreides were exemplary in battle, which gives them more attention from Javicco and leads to swordmaster Keiran Atreides being in the court on Salusa Secundus.Of course, Valya frames these perceptions as lies from the Atreides. Not only does she seek to restore honor to her house throughout Prophecy, but these lies also begin the conflict that will lead to the battle between Paul and the Baron in Dune. Are Jihaes Kasha Jinjo and the Sisterhood the Same as the Bene Gesserit? One of the more striking moments in The Hidden Hand occurs when a teenage Valya uses the Voice for the first time. Instead of the low rumble used by Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) and Paul in Dune, we hear a high-pitched shriek, which doesnt even fully control the subject. We learn that this was the first public use of Voice, which serves as an important reminder of the shows place on the timeline. The Bene Gesserit do not yet exist in Prophecy. Instead, Valya belongs to the Sisterhood. Whats the difference? Well, that will be the plot of Prophecy, but the short and simple answer is that the Sisterhood exists largely on the fringes of society, whereas the Bene Gesserit have power and influence, which earns them a great deal of mistrust.Of course, we see that mistrust beginning in The Hidden Hand, with Jihaes character Reverend Mother Kasha Jinjo. As a Truthsayer in Javiccos court, and his former lover, Jinjo strikes some of the power players as a potentially subversive element. But, at this point, it happens on more of a personal level than as a representative of the Sisterhood in general, especially after what happens to her in the episodes final moments. Why Do People Catch on Fire at the End of Episode 1?Although most of The Hidden Hand involves exposition, the episode does end on a striking note. In the last moments, we see people begin to combust, apparently spontaneously, while the mercurial soldier Desmond Hart (Travis Fimmel) looks on.The meaning behind the flames will be explained in later episodes, but its likely a variation on a stone burner. Stone burners are a type of atomic weapon in the world of Dune, one thats considered extremely dangerous. It will play a major part in the later book Dune Messiah, which only makes its potential use here all the more devious. But the most notable element might be the aforementioned plot point about Salusa Secundus. Prophecy doesnt directly adapt any of the previous Dune books, but rather takes place 60 years after the Great Schools trilogy by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson. Given the fact that the exact date of the destruction of Salusa Secundus isnt explained in any of the books, this event might be something for Dune: Prophecy to explore, free from the burdens of other books and movies. For right now, all we need to know is that someone is willing to go to extremes to disrupt the court on court on Salusa Secundus, which will only create more trouble for Valya and the Sisterhood.Dune: Prophecy airs new episodes every Sunday night at 9 pm ET on HBO and Max.

Bringing Screams Ghostface Into The Mortal Kombat 1 Universe
Before we truly begin, a warning for movie fans! Although this article wont spoil any specific events from the Scream franchise, and certainly wont reveal any killer identities, it is not completely spoiler-free, as itll talk about traits that define Screams iconic recurring villain and how they influenced our design. If this is somehow your first exposure to this classic horror series, I highly recommend you go watch Scream its great!Yes, Ghostface will join the Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns roster on November 26 (with early access beginning on November 19). So, who is Ghostface? Ghostface is an assumed identity used by a string of loosely related, vengeful, psychopathic murderers. Aside from being, you know, serial killers, other consistent traits include donning the iconic costume while in the act, and taunting victims through a voice modulator (and youll be pleased to know that Roger L. Jackson, the actor behind the voice in the films, is also the voice of Ghostface in Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns). When going for kills, Ghostface attacks physically, favoring hunting knives but sometimes using something opportunistic from their surroundings. It makes this classic killer a perfect Kombatant. To represent the core Ghostface ethos, we crafted the character in Mortal Kombat 1 based mostly on the original Scream, which revealed that there were multiple killers behind the mask. Teamwork is their most lethal weapon, and how theyre able to accomplish seemingly supernatural feats. Highlighting this was always intended to be a core aspect of bringing the character into our game.Since the identity of Ghostface in the first Scream film was in fact two knife-wielding high schoolers, we kept core functions very brawler and grappler-like. The goal of Paulo Garcia, Principal Designer at NetherRealm Studios, was to deliver perhaps the most throw-centered character in Mortal Kombat 1 thus far. It was grimly fun going through the various Scream films and finding the most cringe-inducing up-close stab flurries to reference when designing, motion-capturing, and implementing successful grab attacks. Many other moves directly hearken to various Ghostface appearances in the movies, like sprinting maniacally towards the intended victim and having a knife at the ready for lunging and pouncing. Ghostface can also dive to the ground and slither forward on belly and elbows, slashing at shin-height.Its quintessential horror fare for a villain to seem always able to spring up behind you, as if they have access to hidden hallways. Ghostface can use the Backstage Pass special move to briefly flee the fight before reappearing on either side of the screen, as though from an overlooked closet or secret passage. When using the Always Outnumbered special move, Ghostface produces a trusty 90s-style brick cordless phone to call for help from another Ghostface. Theyll pop out conveniently right behind the opponent, ready with a jump-scare-worthy slash or grab. While Ghostface isnt a straightforward zoning character, the Always Outnumbered special serves as an unusual long-range option all the same, and is a way to keep anxious zoners looking over their shoulders. And these background Ghostface partners arent just there to help during a special move. The lead Ghostface can temporarily hand-off killer duties to a couple of other Ghostface characters. Using both the Backstage Pass and Always Outnumbered moves (among several others), its possible to temporarily swap in alternate Ghostface background characters, each with their own unique specialties. They still use many of the same basic attacksyou usually cant tell whos under the robe, after allbut they may tip off their identities with the use of their own basic attacks and special moves. While the original Ghostface killer was a darkly overachieving teenager, otherGhostface characters come from different walks of life, and you may find some of their kombat techniques more polished, and even vaguely recognizable. One of the alternate Ghostfaces possesses special moves more tailored to aggressive striking combos, while another is a master of ranged attacks. Itll be up to the Ghostface player to decide when to stick with the lead Ghostface or pass the bloody baton to killers waiting in the shadows!Ghostface will be available on November 19 as part of the early access period for Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns Expansion owners on Xbox Series X|S, followed by wide availability for purchase on Nov. 26.Mortal Kombat 1: Khaos Reigns ExpansionWarner Bros. UK startup taps last-mile delivery algorithms to bring a nurse to you
Two years ago, the minds behind Testing for All a Covid-era at-home testing service launched a new startup. But instead of those dreaded antigen tests that make you feel like youre trying to tickle your brain with a cotton swab, the company delivers something much more comforting: a trained nurse or doctor. The London-basedventure is called Heim Health. Itworks with the private sector and the NHS to match patients with the best practitioners in their area. Once paired, the platform uses algorithms borrowed from delivery apps to map the fastest routes and schedule the most convenient time for the appointment. Less time wasted in traffic means more patients seen per shift. And Heim even ensures any necessary equipment shows up before your nurse does.Specialist care is becoming increasingly bottlenecked, with waiting lists at an all-time high and discharge delays keeping patients in hospital longer than they need, said Kelly Klifa, co-founder and CEO at Heim Health, and former founder of Testing for All (pictured top left). Our mission with Heim Health is to build the digital infrastructure needed to change this; revitalising community-based care and moving more healthcare from the hospital into the home through scalable modes of delivery.Register NowDuring the height of the pandemic, Klifa launched Testing for All alongside James Monico. It was the UKs only not-for-profit Covid testing service, delivering more than 1 million at-home tests. In 2022, the pair teamed up with entrepreneur Sasha Tory (pictured top right) to expand the concept to at-home healthcare.Today, Heim Health announced it has raised 2.2mn (2.5m) in seed funding. The round was led by Heal Capital and joined by Form Ventures, Portfolio Ventures and Houghton Street Ventures. This fresh capital will help Heim Health to fine-tune its algorithms and support a wider range of healthcare services, including furthering its work with the NHS. The company said its long-term mission is to ease pressure on hospitals and provide patients with better care.Heim is already getting good feedback, it said. According to the company, healthcare providers have seen patient waiting slashed up to 85% by using the platform. Story by Sin Geschwindt Sin is a climate and energy reporter at TNW.
