Winston Churchill (30November 1874 24January 1965) was a British statesman, soldier and writer who served as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945, during the Second World War, and again from 1951 to 1955. Apart from 1922 to 1924, he was a member of Parliament from 1900 to 1964, representing five different constituencies. This black-and-white photograph of Churchill, titled The Roaring Lion, was taken on 30December 1941 by the Armenian-Canadian photographer Yousuf Karsh in the Centre Block on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, Canada. Friday, November 29th, 2024Posted by Jim ThackerNekki releases Cascadeur 2024.3html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"Nekki has released Cascadeur 2024.3, the new version of the AI-assisted animation app.The release adds a new ragdoll physics system, for creating animations in which characters are killed or knocked unconscious, and a live link to Unreal Engine.Create animations based on real-world physics, aided by AI-based toolsLaunched in 2019, Cascadeur is intended as an artist-friendly alternative to conventional animation software for game development, motion graphics or visual effects work.Although it has standard tools for rigging, posing and animating characters, its unique selling point is a set of AI-assisted, semi-automated toolsets.Key poses can be quickly established for a character via the AutoPosing system, which lets users reposition a small number of joints, and have Cascadeur take care of the rest of the body.For a jumping character, the software can then calculate a physically correct trajectory between the key poses.For other types of motion, a separate AI-trained system, AutoPhysics, converts an existing keyframe animation into a physically accurate version of itself.Once generated, animations may be exported the FBX, Collada or USD format for use in other DCC applications, or game engines like Unity and Unreal Engine.Cascadeur 2024.3: new ragdoll phyics systemThe major new feature in Cascadeur 2024.3 is ragdoll physics.Activating the new Ragdoll option in the Physics Settings panel causes the character to go limp, either crumpling to the ground, or being knocked around like a rag doll.The option makes it possible to create realistic animations in which characters are killed or knocked unconscious, as shown in the video at the top of the story.The resulting motion is influenced by the characters pose on entering the ragdoll state, and ragdoll characters can interact with other characters and with scene objects.Live link to Unreal Engine and updates to key featuresOther new features include a new live link to Unreal Engine.Activating the Live Link option in the Synchronization menu causes changes made in Cascadeur to update automatically in the game engine, without having to export FBX files manually.In addition, the AutoPosing, Auto Interpolation and Secondary Motion features have all been updated to improve performance and quality of output, with Secondary Motion also now taking account of collisions between characters and other objects.Other changes include support for negative frame numbers on the timeline, new camera settings, and UI updates. Public domain via Wikimedia Commons Natchez warriors arrived at Fort Rosalie on the Mississippi River on the morning of November 29, 1729, with a false peace offering of barrels of corn and a calumet pipeand the hidden, premeditated intention to commit a massacre that would either wipe out the French colonists in the region altogether or scare them away from ancestral Natchez lands for good.Before the Natchez Revolt, as the event would become known, around 450 French and 280 enslaved Africans lived in the area. By the end of that November day, the Natchez would kill some 230 settlers.French colonists established Fort Rosalie near present-day Natchez, Mississippi, in 1716 as a trading post and seat of government. For a while, relations with the Natchez were relatively calm, but skirmishes increasedas the settler population grew and turned to agriculture, a more land- and labor-intensive system.Relations deteriorated even further by 1729 after Etienne de Prier, the governor of French Louisiana, appointed a man known as Commandant de Chpart to lead Fort Rosalie.Chpart was naturally of a haughty and tyrannical disposition, Horatio Bardwell Cushman wrote in his 1899 History of the Choctaw, Chickasaw and Natchez Indians. He even rubbed his own subjects the wrong way, prompting complaints to the French governor in New Orleans. Chpart would have been removed from his post and punished but for the interference of influential friends, Cushman later argued.The pardoned tyrant returned, of course, to his colony, Cushman continued, and went on to oppress and abuse the Indians who had no higher power to which they could appeal.With little notice, Chpart demanded that the Natchez depart from White Apple, a village that hosted their high temple and the bones of their ancestors, to make room for a French plantation.In a meeting with the Great Sun, as the Natchez chief was known, Chpart denigrated the Natchez, reportedly calling their leader an insolent barbarian whom he would soon force off the land. The soldier went hastily to Chpart, but the commandant was recovering from a night of drunken debauchery and dismissed the warnings.As the Great Sun and a contingent of warriors approached the fort, bearing false gifts to signal acquiescence to the commandants demand to take over White Apple, they fired a round of rifle shots as a signal for the revolt to begin.The details of the attack itself are murky. Few who made it out alive were willing to discuss scenes that were too horrific to recount in detail, accordingto Antoine-Simon Le Page du Pratz, a former resident of Fort Rosalie who spoke to survivors in New Orleans.By Cushmans account, however, Chpart was the last to receive his just reward. Though he fled to his garden, he was found, dragged forth and handed over to the lowest class of the Natchez warriors, who beat him to death with their war clubs. The highest class of Natchez would not deign to touch the blood of so contemptible a wretch.As news and rumors of the brutal attack spread, French Louisiana was beset by fear and loathing. Colonists abandoned once promising agricultural settlements, and, in an act of cruel, retaliatory bloodletting, Prier ordered the massacre of the Chaouacha, an innocent tribe uninvolved in the revolt.
