These were the kind of things I thought about while I was making this track. It has an awkward, bumpy feel to the tune, right?3. Shangri-LaThis one is a track that I personally really like. This track features scat vocalization which goes like lan lan~, but it would be nice to do a live performance of a version that includes lyrics someday.4. God RealmIs music considered proper only when it has a beautiful melody on top of beautiful chords, played with a beautiful tone? If so, is it an improper piece of music when it has a graceless melody layered on top of eerily sounding chords, performed haphazardly? Being in this field for so long, there are times when I question myself about what exactly defines proper music.5. Kina (Destiny) [featuring Yuria Miyazono]The time Sakaguchi needs to write song lyrics is astonishingly short. In the past, whenever Id send over a completed melody his way, usually his first draft would be ready by the next day, or the day after that. I wish I could say that this track followed suit, but in this particular case, I believe his lyrics were written first, and I created a melody to go along with them. Regardless, I recall that I was able to complete this track very quickly and smoothly, with no bumps on the road. In early October, a certain sector of the internet blew up over an incredible revelation: DNA analysis had identified skeletal remains from the 1845 Franklin expedition as belonging to Captain James Fitzjames.Also, judging by knife marks on the skeletons mandible, it seems as if the surviving crew had cannibalized his face.The identification of Fitzjames remains is huge news within the academic community, but also to fans of AMCs 2018 television series The Terror (adapted from Dan Simmons book of the same name). The overlap between those two groups is bigger than you might think.Fitzjames will certainly be a topic of conversation at this years Terror Camp, the event of the year for the polar-obsessed and extremely online.Terror Camp, now in its fourth year, is an academic conference that grew out of fandom around The Terror and its depiction of the Franklin expeditions years trapped in the Arctic ice. Since then, its grown to encompass Arctic and Antarctic exploration more broadly, while still keeping analysis of the television series at its core. (Disclosure: One of Terror Camps founders, Allegra Rosenberg, is a personal friend and a Polygon contributor.)Terror Camp is a pay-what-you-want digital conference that streams on Discord starting on Friday, Dec. 6, with panels through Sunday, Dec. 8. Thats the magic of Terror Camp its an example of how the fan community that originally grew out of a love for the show has transformed into a celebration and exploration of knowledge and all things polar.One of the cool things about Terror Camp is that there are various structures in academia and traditional academic conferences that can be gatekeeping mechanisms, Pickman said. But this one is just like: If youre interested, just show up. You dont have to wait to try to break down the doors, to be part of a more traditional academic conversation. We could just have our own conversation here and expand the scope of people who can just unabashedly be really passionate about this material.Ive attended Terror Camp twice now, and every time Ive been stunned by the thoughtfulness of the community and the quality of the programming. Of all the superheroes in the original lineup, I wouldnt expect Hawkeye to have one of the most interesting backstories. But as it turns out, hes not just an Average Dude with a Wife and Kids he and his mom were criminals who traveled around the country robbing convenience stores.A new deleted scene, which just debuted on the Hawkeye season 1 steelbook and is premiering exclusively on Polygon, reveals the moment young Clint Bartons life of crime went sideways. While the scene previously floated around the internet as a fuzzy leak/rip, the clip now exists in clear and pristine form, so we can appreciate just how much Diesel La Toracca looks like a young Jeremy Renner.In the scene, one of Clint and his moms robberies goes horribly wrong, and the future Hawkeye takes aim with a rifle to solve the situation. But he very deliberately decides not to shoot the man holding his mom. As shes whisked away in the police car, he apologizes saying that he missed. But as she puts it to him, correctly, You never miss.Its pretty meaty for a character whos only really interesting for being a totally normal dude who happens to be really good at archery. Did he shoot people with rifles much as a kid? Has he killed before the age of 12? The mark about never missing seems to imply that hes at least severely injured someone. Did he switch from a gun to a bow and arrow because of that #trauma?Its unlikely that well ever get the full MCU Hawkeye backstory (or even more details about how he met Linda Cardellini). And the likelihood of Jeremy Renner doing a tell-all on the Jeremy Renner app is very low, considering the app is defunct. But hey, we have the Hawkeye steelbook to enjoy.Hawkeye season 1, along with other Disney Plus series Loki season 2, Ahsoka season 1 and The Mandalorian season 3 are out for the first time on 4K UHD Blu-ray where ever you (wisely) buy your physical media.
