  • The Comic Book History Behind Kravens Wildest Spider-Man Connection
    gizmodo.com
Sonys Spider-Man Universeas far as it pertains to being a place where a series of films of questionably varied quality starring Spider-Man adjacent characters are never allowed to acknowledge that they are, indeed, adjacent to Spider-Manis dead. Long live Sonys Spider-Man Universe? The cinematic half-universe formerly known as SPUMC breathes its misguided last with the release ofKraven the Hunter this week, as the studio seeks to re-focus on the webslinger rather than anyone loosely related to him they can get their hands on. But that didnt stopKraven from throwing down some hooks for a potential future all wrapped around an infamous architect in Spidey comics history. It seems like Sony has never really gotten over its attempts to set the stage for some form ofSinister Six movie. AsKraven tumbles into its third act, its revealed that Rhino (Alessandro Nivola) was given his excruciating enhancements by a mysterious doctor in New York, and that eventually, Kravens younger half-brother Dimitri (Fred Hechinger) has gone to the same mystery figure to give him the morphing powers that made him the Chameleon in the comics. While that doctor goes unseen in Kraven, Rhino does name him when hes attempting to pitch Dimitri on going down the same path he did: Miles Warren.Who Is Miles Warren? Also known as the Jackal, Miles Warren was a renowned biochemist who taught at Empire State University. Obsessed with the idea of human cloning, Warren put his obsession into action over the cause of another: his romantic interest in one of his students, Gwen Stacy. When Gwen was killed by the Green Goblin, Warren blamed Spider-Man for failing to save her, going down a rabbit hole using genetic samples taken from both her and another of his students, Peter Parker, to try and create human clones. Discovering that Peter was indeed Spider-Man in the process, Miles created his first two clones: his first of Gwen became known as Abby-L, a grotesque figure whose very touch caused living beings to begin rapidly degenerating themselves. Warren intended to kill Abby, horrified by his perceived failure, but Abby begged him to let her live, in exchange for giving up his cloning attempts to avoid anyone else like her being made. Warren promptly ignored that, and moved onto his second attempt when she left him: a clone of Peter, who suffered from cell degeneration but escaped Miles attempts to dispose of him, taking on the name Kaine Parker. Alex Ross/Marvel Comics Yes, as you might be able to guess at this point, Miles Warren is the villainous figure who rises behind one of the most infamous Spider-Man storylines ever written: the Clone Saga. Taking on the identity of the Jackala green, furry goblin-esque creatureafter killing his lab partner in a maddened frenzy, Miles escaped and spent months trying to perfect the art of cloning, all the while preparing for his perceived vengeance on Peter Parker. After a series of failed attempts to get revenge, Miles put into motion his grandest plan. Using a clone of himself to fake his death, Miles developed his latest clone of Peter, who would take on the identity Ben Reilly, in an attempt to convince the actual Peter that hed been living a lie as a clone of the real Spider-Man. The event dragged on over the course of three years, eventually culminating in Bens seeming death. While Miles would go on to have a few more plot lines post Clone Sagamost notably Spider-Island in 2011more recently he played a major factor in Ben Reillys return during the events of the 2016 event Clone Conspiracy. There, Miles manages to successfully revive Ben through a procedure that gave him all of his past memories up to his death decades prior during the Clone Saga, only for Ben to usurp his power and even his identity as the Jackal, setting his sights on Peter through using Miles cloning technology to revive the dead, nearly bringing about a dark apocalyptic future in the process. Both Ben and Miles survived the events of Clone Conspiracy, going their separate ways again, leaving Miles to appear as the main villain of the first arc of this yearsSpectacular Spider-Man series, where he kills his brother Raymond Warren and takes his place, hoping to try and continue his cloning research. What Did Miles Warren Mean for Sonys Spider-Man Movies? Well, now? Nothing. Were probably not ever going to see anyone pick up on the threadsKraven laid out, unless theyre repurposed somewhere down the line as an excuse to give us two Toms Holland in a direct Spidey movie. Miles, just like Rhino and Chameleon, will likely join the significantly more than six potential candidates of Sonys perpetually in limbo Sinister Six movie plans. But setting the stage up for Miles to be the architect of all this doesnt just establish a path to the Sinister Six, of course: the Jackal is both a major villain in his own right and sets the stage for a spin on one of the most infamous Spider-Man comic sagas of all time. Hell, he even gives us multiple Spider-Men in the form of Kaine Parker and Ben Reilly, really letting Sony have its Spider-Cake and eat it if it wanted to do Spider-Man films that werent necessarily wrapped up in the current MCU iteration of Peter Parker. But all of that is off the table once more, now that the studio is re-realigning its Spidey slate around, well, Spider-Man. Time will tell if Kravens legacy will be in setting the stage for Miles to go on into the MCU at some point or, more likely, it simply provides a final sour note to this particularly uneven era of Sony superheroic moviemaking. Two years after its launch as a community cafe in Sammakorn, Early BKK expands with a second branch at My Paws Backyard Dog Park in the quiet Soi Yuyen, away from the bustling Pradimanutham street, and outskirt area of Bangkok. Committed to its values of operating with environmental awareness, Early Yuyen aims to provide a new communal space for families and pet lovers. The project began with the question: "How far can circular strategies be implemented in a new cafe?"Save this picture!Design Framework Building on the successes and lessons from the first location, Early BKK continues its collaboration with space+craft, an interior architectural design studio based in Bangkok, and adopts a more holistic design approach for Early Yuyen. A workshop was held in the early stage to establish a design framework focused on the circular economy. Guided by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation's "Butterfly Diagram," the design process embraced the 4Rs: Reduce, Reuse, Refurbish, and Recycle, with an emphasis on Design for Disassembly to ensure the materials' long-term reusability.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Reduce The "Reduce" principle aims to preserve existing materials to minimize raw material production. From the initial site visit, the focus was on retaining usable building components. With the goal to give a major facelift to the worn-out location, the priority between aesthetics and preservation was negotiated. Formerly a staff canteen, the site is a semi-furnished single-storey building which comes equipped with restaurant furniture. A decision was made to maintain the structural components while salvaging furniture for reuse in the new cafe. Surfaces were deconstructed and sorted, with aluminum profiles sold for recycling and part of the floor tiles saved for future use in the design.Save this picture!Reused Located at the entrance of the Paw's dog park, the cafe's design extends to the dog park's gate, incorporating reclaimed windows and door frames arranged in an interlocking pattern and giving a second life as a literal threshold to welcome the guests to Early Yuyen. "Yuyen" or "Living Comfortably" when directly translated from the Thai language is reflected in the design of the cafe's interior space. The airy interior space benefits from shade cast by tall trees, offering a semi-outdoor experience when temperatures permit. As part of the reuse strategy, the operable window and the fixed window facing the exterior were salvaged from a reclaimed warehouse and incorporated as design elements. The large operable window is designed as a key feature of the cafe's facade, not only does it provide natural ventilation to the interior space, but it serves as a frame that highlights and draws attention to the cafe's interior.Save this picture!Save this picture!Recycle / Design for Disassembly Save this picture! To honor the existing elements that were removed, several elements from the process were selvage and reintroduced as design elements. Reclaimed roof tiles from nearby buildings were incorporated into the counter bar, while outdated floor tiles were repurposed as terrazzo. The floor's white and brown texture is complemented by the grainy texture of shredded milk cartons of the Reboard on the wall cladding and the modular waffle structured ceiling. The earth tone palette gives the cafe a warm and homey vibe which resonates with the wooden window frames and furniture.Save this picture!Save this picture!Refurnish A collaboration with like-minded individuals from Athing, a design studio specializing in recycled furniture, was initiated to refurbish the existing furniture. The existing canteen chairs were remodeled with used clothes and canvases to renew their appearance to complement the design of the cafe. New movable benches made from recycled plastic caps were introduced to enhance the versatility of the semi-outdoor area.Save this picture! Conclusion To conclude, Early Yuyen is a direct answer to the initial questions: though not yet fully circular, we are taking an "early" step in pushing boundaries to explore and incorporate circular strategies in practice. This initiative sets an example of how collaboration and a holistic approach can drive meaningful progress toward sustainable development.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Khet Bang Khen, ThailandLocation to be used only as a reference. Crdoba, like many other Latin American cities, struggles to establish harmonious connections between urban growth and its natural heritage. Casa AG is situated between the city's last natural reserve and a small creek at the northwestern edge of the urban sprawl.Save this picture!Save this picture! The house's typology is organized around the thickening of the wall facing the access street. At the culmination of this circulatory journey, a terrace provides expansive views of the San Martn Reserve, serving as the ideal spot to comprehend the broader territory in which the project is embedded.Save this picture!Save this picture!Striving for geometric and material abstraction that does not compete with its surroundings, the house is constructed almost entirely using a single exterior material. Walls and floors made of compacted aggregate bricks minimize future maintenance costs and reduce on-site detailing, making the construction more economical.Save this picture!Save this picture!Ultimately, Casa AG functions as an architectural device that involves its inhabitants in political decisions at a territorial scale, extending the influence of the domestic sphere into the public realm.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessAbout this officeMaterialBrickMaterials and TagsPublished on December 13, 2024Cite: "AG House / Balsa Crosetto Piazzi" 13 Dec 2024.
