Generally we'd set off along the coast, which is only a short walk away in itself. We wouldn't head far, and there'd be no objective in mind. It was just the perfect way - chill, airy, bright - to begin another twelve months of whatever the world had in store for us.This year, we awoke to a storm: rain falling, fences buckling. A wander was out of the question. But then faced with the prospect of a grey day indoors, my wife fired up GTA Online.And behold! Los Santos was covered in snow. Flakes were falling through the night sky, the palm trees were casting strange wintery shadows, and the whole world around Pillbox Hill was covered in white. Los Santos felt clean and weird and it had that theatrical calm that real snow can bring to busy places.Here's a trailer for GTA 6.Watch on YouTubeUltimately, this was as good as a wander. Instead of rambling along the coast, we spent the afternoon bombing around in a series of cars my wife called in from Johnny on the Spot. And eventually we scored a moped and settled into delivering pizzas. What a weird game this has become: thirty minutes spent knocking back and forth along familiar streets, stopping in doorways we'd never noticed before and earning $43k for our time. In Los Santos, delivering pizzas involves some serious bank.But that thought: what a weird game this has become. Over the years, GTA Online has moved from being something terrifying and intimidating into something that feels a bit like Animal Crossing. If you time it right and if you end up with the right people, you're not getting headshotted or blown out of the sky. Instead, you're going for a cheery wander in a landscape you've come to know well, come to feel like you have some kind of stake or ownership in it. We drop into GTA Online these days not to do anything specific - generally not to do anything at all. We head in for the same reason I sometimes wander into the garden. Image credit: RockstarThis turned out to be the perfect way to prepare for the new year: the place was familiar, but the snow made everything fresh and unexpected again. You don't get much more January 1st than that. And later on that day when I checked into Animal Crossing, which has also been white with snow for the last few weeks, I thought: these places aren't that different really. Or at least, they don't have to be that different.But there's something more. Something about the way that games have changed as they've moved online. I remember years back my friend got an Xbox 360 before Christmas, the year it came out. I headed over for an evening to see what the new machine was like, and he had Kameo running, but all the pixies and fairies and whatnot were wearing Santa hats. He explained that they'd done a patch just for Christmas: this was a game that had come out earlier in the year, and yet here it was acknowledging that we had reached a certain point in time when Santa hats were suddenly appropriate. I've known LA all my life, but I've never seen it in the snow. What an odd privilege. Happy new year, all.

Bizarre GTA 6 leak appears to come from inside Rockstar's own office"Hopefully there's no camera footage."Image credit: Google News by Tom Phillips Editor-in-Chief Published on Jan. 2, 2025 Images that look to have been taken inside Rockstar's San Diego office have been posted online, showing a computer screen with what appears to be GTA 6 running. As a video game leak, the purported image of GTA 6 itself is essentially meaningless - it simply shows main character Lucia standing next to a wall and some crates. What's more, the image appears to date from the summer of 2021, three and a half years ago.What's unusual here is that the image has been taken within the bowels of Rockstar's own offices, and posted online by someone who seems happy enough to live with the consequences. The photo and two accompanying video clips, which show a brief glimpse at more of the office surroundings, were first posted to reddit by user JustLovett0 around 17 hours ago. "Someone I am close to took it when they worked at the Rockstar office for a few months," they wrote of the image, on a post titled "a photo from mid-2021. I think it's been long enough I can post this."What's shown of the office itself looks relatively generic, though it's clearly the Rockstar San Diego building based on the shape of the windows and frontage that can be seen outside. Desks nearby house PlayStation and Xbox developer kits, one of which is labelled with a code beginning "SAND", presumably a reference to San Diego.When asked whether their friend was worried about being traced, JustLovett0 wrote: "He is super far from Rockstar now, doesn't work there or in any related field. I'm not worried but I'll probably delete the post soon enough."Hopefully there's no camera footage from 3.5ish years ago."The post has since been removed, though has been reuploaded elsewhere on reddit. Eurogamer has contacted Rockstar for comment. Back in September 2022, a teenage hacker from the UK stole an enormous swathe of in-development GTA 6 footage and files. The now-notorious leak remains one of the most prominent in video game history. Its culprit was later arrested, though was ultimately deemed unfit to stand trial.

Now, Newbon has reflected on his time filming that scene, calling Astarions soul-shaking wail an impulsive reaction on his part.Baldurs Gate 3s best moment was impulsiveIn a lengthy interview with Nerdist, Newbon explained that acting requires performers to tow the line with suspension of disbelief. While the actor knew he was safe on set, for that moment in time, it is real, leading to some truly beautiful emotional acting from Newbon.After defeating Cazador Szarr, Astarion loudly sobs in an awe-inspiring, heartbreaking moment as he realises hes finally free. I knew it was such a big powerful moment that doing it line by line, which is often how we do these things, doing three takes in a row of a line and moving on, it wasnt going to work. It needed that flow and the energy flow through it to be able to go from start to finish to really captivate and understand where he was at that one time.I could have gone way big with that choice, but it didnt feel appropriate. Fortunately, we have entered a new year, and January is full of events to anticipate. In addition, leaks have shown new Destiny 2 armor along with a stylish cel-shader coming soon. You can check out the Destiny 2 2025 roadmap to see everything Bungie has planned for the next 12-months. As for January, things really get started with the upcoming Revenant Act 3. This will be followed by several big buffs and nerfs, and then in February we are set to get a new dungeon. While Revenant Act 3 is exciting, we also have Bungies annual Game2Give charity to look forward to this month. Leaks have shown some cel-shader that will be part of the charity fundraiser, meanwhile, other leaks have shown new armor that could join Destiny 2 in the future. New Destiny 2 armor leaks Red Hot CG recently uploaded some new Destiny 2 armor onto ArtStation. Red Hot is a Chinese outsourcing company that has provided gear designs for D2 in the past including such as Crotas End. Now, in December, they uploaded two sets of unfinished armor cosmetics. They are only work-in-progress models meaning they do not show any finished textures and colors. One of the armor sets is seemingly Anubis-themed for Titan, meanwhile, the other is for Warlock. Out of the two, the Titan armor looks the most appealing, especially themed around Anubis, the famous Egyptian god of the afterlife. Game2Give 2025 is set to officially start on January 23rd. The leaked shader is called offset, and it gives armor and weapons a stylish look very reminiscent of Marvel comic books. Kokedama can be viewed as a descendent of the Japanese wabi sabi aesthetic philosophy, which celebrates perfection in imperfection and the transience of nature. In recent years, the humble practice of kokedama has gained international attention as a stylish and sustainable way to incorporate greenery into homes, especially in urban environments where space is at a premium.Some of the most masterful kokedamas combine species to create tiny ecosystems or boast diverse floral arrangements, using plants in visually complementary and sculpturally-unique ways. All in all, the moss-cloaked simplicity of this Japanese art form embodies minimalism and natural balance, but leaves room for imagination.How to create kokedamaThe process of DIYing your kokedama is fairly straightforward: select your plant, encase the roots in soil, swathe with layers of moss, and wrap with string to secure. However, in practice, it can be messy and difficult. Benji Le, a plant and gardening expert, recommends the below beginner-friendly technique, which uses a tea bag to enclose the roots, followed by wrapping it in a layer of sphagnum moss and finishing with sheet moss.Ive found that adding this dried sphagnum moss layer in between gives more substrate for the plant to grow on, Le explains. It also helps retain more water, which is really important for kokedama, because they dry out quickly.Step 1: Choose your houseplantArguably one of the most important steps, choosing your houseplant will determine the size and future care regime of your kokedama. Tropical plants, such as philodendron or pothos, grow quickly, and will require more room for their roots to grow, as well as frequent watering. A slow-growing houseplant, such as a peperomia or small fern, will require less care and makes a good beginners choice.Step 2: Prepare your houseplantStart by cleaning the roots of your houseplantrunning them lightly under water or sitting them in a bowl of water can help loosen the soil from the roots. Be careful not to damage the root system.Step 3: Place your plant in soilTake a tea bag or similarly sized porous mesh bag and fill it halfway with akadama, also known as bonsai soil. Then take your houseplant and gently place its roots inside the bag. By Nerijus Adomaitis OSLO (Reuters) -Nine out of ten new cars sold in Norway last year were powered by battery only, registration data showed on Thursday, placing the country within reach of its target of only adding cars that are electric on the road by 2025. Fully electric vehicles accounted for 88.9% of new cars sold in 2024, up from 82.4% in 2023, data from the Norwegian Road Federation (OFV) showed. Top-selling brands were Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA), followed by Volkswagen (ETR:VOWG_p) and Toyota (NYSE:TM). "Norway will be the first country in the world to pretty much erase petrol and diesel engine cars from the new car market," said Christina Bu, head of the Norwegian EV association. CARROT AND STICK APPROACH Oil-producing Norway penalises petrol and diesel cars with high taxes, while exempting EVs from import and value-added taxes to make them more attractive, although some levies were reintroduced in 2023. The policy has worked because it has been consistent over time, maintained by governments of various political persuasion, experts said. "Very often we see in other countries that someone puts tax incentives or exemptions and then they pull back again," Bu said. Also helpful is the fact that Norway does not have an automaker lobby. "We are not a car-producing country ... so taxing cars highly in the past was simple," said Ulf Tore Hekneby, head of Norway's biggest car importer, Harald A. Moeller. Having incentives, rather than banning petrol and diesel cars, was crucial too, said Bu. "That would (have) made people angry. People don't like being told what to do," she said. The European Union has decided to ban sales of carbon-dioxide-emitting cars by 2035, but it may allow sales of cars that run on fuels made from captured CO2. Norway's policies mean that fully electric cars last year overtook pure petrol cars on Norwegian roads. They accounted for more than 28% of all cars driven in the Nordic country as of December, according to Public Road Administration data. "That's the big lesson: put together a broad package (of incentives) and make it predictable for (the) long-term," said deputy transport minister Cecilie Knibe Kroglund. IMPACT To be sure, while nearly all new buyers of cars in Norway have gone electric, some hold-outs remain. "The main buyers of ICE (internal combustion engine) cars in Norway are rental companies because many tourists are not familiar with EVs," said Hekneby. Still, the rising share of EVs on Norwegian roads means other sectors have to adapt. At fuel stations, more and more petrol pumps are replaced with fast electric chargers. "Within the next three years we will have at least as many charging stalls as we have pumps for fuel," said Anders Kleve Svela, a senior manager at Circle K, Norway's largest fuel retailer. "In just a couple of years more than 50% of all the cars in Norway will be electric ... We have to ramp up our charging park according to that," he added. For drivers, switching to an EV means it can take a little longer to charge a car in winter due to the cold weather. "Sometimes I miss that I just can pump it full and drive off five minutes later," said Desire Andresen, 28, an in-home caregiver, charging her car at a Circle K station outside Oslo.
