Massager brings comfort and de-stressing to your abdomen
When its that time of the month or when Im just so stressed (which can also be both at the same time), one of my constant wishes is to get a massage. But of course, its not the best time to have one especially if youre experiencing dysmenorrhea. A comfortable, relaxing massage would be pretty helpful during those times, even if its not an actual, proper massage.Designer: Bebop DesignThe AM1 massager is an abdominal massager that is meant to be more comfortable rather than just functional. In fact, it was designed to be somehow part of the furniture, like you would leave a cushion lying around on your couch or on your bed. And when youre using it, it is meant to be like youre hugging a cushion to your tummy and youre being massaged at the same time. It can also look like a VR headset except that it will be wrapped around your abdomen rather than your head. It follows the body line with smooth silhouette. It has a fabric in the front which brings the comfortable feeling even as the vibration of the massage feature of the device is shaking you up.There isnt other information about this massager, like what features it may have and also other specifications. But as it is, and because of my aforementioned issues during certain times of the month, its something I might want to own someday especially if it is as comfortable and destressing as it promises. FutureHouse Researchers Propose Aviary: An Extensible Open-Source Gymnasium for Language Agents
Artificial intelligence (AI) has made significant strides in developing language models capable of solving complex problems. However, applying these models to real-world scientific challenges remains difficult. Many AI agents struggle with tasks requiring multiple cycles of observation, reasoning, and action. Moreover, existing models often lack the ability to integrate tools effectively or maintain consistency in multi-step reasoning. These issues are particularly pressing in scientific domains, where tasks demand precision, adaptability, and computational efficiency. Addressing these problems requires a flexible and practical framework for training and deploying language agents.Introducing Aviary: An Extensible Open-Source GymnasiumA team of researchers from FutureHouse Inc., the University of Rochester, and the Francis Crick Institute has introduced Aviary, an open-source gymnasium for language agents. Aviary addresses the limitations of existing frameworks by introducing language decision processes (LDPs), which model tasks as partially observable Markov decision processes grounded in natural language. This approach enables language agents to effectively handle complex, multi-step reasoning tasks.Aviary includes five environments, three of which are designed for advanced scientific tasks:Molecular Cloning: Manipulating DNA constructs using tools for sequence annotation and protocol planning.Scientific Literature QA: Retrieving and analyzing scientific literature to answer detailed research questions.Protein Stability Engineering: Proposing protein mutations to improve stability with the help of computational and biochemical tools. These tasks make Aviary a valuable platform for training and evaluating language agents in real-world scenarios requiring reasoning, tool integration, and iterative learning.Technical Insights and Benefits of AviaryAviary uses a stochastic computation graph framework to model language agents, enabling flexible and efficient optimization. Key features include:Expert Iteration (EI): A training method that iteratively refines agents using high-quality trajectories.Majority Voting: A technique to improve accuracy by combining multiple inference outputs without excessive computational overhead.Tool Integration: Built-in support for tools like sequence annotators and literature retrieval systems, enhancing real-world applicability. The researchers show that non-frontier, open-source models like Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct can achieve performance comparable to or better than frontier models (e.g., Claude 3.5 Sonnet) in these environments. Additionally, these models operate at significantly lower inference costs, making them accessible for large-scale scientific applications. Results and InsightsAviary-trained agents demonstrate impressive performance:On molecular cloning tasks, the Llama-3.1-8B-Instruct agent showed notable accuracy improvements through EI and behavior cloning, outperforming human experts on SeqQA benchmarks. In scientific literature QA tasks, the same model achieved performance levels on par with or better than humans, while maintaining efficiency.Majority voting further enhanced accuracy, with SeqQA results reaching 89% after sampling multiple trajectories, surpassing human and frontier model benchmarks.ConclusionAviary represents a thoughtful advancement in the development of language AI agents. By demonstrating that open-source, non-frontier models can excel in scientific tasks, Aviary opens new possibilities for accessible and cost-effective AI research. Its open-source design encourages collaboration, enabling researchers and developers to refine and extend its applications further. With tools and training methods tailored for real-world challenges, Aviary sets a benchmark for how language agents can address complex tasks. It provides a compelling framework for advancing AI-driven scientific exploration and practical problem-solving.Check out the Paper, Technical Details, and GitHub Page. This AI Paper Introduces SWE-Gym: A Comprehensive Training Environment for Real-World Software Engineering Agents
Software engineering agents have become essential for managing complex coding tasks, particularly in large repositories. These agents employ advanced language models to interpret natural language descriptions, analyze codebases, and implement modifications. Their applications include debugging, feature development, and optimization. The effectiveness of these systems relies on their ability to handle real-world challenges, such as interacting with extensive repositories and executing tests to validate solutions, making the development of such agents both exciting and challenging.Lack of comprehensive training environments is one of the primary challenges in this domain. Many existing datasets and benchmarks, such as SWE-Bench and R2E, either focus on isolated problems or rely on synthetic instructions that do not represent the complexities of real-world coding tasks. For instance, while SWE-Bench offers test cases for validation, its training dataset lacks executable environments and dependency configurations. This discrepancy limits the utility of existing benchmarks for training agents capable of addressing the nuanced challenges of software engineering.Efforts to address these challenges have previously relied on tools like HumanEval and APPS, which support isolated task evaluation but fail to integrate repository-level complexities. These tools often lack a coherent link between natural language problem descriptions, executable codebases, and comprehensive testing frameworks. As a result, there is a pressing need for a platform that can bridge these gaps by offering real-world tasks within functional and executable environments.Researchers from UC Berkeley, UIUC, CMU, and Apple have developed SWE-Gym, a novel environment tailored for training software engineering agents. SWE-Gym integrates 2,438 Python tasks sourced from GitHub issues across 11 repositories, offering pre-configured executable environments and expert-validated test cases. This platform introduces a groundbreaking approach by combining real-world task complexity with automated testing mechanisms, creating a more effective training ecosystem for language models.SWE-Gyms methodology focuses on replicating real-world coding conditions. The tasks are derived from GitHub issues and paired with the corresponding repository snapshots and unit tests. Dependencies for each task are meticulously configured, ensuring the accuracy of the executable environment. These configurations were semi-manually validated through rigorous processes involving around 200 human annotation hours and 10,000 CPU core hours, resulting in a robust training dataset. The researchers also introduced a subset of 230 tasks, SWE-Gym Lite, which targets simpler and self-contained problems, enabling rapid prototyping and evaluation. The performance evaluation of SWE-Gym demonstrated its significant impact on training software engineering agents. Using the Qwen-2.5 Coder model, fine-tuned agents achieved marked improvements in resolving tasks on SWE-Bench benchmarks. Specifically, resolve rates increased from 20.6% to 32.0% on SWE-Bench Verified and from 15.3% to 26.0% on SWE-Bench Lite. These gains represent a significant leap over previous benchmarks for open-weight language models. Furthermore, SWE-Gym-supported agents reduced failure rates in stuck-in-loop scenarios by 18.6% and improved task completion rates in real-world settings. The researchers also explored inference-time scaling by employing a verifier trained on agent trajectories sampled from SWE-Gym. This approach allowed agents to generate multiple solution trajectories for a given problem, selecting the most promising one using a reward model. The verifier achieved a Best@K score of 32.0% on SWE-Bench Verified, demonstrating the environments capacity for improving agent performance through scalable compute strategies. These results emphasize the potential of SWE-Gym to enhance both the development and evaluation of software engineering agents.SWE-Gym is a pivotal tool in advancing research on software engineering agents. Addressing the limitations of prior benchmarks and offering a scalable, realistic environment equips researchers with the resources needed to develop robust models capable of solving complex software challenges. With its open-source release, SWE-Gym paves the way for significant advancements in the field, setting new standards for the training and evaluation of software engineering agents.Check out the Paper and GitHub. RayNeo Air 2s Review: An affordable pair of AR glasses to use with your iPhone
Theres been a lot of talk about augmented reality tech lately, especially with the unveiling of Snapchat Spectacles and Meta Orion. Those are both highly expensive and unobtainable to consumers but there is a growing market of affordable glasses, that provide some of the benefits of AR glasses at a much more palatable price tag. The RayNeo Air 2s are one of them, and Ill be providing some of my thoughts. How they feelFirst things first, these are a $399 pair of glasses (though theyre currently on sale for $319) so they definitely feel cheap. The front is a single sheet of plastic and doesnt really look like a pair of glasses, other than the general shape. The frames are definitely very flexible, and its easy to bend them in the other direction. On one hand, that means its a one size fits all product, which is cool because you dont have to worry about sizing while buying them. On the other hand, it means that if it doesnt fit you well, you wont have a great time. It was hard to get them to stay on my face perfectly without needing consistent adjustment. Changing the nose bridge (there are multiple included in the box) helped a little bit but overall Id say it didnt really fit me well. Your mileage will obviously vary there.Though the glasses may feel cheap, the unboxing experience certainly wasnt. RayNeo (a sub-brand of TCL) definitely nailed the packaging. The glasses also come with a quality carrying case, making it easy to throw in a backpack without worry.ExperienceAt this price point, theres no way to pack an on board battery or any compute which means you have to always use them wired with a USB-C port. This is fine, though it does mean youll mostly be using it stationary. Its hard to see through the displays, so I wouldnt recommend trying to use these while in motion, though you can certainly do it.The actual display panels are pretty good. They offer up to 5000 nits of brightness, feature a 120Hz refresh rate, and offer good colors, thanks to Sonys microOLED panels. The displays are 19201080 per eye, which isnt anything incredible, but theyre certainly good enough for reading smaller text. RayNeo says that these offer a 201 display size from 6 meters away, making it similar to a theater experience.Ive found myself mostly using these for lying down in bed and watching a YouTube video or show. Its neat for that, and certainly provides a nicer visual experience than watching on your phone directly. If you have a good TV though, these obviously wont compare. There is one thing that these are missing though, and thats a cover for the displays. Other AR glasses Ive used in the past, such as the Xreal Airs, have offered this. A cover is immensely helpful when you want something more immersive and want to block out any light from passing through. Its just a little piece of plastic that clips over the front of the glasses. Itd be simple to include. The actual glasses are pretty dim, so its not like youre getting blinded by light behind you. It just could be better if there was a cover. Why these make senseI think wired augmented reality glasses make a ton of sense to pursue. You can cut a lot of cost by not needing to include any sort of compute power or an on-board battery. Plus, youre able to use these as a display output with anything that can do USB-C video output, such as a Nintendo Switch, making them super flexible. The main downside here is that you dont have a proper operating system. RayNeo does sell an accessory called the Pocket TV, which allows you to run the Google TV operating system while its plugged in. The accessory also doubles as a remote.Apple is also reportedly exploring a product similar to this, essentially selling a Vision headset that feeds off of your iPhone with the headset really only containing the displays. For the sake of cost, this approach definitely makes some level of sense. My verdictOverall, these are a neat pair of glasses to enhance the media experience on your iPhone, especially if thats your main way of watching content. The displays are very bright, and great to look at. Its speakers are pretty nice too. For $319, theyre certainly not the best in every regard, but if something like this product sounds appealing to you, its an easy buy as long as they fit you well. Plus, unlike a standalone headset, you wont have to worry about them being dead when you finally want to use them.Buy RayNeo Air 2s on Amazon for $319 with on page coupon (normally $399)Buy RayNeo Pocket TV on Amazon for $179Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. These heroes aren't what they seem: Their corporate overlords cover up their shady personal lives, including sexual harassment and the odd assassination. With social commentary, black comedy and pops of gore, The Boys takes a thrilling and unapologetic step away from the family-friendly genre. Crime Shane Mahood/Amazon Studios Reacher (2022- ) Adapted from Lee Child's best-selling Jack Reacher book series, Reacher's eight-episode first season packs a muscular punch. Reacher, a brawny former US Army military policeman played by Alan Ritchson, arrives in a small town and is promptly arrested for a murder he didn't commit. Armed with killer strength and some solid detective skills, the protagonist eventually fends off an array of enemies while uncovering a criminal conspiracy. A treat for crime thriller fans and lovers of Child's novels. Amazon Studios Bosch (2014-2021) This seven-season police procedural, inspired by Michael Connelly novels, gets everything right for old-fashioned detective drama. We follow Los Angeles police detective Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, who's haunted by the death of his mother. While catching serial killers and keeping his family safe, he investigates her murder. Functional and no-nonsense, Bosch provides steady mystery with an equally steady lead. Documentary Prime Video LuLaRich (2021) In LulaRich, the directors of Hulu's Fyre Festival documentary explore the dark side of the multilevel marketing company LuLaRoe. The four-part documentary series interviews founders DeAnne and Mark Stidham and paints a not-so-rosy picture of the women's clothing giant, which is known for its loudly colored and patterned leggings and tops. In the doc, women who joined the company (investing a chunk of money in the process) dealt with stinky merchandise, a toxic culture and challenges in reaching financial goals. Settle in for a fascinating and well-made docuseries that spotlights the stories of former LuLaRoe retailers. Comedy Prime Video The Outlaws (2021- ) Seven strangers are assigned to the same community payback sentence in this appealing comedy thriller set in Bristol, England. The six-episode show is fun, dark and touching, offering an engaging look at its rule-breakers backgrounds and the relationships that form between them. The plot thickens when some members of the group come across a bag of cash. If you need another draw, the show is co-created by Stephen Merchant, who co-created the UK version of The Office. Amazon Studios Undone (2019- ) This unique series uses theRotoscoping animation techniqueto tell the story of a young woman who, after suffering a near-fatal car accident, discovers she can manipulate time. Intriguing, right? It gets better: Bob Odenkirk plays Alma's dead father, who enlists her help in investigating his murder. Bending both time and space, Undone is surreal and beautifully existential for those looking for deep material. Jackie Brown/Amazon Studios The Kids in the Hall (2022) Prime Video has resurrected The Kids in the Hall, the Emmy-nominated Canadian sketch comedy show that originally ran from 1988 to 1995. (By "resurrects," I mean the show literally exhumes members of the comedy troupe from a grave they were buried in at the end of the original show. That's just the beginning of the fun.) Follow the comedians as they freak out over mislabeled desserts, fight over imaginary love interests and write Earth's last fax. Be warned: Some of these sketches are highly NSFW. Amazon Studios A League of Their Own (2022) Prime Video's TV series A League of Their Own is inspired by the 1992 film of the same name and introduces new characters portrayed by Abbi Jacobson, D'Arcy Carden and others. In the comedy-drama's first episode, women try out for the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League in the '40s. The show explores themes of race and sexuality and offers a satisfying period setting and compelling characters. Amazon Studios The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017-2023) A '50s housewife who becomes a standup comic? This brilliant series from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino is filled with sparkling performances from Rachel Brosnahan and Alex Borstein, with dialogue to match. Set in a vibrant and changing New York, our delightful heroine moonlights as a comedian, while doing her duties as an upper-class Jewish American housewife. With impressive visuals, warmth and zingers, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is the full package. Drama Prime Video Expats (2024- ) A new miniseries starring Nicole Kidman may be enough to guide your finger to the Play button, but you may also want to know that Expats comes from Lulu Wang, the director of the critically acclaimed 2019 comedy-drama The Farewell. In the six-episode show, Kidman portrays an American woman who's living in Hong Kong and is one of three characters linked by a sudden family tragedy. David Hindley/Prime Video Riches (2022) A soapy drama about a family after the death of their wealthy patriarch sits tantalizingly on Prime Video. In Riches, the will reading goes in an unexpected direction, leading Stephen Richard's two sets of children to vie for control of his business. You'll glide through the stylish first season, which includes Ted Lasso Emmy nominee Sarah Niles. Amazon Studios The English (2022) Gripping Western drama series The English stars Emily Blunt and Chaske Spencer as an unlikely duo traveling across a treacherous landscape. The first episode of the miniseries presents some terrible characters and reveals a bit of what motivates both protagonists -- Blunt's aristocratic Englishwoman and Spencer's Pawnee ex-cavalry scout -- to continue in the face of danger. Gorgeous visuals and superb acting make The English worth a binge. Alan Peebles/Prime Video A Very British Scandal (2022) Unfurling over three hour-long episodes, A Very British Scandal dramatizes the highly publicized, real-life divorce between the Duke and Duchess of Argyll in the 1960s. Claire Foy, of Netflix's The Crown, and WandaVision's Paul Bettany star. Ali Goldstein/Amazon Studios As We See It (2022) A newer entry to Prime Video, As We See It earns a spot among its best shows. Starring three actors who identify as autistic, this sincere series follows young adults on the autism spectrum as they navigate jobs, make friends and find love. Neurotypical actors usually play autistic characters on screen, so the casting sets this one apart. It's also heartfelt, funny and poignant, with well-rounded characters you'll want to root for. I could let the show's glowing Metacritic score speak for itself -- but whatever convinces you, this needs to be your next watch. Prime Video The Underground Railroad (2021) Sublime filmmaker Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) takes on adapting Colson Whitehead's novel The Underground Railroad into a powerful 10-episode series. Set in the southern US during the 1800s, the fictional story follows Blacks attempting to escape from slavery via a network of hidden tracks and tunnels. Tapping magical realism and a superb cast including Thuso Mbedu and William Jackson Harper, The Underground Railroad is an emotional and chilling triumph. Sci-fi Prime Video Fallout (2024- ) Prime Video's video game adaptation is an entertaining postapocalyptic adventure you shouldn't leave sitting in a vault. The series follows three different characters occupying the same wasteland. One is Lucy (Ella Purnell), who wanders in search of her kidnapped father and feels the need to invoke the Golden Rule to a cruel post-human Ghoul (Walton Goggins). Meanwhile, an eager Maximus (Aaron Moten) gets his big break as a squire in the Brotherhood of Steel. It's an unpredictable series with humor and gore. Don't let long episode runtimes deter you from exploring Fallout.
