After six rounds of voting and more than 1 million votes in all, one game reigned supreme as champion: Black Myth: Wukong.An action game from developer Game Science, Black Myth: Wukong is inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. You play as the Destined One, an anthropomorphic monkey based on Sun Wukong from the novel. You wield a staff with different stances, have access to several magic spells, and can transform into enemies after defeating them.In IGNs review, we cited its fantastic combat, beautiful environments, and well-designed bosses as the areas where it shines. While it may not be a soulslike, its combat can be quite challenging and forces you to weave together quick reflexes, smart resource management, and versatile attacks to take down its many bosses.Black Myth: Wukongs popularity was obvious from the very start of our fan-voted tournament. It had a dominant run, culminating in a win over Marvel Rivals in the final with 59% of the vote. Before that, it had to get through Harry Potter: Quidditch Championship, Star Wars Outlaws, Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Stellar Blade, and Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, beating all of them with at least 67% of the vote.Marvel Rivals run to the final was more contested, with it barely beating out the Silent Hill 2 remake in the semifinals and Astro Bot in the quarterfinals, which was one of the closest matchups of the whole tournament. There were more than 50,000 votes cast in that matchup, and Marvel Rivals won by only 960. Before those close calls, it had to get through some stiff competition in World of Warcraft: The War Within, Batman: Arkham Shadow, and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.IGNs pick for Best Game of 2024 went to Metaphor: ReFantazio, but it didnt make it out of the first round of the Peoples Choice Tournament. Mario & Luigi: Brothership took it down before falling to Black Myth: Wukong in its path to the title. Indie darling Balatro, one of IGNs runners-up for Best Game of 2024 and winner of our Best PC Game of 2024 Award, also had a surprisingly short run. After narrowly defeating Still Wakes the Deep in the first round, it got only 26% of the vote in Round 2 against Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2.Space Marine 2 had a very impressive run overall, taking down multiple big names on its way to the Final Four. In addition to its resounding win over Balatro, it also defeated Sons of the Forest, Dragons Dogma 2, and Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, another of IGNs runners-up for Best Game of 2024. The other member of the Final Four was Silent Hill 2, which won the IGN Award for Best Horror Game of 2024. It got to the semifinals by going through Life Is Strange: Double Exposure, Helldivers 2, Luigis Mansion 2 HD, and Dragon Ball: Sparking! At its best, the Star Wars franchise is a genre mashup. At one extreme is the spaghetti western, outlaw genre embodied by Han Solo, about conflicted antiheroes who pursue power through dark means. At the other extreme, there's the fantasy genre embodied by Luke Skywalker, about heroes who rise from humble origins through magic and love. It's geared toward this more casual fan, who may have watched Episodes VII, VIII, and IX and a handful of the TV shows several years ago, but otherwise needs a damn good reason to tune in and watch something brand new. To those fans, The Mandalorian was the last time that Star Wars felt like essential pop culture viewing, and LEGO Grogu is certainly ubiquitous enough to warrant this type of high-piece-count depiction. We Build LEGO Star Wars Grogu with Hover Pram (Set #75403)The set has a decent price point; $99.99 is reasonable for a 1,048-piece model of this detail and scope, especially since Disney/LEGO partnered sets typically retail for 30% more than non-partnered sets with similar piece counts. (LEGO sets can be expensive). That LEGO Grogu is priced similarly to a non-licensed set is surprising, to say the least. The set comes with two separate instruction booklets one for Grogu, depicted in a standing position, and the other for his Hover Pram, which you can mount Grogu inside of. The entire build is quick, straightforward, and incremental; what you see is what you get, but in a good way. There's no advanced layering techniques, where you're doing subtle work that builds to a final cumulative payoff later down the road. But that also means that you're getting constant, positive affirmation at every small step. You're building an arm and hand that looks like an arm and hand, and then you're mounting it onto the torso. You're building two ears, and then you're mounting them onto the head. It's one immediate gratification after another.It's one immediate gratification after another.The ears and the head are both poseable, and the arms are attached to dials on Grogu's back, which you can rotate to raise the arms up and down. There's a small green heart piece that you insert into the chest cavity, an Easter egg similar to those in the Build-A-Bear models that you customize at the mall. The Hover Pram has no moveable parts, but it is mounted on a small, black stand, and the Pram's base is wide enough to create the illusion that it is floating midair. Grogu comes with several accessories. There's a Sorgan frog and two blue cookies in case he gets hungry, and there's also the gear shift knob from the Razor Crest, which Mando gives him to play with.A buyer should also know that this depiction of Grogu is not entirely accurate and proportional to its Disney Plus inspiration. The head is taller, for one. The figure is nearly the same size as the Hover Pram it occupies. The distinction between the green and peach coloring on Grogu's ears is angled rather than smooth something more commonly seen on LEGO's exaggerated Blockheadz figures. This is cuteness and mainstream accessibility taking precedence over exactitude. But interestingly, this set comes with a blue 'Ultimate Collector Series' placard, which typically implies that this set is as proportionally accurate as possible. It's clearly not. And yet, the casual audience members this set is aimed at are unlikely to care. A new year has begun, and Apple didnt wait long to update its list of vintage and obsolete products. This time, the company has added the iconic Apple Watch Series 4 to the list of vintage products, as well as one of the last Intel Macs launched by the company.Apple Watch Series 4 is now a vintage productAs of today, all variants of the Apple Watch Series 4 are considered vintage worldwide (via MacRumors). This includes the aluminum and stainless steel versions in 40mm and 44mm sizes. Apple Watch Series 4 was announced in September 2018. It marked the first major redesign of the Apple Watch with larger displays, thinner bezels, and rounder corners.But Series 4 has also become known for more than just a redesign. Official images of the product were leaked by 9to5Mac days before Apples event, along with images of the iPhone XS.For those unfamiliar, Apple considers a product to be vintage when it has been out of distribution for more than five years. When a product hasnt been distributed for more than seven years, its then considered obsolete. Vintage products are still eligible for repairs when parts are available. Obsolete products are not eligible for repair.With the release of watchOS 11 this year, Apple has officially ended software support for the Apple Watch Series 4, which got watchOS 10 as its last major update.On a related note, Apple has also added the 2019 15-inch MacBook Pro to the list of vintage products. That's more than double the number documented ten years ago, the newspaper notes."There apparently has been... a little bit of an epidemic on this," said a sheriff's official for Houston's surrounding county, where the body of an infant was found in a roadside ditch this summer, as quoted by WaPo. The morbid discovery was made by a landscaping crew.The Texas ban, which went into effect in 2021, is considered the most draconian in the nation. It makes no exceptions even in cases of rape or incest, leaving women with no legal means of stopping unwanted pregnancies.And according to independent research from the nonprofit Commonwealth Fund, the percentage of women without access to healthcare is the highest in the country, perWaPo. The already desperate circumstances are even worse for pregnant undocumented immigrants, who may avoid going to a clinic to seek care for fear of being deported."All of these intersectional things could be leading to this," Blake Rocap, a lawyer with the Sissy Farenthold Reproductive Justice Defense Project at the University of Texas at Austin, told WaPo. The issue is exacerbated by the state's "abysmal" access to prenatal care, he added, "particularly for people without private insurance, particularly for people without immigration status."In addition to the harrowing rise of infant abandonment, Texas currently has the eighth highest rate of teenage births, per US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention data, with over 20 cases per 1,000 teens aged between 15 and 19, compared to 13.6 nationwide. It also has the 13th worst maternal mortality in the country, with around 28 deaths for every 100,000 live births.All the while, the state's Republican leadership has slashed funding for women's health and reproductive care.But the problem isn't only the abortion ban and the poor access to care, according to critics. It's also the lack of education on the issue. State lawmakers have continued to cut funding for an awareness campaign that would inform mothers what to do when they decide they can't keep their baby, the WaPo said, despite enjoying a budget surplus well over $30 billion.Texas has "safe haven" laws that let mothers anonymously relinquish newborn babies at designated locations without risk of prosecution measures that are often used to downplay the cruelty of the abortion ban. But little to no effort is being made to let women know that these alternatives exist, let alone fund them.This is plain even to opponents of abortion."Women don't know what to do," Shelley Sekula-Gibbs, a former congresswoman and director of The Woodlands township, toldWaPo.
