WWW.VG247.COMValve quickly shoots down Steam Deck 2 rumours just as AMD announces a new processor designed for handhelds like the Steam DeckZ2 Gabe Gear?Valve quickly shoots down Steam Deck 2 rumours just as AMD announces a new processor designed for handhelds like the Steam DeckIs this a case of honest miscommunication or overeagerness on AMD's part? We can't say for now, but Valve really wants to tell us that a Steam Deck that uses AMD's new chip is not a thing.Image credit: Valve News by Sherif Saed Contributing Editor Published on Jan. 7, 2025 Its CES time, folks. This years iteration of the show has well and truly kicked off with new hardware reveals - many of which you wont be able to afford, new gimmicks, flashy presentations, and far too many mentions of AI. CES is also a time for new chip reveals, and AMD tends to bring the goods each year. The chipmaker is pretty much the only one that matters in the gaming handheld space at the moment, so theres a lot of excitement about the new Z2 processor and the devices its going to be powering very soon. Unfortunately, even though AMD said so, that wont actually include a new Steam Deck.To see this content please enable targeting cookies. AMD unveiled the new Ryzen Z2 series of APUs, designed for low-power devices, such as gaming handhelds. The Z1 and Z1 Extreme can be found in plenty of first-generation handhelds, and this next iteration already has several of them lined up for an upgrade. As part of a CES call announcing the new series (via PC Gamer), AMD said that Z2-equipped handhelds are on the way from a number of partners, the Legion Go, the ROG Ally, the Valve Steam Deck." This is obviously big news, but only because that last one is unexpected. Its also, apparently, not accurate.Valve engineer and Steam Deck developer Pierre-Loup Griffais very quickly took to Bluesky to clarify that There is and will be no Z2 Steam Deck. He also added what most of us were probably thinking, that the slide was likely intended to say meant for products like that, not announcing anything specific. No Z2 Steam Deck, then? | Image credit: ValveValve has long said its not interested in designing a new Steam Deck unless it could offer a meaningful generational upgrade over the current model, but the company also said last year that we wont see a Steam Deck 2 until at least late 2025, so theres a chance - assuming a new one launches later this year - its going to be using technology thats just been announced, or perhaps a modified version of that. Manufacturing takes time, after all.Like its predecessor, the Z2 architecture includes a CPU and GPU on the same chip. There will be three available models, the Z2 Extreme, standard Z2, and Z2 Go. The two upper-end options are nearly identical, except for the Extremes more powerful GPU thanks to having four extra GPU cores. The Extreme uses RDNA 3.5 architecture, and none of Z2s will utilise the just-announced RDNA 4.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 147 Views

TECHCRUNCH.COMApple to label notification summaries to indicate use of AIApple said on Monday it would release an update to better indicate that its notification summaries are generated by artificial intelligence.A software update in the coming weeks will further clarify when the text being displayed is summarization provided by Apple Intelligence. We encourage users to report a concern if they view an unexpected notification summary, an Apple spokesperson said in a statement.Apples notification summaries are helpful, but they can also be quite inaccurate. The summaries aresometimes funny, but they often also causemild confusion. Last month, BBC complained that the feature misrepresented a headline, with the summary saying that Luigi Mangione, the person charged with the murder of UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson, had shot himself.Last year, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Apples SVP of software engineering, Craig Federighi, said Apple Intelligence doesnt summarize notifications it deems as sensitive. Tech companies are figuring out how to better label AI-generated content. Last year, Meta had to tweak its labeling for images posted on its social networks that were generated or edited using AI after photographers complained that they didnt use AI tools to edit their photos. Google also started adding disclosures for images made using one its AI tools.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 136 Views

WWW.FORBES.COMGoogle Changes Gmail In 2025Do Not Lose Your AccountAll change for GmailNurPhoto via Getty ImagesYou are not ready for the threat landscape in 2025. None of us are. This new world is one in which attackers can scrape social media and target us with the familiar tone and content from those we know in ways we cant detect. And it can do so on an industrial scale, automatically and instantly, all through AI. There is one thing you can do to secure your account before its too late.Google is advancing its own AI defenses to combat these threats but it cant succeed, not entirely. And while the company says it now detects more than 99.9% of spam, phishing and malware in Gmail blocking unwanted and potentially dangerous messages before they even reached inboxes, much of this relies on what we have seen beforepatterns and trends. This new world changes everything, AI can tweak every email, polish copy, clinically match imagery, and even adapt on the fly.Gmail is the worlds largest email platform, with some 2.5 billion users it says. As such its the worlds biggest email threat. Successfully attack Gmail and you open a world of opportunity. As McAfee warns for 2025, the risks to trust and safety online have never been greater Thats why its more important than ever for consumers to stay informed about these emerging threats. But as sophisticated as these advances might be, to succeed they rely on each of us making a mistake within our own ecosystems. Downloading and opening an attachment, clicking a link, entering information into a malicious website not checking carefully and letting our guards down. And the one mistake we have all already made is being much too casual in providing our personal contact details.MORE FOR YOUSlashNexts 2024 State of Phishing report painted exactly this picture, with an unprecedented surge in attack volume, the research team detected a 202% increase in phishing messages in the second half of 2024, and credential phishing attacks rising 703% in the same period. In practical terms this means every inbox attacked every week, with novel threats coming constantly. Our analysis shows that 80% of malicious links in attacks are previously unknown zero-day threats, demonstrating that traditional threat intelligence and signature-based detection methods are increasingly ineffective against modern, AI-powered attack campaigns. And just as McAfee, Check Point and others now warn, the prospects for 2025 are much worse. We expect this rapid evolution to accelerate, with AI-generated attacks becoming more sophisticated and harder to detect, SlashNext says. There are two types of attacks you need to worry about. The first is highly targeted, and will usually hit you at work. This is where the really powerful AI is being deployed, with attackers mapping organizations and conducting sophisticated operations to steal money or data or both. Successful detection requires user training, strict adherence to rules and IT security. But as The Financial TimesThe second is more hit and hope, but its where AI will have a much wider impact. Mass attacks targeting thousands of even hundreds of thousands of addresses at a time will change. Most of the fraudulent or malicious emails hooked by Google or hitting your Gmail inbox still remain detectable. Enhancing the quality and the look and feel of such phishing lures, and even combining them with calls or other messages from seemingly trusted sources will trick millions of users. But outside of work, those attackers need an address to target. Your Gmail addresses will be found on countless lists and in multiple leaks. You can be certain of that. This is why Googles new shielded email addresses are so critical. Expected to come in a 2025 upgrade, these will enable you to stop giving out your real Gmail address to people or companies that ask for them. You can use aliases linking back to your real address, and then switch those off if you find theyre being targeted. Apples similar system is a sure fire way of drastically reducing phishing mails.Gmail didnt get off to a good start on the security and privacy front, but its much better now and its new upgrades make it an account worth keeping. But only if you use the new security upgrades and common sense to ensure you dont lose your Gmail account (and those it leads to) to hackers or simply through lack of use.Last month, I advised Apple users to run a Safety Check on their accounts, available through iPhones Security & Privacy settings. Google users should do the same. This will show you who youre sharing data with, the apps accessing your information, devices linked to your account and which can access your phone.Google says that to protect your Google Account, it strongly recommends using its account security checkup regularly. Its very easy to do so. Just sign into your Google Account, tap or click on your profile picture, and then select recommended actions. The results are even color-coded. Blue for security tips, yellow for important steps and red for urgent ones. A green shield with a check mark means your account is healthy and no immediate action is needed.Google does offer a big red button to better secure your accountits Advanced Protection Program. But just as I advised Apple users, this is not for you unless youre a journalist, activist, or someone else at risk of targeted online attacks. Dont be lulled into opting in, thinking you need the ultimate level of protection if you dont. It will stop many of your devices and services working as youd expect them to.Adhering to Googles critical recommendations around passwords and MFA, the use of passkeys, and safe browsing will go a long way to keeping you safe. But none of that replaces the need to adhere to basic rules. No apps from outside official stores, no links, no attachments, and no sharing your primary email address when shielded email becomes available. You might also consider a new account and address if yours has been around a while and is already a honeypot for spam and phishing. The other thing you must do to ensure you dont lose your account is to keep using it of course. Its a bit obvious, but if you allow accounts to run stale through lack of use, then Google will delete them. If you do have accounts you dont use but want to keep, just make sure you log into them once in a while. Details here but currently the timeline is set at two-years, so little chance of a surprise.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 150 Views

WWW.FORBES.COMUFC Releases 12-Year Veteran On The Heels Of 2-Fight Losing StreakLAS VEGAS, NEVADA - DECEMBER 15: UFC CEO Dana White is seen on stage during the UFC 2024 seasonal ... [+] press conference at MGM Grand Garden Arena on December 15, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada. (Photo by Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC via Getty Images)Zuffa LLC via Getty ImagesKyung Ho Kang took to social media on Monday, January 6, to announce that the UFC had parted ways with him. Kang, 37, tallied an 8-5-1 record while competing as a bantamweight with the UFC, and he has a 19-11-1 mark overall as a professional mixed martial artist.Kang never reached contender status with the UFC, but he is one of the earliest South Koreans to sign with the promotion.Kang signed with the UFC in 2012 and made his debut in 2013 against Alex Caceres. The fight took place in Saitama, Japan, and it ended in a split decision. Since that event, the UFC has only been to Japan for an event twice, with the last time being in 2017.However, recent collaborations with RIZIN suggest the UFC could be headed back to Japan sometime in the near future, possibly as early as this year. After the no-contest against Caceres, Kang dropped a unanimous decision to Chico Camus in August 2013. Facing a winless start in his first three fights in the UFC, Kang reeled off three wins in a row and seven victories in his next eight fights.Even with that impressive run from January 2014 through December 2019, Kang never found himself ranked. Inactivity was a major issue for him during the mid-2010s.Kang didnt fight at all from September 2014 to January 2018. That absence likely pushed him out of consideration for rankings.MORE FOR YOUWhile he fought at least once per year from 2021 through 2024, he lacked the consistency to position himself as a contender. In his last two fights with the UFC, Kang lost via unanimous decision to John Castaneda and Muin Gafurov. The most recent loss to Gafurov happened in June 2024. While contention and rankings eluded Kang, he was never stopped in his UFC career, and the only time he lost consecutive fights was at the end of his run.Other UFC NewsOn a brighter note, UFC President Dana White announced nearly the entire card for UFC Seattle. Scheduled for February 22, its packed with big names, two former champions in Henry Cejudo and Dominick Cruz, and a spot saved for the homegrown Michael Chiesa. Here is a look at Whites post on X as well as the entire card as currently constructed:Henry Cejudo vs. Song Yadong - Mens BantamweightRob Font vs. Dominick Cruz - Mens BantamweightKetlen Vieira vs. Macy Chiasson - Womens BantamweightEdson Barboza vs. Steve Garcia - FeatherweightBrendan Allen vs. Anthony Hernandez - MiddleweightIon Cutelaba vs. Ibo Aslan - Light HeavyweightCurtis Blaydes vs. Rizvan Kuniev - HeavyweightAdam Fugitt vs. Islam Dulatov - WelterweightJean Silva vs. Melsik Baghdasaryan - FeatherweightModestas Bukauskas vs. Raffael Cerqueira - Light HeavyweightMuhammad Abdul-Malik vs. Antnio Trcoli - MiddleweightMichael Chiesa vs. TBDChidi Njokuani vs. TBDIts unclear who Chiesa or Njokuani will face on the card. WWW.DIGITALTRENDS.COMAsus is finally making its external graphics card usefulhtml PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd" A few years back, Asus had an idea what if you could carry around an extremely portable device like the ROG Flow Z13 on the go, but give it a big boost of power with external graphics when you sat down at a desk? The solution was the XG Mobile, which was an all-in-one device that gave you an external GPU and full desktop connectivity over a single cable. The problem was that Asus used its own proprietary cable design and connection, limiting the flexibility of its external graphics. At CES 2025, Asus is finally addressing that problem.Recommended VideosThe 2025 XG Mobile ditches Asus proprietary connection in favor of Thunderbolt 5, allowing you to use it with virtually any device with a Thunderbolt connection. That includes older devices with Asus XG connection, such as the original ROG Ally, as well as devices packing a Thunderbolt 3 or 4 port. Asus claims its new XG Mobile is fully backward compatible, and optimizes the full speed of the Thunderbolt connection.Get your weekly teardown of the tech behind PC gaming Its not just a new connection, either. Asus redesigned the XG Mobile from top to bottom. Internally, Asus says the 2025 XG Mobile is 3 decibels quieter than the previous version, largely due to a new vapor chamber design, which Asus says offers 54% more cooling surface area. The company also says its the thinnest and lightest external GPU it has ever made, clocking in at 1.2 inches thick and 2.1 pounds.RelatedFor connectivity, Asus includes HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1, an SD card reader, and dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, along with the Thunderbolt 5 connection, of course. The external shell has been redesigned as well, now sporting a semi-transparent case and RGB lighting that you can customize with Asus Armoury Crate software.Luke Larsen / Digital TrendsThe big question about this external GPU is, well, the GPU. Asus says the 2025 XG Mobile will include Nvidias new RTX 50-series mobile GPUs, but it hasnt shared which graphics cards out of the new lineup the XG Mobile will pack. The previous version offered up to an RTX 4090, though its possible Asus will scale down to accommodate the smaller size.Although the 2025 XG Mobile solves the connectivity issue, it could still encounter software issues. Thats certainly what I experienced when using the XG Mobile with the ROG Ally, as driver conflicts caused full system crashes in some cases. Price has been an issue with the XG Mobile in the past as well the external GPU alone can cost as much or more than the device youre plugging it into.Well just have to wait until the 2025 XG Mobile is here to see if Asus has solved those problems. Asus hasnt revealed pricing or release date details yet, though the 2025 XG Mobile should show up around the time Asus rolls out its 2025 gaming laptops, which begins in February.Editors Recommendations0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 151 Views

WWW.ARCHDAILY.COMWood Up Tower / LAN ArchitectureWood Up Tower / LAN ArchitectureSave this picture! Daisy ReilletArchitects: LAN ArchitectureAreaArea of this architecture projectArea:8949 mYearCompletion year of this architecture project Year: 2024 PhotographsPhotographs: More SpecsLess SpecsSave this picture!Text description provided by the architects. Urbanity - First and foremost, this architecture plays a vital role in the large-scale urban project known as Paris Rive Gauche. This development initiative encompasses the entire eastern side of the 13th arrondissement, with foundational principles focused on establishing connections and continuity between the neighborhoods of the 13th arrondissement and the Seine, as well as between Paris and Ivry. To facilitate these connections in this intricate area, the urban project utilizes the existing road infrastructure to create a neighborhood in the Massena-Bruneseau sector, which will rise and shape a new urban landscape on a metropolitan scale along the banks of the Seine. Wood Up serves as a cornerstone of this new urban identity. The building aims to redefine the Seine's waterfront and the Boulevard du Gnral d'Arme Jean Simon by acting as a pivotal connection between their differing elevation levels. Thanks to the spacing between the buildings along the Seine, the absence of construction to the north, and the careful shaping of the east-west volumes, the tower integrates into the broader urban landscapeone that includes the bridges over the Seine, the ring road, and other roadways. Like a cathedral, this architecture lends itself to various interpretations depending on the viewer's distance.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Housing - The second narrative focuses on the primary function of the project: living. Wood Up embodies the concept of collective housing that offers the same qualities and advantages as a single-family homesuch as privacy, private outdoor space, independence, and sensory connection to the outside worldwhile minimizing environmental impact by reducing infrastructure's network and visual and atmospheric pollution. Additionally, it provides communal spaces that promote social interaction. The goal is to create a transitional form of housing that harmonizes the desire for privacy with the enjoyment of community living. Residents can relish abundant light, space, comfort, and flexibility in their houses, while also having the opportunity to gather with neighbors on a 300 m terrace boasting stunning views of Paris, in a roof garden, in the spacious entrance hall, or the generously sized, naturally lit corridors.Save this picture! The Typologies - The 132-unit project is founded on a straightforward concept: for each large apartment on one floor, two smaller units are situated directly above the next floor. This design alternates larger apartment types, ranging from T3 to T5, with floors exclusively dedicated to T1 and T2 units, while duplexes are positioned at the corners of the building. This arrangement enables a high level of diversity within the structure and provides significant flexibility due to its regular, repetitive layout, allowing for long-term vertical combinations of different building types. In addition to the 700 m of roof space, residents of Wood Up benefit from over 1,700 m of outdoor areas, which include 800 m of private terraces and 500 m of communal terraces.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The Common Terrace on the 8th Floor - The space on the 8th floor is an example of this concept. Spanning approximately 300 m, it measures 23x10 meters, comparable to the size of a tennis court, a concert hall for 150 seated guests, or two dojos. Positioned as a hybrid between a covered courtyard, a loggia, and a viewing area overlooking Paris and Ivry, this versatile space accommodates both spontaneous, informal daily activities and organized events for up to 300 participants. Additionally, residents have access to modular furniture made from recycled wood offcuts from the building.Save this picture!Save this picture!Technology and Environment - Wood Up is one of the first buildings in France to surpass the typical height limits for timber constructions. This innovative project serves as a demonstration that architecture can play a crucial role in the fight against climate change. As a building material, wood offers numerous environmental and economic benefits: it absorbs CO2 during its growth and retains this carbon throughout the building's lifespan. Furthermore, wood is a renewable resource when it comes from sustainably managed forests (such as those certified by PEFC or FSC). From an energy perspective, wood requires minimal energy for harvesting, processing, and installation, while also bolstering the local economy by utilizing local resources and creating jobs that cannot be outsourced. Additionally, timber construction, often paired with prefabrication techniques, allows for quicker and more efficient completion of building projects.Save this picture!Structure and Materials - The building's structure consists of several key components: A concrete base and infrastructure, from the ground floor to the first floor, a primary load-bearing framework composed of glulam posts and beams, a concrete bracing system, featuring a central core and wall elements, a secondary framework of glulam beams and mixed wood and concrete floors. All the timber used in this project is sourced from France and transported via the Seine River. This selection is based on a carefully studied combination that considers the unique properties of each wood type and their specific roles within the structure. The interior posts are crafted from beech, a dense hardwood that provides excellent compression resistance, allowing for more efficient use of space. The interior beams are made from spruce, a softwood known for its superior bending strength compared to beech. Meanwhile, the exterior posts and encapsulation elements are constructed from Douglas fir, a softwood recognized for its enhanced resistance to humidity (Class 3). Additionally, all offcuts and remnants from the wooden elements have been repurposed to create furniture for the building's communal areas.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:3-7 Boulevard du Gnral Jean Simon, Paris, FranceLocation to be used only as a reference. Against this backdrop, we still aim to create an experience of space isolated from the world. Thus, we have joined forces with the client and the community to initiate the 'Island Living Plan.' This plan will create a series of island cabins and explore the possibilities of returning to nature through different spatial forms. 'The Cabin of Maze' is part of the natural co-construction plan and represents the first island cabin completed by Wiki World.Save this picture!Save this picture!Be lost once at home, 13 Rooms connected - The site is a slender island, and it is planned to build 5 wilderness cabins. Compared with the previous single-family wooden cabin and predictable floor plan, friends in the community hope to live in a "blurred" way. Maybe sometimes we are a bit tired of precise spatial relationships, what if, we could hike within the cabin and even get lost once in there?Save this picture! So the design is transformed into a 'cabin-finding' game. 13 modules of bedrooms, living rooms, and bathrooms are scattered on the island, connected by a 100-meter-long, 80-centimeter-wide black corridor. The corridor is sometimes a mini-yard, and sometimes it opens up to the sky indoors. Combined with the irregular angles of the island's topography, the corridor connects all the rooms and provides privacy for the living space.Save this picture!Save this picture!Walking through the black corridor with a skylight on top, it feels like you are traveling in nature. The irregular angles of the corridor bring about spatial disorientation and some surprises when you arrive. Children especially like the maze cabin. They run around and shout with friends, maybe children have the right to get lost.Save this picture!Save this picture!Independence and Emergence - 'The Maze Cabin' is a large cabin, also 5 small cabins together. The 100-meter-long black corridor is equipped with flexible partitions that can separate groups independently. By opening and closing, the space can be flexibly divided into 5 independent units with complete living functions.Save this picture! The guests who live here are inseparable from each other. Your friends may live at the end of the 100-meter corridor, and you will meet familiar family members on the path. It seems like you are traveling through the cross-section of childhood neighborhood life, which is different from other wilderness homes of Wiki World. Compared with loneliness, the maze cabin attempts to present the community relationship in a tribe, a balanced state of independence and aggregation. The maze cabin is still a kind of solitary residence, requiring a boat ride to reach each other's docks. You can look up at the sky in your own maze, or you can knock on the neighbor's door and say hello.Save this picture!Wiki World-Build Small, Dream Big - Wiki World has been committed to returning to natural life through natural construction. The maze cabin continues such a natural wildhouse experiment, jumping out of the inertia of the size of the thinking, focusing on the relationship between living behavior and environment, the answer of space must be far from the daily living experience, even a little paranoid. The maze makes home blurred, 'Small' brings us closer to the material, so we are more sensitive. Now that we are in the forest, let's go barefoot for a day and listen to the sound of dead leaves being crushed on the terrace.Save this picture!Build Naturally - Natural buildings can be built like Lego. Little cabins, like building blocks, were placed in the forest. We stick to the original wild wood construction technique that we hand-fired the faade of the carbonized wood boards. The cabins are all connected by small metal components that can be repeatedly assembled. We try to create a precise relationship between the cabins and the environment in nature. Each wooden cabin is elevated above the ground, and no walls or artificial landscapes are used.
