9TO5MAC.COMNew AirTag Max could be Apples next best move after AirTag 2AirTag 2 is launching this year, about four years after AirTag first debuted. There are some nice upgrades coming to AirTag 2, but what I really want is for the company to expand the lineup: its time for an AirTag Max.AirTag battery can be annoying, but an add-on accessory fixes itAirTags come with a lot of great use cases. But for me, Ive always been lukewarm on the device because of the battery issue.Remembering to change out AirTag batteries is an annoyance I dont want to deal with. Sure, an iPhone notification will tell you when to do it. But the battery drains faster than Id like, and Im not always able to change the battery right when I get an alert. Plus, doing this for multiple AirTags can mean I have the feeling of constantly changing batteries.Thats why I was so excited to discover the new TimeCapsule product that extends an AirTags battery life so it lasts up to 10 years.TimeCapsule is a clever workaround for solving my biggest AirTag problem. It adds a fair amount of bulk to the AirTag, so its not ideal for all use cases. But for lots of AirTag needs, a TimeCapsule is great. It also got me thinking: why doesnt Apple do this?Apple should make an AirTag MaxApple could expand its AirTag lineup by launching not just the AirTag 2, but also a new AirTag Max product.AirTag Max would do basically what TimeCapsule does today: offer significantly longer battery life in exchange for a bulkier case.10 years of battery for an AirTag with no add-ons required? Sign me up.When youre throwing AirTag Max into your luggage, or car, the size of the AirTag really makes no difference.I suspect that Apple could even make AirTag Max small enough to still be an okay fit for bulkier keychains.Growing the AirTag product line with AirTag Max seems like a very Apple move. In fact, Im kind of surprised the company hasnt done so yet.Heres hoping, though, that if AirTag 2 is well received, Apple will be able to follow it up with a new AirTag Max in the future.Would you buy an AirTag Max? 9TO5MAC.COMRumor Replay: New iPads on the way, Apple Invites app, and moreThis is Rumor Replay, a weekly column at 9to5Mac offering a quick rundown of the most recent Apple product rumors, with analysis and commentary. Today: new iPads are on the way, plus a curious iOS Invites app, and more. Here are this weeks Apple rumors.New iPads and iPhone SE 4 launching by AprilThere was a rumor this week widely misconstrued as claiming new iPads and the iPhone SE 4 would be launching as early as January. Mark Gurman quickly refuted the idea, and in the process offered his own expected timeline. He said that new iPads and the iPhone SE 4 would be coming by April, some time before iOS 18.4 launches. My takeawaysThis rumor mostly just confirms what we were already expecting, but with a potential iPad Air tidbit. The forthcoming iPhone SE 4 and new base iPad were always rumored to launch around March. But Gurman references iPads plural in his post, which presumably references the forthcoming M3 iPad Air.Gurman had previously mentioned the new iPad Air would debut around the same time as the iPhone SE 4, but since we just got the M2 Air last May, I personally wasnt expecting the M3 revision until April at the earliest, and more likely May or June. Such a release could still fit the around the same time window. Now though, it sounds like the new iPad Air may debut in March at the same time as a revised base iPad and iPhone SE.Invites app in the works at AppleThis week my 9to5Mac colleague Filipe Espsito exclusively reported on signs of Apple developing a new Invites app. Code was discovered in the latest iOS 18.3 beta to indicate ongoing work of the app, which could be a standalone app or possibly integrated into other parts of iOS like iMessage. My takeawaysVery little is known about this potential app. My initial thought, though, is that it sounds more like a new feature set than a full-blown app. I could definitely see Apple bring an upgraded invite system to the Calendar app. And maybe even make an API thats used by other built-in iOS apps or even third-party calendars.Fantastical, for example, offers a great system for managing calendar invites, polling invitees for availability, and sharing a bookable schedule with others. Apples Calendar app could use similar upgradesall of which may potentially be covered by Invites.iPhone 17 Pro design changeIts becoming more clear that Apple is planning to bring design changes not just to the iPhone 17 Air, but its 17 Pro line too.The latest on that front: Weibo leakerFixed-focus digital shared that the iPhone 17 Pro will use a slope rather than a step for the connection between the back shell and the main body.My takeawaysIts hard to read too much into this leak, since its a translation and doesnt seem entirely clear anyways. It sounds like the iPhone 17 Pro may go back to more of a curved sides design. Every model since the iPhone 12 has used flatter sides. This could go hand-in-hand with the shift toward an aluminum frame, as has been reported elsewhere. Personally, I do like curved sides on the iPhone. However, iPhone sizes have increased recently, so Im concerned curved sides could negatively impact grip. What do you make of this weeks Apple rumors? FUTURISM.COMUnitedHealthcare Calls Doctor Mid Surgery To Ask If Her Patients Overnight Stay Is NecessaryImage by Getty / FuturismDevelopmentsDespite being the subject of a full month of scrutiny in the wake of its CEO's murder, UnitedHealthcare is, somehow, still going to extreme lengths to deny health insurance claims and one surgeon has taken to social media to speak out about it.In a post on TikTok, Texas surgeon Elisabeth Potter was flabbergasted by a recent exchange she'd had with a UHC representative who called her when she was in the middle of a procedure to ask if the patient's overnight stay was necessary."It's 2025," the Austin-based plastic surgeon declared, "and insurance just keeps getting worse."UnitedHealthcare has become the epicenter of a fierce debate surrounding the systematic denial of health insurance claims in the US. Case in point, the company went as far as to deploy an error-prone AI algorithm in 2023 to override claims to elderly patients that had been approved by their doctors. @drelisabethpotter Its 2025, and navigating insurance has somehow gotten even more out of control I just performed two bilateral DIEP flap surgeries and two bilateral tissue expander surgeries. During one of the DIEP cases, I was interrupted by a call from United Healthcarewhile the patient was already asleep on the operating table. They demanded information about her diagnosis and inpatient stay justification. I had to scrub out mid-surgery to call United, only to find that the person on the line didnt even have access to the patients full medical information, despite the procedure already being pre-approved. Its beyond frustrating and, frankly, unacceptable. Patients and providers deserve better than this. We should be focused on care, not bureaucracy. I just have no other words at this point original sound - Dr. Elisabeth Potter During a breast reconstruction procedure, Potter said she was contacted in the operating room and told that a UHC rep had called and needed to speak to her right away about the patient she was operating on. She scrubbed out and gave the "gentleman," a call only to be questioned about the woman's diagnosis and "whether her inpatient stay should be justified.""I was like, 'do you understand that she's asleep right now and she has breast cancer?'" Potter recounted. "And the gentleman said, 'actually, I don't that's a different department that would know that information.'"Clearly perturbed, Potter told the representative that the overnight post-surgery stay was indeed necessary and that moreover, UHC should already have that information because the surgery had already been approved."'I need to go back,'" she recalled telling the man, "'and be with my patient now.'"The incident highlights a fundamentally deficient and notoriously greedy health insurance system in the United States. UnitedHealthcare, the country's largest health insurer, has played a major role, garnering a reputation for doing everything in its power to save money by denying coverage. As Potter explained, she'd never had anything quite like that happen during her career as a surgeon. For all the stories we've heard about cruel claim denials in the month since Brian Thompson's murder, the incident stands out."It's out of control," the surgeon concluded. "Insurance is out of control. I have no other words."Share This Article0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 109 Views

FUTURISM.COMA Boeing Jet's Nose Was Caught on Video Suddenly Collapsing to the Ground"We can already confirm that no technical problem is at the origin of this incident."Nasal PassageIn Belgium, a Boeing 737 jetliner quite literally fell on its nose and the airline behind it is stumped as to what happened. As Dutch-language Het Laatste Nieuwsindicates, the nose landing gear of the TUI airlines-operated 737, which had landed earlier on the morning of January in Brussels after a flight from Spain, appeared to abruptly collapse while the jet was parked.Luckily, no passengers were on board the jet at the time, and the all-Boeing airline confirmed that there were no injuries sustained during the bizarre incident that quickly spread on social media after onlookers posted images and videos of the collapse.Till I CollapseIn an interview with HLN, aviation journalist Luk de Wilde called the collapse "exceptional" but said it probably doesn't represent quite as huge a safety hazard as it would appear at first."When an aircraft lands, the landing gear retracts," he explained, "and thanks to gravity and the weight of an aircraft, that will always happen."De Wilde conjectured that the cause was "probably a human error by maintenance personnel or the crew" an admission that TUI itself does not seem ready to make."We will carry out an in-depth analysis of the situation in consultation with the authorities," TUI said in a statement, "but we can already confirm that no technical problem is at the origin of this incident."Bad News BearsThe timing of this nasal failure couldn't be worse for TUI, which in recent months has taken media heat after repeated incidents drew scrutiny in the wake of Boeing's own safety issues and internal crises following last January's door blowout incident.Just a few weeks ago, one of the airline's flight attendants was hospitalized after stepping out of the cabin without realizing its stairs had already been retracted, falling hard to the ground.Back in August, passengers on another TUI flight were forced to evacuate after a fire broke out in the cargo hold of yet another 737 after it had landed. Belgian comedian Gunter Lamoot toldHLN after that incident that the scene was particularly strange because the landing had gone off without a hitch, and people had even applauded the pilots before the evacuation order was issued.Between these anxiety-inducing occurrences and the two separate reports about TUI's safety failures issued in the latter half of 2024, things aren't looking great for the destination airline, which primarily shepherds passengers from Belgium and the United Kingdom to various vacation spots. Then again, things are probably worse for the manufacturer that provides its planes.More on plane panic: Former NASA Astronaut Puzzled by Metallic Orbs He Encountered While FlyingShare This Article0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 114 Views

SCREENCRUSH.COMCillian Murphy Is Not in 28 Years LaterDespite rumors to the contrary, Cillian Murphy is not in28 Years Later.Thats according to the movies producer, Andrew Macdonald. He toldEmpire Magazinethat while director Danny Boyle wanted Murphy, who starred in the first film in the series, 2002s 28 Days Later, to return for the new film, it didnt quite work out this time. However, the door is open for Murphy to appear in one of the additional sequels that are already in the works.[On] this, we wanted him to be involved and he wanted to be involved, Macdonald said. He is not in the first film, but Im hoping there will be some Jim somewhere along the line.SearchlightSonyloading...READ MORE: The Most Anticipated Movies of 2025Murphy was28 Days Laters hero Jim, who awakens from a coma in an abandoned London decimated by an viral outbreak that turns people into zombies. He manages to escape the city and survive (although not in most of the movies alternate endings, which Boyleinitially preferred but eventually ditched in favor of a more upbeat conclusion).Early reports about28 Years Later teased that Murphy would appear in some sort of supporting role and online sleuths speculated one of the striking zombies in the trailer for28 Years Laterwas anzombified Murphy. That was not correct, and neither were the rumors about Murphy.28 Years Laterinstead stars Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Ralph Fiennes.28 Years Lateris scheduled to open in theaters on June 20. The movie is the first in a planned trilogy of sequels; the next installment,28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, has already been shot. So its possible Murphy could appear in that film or the subsequent third movie.(I would hope we can work with him in some way in the future, Macdonald added.)Get our free mobile app80s Movies That Could Never Be Made Today0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 152 Views

WWW.CNET.COMWe Tested an Electric Salt Spoon That Might Help You Stick to Your Low-Sodium DietLet's be honest: Most low-sodium foods aren't that great, which makes it difficult for many of us to make the swap to lower our blood pressure and fend off heart disease. Among the gadgets and new tech at CES might be the solution to that problem. The Kirin Electric Salt Spoon can give your food a salty taste with none of the downsides of the added sodium. It was one of the standout products at CES this year and snagged the spot for the best weird tech on our CES awards list. The device sends electricity from the spoon to your tongue to give you the sensation of saltiness. Trust me, you're not the only one thinking that electricity and tongues generally don't mix. Thankfully, it's a weak electric current. CES 2025: We're Obsessed With These 28 New Products So Far See all photos The Kirin Electric Salt Spoon comes in two pieces: the spoon and the detachable handle, which houses all the tech pieces. The handle has menu buttons for changing the four saltiness levels. The spoon is pretty chunky in hand, though it's not entirely surprising with the batteries and electronic parts inside. While the idea is cool, we have to admit that while testing the Kirin Electric Salt Spoon, we thought it was OK. The best way to describe the flavor change of the broth provided at the demo was that it tasted more "full" when the charge was going. The taste difference was slightly noticeable between the intensities. Kirinnotes in a releasethat the experience will vary by person and the feeling may vary depending on the food. The spoon does what it says, though activating the current might feel like getting the stars to align for some. The handle is thick, with sensors on the back of the spoon that you have to touch to activate it. Depending on your dexterity, you might have to wrap your fist around it, similar to how a toddler would. On the spoon segment, there's a different sensor that the food needs to touch to receive the burst of saltiness. The handle has a blue light below the button that turns white when ready. If the food shifts off the sensor in the spoon, you lose your current and your food won't be salty.Touching the sensors on the back of the handle and moving the food to the right spot on the spoon to activate the current could be a balancing act that quickly gets old.Read more: CES 2025: We're Obsessed With These 28 New Products So FarThe Kirin Electric Salt Spoon is an interesting concept with an important mission of reducing sodium intake. I could see this spoon moving the needle in a meaningful way for people who need to quickly reduce their sodium intake for health reasons. When we tested the spoon, it amped up the broth's flavor as described. However, I wouldn't completely bank on this spoon just yet. The steps to getting it to work are awkward, and we can't rule out the possibility that the placebo effect might be at play to some degree. The Kirin Electric Salt Spoon is available in Japan and should be available in North America this year. It will cost around $125, which might be hard to justify for a spoon. Kirin states that people using pacemakers or other medical devices should not use its spoon.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 131 Views

WWW.CNET.COMThis Ingenious SodaStream-like Bottle Can Turn Flat Water Into Delicious Sparkling Water Anytime, AnywherePlain, flavorless water went into the Roam SodaTop bottle on the show floor at CES 2025. Delicious, sparkling water with a vibrant flavor of white peach came out. It had a fuller flavor than most sparkling waters I've had, and a gentle, drinkable level of carbonation. The magic was in the bottle cap, and the flavor was in the air.Read more:These Are the Official 2025 Best of CES Winners, Awarded by CNET GroupWhen a Roam representative carbonated the bottle with the white peach flavored CO2, it was a simple process that took just a few seconds. Part of that process is venting the bottle so it's safe to open, and the smell was like briefly walking through a peach orchard. Home Tech Gadgets at CES 2025 Impressed More Than Last Year See all photos The Roam SodaTop is like a handheld SodaStream. The cap is what makes it carbonated. A tight seal and a small CO2 cartridge turn boring still water into something a little more exciting. You can screw the top on a water bottle Roam sells itself, or on a compatible water bottle (like a HydroFlask).Roam plans to start selling the SodaTop directly from its website in the first quarter of 2025, for $50. The CO2 cartridges are expected to cost about 70 cents apiece. The flavored CO2 cartridges, like produced that wonderful white peach flavor, are still in development.Handheld carbonation on the go Upgrade your inbox Get cnet insider From talking fridges to iPhones, our experts are here to help make the world a little less complicated. The Roam SodaTop's process is simple. You insert a CO2 cartridge into the SodaTop's special lid, release that carbon dioxide into the bottle, let out excess gas on the inside, and drink. Each cartridge is good for a single liter of water. The company aims for about 2.8 to 3 volumes of CO2 -- the carbonation level of a fairly highly carbonated beer, and a little lower than some bottles and cans of sparkling water. CES 2025: We're Obsessed With These 28 New Products So Far See all photos Roam says its stainless steel water bottles are designed to keep drinks cold for 24 hours. If you already have a SodaStream, Roam also has an adapter cap, which will sell for $13, that lets you carbonate your drinks from your countertop machine.Flavor is in the sparkling airThe only thing you should carbonate in the bottle is water, but that doesn't mean you can't add flavor. Flavored syrups or other drink mixes can be added after the CO2 if you want something that tastes like, well, something. But Roam is also developing its own ways to add variety. @cnetdotcom Bottoms up! We tried the #Roam portable carbonation bottle with #SodaTop, so you can have sparkling water where you go (as long as you have a CO2 cartridge.) Its expected to come out early this year for $49.99. #sparklingwater #watertok #waterbottle #ces2025 original sound - CNET Flavor drops will be available at launch. Yuzu is another flavor I tried. It was bright and fruity, with a sharp profile like you'd find with other water flavoring. The flavored CO2 cartridges are still being perfected. Right now, they produce a little less carbonation than the standard, plain CO2 cartridges. Flavors will likely include ginger, lemon, yuzu, grapefruit and white peach. The cartridges mean you won't have to carry around carbon dioxide and flavor, just the gas cartridge. For more coverage ofCES 2025, check out the $7,000 coffee-making robot, and find out which products from CES are actually available for purchase now.0 Commentarios 0 Acciones 116 Views
