Founded in 1955, Nyckelviksskolan on Liding provides pre-university courses in art, crafts, architecture, and design and vocational training for craft educators. When the need for expanded and more appropriate premises arose, Marge Arkitekter was tasked with designing an extension that would primarily house the ceramic and sculpture workshops.Save this picture! The remit was to create an extension that should relate to the plaster and brick faades of the existing school buildings. In this context, the new extension serves as both a connecting link and as an additional layer of a further layer added to the whole. The building volume appears as a wedged-in brick monolith, a sculptural block whose surfaces have been chiseled with large, wooden-framed glass openings.Save this picture! The volume adapts itself to the existing buildings with an independent and contemporary expression. The extension asserts itself by extending its faade between the existing buildings and creating an embracing, inviting east-facing entrance. The sculpture studios have been fitted with lanterns that provide light from above. The souterrain floor to the west faces a future outdoor teaching area for ceramics and sculpture.Save this picture! To create a gentle transition between the plastered main building and the workshop building's sacked brick faade, the faades of the extension are rendered in brick of shifting red tones. The faades are laid on site in varying bonds that provide a cohesive and precise expression. The frame is a hybrid of steel and prefabricated concrete with a ceiling of glulam beams framing the roof lights in the studios.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Liding, SwedenLocation to be used only as a reference. • 12 Nokia Design Archive photos celebrating peak Y2K tech
    www.popsci.com
There was a time when the phones in our pockets didnt look nearly identical to one another. Before the iPhone ushered in an age of rectangular, monotone devices, cellphones came in all shapes and sizes. Many offerings were colorful, some were innovative, some were absolute disastersand some of them never saw the light of day.Few companies better embodied all of these possibilities than Nokia. At its peak, the Finnish telecom giant comprised 40 percent of the entire mobile phone market and generated four percent of the nations GDP. Phones like the Nokia 5510 and 7210 became cultural touchstones, while its NSeries models paved the way for Apples camera-enabled smartphone features. Nokias influence began to wane not long after the iPhones 2007 debut (as well as a disastrous attempt to compete with Nintendo over handheld gaming dominance). While not the phone giant it once was, Nokia still provides wireless networking and backend technologies for clients around the world. This week, Aalto University in Helsinki, Finland launched the Nokia Design Archive, a free-to-use, digital trove featuring 700 exhibits documenting the companys history, influence, and products. Here are just a few looks at the tech aesthetics of the 90s and Y2K eras.(Click to expand images.)Nokia 252The Nokia 252 quickly became one of the most recognizable pre-Y2K cellphones after its release in 1998. Available in multiple colors, the 252 was also one of Nokias last products to use the 1G wireless network.Credit: Nokia Design Archive Nokia 6110The 6110 might not look like much, but precursor to Nokias 3110 Brick phone occupies a pivotal spot in pop culture history: The 6110 is the first phone to ever feature the video game, Snake. The easy-to-learn, difficult-to-master game was also accompanied by the time-wasters, Logic and Memory puzzlers.Credit: Nokia Design Archive N-GageCodenamed Starship during its development, Nokia intended the N-Gage to cut into the handheld video game market firmly dominated at the time by Nintendos GameBoy Advance. Nokias target teen demographic didnt go for it. instead, they nicknamed the unequivocal failure the taco phone in honor of its odd, clunky shape.Credit: Nokia Design Archive MorphNot all of Nokias concepts made it to store shelves, and the Morph might be one of the best examples. But theres a pretty good reason why people never got a chance to try out the extremely green, flexible wearablethe nanotechnology underpinning it still doesnt exist.Credit: Nokia Design Archive unknownMoonrakerWhile this Nokia-Microsoft Moonraker project got closer to reality than the Morph, it still ended up in the dustbin of device history in favor of Microsofts ill-fated Band.Credit: Nokia Design Archive Virtual GlassesDetails are sparse about Nokias early VR/AR plans apart from a couple of conceptual renderings like this one. Its also difficult to know exactly when the company first considered investing in the technology, although the archive estimates it is from circa 1999.Credit: Nokia Design Archive Nokia 8810The Nokia 8110 debuted in 1996, but it wasnt until three years later that the cellphone became entrenched in Y2K culture thanks to its (slightly augmented) cameo in The Matrix.Credit: Nokia Design Archive Nokia 5110Designed as the casual users alternative to the more business-friendly 6110, the 5110 featured an 8448-pixel monochrome LCD screen illuminated by four LED backlights. It was also the first to feature colorful, swappable Xpress-On faceplates in a bid to appeal to younger demographics.Credit: Nokia Design Archive 3G Cell Phone ConceptThe 3G wireless networks introduction in 2001 offered previously impossible internet connectivity options for cellphone owners. The standalone digital camera accessory relied on AAA batteries, and could transfer pictures to a cellphone using a wire cable.Credit: Nokia Design Archive End of an EraNokia only briefly waded into the smartphone era before the iPhone cornered the market for years to come. While executives at the time intended to give Apple a run for its money as seen in this opposition presentation slideshow, the iPhone signaled the end of an era for the company.Credit: Nokia Design Archive

  • How Diablo 4's Armory Will Be A Boon For Eternal Players (And The Chances Of A Witch Class)
    www.gamespot.com
Diablo 4 continues to evolve over a year and a half after release, having seen major changes to its endgame, difficulty, and even items. Now, as part of Diablo 4 Season 7, Season of Witchcraft, Blizzard is adding another permanent game-changing feature to its ARPG--the Armory. What the Armory does is simple: It lets players save up to five different loadouts per character. With the click of a button, players can swap out the entirety of their equipped gear, but more importantly, also their skill points and paragon points. Once a loadout is saved, characters can freely swap to it at no charge, giving easy access to up to five different builds and encouraging players to experiment and try new strategies. The Armory is in many ways the culmination of how Blizzard's mindset has changed in the time since Diablo 4 launched. Whereas once respeccing skill points and Paragon Boards (or even re-rolling item affixes at the Enchanter) came with a hefty gold cost, those costs have gotten less prohibitive over time. Now, with the Armory, players can completely swap out almost every major choice for their character and flip builds as often as they want, without having to pay any kind of fee.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • One Piece: Does Koby Still Want To Capture Alvida?
    gamerant.com
One Piece has changed since its far more peaceful and simple beginnings. What is now a massive epic following the exploits of a universe full of pirates, was once a much simpler journey about a group of friends trying to survive in a dangerous world. Back then, each character's goals and dreams in One Piece seemed simpler, since the audience didnt know the true extent of how difficult it would be to make them a reality.

  • After a gloriously chaotic season 1, I cant wait to see the drama XO, Kitty season 2 has in store
    www.polygon.com
Kitty Song Covey the titular lead of XO, Kitty and the most chaotic bisexual teenager on Netflix is back, and I am so ready to see what the hell she gets up to this season, because the first season was so gloriously over the top.The show is technically a spinoff series of Netflixs To All the Boys movie trilogy, itself based on a series of young adult romance books by Jenny Han. However, compared to the more grounded To All the Boys movies, XO, Kitty is absolutely off the rails in the best way possible.[Ed. note: This post contains spoilers for season 1 of XO, Kitty.]Its a teen drama where every plot point is just taken to its most ridiculous extreme. Its also remarkably chaste: Nothing on screen ever goes beyond a slightly heated kiss, bitch and ass are the strongest swear words uttered, and little to no underage drinking is involved. In fact, the first season had a whole plotline about underage drinking being a huge no-go in South Korea. This super dramatic teen show isnt the sex and drugs of Euphoria; its like High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, but with a lot more soap opera fare. Because the show doesnt rely on the inherent shock that comes with heavier topics, it has to make everything that does happen bigger and more dramatic than it probably calls for. The result is a show thats so dramatic it wraps back around to silly. This is a good thing. The first season kicked off when Kitty (Anna Cathcart), younger sister of To All the Boys lead Lara Jean, goes to an international school in Korea, following in her late mothers footsteps. Shes determined to connect to her mom, but soon discovers a dark and tangled web in her moms past, which also involves the schools headmaster and the strictest teacher. Kitty, who describes herself as someone who goes after what she wants without abandon, will stop at nothing to solve this mystery including breaking into hospitals to steal records and butting into her teachers personal lives. This allows for the kind of shenanigans that teen soaps were built for without bending over backward for justification; Kitty is just like that and the sooner you accept it, the more enjoyable the show will be.Kitty has another reason for doing a year abroad at Korean Independent School of Seoul (known as KISS, because this show just loves to be all cutesy and on the nose like that): Her long-distance Korean boyfriend, Dae (Choi Min-young), goes there. But when she arrives, she finds out that Dae is dating rich socialite Yuri (Gia Kim)! Gasp!No matter the specific genre, love triangles are staples of teen shows, from Gilmore Girls to Riverdale. In XO, Kitty, though, a simple love triangle evolves into a many-headed, vicious love hydra with a million added complications. Season 1 ended with Kittys romantic status up in the air, with deliciously promising entanglements for season 2: She realized that she and sweet Dae are better off as friends, she had a biwakening through Yuri (of all people), and she got a love confession from an unexpected source in the finale. Not only does Kitty have to deal with the chaos of her already quite frenzied dating life, her options expanded now that shes also making heart-eyes at girls. The family plotline and romantic entanglements dont even begin to scratch the surface of just how much unhinged drama is packed into the 10 half-hour episodes of season 1. Kitty accidentally gets assigned to the boys dorms. She almost fails out of school. Every character has their own tortured family drama. And every character also just does not know how to act like a decent human being, instead jumping to the most ridiculous conclusions and pulling off the most batshit plans. That makes XO, Kitty a reliable fountain of endlessly entertaining drama anything that can happen in the show will. No one is more guilty of this than Kitty, who is a certified human wrecking ball. And I. Am. Obsessed. When I watched season 1, I was a little thrown off at just how hyperbolic the show was, especially when compared to the original movie series. But now that Ive accepted that its a high-octane ride that hits the gas from the first episode and never lets go, Im more prepared for season 2. I cant wait to hold on for dear life and see just what the hell Kitty gets herself into this time around. Both seasons of XO, Kitty are on Netflix now.

  • These Are My Favorite Air Fryer Recipes
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page.Your kitchen should have the right tools. Welcome to A Guide to Gearing Up Your Kitchen, a series where I help you outfit the space with all the small appliances you need (and ditch the ones you dont). The air fryer has blessed us all with quick convection heating at affordable prices, and the unparalleled reheating of leftover fried food. What more could a girl ask for? Compared to a microwave or stand mixer, its an appliance I havent lived with for very long, but I cant imagine living without it now. Whether its your first time using an air fryer or your 500th, youll love these fool-proof dishes. Here are some of my favorite air fryer recipes to date.Easy mushroom chipsAir fryers bring speed, ease, and efficiency to our kitchens and there is no recipe that honors this cooking appliance more than these mushroom chips. It's a two-ingredient recipe that requires hardly any preparation and you are rewarded with a savory, crunchy snack. These mushroom chips can be eaten on their own or as a crunchy topping for soups, salads, or casseroles. They're also naturally gluten-free and vegan. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Air-fried pierogiesThere are few things more satisfying than a soft pasta pocket full of potatoes, meat, or vegetables. But a crispy-shelled pasta pocket might be just the thing. These air-fried pierogies are easy, thanks to the frozen food section in the grocery store, but make sure you follow my tips here so you end up with a light and shattering shell. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Meatball shotsPrepackaged supermarket meatballs make quick and easy work of these cheese-filled meat bites. I enjoy them particularly as a Super Bowl snack, but let's be honest: Sometimes there are no sports on but a savory craving hits nonetheless. These are the three-ingredient snack for you. Simply hollow out the center of a meatball and fill it before crisping up the edges in your air fryer. Read here for the full recipe. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Stuffed mushroomsStuffed mushrooms are easily in my top three favorite snacks. They're satisfying, bursting with umami and extremely quick to make in the air fryer. My recipe uses sausage, spices, and a bit of cream cheese to bind it all together but you can easily replace the meat with a different filling of your choice. Once they're in the air fryer, they only take about 10 minutes to cooka fraction of the time they would take in the conventional oven. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Scotch eggsScotch eggs are like breakfast baseballs. A hard-boiled egg is encased in a thick shell of sausage, breaded, and deep fried. This air fryer recipe breaks with tradition, but only just. Instead of using a deep fryer to cook the protein ball, a light spritz of oil and the whipping winds of the air fryer take care of the cooking. The outside crisps up while the sausage remains juicy and the egg doesnt overcook. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Juicy air fryer steak bitesOne of my favorite snacks when Im eating a high-protein diet (and when I can afford it) is a bowl of steak bites. The air fryer makes quick work of these popcorn steak nibbles but beware, the average recipe will have you overcooking them in minutes. Follow my recipe instead and use the freezer to keep your expensive snack juicy and flavorful. Credit: from my point of view / Shutterstock.com Youre not late to the air fryer trend, youre right on time:Ninja Foodi 6-in-1 DualZone FlexBasketBreville Smart Oven Air Fryer Pro Cuisinart Air Fryer + Convection Toaster Oven, 8-1 Oven with Bake, Grill, Broil & Warm Options, Stainless Steel, TOA-70 $224.99 at Amazon Shop Now Shop Now $224.99 at Amazon Potato-crusted chicken fingersWhen youre after a crisp crust on your chicken fingers, starch is your best friend. It turns out, dried potato flakes are loaded with the stuff. Theyre easy to work with, and can even make for a delicious gluten-free breading. All you need are a few ingredients to make this recipe, and youll have an irresistible batch of potato-crusted chicken fingers of your own. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Bacon-wrapped banana bitesI always suggest this recipe to folks open to giving new combinations a chance. If youre OK with salty peanut butter on a slice of banana, youre probably just one flavor adventure away from enjoying these bacon-wrapped banana bites. The recipe couldnt be easier and the payoff is sensational. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Stuffed shishito pepper poppersThe air fryer makes perfectly blistered roasted veggies in a fraction of the time the conventional oven takes, and that means you can have these shishito pepper poppers ready in less than 10 minutes. Since you can eat the seeds and ribs in a shishito, theres not much more preparation you have to do than split them and swipe a bit of cheese mixture inside. Credit: Claire Lower, Ian Moore Frico gratin potato squaresFrico is when low-moisture cheeses cook to a literal crisp, and its one of the most divine cheese experiences you can have. Eat frico as a snack, or cover your leftover gratin potatoes in Parmesan frico with this simple recipe. Its an easy way to transform leftovers, and give them a new texture and a second life (that might actually be better than the first one). Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann Mac and cheese bitesRemember how I said cooked cheese becomes crispy? Well, leftover mac and cheese did all the frico-prep for you. All you have to do is slice it up and stick it in the air fryer. Make bite-sized squares or long mac and cheese sticks for an easy afternoon snack. A quick blast in the convection oven will frico the edges to crunchy cheese glory. Credit: Allie Chanthorn Reinmann A simple banana dessertPart of what draws me to cooking in the air fryer is that it invites simplicity. You cant stick a spatula in there while its cooking and stir things around, theres no adding a splash of this or that halfway through, or covering it with a lid to simmer. Its an appliance where the heat talks, and whatever you put inside either flourishes in the hot winds, or fails. A banana absolutely thrives. You know bacon-wrapped bananas do well in the air fryer, but dont forget about dessert. This recipe tells you the best way to air fry a skin-on banana with just a few sweet toppings. • Bang & Olufsen's new earbuds with replaceable batteries dont seem to be very repairable
    www.engadget.com
Bang & Olufsen announced its new $499 premium earbuds, the Beoplay Eleven, back in November, touting among other things their replaceable batteries for sustainability and alignment with the EUs impending device repairability requirements. But an iFixit teardown tells a more complicated story about actually replacing those batteries, describing the process of just getting the case open as a very onerous and labor intensive task even for a trained technician. And inside, the battery is affixed to other components in ways that require heat to remove it, which in itself wouldn't comply with the EU's upcoming rules. Given all the work involved, the earbuds scored an abysmal 1/10 on iFixits repairability scorecard.Bang & Olufsen said the earbuds design allows for battery replacement by service, which, as iFixit notes, suggests that this isnt meant to be a repair you can do yourself at home. It did ultimately turn out to be possible to take one of the earbuds apart without damaging any of the electronics inside, but the laborious teardown calls into question how feasible and sustainable battery replacement would be even when carried out at a B&O service center. After opening up the case and finding a plastic weld mark barring access to the battery, iFixits Shahram Mokhtari notes in the video that, at a minimum, any battery replacement service would need to dispose of the plastic housing completely.Id love to see B&Os process for changing these batteries out, Mokhtari wrote in the blog post. Im willing to bet its neither cheap nor waste-free but I would love to be proven wrong. The teardown also revealed the Beoplay Eleven to be a carbon copy of the 2022 Beoplay EX internally. Even the peel-away film on the rear of each earbud says Beoplay EX not Beoplay Eleven, Mokhtari wrote. Yikes. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/audio/headphones/bang-and-olufsens-new-earbuds-with-replaceable-batteries-dont-seem-to-be-very-repairable-174949894.html?src=rss
