    Netflix has introduced a new type of extra member account: extra members with ads.The streamer announced the new offering in a shareholder letter on Tuesday before its fourth-quarter earnings call. In the US, according to Netflix's help site, adding an extra member with ads costs $7 per month, and the option is available alongside the pre-existing extra member accounts that do not have ads.Per Netflix's site, these extra member accounts work similarly to the previous version as a way to pay more for an additional person located in a different household. You'll need an ad-free type of Netflix -- either Standard or Premium -- to purchase an extra member slot. Netflix Premium subscribers can add up to two slots, and Standard customers get one. Extra members have a separate account and password.Netflix also announced price increases on Tuesday. Now, the ad-based extra member version costs $1 per month less than the Standard with Ads plan and $2 less than an ad-free extra member account.Other than the price, a difference between being an extra member with ads and a Standard with Ads subscriber is that extra members can only watch and download on one device at a time. Standard with Ads members get two simultaneous screens and devices for downloading. Extra members get one profile, and Standard with Ads customers get up to five.In the shareholder letter, Netflix said it aimed to give members "additional choice and flexibility" with the extra member offering. Video by Ian Higton Video Producer Published on Jan. 22, 2025 Luke Ross, the prolific flat to VR modder and creator of the REAL VR mod has been suspiciously quiet recently. Turns out this was because he's been secretly digging into the code for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and he's emerged from its dusty depths with an upcoming PC VR mod that's so exciting, it might just belong in a museum. Watch on YouTubeThat's right, a REAL VR mod that will allow you to explore the open worlds of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is on the way, and Luke offered me a chance to inspect an early access version of his work. You can watch around 40 minutes worth of gameplay, including a full, commentary free playthrough of the Raiders-set intro chapter in the video above. Be wary of spoilers though, especially after the 20 minute mark as I do check out some late-game locations. If you'd just like to get idea of what it would be like to star in Raiders of the Lost Ark though, skip ahead to the 27 minute mark. There are some amazing views in The Great Circle, but I found that tomb raiding offered me the most immersive virtual moments.Just like Luke's other mods, this one adds full 6DoF VR to the game but not motion controls, so you'll still need to play through the game with a normal controller. This is always a bit of a sore point for diehard VR enthusiasts, but it doesn't bother me as I just appreciate the fact that I can explore previously flat worlds as if I were there. This is especially true for The Great Circle which combines highly detailed assets with small but incredibly dense open worlds to form lush looking locations that are a joy to explore in virtual reality.One thing I did struggle with whilst trying out the mod though was the first-person combat. All the action is right up in your face and the swings of Indy's fists and weapons felt like it pulled the camera around quite a lot and, as you'll see if you watch the video, this ended up with me missing a lot of blows. According to Luke's Patreon blog post however, this is a problem that seems to be unique to me which, to be fair, sounds about right as I'm well known for breaking every game I touch. Nevertheless, this mod still feels like a perfect companion piece for a spot of virtual tourism after you've completed the game in flat, as revisiting areas after that point is super easy thanks to the travel options in the menus. The flat images and video really don't do sights like this justice. The river, the wooden walkways, the buildings and the distant trees add so much depth and realism to the scene in VR.One thing to note also is that I had to keep the texture qualities fairly low to get smooth capture for this one so if you have a decent GPU and you're not running a bunch of capture programs at the same time, you should be able to achieve way sharper visuals than you can see in my video with a little bit of tinkering. But when will you get to do this tinkering? Well, dust off your fedora and unravel your whips because according to Luke, his mod is almost ready for release.

For many, its presence in Black Ops 6 and Warzone negatively impacts the action while some prefer more competitive matches to test their skills on their favourite maps and game modes.In recent weeks, players have started contacting Activision to request their data which showcases details on the strength of SBMM in their matches over the last six years. To the delight of many, the data shows it is possible to find no-skill lobbies where the opposition is much easier to overcome.Call of Duty has no-skill SBMM lobbiesAfter receiving data from Activision, streamer TacticalBrit showcased a handful of entries that included his matchmaking strength.The numbers can range from anywhere between zero and above to highlight the strength of matchmaking during that particular match. The content creator reveals that his very first Warzone match had a matchmaking of 550, significantly higher than your average battle royale match which typically has a matchmaking strength between 100 and 200.Its unclear how players end up in a match where the matchmaking strength is zero. With Activision cracking down on using VPNs to enter easier lobbies, the ability to end up in a match where the skills of players vary from newcomer to seasoned veteran.Is Call of Duty SBMM improving?Activision continues to claim its matchmaking prioritises connection over skill level but players remain unconvinced. The presence of SBMM in casual playlists often detracts from the fun but in Ranked Play, the system ensures players of a similar level are competing against each other.Players having the ability to analyse their data all the way back to 2019s Modern Warfare and the first iteration of Warzone is great for those wanting to see how the strength changes over time. As Gran Turismo and Forza Motorsport have long striven to do, it was here to let you walk into the showroom, pick a car, pick a track, and boom. Go. However, on PC, AC had the ace of modding up its sleeve. Built to allow people to add as many extra cars and tracks as they wanted, as well as tweak a litany of other stuff, it became a thing pretty much all petrol heads had long dreamed a racing game could be - ultimate freedom.If you want to drive any car in the world on any track in the world, the odds are pretty good you can do it via Assetto Corsa, right now.Everything from modern racing and road cars anywhere in the world, to the kinds of uber-accurate, time machine-esque recreations of retro racing enthusiasts have put together. Its all there, just waiting to be fired up.No pressure then, Assetto Corsa EVO, the long-awaited successor to this killer robot that fans have since added about 15 thousand different weapons to, as well as polishing its paintwork while theyre at it. AC Evo came out in early access last week, and after a weekend of playing it so far, its clear that its got a long way to go as part of the roadmap Kunos Simulazioni has planned to lead up to a full release in fall this year. EVO's got a lot of tuns to nail if it's gonna live up to its older sibling. | Image credit: Kunos Simulazioni/VG247At this point, what youre getting if you buy EVO is essentially an offline hot lap and single-make racer. There arent any online elements on the go yet though the game does bizarrely try to connect like an always-online thing whenever you boot it up all youve got are solo practice sessions and standalone races (no qualifying, full race weekends are still a work-in-progress).Theres a decent starting roster of cars to choose from, across a variety of brands. Those looking to hop straight in something a bit out there like a Le Mans prototype or anything built prior to the 90s are gonna be left wanting, but thats to be expected. What youve mainly got are a selection of hot hatches, sports and muscle cars, supercars, and a few single-make championship style racers thatre reaching towards the GT3-spec machines ACs spin-off sibling Assetto Corsa Competizione has as its specialised bread and butter.Theres just enough choice that youll not feel too pigeon-holed, and plenty of these are fun to drive. The track rosters about the same, with both variations of Brands Hatch, Imola, Laguna Seca, and three variations of Japans iconic Suzuka all being the kinds of tracks that are exactly the sort of early staples youd expect. The legendary Bathurst/Mount Panorama track thats no doubt been brought across from Competizione is the only one Id argues a bit less common, and the Aussie rollercoaster rides a welcome addition.So, on to the big thing. Hows the driving? Good, in a word. On a wheel which is definitely the way you should play this each car feels weighty, but not more cumbersome than it should be. You can get a nice feel for the tyres gripping the road if youre not being a hooligan, and feel things biting as you slide if youre not, which is as real a risk as it should be if you do what I did and what the stability aids down to nothing. The grunt under your right foot is something youve got to wield carefully, especially if youre wrestling with a fire-spitting Camaro or a 911 cup car with flat six screaming away in the rear. Speaking of, the car visuals and soundscapes are pretty great, with each ride having its own trademark engine roar. As you can imagine, GT2 Mercs are pretty strong in the roar deparment. | Image credit: Kunos Simulazioni/VG247Theres a good challenge there for those who want it, plenty of aids for those whore after a gentler cruise, and plenty of stuff to fiddle with if you want to up the realism and bind everything down to switches that change brake bias by one tiny notch and flick your rain light on manually. Youve got enough different stuff to try and master too, with Bathurst especially being even more different in what it demands than the minor differences between the other more traditionally open circuits.If you want to spice things up even more, youve got the option of changing the time of day slider so youre running at night, or dialling in some light to heavy rain to make the road that much less forgiving and force yourself to deal with spray if youve got competition. If you do make a mistake though, youll lose time, but not much more. Aside from punctures, the games car damage model did feel to me like itll need turning up a bit - assuming were not going for a retro Gran Turismo-style every car is made of stone cos the manufacturers dont really like seeing their babies get trashed thing. For instance, hitting big sausage kerbs isnt quite as punishing as I reckon it should be.I did also run into more teething issues when I took on some races against the AI. First of all, Ive got a pretty beefy PC and while AC games have generally been quite hardware-intensive if youre not prepared to dial stuff down to guarantee the great frame rates you need for racing, any time Im racing against more than about 10 AI opponents, I got a bit of slowdown. It was especially bad on starts, and adding rain made things worse with it. So, maybe a bit more optimisation needed, if possible. I didn't go and hide in the pits because the AI drivers were bullying me, I swear. | Image credit: Kunos SimulazioniThe AI driving itself is also a bit suspect at times. The default line for like a third of the field at Suzuka seems to involve dramatically cutting the first corner across the grass, then rejoining mid-corner. They might be scared Ill Ayton Senna 1990 them, but thats no excuse. Besides, they give as good as they get. It might be because Im not as attentive mirror-wise as I could be, but theres no lifting if someones nose gets close to your rear. I got spun a few times, which was probably my fault for not learning my lesson, but I also got a fair few direct mid-corner bumps squarely to the bumper, which unsettled me just enough to spin out on my own.Basically, it seems like Kunos has based these non-humans on touring car drivers who know theyve not got another race coming up soon, whichll take a bit of getting used to if the option to tweak their aggressiveness isnt added in future.Overall, though, AC EVOs a solid opening package to build on right now. It wont blow you away in its current form, but as the interesting GT/Forza/AC hybrid Kunos seems to have sketched out in its roadmap especially the interesting free-roamy bits come together, and it proves as popular modding-wise as its predecessor, its definitely one to keep an eye on. Its not on pole position yet, but its gotten round the first corner pretty rapidly, and without binning it.

    Now you're playing with miceWe're incredibly excited to see what kind of tricks Nintendo has up its sleeve for the Switch 2's native games and how they might implement optical sensors into their gameplay, but we've also been pondering which OG Switch titles might benefit from added 'Mouse Mode' support via backward compatibility. It's by no means a given that Nintendo will patch its back catalogue you might argue that it's unlikely but it's possible.So, we've assembled a handful of Switch games which could be a good fit for some mouse-like functionality. We're limiting this to actual, current Switch titles, not hypothetical future releases (so you won't find that Kid Icarus: Uprising remaster or a Mario Paint port here - although we'd love them too, of course).Let's start with a game that always felt like it was built with 'Mouse Mode' in mind...Super Mario Maker 2 (Switch)Publisher: Nintendo / Developer: NintendoRelease Date: 28th Jun 2019 (USA) / 28th Jun 2019 (UK/EU)If we're being honest, creating custom Mario levels with the Switch's touch screen never felt quite as satisfying as it did on the Wii U and the 3DS. Thanks in large part to the shift from resistive touchscreens to capacitive, using your finger instead of a stylus was noticeably less precise (not to mention leaving greasy marks all over your Switch screen).Moving over to a mouse-like solution would not only mitigate this entirely, but it would allow for more precise creation across both docked and tabletop scenarios. Controls could be slightly altered to allow for quick access to critical shortcuts ('Undo', 'Favourites'), and if paired with some sweet HD-Rumble feedback, it could make for an incredibly satisfying, tactile experience.Splatoon 3 (Switch)Publisher: Nintendo / Developer: NintendoRelease Date: 9th Sep 2022 (USA) / 9th Sep 2022 (UK/EU)If you come across someone who's especially skilled at Splatoon 3, then chances are they're using a combination of analogue and gyro controls. Truly mastering this setup makes Splatoon 3 an absolute joy, giving you total precision over your shots and movement. That said, it can sometimes be a bit awkward twisting your controller around during heated battles. Mouse controls would effectively mimic the gyro setup in classic PC style, but you simply use the right Joy-Con as a mouse while keeping the left solely for analogue movement.Now, a big caveat here would be a potential haves and have-nots situation. Who's going to want to play competitively on the OG Switch if Switch 2 players are rocking a potentially more advantageous control scheme?So perhaps it's a bit late for Splatoon 3. Splatoon 4, on the other hand...Disco Elysium: The Final Cut (Switch eShop)Publisher: ZA/UM / Developer: ZA/UMRelease Date: 12th Oct 2021 (USA) / 12th Oct 2021 (UK/EU)We have very few problems with the excellent Disco Elysium on Switch, but one of the drawbacks of the console release was having to cycle through interactable objects until you stumble upon the one you actually want. Sometimes you'd get lucky and land on it straight away, others you'd be fumbling with the right analogue stick, moving it up, down, left, and right for ages.It should be obvious how mouse controls along the lines of the original PC and Mac releases would alleviate this: simply slide an onscreen cursor directly over an item or NPC. Simple! But goodness, could you imagine using mouse controls instead?Touchscreen functionality would certainly improve the game, but using 'Mouse Mode' (look, we like the alliteration) to move the cursor would be immeasurably more enjoyable. The game is, after all, bringing back a PC classic from 1999 (and 2002); one that veteran fans are intimately familiar with. Why not make the transition over to the Switch 2 as easy as possible? Makes sense to us.Return to Monkey Island (Switch eShop)Publisher: Devolver Digital / Developer: Terrible ToyboxRelease Date: 19th Sep 2022 (USA) / 19th Sep 2022 (UK/EU)Pretty much any point-and-click adventure game on Switch would probably benefit from mouse controls; Return to Monkey Island was simply the first that came to mind!Games like Loco Motive, Grim Fandango, Thimbleweed Park, The Darkside Detective... They all stick close to the classic blueprint, so implementing mouse controls would easily make them more approachable for players looking to transition from the PC versions. The touchscreen made this genre a natural fit for Switch, so adding this functionality for TV play would make it the ultimate point-and-click machine.Sid Meier's Civilization VI (Switch)Publisher: 2K Games / Developer: Firaxis GamesRelease Date: 16th Nov 2018 (USA) / 16th Nov 2018 (UK/EU)Civilization VI did a good job at translating the series' to Switch, with the left analogue stick allowing for movement of the onscreen indicator, while the right lets you pan across the scenery and jump the cursor over to the centre of the screen.Let's be honest, though, any strategy game worth its salt is best used with proper mouse controls. You could shift the camera pan to a single analogue stick and boom. It's a slightly stripped-back version of the classic mouse and keyboard setup on PC, but it would certainly allow for more intuitive navigation.Quake II (Switch eShop)Publisher: Bethesda / Developer: id SoftwareRelease Date: 10th Aug 2023 (USA) / 10th Aug 2023 (UK/EU)FPS games flourished on PC with traditional mouse and keyboard setups, and we reckon the Switch 2 could simulate this well with the new Joy-Con. And let's not forget, Quake already supports mouse control on Switch!The game already boasts a pretty flawless control setup that includes optional gyro aiming, but there's no denying that the movement of a mouse would introduce even more precision. Nightdive has been great about post-launch patches and support, and we could totally imagine the devs going back and adding this to the first two entries. Or perhaps to a hypothetical port of Quake III Arena?Naturally, the benefits of mouse control could apply to most FPS games on Switch, including the likes of DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, Killing Time: Resurrected, and yes, perhaps even Metroid Prime Remastered.Akka Arrh (Switch eShop)Publisher: Atari / Developer: LlamasoftRelease Date: 21st Feb 2023 (USA) / 21st Feb 2023 (UK/EU)Akka Arrh requires lightning-fast reflexes and precise aiming at all times. Despite its somewhat relaxed visual aesthetics, the later levels in particular can descend into utter chaos, and if you're not careful you'll wind up back on the main menu time and time again.It has you moving an onscreen cursor to shoot down invading enemies and defend your central tower. Developer Llamasoft fine-tuned the movement speed well enough that it feels relatively zippy without losing too much accuracy, but it's still no replacement for traditional mouse input.Just imagine the kind of high scores you can achieve with 'Mouse Mode'.The World Ends with You: Final Remix (Switch)Publisher: Nintendo / Developer: Square EnixRelease Date: 12th Oct 2018 (USA) / 12th Oct 2018 (UK/EU)Games that focus so heavily on the Switch's touchscreen can be a bit tricky to translate into other control methods. The general consensus around The World Ends with You: Final Remix is that while it's a fine port of an excellent DS game, the move to capacitive touchscreen (or an onscreen pointer in docked mode) in addition to condensing all of the action onto a single display makes it a slightly lesser version of the original.A lot of the action obscured by your finger could be revealed nicely if we made the pointer controls the default option while docked and used a Yoy-Con mouse to move it around. It might be a bit finicky since there are a lot of gestures to contend with during heated battles, but making the action easier to parse would be a huge step in the right direction.Danganronpa Decadence (Switch)Publisher: Spike Chunsoft / Developer: Spike ChunsoftRelease Date: 3rd Dec 2021 (USA) / 3rd Dec 2021 (UK/EU)You may not think that Danganronpa or other games in the visual novel category would necessarily need mouse controls to be enjoyable, and to give it credit, it does work well as it is. But in our opinion, almost every core gameplay mechanic could potentially benefit from mouse input.Think about it: you need to investigate scenes within the school with an onscreen cursor, navigate the hallways in first-person mode, and quickly select moving words or phrases during the courtroom sessions. All of these scenarios would be easier with a mouse setup.Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake (Switch eShop)Publisher: Koei Tecmo / Developer: Kou ShibusawaRelease Date: 24th Oct 2024 (USA) / 24th Oct 2024 (UK/EU)Much like the earlier entries from Koei Tecmo, Romance of the Three Kingdoms 8 Remake relies heavily on menu navigation and selection as you manage an obscene number of unique characters. The game does a good job of presenting relevant information without completely overwhelming you, but cycling through options threatens to become tedious after a while.But what's the answer!? asked absolutely nobody at this point in the article. Next game.World of Goo 2 (Switch eShop)Publisher: Tomorrow Corporation / Developer: 2D BoyRelease Date: 2nd Aug 2024 (USA) / 2nd Aug 2024 (UK/EU)World of Goo 2 (and indeed, its predecessor) has an onscreen cursor, yet unlike other games that feature similar control methods, its gooey gameplay feels incredibly tactile in the way you manipulate goo balls to create structures. Thanks to the pointer controls of the Switch's Joy-Con which often needs recentring, unlike the IR pointer of the original WiiWare version this gem never shined quite as bright as it could have on Switch.Yes, you can play with a Pro Controller or via the touchscreen if you like, but mouse controls would offer remarkable speed and accuracy. Add in cute little jiggle feedback from the HD Rumble whenever you add a new blob of goo, and we reckon you're onto a winner.Stardew Valley (Switch eShop)Publisher: ConcernedApe / Developer: ConcernedApeRelease Date: 5th Oct 2017 (USA) / 5th Oct 2017 (UK/EU)Last one, and an obvious one, but certainly a game that could benefit greatly from mouse support. Do you really need us to explain why?Okay, we will anyway. Stardew Valley places a lot of emphasis on its onscreen cursor to complete objectives, manage your inventory, and generally keep your farm running. So naturally, moving this with a mouse would prove infinitely more intuitive than an analogue stick.Also, one of the more common complaints with this beloved game is that the indicator used to show the patch of land you're about to interact with can sometimes go haywire - especially frustrating when you're performing more delicate tasks. 'Mouse mode' to the rescue.Image: NintendoWe can only dream of the myriad ways in which this new functionality will be used for the new console, and we can't wait to hear more from Nintendo.Might it provide a legitimate way to accurately control DS games in docked mode, for instance? (Yes, we're hoping there's a Nintendo Switch Online NDS app on the way!) Games like Castlevania Dominus Collection have incorporated workarounds, but precise input emulating the accuracy of a stylus on a distant screen could make the world of difference. How about the direct manipulation of light or measuring distance? Imagine controlling Luigi's torch with the optical sensors in Luigi's Mansion 3. So cool.Accessibility advantages are a big plus, too; mouse-like control options could open up more games to people of differing abilities. Even if 'just' adding mouse support to existing games strikes you as unimaginative, the benefits could be enormous for many players.While these are pipe-dream ideas for the moment, Nintendo will shed more light on the idea soon as we inch toward the Switch 2's eventual launch.
