• Samsung Teased a New Device at the Very End of Its Unpacked Event
    www.ign.com
At its January Unpacked event, Samsung focused on showing off the features of its new line of phones, the S25 series, and (frankly underwhelming) updates to Galaxy AI. But tacked onto the very end of the presentation it quite literally had a "that's not all..." slide was a brief glimpse of appears to be a new Galaxy Edge. The sizzle reel was a whirlwind gallery of the new phone's components that combined into a shadowy device with "Galaxy S25 Edge" on the screen right before the credits rolled. Outside of the name, no other details were announced, and Samsung has not made any official statements since the event ended. This is the first teaser for the next generation of Edge phones, the last of which the Galaxy S7 Edge was released back in 2016. This new device is rumored to be a "slim" version, according to photos that leaked last week, and will allegedly be 6.4mm thick. (The thinnest of the new S25 lineup, which will be available February 7 and is availble to preorder now, is the standard model at 7.2mm.)Apparently, 2025 is the year of the super-skinny phone: Apple is also supposedly launching the iPhone Air in its next wave of phone announcements sometime this year. Industry experts are speculating that it will measure between 56mm, which would beat the iPhone 6, the current record holder for slimmest iPhone, by at least .9mm.

  • The Most Exciting LEGO Sets Coming in 2025
    www.denofgeek.com
2024 was another electric year for The LEGO Group. The Danish toymaker saw continued success and growth, with expansion to new themes, such as The Legend of Zelda, Animal Crossing, Wicked, and more. LEGO is also showing no signs of slowing down, with more and more products releasing each month. Popular themes like Harry Potter and Disney will expand even further, while new licenses like Twilight enter the fray.Den of Geek has compiled a list of the most exciting LEGO sets set to release throughout the year!LEGO Ideas 21354: Twilight The Cullen HouseRelease Date: February 1LEGO is headed to the Pacific Northwest for their first crack at a Twilight set, based on the beloved (or infamous) 2008 movie of the same name. The soapy teen romance with a fantastical twist has remained relevant in the pop culture zeitgeist nearly 20 years after its release, but we question whether or not the two respective audiences for each brand will overlap. That said, 21354 looks like a fantastic set. Made out of 2,001 pieces, the build captures the Cullen house from The Twilight Saga masterfully, with fabulous architecture. Additionally, seven minifigures are included, highlighted by Edward Cullensparkles and allalongside Jacob and a build for his wolf form. The so-called Twi-hards should be ecstatic about this sets impending release.LEGO Harry Potter 76446: Knight Bus AdventureRelease Date: March 1Its going be a bumpy ride!LEGO Harry Potter has been going strong for years now, with remakes of the most iconic scenes recirculating the markets every half-decade or so. This March, the latest rendition of The Knight Bus will hit store shelves, the first since 2019. 76446 is built from 499 pieces and includes four minifigures plus a specialized part for Padfoot, aka Sirius Black shape shifted into a dog. The three-story purple bus is ready to speed its way toward any destination, besides underwater, of course.LEGO Disney 43268: Lilo and Stitch Beach HouseRelease Date: March 1A live-action remake of the classic 2002 Disney flick Lilo and Stitch is set to hit theaters this Memorial Day, so mass merchandising of the popular cartoon alien will ensue once again. That of course means a brand-new LEGO set. The company has produced their fair share of Lilo and Stitch sets in the past, but nothing quite this elaborate. An 834-piece recreation of the pairs beach house from the film is fabulously captured here, with a full interior thanks to a doll house-style construction. And dont worry, Lilo and Stitch minifigures are included as well, although Stitch is a little out of scale with his human counterpart.LEGO Disney 43272: HeiheiRelease Date: March 1Moana 2 recently passed the $1 billion mark at the global box office, so it should come as no surprise that new LEGO sets inspired by the films are being released. A brick-built version of Moanas trusty sidekick Heihei sounds like a silly idea at first, until you see the finished product. This LEGO chicken is fabulously detailed, transcending the plastic bricks its constructed out of. While targeted at ages 9+, adult Disney collectors should have a field day with this one as well.Join our mailing listGet the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox!LEGO Technic 42204: Fast and Furious Toyota Supra MK4Release Date: March 1Remember when the Fast and Furious movies were all about street racing? Its hard sometimes to recall, as Vin Diesel and company prepare for their 11th outing after going to space in a recent feature, but there was a time when the franchise took a more grounded approach, with a focus on all the sweet cars. LEGO seems fond of that time, as evidenced by the upcoming release of an 810-piece Technic model of the Toyota Supra MK4. Fans can build a complex design of one of the sagas most iconic automobiles, equipped with a 6-cylinder engine, opening hood, and of course, NOS.LEGO Architecture 21062: Trevi FountainRelease Date: March 1LEGO Architecture is a yearly release now, with last years model of Notre Dame impressing builders worldwide. What better way to follow up a French landmark than with an Italian one? The new Trevi Fountain set is nothing short of stunning. Made from 1880 pieces, this magnificent build captures the shape of the Palazzo Poli location wonderfully, complemented by the LEGO Minifigure versions of Oceanus in his shell chariot and Abundance and Health by his side.LEGO Speed Champions Ultimate Formula 1 Collectors PackRelease Date: March 1If your favorite sport is Formula 1 and your favorite toy brand is LEGO, then 2025 is a dream come true year for you. LEGO and Formula 1 have partnered for years, but not quite like this. Ten new Speed Champions sets, representing various F1 teams from Red Bull to Ferrari, are receiving their individual cars as sets sold separately. However, committed devotees can purchase the whole collection at once in an epic 10-pack exclusive to Amazon, with stunning packaging and a unique poster included.LEGO Horizon Adventures 77037: Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & SawtoothRelease Date: March 1In mid-2022, LEGO dipped its toes into the world of PlayStations Horizon with the release of 76989: Tallneck. The set was an instant success, selling out quickly and now demanding high resale prices from third-party sellers. In late 2024, the toymaker and the video game developers teamed up to create LEGO Horizon Adventures, a LEGO-ified version of the popular game series. Now in 2025, a second Horizon set is finally here, 77037: Aloy & Varl vs. Shell-Walker & Sawtooth. At an extremely affordable price of $44.99, this 768-piece set serves as a great expansion to those who purchased the Tallneck, or a fabulous alternative if you missed out. Either way, LEGO Horizons return is much appreciated, and we hope the collaboration yields more products in the future.LEGO Nintendo Game BoyRelease Date: October 2025While the set itself hasnt been officially revealed, Nintendo confirmed their next significant LEGO collaboration to be a brick-built version of the classic Game Boy handheld system. LEGO has made a handful of video game consoles into sets before, including 71374: Nintendo Entertainment System and 10306: Atari. You can expect the Game Boy set to be a 1:1 scale replica, like with some function to simulate play. Itll likely be an affordable set, too, seeing as the Game Boy isnt exactly a large system. No other details have been announced at this time, but look forward to this being a hot seller this fall.

  • Yellowjackets Season 3 Trailer Teases A Major Character Return
    www.denofgeek.com
News Yellowjackets Season 3 Trailer Teases A Major Character ReturnThe latest trailer for Yellowjackets season 3 is full of blink-and-you'll-miss-it moments, including the return of someone unexpected.By Brynna Arens | January 22, 2025 | | Photo: Kailey Schwerman | Paramount+ with SHOWTIMEYellowjackets is almost back for another season that might be its most feral and deadly yet. In the first full season 3 trailer we see the plane crash survivors in the past and the present fighting for their lives and turning against one another to ensure their own survival. But amidst all of the running and fighting, we also get a shot of Jackie (Ella Purnell) smirking at someone off camera with flecks of frost in her hair. Now we already know that this version of Jackie is very likely a figment of Shaunas imagination, her trauma manifesting as a visual representation of her friend. We all saw Jackie die at the end of season 1 and we all saw her body get barbecued and eaten by the stranded Yellowjackets in season 2. Talking to Jackie after her death is also already something weve seen Shauna do in the past, but what if this time, its present-day Shauna who is hallucinating Jackies presence?Though the shot of Jackie is incredibly brief, it does look like she is indoors. And while there is definitely precedent for the plane crash survivors hallucinating parts of the real world out in the wilderness Lotties (Courtney Eaton) vision of the mall, Coach Scott (Steven Krueger) imagining his apartment with his boyfriend the wall behind Jackie looks an awful lot like an industrial kitchen. Just like the kitchen that we briefly see present day Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) and Misty (Christina Ricci) working and potentially fighting in in the trailer. As weve seen in previous seasons, and especially in season 2, the past is not as easy to escape as the Yellowjackets want it to be. Its not unlikely that present-day Shauna could start to see Jackie again as whoever, or whatever, is after them this season starts to get closer. Trauma is a fickle thing, it rears its head whether you want it to, or not no matter how healed you feel like you may be.Jackies return may be a bit of a surprise given how viscerally she met her end, but that doesnt mean we arent excited to see her. She is clearly an important part of Shaunas life, even in death, and it will be interesting to see what role she plays this season. Past and present Shauna seem to be struggling with the weight of what she and the others have gone through, and an appearance from Jackie in either timeline is further proof of that.Regardless of which version of Shauna is seeing Jackie, itll be fun to have Ella Purnell back in season 3 and we cant wait to see just how feral and unhinged (complimentary) this season gets.Yellowjackets season 3 premieres Friday, February 14 on Paramount+ with Showtime.

  • Lawyer explains why Apple cant bring TikTok back to the App Store yet
    9to5mac.com
TikToks deactivation for US users may have been short-lived, but the app is still missing from the iPhones App Store. Heres why one lawyer says Apple cant bring it back yet.Non-enforcement guarantee wont provide much assurance in TikTok App Store decisionIf you have TikTok on your iPhone, the app now works after a short period of going dark in the US late Saturday night and into Sunday. But if you dont yet have it downloaded, theres currently no way to get the app in the US.Apple has removed it from the App Store because of its obligation to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates.President Trump has assured tech companies that the law banning TikTok would not be enforced, which is what led US host Oracle to restore service on Sunday. However, one law expert explains why Apple should not follow suit by restoring the app to the App Store.Alan Z. Rozenshtein, writing for Lawfare:The non-enforcement promise offers minimal security. As discussed above, courts rarely treat such promises as binding, even when defendants face serious consequences from relying on them. Trump could change his mind at any time or selectively enforce against companies that fall from political favor, and a future administration, taking advantage of the five-year statute of limitations, would almost certainly be free to pursue violations regardless of Trumps stance. In other words, Trumps assurances now might be of little value later, especially to a courtand the financial consequences for non-enforcement could be severe, even for a company of Apples stature.Rozenshteins full piece explains the context and history behind non-enforcement guarantees being disregarded in court, and is well worth a read if youre wondering why Apple has thus far refused to restore TikTok.What do you think of Apples decision to not offer TikTok on the App Store? • Screen recording in iOS is set to improve thanks to three new upcoming features
    9to5mac.com
The screen recording utility in iOS is a great way to share quick screencasts of whats on your iPhones display. I use it all the time for tutorials, or as a way to simply explain what Im talking about in the most straightforward way possible. As I touched on in the last episode of iOS Decoded, in a future iOS update, the built-in screen recording utility will gain three new features that will increase its usefulness. As a user-facing utility, iOS screen recording performs two primary functions. The default function allows you to simply record your iPhones screen, and save the recording to the Photos app. The second function allows you to live stream your iPhones screen.By long-pressing the Screen Recording button in Control Center, youll find additional options for enabling the iPhones microphone, and for setting a broadcast destination for supported third-party apps like Zoom and Instagram. The current screen recording UI in iOS 18.3In a future iOS update, screen recording will gain several additional new features.Record audio using stereo microphoneAudio recorded during a screen recording from the iPhones on board microphone is currently recorded in mono. In a future update, users will have the option of using multiple on-board mics to create a stereo recording. HDR support for screen recordingAs of now, screen recordings only support SDR recording. Youll notice that if you start a screen recording while viewing HDR content, the screen will dim and display everything in SDR. In a future iOS update, users will be able to capture and save HDR content using the Screen Recording utilityDisplay a live camera overlay using picture-in-picture UIPerhaps the biggest new update thats coming to iOS screen recording is the ability to simultaneously capture a live camera overlay while recording your iPhones screen. This feature will utilize the picture-in-picture UI, similarly to what youll find when performing a SharePlay screen sharing session. In the image above you can see the new camera option to the left of the microphone option in the upcoming Screen Recording UI. This Camera button will let you capture footage from the on-board camera while recording the screen.9to5Macs TakeThese upcoming changes wont move the needles for the masses, but for those that use screen recording on a regular basis, these are welcomed additions. All three features, especially the video overlay, will make for a more useful utility. What do you think? For more, be sure to catch the latest episode of iOS Decoded, where I discuss this new upcoming feature, plus many more new enhancements that are destined for iOS 18.3.Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Goldman Sachs Starts Process of Replacing Bankers With AI
    futurism.com
Global investment firm Goldman Sachs is ready to start replacing its employees with AI.The company announced that it's rolled out a "GS AI assistant" to around 10,000 employees as part of its longer-term effort to introduce AI-powered "employees," as CNBC reports.Goldmanchief information officer Marco Argenti told the broadcaster that the AI assistant will be tasked with summarizing and proofreading emails,as well as translating code between programming languages, for the time being."Think about all the tasks that you might want to complete with regards to a variety of use cases for all those professions that can be now at your fingertips," Argenti told CNBC.The initiative is symptomatic of a larger trend, with banks including JPMorgan and Morgan Stanley doubling down on the use of AI tools. They frequently frame the experiments as efforts to make their employees' lives easier. But it doesn't take much reading between the lines that leaders are hopeful they'll eventually be able to replace human staffers with AI, especially if Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's recent pronouncements are anything to go by.Argenti predicts that in a matter of three to five years, AI models could start to erode the lines between humans and AI."The AI assistant becomes really like talking to another GS employee," Argenti told CNBC.How useful the tool will actually prove remains to be seen. AI models have been repeatedly shown to "hallucinate" facts, a glaring problem that engineers are still struggling to eliminate.AI-based tools have also into a major cybersecurity concern, with companies finding out the hard way that AI chatbots still tend to leak sensitive data.Despite the tech's well-documented shortcomings and risks, Goldmanis doubling down."As we progress, the second step is when youre starting to have this agentic behavior, that is, 'Im completing a task on behalf of a Goldman employee, and I need to take a set of steps,'" Argenti told CNBC. "Thats where the model is going to start to do things like a Goldman employee, not only say things like a Goldman employee."Argenti also claimed that the AI would eventually learn how to check its own work, much like a human employee would.Eventually, as Bloomberg found earlier this year, global investment banks may cut as many as 200,000 jobs thanks to the emergence of competent AI models. Those that involve "routine, repetitive tasks are at risk"will be at particular risk, as Bloomberg Intelligence senior analyst Tomasz Noetzel told the broadcaster."But AI will not eliminate them fully, rather it will lead to workforce transformation," he added. It's a common refrain we've heard tech leaders repeat for years and Argenti is happy to join the chorus."In my opinion, it always boils down to people," he told CNBC. "People are going to make a difference, because people are going to be the ones that actually evolve the AI, educate the AI, empower the AI, and then take action."More on AI automation: Zuckerberg Announces Plans to Automate Facebook Coding Jobs With AIShare This Article

  • Trump Appears to Be Dissolving the National Space Council at SpaceX's Request
    futurism.com
Will Trump bow to Musk's will?Dead SpacePresident Donald Trump seems poised to dissolve the White House's National Space Council after being heavily lobbied by SpaceX to do so, Reuters reports which ultimately sounds like a roundabout way of saying Elon Musk wants it gone, and is getting what he wants.Per Reuters' reporting, SpaceX's top lobbyist Mat Dunn, along with Trump's aides, have told associates that they think the Space Council is a "waste of time" echoing the anti-bureaucratic rhetoric aimed at federal agencies that Trump and Musk have championed (see: DOGE).Further auguring its demise, Trump's team hasn't contacted the Space Council about its transition plans following his election victory, a Reuters source said, even though he has extended this courtesy to other agencies, including NASA. Its offices have mostly been emptied, a source said, while its website currently displays a "404 page not found" error.Blood PanelThe US's original Space Council was formed in 1958 under president Eisenhower, but its existence has always been shaky, being disbanded and revived on several occasions. Most recently it was reestablished in 2017 by Trump, to great fanfare from space enthusiasts. By law, it's supposed to be chaired by the Vice President. Now, its fate hangs in the balance once again,if it hasn't already been decided behind the scenes. That it's being seriously considered for the chopping block at all is a sign of Musk's closeness to, if not influence over, Trump, for whom he spent hundreds of millions of dollars to help win the presidency.Big picture, it's also symptomatic of the private space industry's rapid rise in influence, in many ways supplanting NASA's dominance. NASA has come to rely heavily on SpaceX's launch capabilities. Its own attempt at developing a super heavy rocket, SLS, has dragged on for years and has only launched once, while SpaceX's alternative, Starship, has seen action seven times, albeit it with mixed results. There's also the success of Starlink, Musk's satellite constellation-based internet service, which SpaceX is able to replenish and expand with its own rockets.Obstacle RemovalThe upshot is that Musk and SpaceX will want to continue that rapid upward trajectory. A policy panel solely dedicated to space, even under a friendly administration, might be seen as just another bureaucratic hurdle. As Reuters notes, the panel stirred discontent in the commercial space sector with a 2023 proposal that would give relevant federal agencies a mandate to license private space activities, in effect giving the government greater supervision over private missions in space.Musk in particular has a well-documented vendetta against the Federal Aviation Administration, calling for the resignation of its chief last year. The FAA has final say over what gets launched and has often delayed greenlighting Starship launches, much to Elon's chagrin. With the National Space Council out the window, it would likely mean Musk would have the president ear's on space policy without being checked by the VP, who would normally chair the council.More on Trump: Trump Set to Approve $500 Billion Deal to Build Huge AI DatacentersShare This Article
