  • Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 Season 2 -- All The New Multiplayer Maps
    www.gamespot.com
Season 2 kicks off soonCall of Duty: Black Ops 6's Season 2 kicks off on January 28. The new season delivers a host of new content to the game, including more multiplayer maps and a handful of new and returning modes.Five new maps for Season 2 have been announced, and in this gallery, we're running through all of them and explaining what they're all about. Not all of the maps are totally new, however, as Season 2 delivers a remastered version of the Black Ops II map, Grind, which is set in a skate park.Of the five maps for Season 2, three are coming at launch, with two more coming during the season. This type of phased rollout is typical for Call of Duty. All of the Black Ops 6 multiplayer maps are free for all players. This has been common practice in recent years, but it wasn't always this way. Activision used to charge for individual map packs, and this was criticized for fracturing the playerbase. As for the new and returning modes, players can look forward to a souped-up version of Team Deathmatch called Overdrive as well as the return of the always-fun Gun Game. There are two new Valentine's Day-themed multiplayer modes coming as well.Click through the images in the gallery below to find out everything you need to know about the new Black Ops 6 multiplayer maps and modes for Season 2. Bounty A brand-new map for 6v6 modes, Bounty is a medium-sized multiplayer map set on top of a skyscraper. The lore of the map is that the Rogue faction are visiting the penthouse to celebrate previous victories, and the space is indeed themed around opulence. Players will find a gold-plated nightclub and a lounge with top-shelf booze. Bounty Activision says the "party is in the front, but business is in the back," referring to an office in the back room that is actually a place where a crime lord would torture his victims. This room is filled with "unpleasant evidence" of that. "Race over the tarp and battle between the unfinished walls or move out to the Rooftop for a tactical breath of fresh air. Shoot the glass out from underneath your enemys feet on the Skylight, or race along the outer Ledge, jumping over the top of a neon sight to reach the other side, as Bounty has plenty of routes to learn if you aren't scared of heights," reads a line from the map's description. Dealership Another brand-new, medium-sized Black Ops 6 map coming for the Season 2 launch is called Dealership. This is a car dealership that is actually a front for black market criminal activity. DealershipThe Dealership map has a car lot and a showroom, along with sliding doors that players can use to slow down oncoming enemies. Snipers are in for a treat, too, as the map as an administrative office with two windows that serves as a sniper nest. There is also a floor vent, which Activision said can be used to surprise enemies with an RC-XD. Lifeline Lifeline is a brand-new, small-sized map that will be available at launch for Season 2. It takes place in the middle of the ocean on a yacht named Lifeline. The ship is on fire, though, leading to some dangerous scenarios. Lifeline Lifeline is a very small map, so players can expect the lanes to funnel combatants together very quickly. The yacht has a gambling table, a disco room, and a bar. BulletBullet is a brand-new, small-sized multiplayer map coming to Black Ops 6 in the middle of Season 2. The map takes place on a fast-moving bullet train, so expect tight quarters and lots of action. Bullet Again, this is a very small map, so players should expect fast and frenetic encounters. Each car has automatic sliding doors, and cars include a first-class lounge and a dining car. There is a rooftop hatch, too, but Activision warns that players need to stay alert or they'll run the risk of getting jettisoned off the train. Grind Finally, Black Ops 6's remaster map, Grind, takes players back to the environment first seen in Black Ops 2. This map, which is coming sometime during Season 2 and not at launch, takes place in a skatepark, and it features both indoor and outdoor areas. GrindGrind features a massive skate bowl and half-pipe in the outdoor sections, along with lots of ramps. Finally, Activision teased that players can expect "an additional surprise related to this map, later in the season," so fans will have to wait to see what that is.

  • Doom: The Dark Ages launches on PS5 May 15 id Software reveals new gameplay details
    blog.playstation.com
Hello everybody! This is Hugo Martin, Game Director on Doom: The Dark Ages reporting from the offices at id Software we are all hard at work polishing this latest installment in the franchise. Its almost ready and we cant wait for you to play it. In the meantime, we have a new look at gameplay we put together for you. Theres lots to breakdown from the video, so lets get started Im guessing youve got some questions, let me try and give you some more detailsPlay VideoWhats the new combat loop in Dark Ages, and hows it different from Eternal or Doom (2016)?High level you could say its a blend of the two but with a new, medieval toolkit. Were looking to create an experience that has the depth of Eternals loop with the simplicity of Doom (2016)s control scheme. As a player, you performed a lot of cool actions in Eternal, and each action/attack had its own input. In Dark Ages we have a brand-new set of cool medieval actions to perform but this time, with fewer buttons to press! The depth/simplicity is achieved by making the behavior of items like the Shield-Saw change based on the material it interacts with. Its contextual: the shield throw ricochets off plasma shields hitting other enemies (feels awesome), it sticks into flesh (stun locking larger demons), or it can shatter armor creating an AOE blast all with a single button press.I love analogies: it all adds up to us having fewer strings on the guitar this time but we added frets to maintain the mechanical depth of the experience, giving the player something new to learn and master. With all of this, we are relying on familiar FPS inputs to execute these moves, giving the loop an intuitive learning curve. The actions feel impactful and fun to execute, and the results give you a tactical advantage fun on the outside smart on the inside. What do the rings around enemies indicate? The yellow rings you see appearing around the characters are falter indicators. Falters is a meta in Eternal and 2016. Great players figured out what caused falters and they started to stack those attacks to stun-lock powerful enemies (which is what we hoped theyd do). Its important that we clearly identify the moment an enemy falters in Dark Ages so more players can begin to explore what causes it and how they can use it to their advantage. You dont have to rely on falters to be successful but on higher difficulties it can give you an extra advantage and if you choose to play on Ultra Nightmare youll need every advantage you can get!More story in Doom?Yes! There are three pillars of engagement in Dark Ages; combat, exploration and story three reasons to play, narrative is just one of them. Players dont want a story in Doom, they want a good one, something that enhances the power fantasy, gives you even more motivation to fight through to the end of the campaign. Through story we can build bigger and better adversaries, worlds to discover and obstacles to overcome. The story synopsis reads: With the Slayer imprisoned at the start of Dark Ages the balance of power between good and evil is shifting, and time is running out. Our hero is a feared outsider among an imperiled people, his strength controlled by the gods they serve, in a world under siege by an ancient evil.At this point in the Doom Universe timeline, this game being a prequel we start at the beginning of the Slayers time with the Sentinels. He is the outlander, blessed with power by the Sentinels gods known as the Maykrs. Our subjugated hero stands now as the superweapon in a medieval war against the armies of hell. When does it come out?May 15, 2025! We are so excited for you to get your hands on what we hope will become the best Doom game weve ever made. Its got something for everyone, loads of great combat, tons of exploration and an awesome action story thats worthy of the Slayers legend. Plus youve got encounters with the Atlan (giant Doom mech) and Dragon to look forward to!Anyway, thanks for reading look out for more info to come.

  • Epic Games Store will add monthly free games, 20 third-party titles to mobile app
    www.polygon.com
Epic Games Store will soon charge through Apples efforts to mitigate the downloading of apps from third-party marketplaces to iOS and iPadOS namely, Apples Core Technology Fee. Epic will add 20 third-party titles to its mobile store in the European Union, the region impacted by the fee policy, and itll pay the fees in full for one year. The policy dictates that Apple charge a steep per-download fee 50 cents in Euros for every download of a game from a third-party store after 1 million downloads. Epic will also offer free games each month, as reported by The Verge.Epic launched its mobile store for Apple and Android in August 2024, with the Apple store only available in the EU due to the Digital Markets Act there, which prevents monopoly by enforcing market competition. Other publishers and marketplaces, like Steam and PlayStation, are able to list their apps on the Apple App Store because the apps dont include any downloading of games via their apps rather, some apps allow you to stream your games from the cloud and others function solely as a way to manage other assets from your account, like screenshots. Its not just Apple that seeks to lock down app sales Epic Games Store also doesnt meet the requirements for Googles Play Store in the U.S.The Verge also reported that Epics statements in a Thursday press briefing argued many mobile game developers arent on its store because Apple and Google discourage them with restrictions and fees.As for the 20 new third-party games, we still dont know what theyll be. A post on Epics X (formerly Twitter) account said its run into a few bugs that were working through now. Epics statements do, however, insinuate that the third-party games will be available to mobile app users in any region where the mobile app exists.Polygon has contacted Epic Games Store and Apple for comment and clarification and has not yet heard back. Well update the story when we learn more.
