• 9 Nokia Employees Warned About iPhone But No One Listened
    cgshares.com
Ah, Nokia. The very name itself fills my 00s-kids heart with nostalgia about the simpler times, when everyone and their mother had some form of Nokia phone in their pocket, and the company itself absolutely dominated the mobile phone market, boasting a global market share of over 50% in 2007.Nowadays, few remember the smartphone Ozymandias, and even fewer can say they still own one of their models, with companies like Apple, Samsung, and Xiaomi now reigning supreme, holding 19%, 17%, and 14% of the market, respectively. While these percentages are in the same ballpark, its Apples iPhone that most deserves the title of Nokia killer, as the Finnish giants decline began shortly after the iPhones debut in 2007, with its market share dropping from 50% to just 3% in a record-breaking five years.SSPL/GettyNokias history, however, could have taken a completely different turn, as according to a newly discovered presentation shared on January 10, 2007 a day after the iPhones reveal at least nine Nokia employees were aware of the potential threat posed by Apples smartphone and tried to warn about Apple becoming a serious competitor, meaning that the king of mobile phones had a head start but failed to leverage it and ultimately lost its crown.First spotted by Fahadx, the presentation was found in the Nokia Design Archive, unveiled earlier this month, and is titled Apple iPhone was launched (yes, it is iPhone). Despite its humorous title, the content itself is dead serious, outlining the best qualities of the then-novel smartphone and correctly predicting a significant market share impact by 2008.The presentation reveals that what concerned Nokia engineers the most were the new kid in the block OS X and the iPhones user interface. They noted that the UI may change the standards of the superior user experience for the whole market, and recommended the companys leadership to focus primarily on developing a touch UI to counter the threat.User interface has been a big strength for Nokia consumer research indicates this is in decline, the presentation reads. Urgent action needed to prevent further erosion of this position. Appoint Nokia Head of UI i.e. not tied to BG or platform. Nokia needs to develop touch UI to fight back. S60 should be focus, but Maemo platform can be a critical strength due to openness. The authors also speculated on Apples potential position in the handset, smartphone, and mobile platforms markets, correctly predicting that Steve Jobs company would become a Top-10 smartphone vendor and mobile platform, placing it just behind Nokia and its Symbian OS in second place a forecast that, in retrospect, may just be one of the greatest understatements in tech history:The presentation also features a detailed list outlining the recommended actions Nokia must take to stay on top, including advice such as prioritize touch UI development, analyse what could be Apples next release of iPhone mini to mass market price points and plan counter-measures for it, kill market for such an expensive device by filling mid-range with own/Google/Yahoo experiences, investigate and play hard in possible IPR infringements, and highlight potential weaknesses of the iPhone, among others:We highly encourage you to check out the full presentation here. • Counter-Strike 2 Bug Allowing Texture Changes & Cheating Was Fixed
    cgshares.com
Players discovered a critical exploit in a new Counter-Strike 2 update, accidentally letting them bypass the server rules and change the game elements. However, Valve has already fixed the bug.As told by YouTuber MrMaxim, the bug allowed players to modify certain things in the game and play with the applied changes on official servers. The YouTuber explained that with the bug, players could replace specific files to modify textures and elements like doors, boxes, and even the player models, which could be used as a way to cheat and bypass the in-game limitations. The blogger suggested that probably playing with those changes wouldnt be regarded as cheating, though it was not certain. What is more, the exploit has reportedly been present in the game for about six months. However, it is said that the bug has now been fixed, though Valve didnt mention it in the latest patch notes, which focus on minor performance optimization for some CPU-bound cases, recoil setting during spectating, and support for updating existing map annotations on Steam Workshop. Also, check out these creative CS2 maps created by the game enthusiast Lillykyu, in which the creator combines the games world with the elements from other titles or even software:A Microsoft Paint map for Counter-Strike 2:A custom map that allows you to experience Jetpack Joyride entirely within Counter-Strike 2:A Fruit Ninja-inspired Counter-Strike 2 map:Dont forget to join our 80 Level Talent platform and our new Discord server, follow us on Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Telegram, TikTok, and Threads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Counter-Strike 2 Bug Allowing Texture Changes & Cheating Was Fixed appeared first on CG SHARES.

  • 10 Years Later, Endless Legend 2 Revealed With An Unsettling First Trailer
    www.gamespot.com
Just over a decade ago, Amplitude Studios released Endless Legend, an inventive 4X fantasy-strategy game. Now, Amplitude Studios is unveiling the sequel, Endless Legend 2, and sharing an early look at Saiadha, the oceanic world that will be featured in the game. The trailer below hints at the ultimate power behind Saiadha and reveals some grim implications about the nature of the world itself. The male speaker in the trailer is never identified by name, but he does describe himself as a god. More tellingly, the female whispers that accompany the male voice define this "god" in less flattering terms such as "prisoner" and "dust." The god also hints that the planet itself is his prison and the oceans are his chains. Regardless, the speaker is confident that one of the warring factions will eventually find him and potentially set him free.According to the game's description, players will "face ancient perils and new threats, and unravel the unfathomable secret that lies at the planet's core." If the male voice really is a god, then the core may be where he's been hidden away. As for Saiadha itself, the planet is prone to the whims of the monstrous waves. The entire landscape can be transformed by the impact of the water around it, which threatens any civilizations with cataclysm, death, and potentially starvation.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • Doom: The Dark Ages Release In May With Giant Mech And Cybernetic Dragon Vehicles
    www.gamespot.com
Doom: The Dark Ages releases on May 15, Bethesda announced during a segment in today's Xbox Developer Direct showcase. The lengthy look at the upcoming prequel to Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal also showed much more detail about the weaponry, mission structure, and the story.Calling this entry a "return to form," Bethesda said that it aimed to shift the feeling of Doom again. Whereas Doom Eternal wanted to make you fight like a fighter jet, Dark Ages makes you an iron tank who can stand your ground. That's thanks largely to the versatility of the new Shield Saw. This piece of equipment lets you block, parry, and attack, with each function complementing your array of firearms. And, Bethesda noted, this means strafing is a viable strategy again. There's also a revised Glory Kill that's more contextual and varied based on your weapons and the angle you're facing the enemy demons.Though you'll be spending most of your time killing demons on foot as the Slayer, you'll also pilot both a giant mech and a cybernetic dragon. The studio noted that each has its own suite of abilities and minibosses to fight. In a deep dive into a mission, we saw the Slayer confronting a large battle taking place outside a medieval castle, with an open sandbox to discover secrets and resources. After breaking through the enemy lines, you can go back to the main castle gates to trigger what appears to be a giant boss battle.Continue Reading at GameSpot

    gamerant.com
On March 20, Assassin's Creed Shadows will welcome players to Japan's tumultuous Azuchi-Momoyama period as they step into the shoes of samurai Yasuke and shinobi Naoe. Working with these two protagonists, both of whom have a very distinct play style, was tricky for the Assassin's Creed Shadows development team, but it was also a lot of fun and allowed them to create a game that would truly feel unique for each player.

  • Pokmon TCG Pocket to add Tool cards and they could dramatically shake up battles
    www.polygon.com
When youve filter through your collection in Pokmon Trading Card Game Pocket, you may notice an option to filter for Pokmon Tool cards. Theres nothing ever there, because Pokmon TCG Pocket doesnt currently have any Pokmon Tool cards. But that appears to be changing with the Space-Time Expansion announced Thursday. When the update is released on Jan. 30, its likely that the 140 new cards will include at least several Pokmon Tool cards, as evidenced by the description of one card shown during the teaser trailer. The Pachirisu ex card has a move called Sparkling Gadget, which mentions having a Pokmon Tool attached. Its the first mention of the card type beyond the filter system. Its still unclear how the Pokmon Tool cards will function in Pokmon TCG Pocket, but theyre likely to be similar to the physical trading card game. Pokmon Tool cards are basically like held items in the video games: if you attach a Float Stone to a Pokmon in the physical card game, retreat cost is decreased, for instance. There, you can attach berries, stones, shards all sorts of things that add a new variable to how the cards interact in the game.Trainer cards in the game, so far, are Items, Fossils, or Supporters. Pokmon Tool cards add another element to slide into your decks.A lot hinges on how Tool cards are implemented. Will the Pokmon Company increase the amount of cards you can hold in your deck due to the new card type? Will the cards be adjusted for Pokmon TCG Pocket? Theres still a lot that we dont know, but it could be an interesting variable that injects some freshness into the battling system, which can feel stale when the same decks get run over and over again. Without a deck size increase, the addition of tools means players will have to strategize over whether to prioritize Tool cards or other types theres likely to be more variety seen across decks as players decide what better suits their particular playstyle over purely whats in the meta.An increase of deck size would be a major change to Pokmon TCG Pocket, and it feels less likely that well see that. But theres really only one guarantee: Come next week, with the injection of 140 cards into the game, expect a meta shakeup and tons more cards to collect.

  • How to Archive your Cybertruck and other items in Fortnite
    www.polygon.com
Generally speaking, the Archive feature in Fortnite is used to hide ugly items while picking out cosmetics for a character. However, since the inaugurationofDonald Trump on Monday, Fortnite players have been using the feature for a very specific reason: to remove the Tesla Cybertruck from the game. Its all in response to an event on Monday, where Tesla CEO Elon Musk performed a gesture that many said looked remarkably like a Nazi salute twice while live on stage. Since then, people have been protesting Musk in all kinds of ways and Fortnite players have been discussing ways to remove the Tesla Cybertruck cosmetic item added to the game last July.Question, is it possible to message Epic support to remove something from your locker forever? wrote one user in Reddit post upvoted more than 4,300 times. After recent events I dont even want this thing in my archives even. Looking for genuine help on the matter.Unfortunately for the Cybertruck-havers, the Archive feature in Fortnite doesnt permanently delete an item from an account. It just hides it from the main Locker menu. But you can at least Archive it and forget it. So if youre among the people who are now regretting having the Cybertruck, heres how to Archive it (and other items) from your Fortnite Locker. How to Archive items in Fortnite Launch Fortnite on your device. Look at the top left-hand corner of the screen and select the Locker option. From the Locker menu, navigate to the item that you would like to hide. Once your cursor is highlighting the correct item, pull up a submenu for it. You can do this in two ways depending on your platform. If youre using a console, press and hold the left stick on your controller. If youre using a PC, click the button that pops up when you hover your mouse over it. Once you pull up the sub menu, select Archive Item and the item will disappear from your Locker. Does Archiving delete items in Fortnite?Archiving an item in Fortnite does not permanently delete it from your account. It will just hide it from your main Locker menu screens. If you would like un-Archive an item, here is how to do that.Launch Fortnite on your device. Look at the top left-hand corner of the screen and select the Locker option.Within the Locker menu, navigate to the kind of cosmetic item you previously Arhived. For example, if you Archived a Guitar, go to the Guitar section within the Instruments menu.Select the Sort Filter button located near the top right-hand corner of the screen next to the search bar. This will pull up a menu to sort your cosmetic items. On there, scroll down to the Filter section and select Archived option. Once selected, click the Apply button. This will pull up the item(s) you previously Archived. Once your cursor is highlighting the correct item, you will need to pull up a submenu for it. You can do this in two ways depending on your platform. If youre using a console, press and hold the left stick on your controller. If youre using a PC, click the button that pops up when you hover your mouse over it.Then click Unarchive Item. It will show up in your Locker as usual after that. Some people online have wondered if the support team at Epic Games could remove a particular cosmetic item from their account. Polygon reached out to Epic Games to ask if this is a possible avenue for consumers to permanently delete items from their account, and well update the article as we hear back.

Its design includes adjustable feet for soundbar placement and cable management clips to keep things organized, though wall-mounting might be tricky due to recessed ports. Samsung - 65 Class S85D Series OLED 4K Smart Tizen TV (2024) $997.99 at Amazon $1,897.99 Save $900.00 Get Deal Get Deal $997.99 at Amazon $1,897.99 Save $900.00 The S85D uses a WOLED panel, delivering signature OLED perks like perfect blacks, vivid colors, and infinite contrast. Its a stunner in dark rooms, and thanks to excellent reflection handling and decent SDR brightness, it performs surprisingly well in well-lit spaces too. It also reportedly excels at upscaling low-resolution content to make older steams look better. Pair it with its fast response times (that keep motion looking smooth) and wide viewing angles and you have yourself a great TV for movie nights and gaming marathons. That said, the HDR performance of the S85D isnt as impactful as youd hope, especially in Game Mode where the TV's Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL) dims large, bright scenes. For gamers, this TV is PlayStation 5 and Xbox ready, supporting 4K at 120Hz, and offering features like Auto Low Latency Mode, FreeSync Premium Pro, HDMI 2.1, and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for tear-free, low-lag gameplay. On the downside, it lacks Dolby Vision, limiting HDR gaming potential. Additionally, the TV's interface includes ads that cant be fully disabled. If youre exploring alternatives, the LG OLED B4 Series TV is worth a look, currently priced at $996.99 (down from $1,099.99).
