  • The Apple Vision Pro feature that could change how you work
    9to5mac.com
Apple Vision Pro can transport you from a small, distracting room to an expansive outdoor landscape with the flick of a dial. These immersive environments are great for escaping especially Mount Hood and the Moon. But heres the thing. Bora Bora is perfect for relaxation but the beach makes me want to unplug, not type away at a keyboard. Next, I would love to see Apple tackle more populated spaces like libraries and cafs.Imagine turning your dull, distracting surroundings into the Rose Main Reading Room at the New York Public Library. Struggling to concentrate and get the job done? Turn the Digital Crown, and suddenly, youre in NASAs Mission Control Room in Houston. If you work in isolation and youre looking for inspiration, it might be especially helpful to take your work to the Caf de Flore in Paris, France. Focus better with the ambient buzz of people around you? Set up shop in Tokyos Akihabara District. These environments could transform dull office spaces into inspiring settings. Nothing beats physically being in these places, but spatial computing could bring the benefits of a library or caf when you cant actually be there.Right now, tons of apps offer environments like these, but system-level environments let you stay immersed across multiple apps. What virtual environments should Apple Vision Pro add next? • These five Apple products could launch as soon as next month
    9to5mac.com
Weve been off to a light start in 2025 in terms of Apple products, with the main announcement this year being the new Black Unity Sport Loop. However, were approaching the spring time, and Apple has five relatively major products in the pipeline.iPhone SE 4Perhaps the biggest announcement for the spring will be Apples most affordable new iPhone: the iPhone SE. This is expected to be the biggest upgrade to the iPhone SE since it debuted in 2016, bringing it up to date with the modern iPhone lineup. Its expected to finally be dropping the home button, with a new form factor similar to the iPhone 14. iPhone SE 4 will also be Apples first iPhone to integrate an in-house modem, transitioning away from Qualcomm. Itll also adopt the USB-C connector. Apple may also drop the iPhone SE name in favor of iPhone 16E, according to one rumor. To learn more about the iPhone SE 4, you can read about it in our dedicated guide:iPhone SE 4 coming this spring with these 5 upgradesApples cheapest iPad is likely going to get its first update in over 2 years this spring, with the main focus being Apple Intelligence support. The last iPad refresh brought the first redesign to the base iPad since Apple started making budget iPads, so there likely wont be any design changes.Rumors currently say that we should expect the A17 Pro chip to arrive in this model, similar to the iPad mini. This chip originally debuted in iPhone 15 Pro in 2023.iPad 11 coming soon with these three upgradesMacBook Air with M4Although this is going to be a smaller refresh (especially now that Apple added 16GB of RAM to the existing M2 and M3 MacBook Air models), Apple will still be adopting the new M4 chip in the MacBook Air this spring. Its also possible that this MacBook Air launches even sooner than the spring time, as Bloombergs Mark Gurman has previously mentioned that this product is on an earlier timeline. We dont expect any changes outside of the chip upgrade, though it would be cool to get the new Center Stage camera that the latest MacBook Pros have. You can learn more in our dedicated guide:M4 MacBook Air: Four new features are coming very soonThis is also going to be a small refresh, but the iPad Air will likely get an update next spring, according to Bloombergs Mark Gurman. Itll likely be equipped with an M3 chip, as well as an all new Magic Keyboard just for iPad Air.Read more:Next-gen iPad Air: Heres what to expect this yearSmart home displayApples first smart home product with a display is also on track to be introduced as soon as next month, marking Apples first HomePod (of sorts) to support Apple Intelligence. Its expected to be a cheaper display thats both wall mountable and attachable to speakers. Itll have a roughly 7-inch square display.Learn more about Apples next big product:HomePad: Here are five features coming with Apples brand new productWrap upApple is also expected to release an updated AirTag model, likely with a newer ultra wide band chipset. Other than that, its unclear whatll change. As for products like the Mac Studio and Mac Pro, those arent expected until around mid 2025. And of course, iOS 18.4 is also expected around the spring time, which should provide the final suite of initial Apple Intelligence features announced at WWDC24, including the revamped Siri. Are you excited for Apples upcoming spring releases? • M3GAN Returns in First Sequel Teaser
    screencrush.com
Like all good slasher movie killers, M3GAN is back. The artificial intelligence in the form of an eerily lifelike childrensdoll was seemingly destroyed in the first film. But the film was a surprise smash, grossing more than $180 million worldwide. So M3GAN is back in a new movie fittingly titledM3GAN 2.0.The original films non-killer-doll stars, Allison WIlliams and Violet McGraw, are both back as well, although neither appears in M3GAN 2.0sfirst teaser. It mostly contains M3GAN dancing, likely because that became a focal point of the memes that sprung from the first film. You can watch it below.READ MORE: Horror Movies So Extreme They Made People Physically SickTheres a new poster for the film as well...UniversalUniversalloading...We also know the official synopsis for thesequel as well...Two years after M3GAN, a marvel of artificial intelligence, went rogue and embarked on a murderous (and impeccably choreographed) rampage and was subsequently destroyed, M3GANs creator Gemma (Allison Williams) has become a high-profile author and advocate for government oversight of A.I. Meanwhile, Gemmas niece Cady (Violet McGraw), now 14, has become a teenager, rebelling against Gemmas overprotective rules. Unbeknownst to them, the underlying tech for M3GAN has been stolen and misused by a powerful defense contractor to create a military-grade weapon known as Amelia (Ivanna Sakhno; Ahsoka, Pacific Rim: Uprising), the ultimate killer infiltration spy. But as Amelias self-awareness increases, she becomes decidedly less interested in taking orders from humans. Or in keeping them around.Lets just hope the sequel is good or there will be so many jokes about AI writing the screenplay for Universal.M3GAN 2.0is scheduled to open in theaters on June 27.Get our free mobile app12 Movie Performances So Bad They Became IconicThey might be bad, but they're also impossible to forget.Gallery Credit: Emma StefanskyFiled Under: M3GAN, M3GAN 2.0Categories: Movie News, Trailers

In BriefPosted:7:19 PM PST February 2, 2025Image Credits:VCG/VCG / Getty ImagesDeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng receives a heros welcome back homeDeepSeek founder Lian Wenfeng is being hailed as a hero in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong, where he grew up and reportedly returned for the Lunar New Year, joined by bodyguards.Wenfengwho, at 40, is already a billionaire due to his hedge fund, High-Flyeris apparently even more beloved by locals following DeepSeeks breakthrough research, which demonstrated that powerful AI models could be built with fewer Nvidia chips. The finding has significant implications, particularly in China, where access to the highest-end chips has been restricted.Residents tell the Financial Times that Wenfeng was a top student who loved comic books, was a math whiz, and came from a family of educators. According to one local, Wenfeng also played some football. We all grew up in this village, the resident tells the FT. Were very proud of him.Despite his rising star, Wenfeng has largely avoided public attention, frustrating those eager to learn more about him. Given the fate of high-flying Chinese CEOs like Jack Ma and Pony Ma who faced government scrutiny after gaining a little too much visibility dont be surprised if Wenfeng chooses to stay in the background.Topics

  • India expands Aadhaar authentication for businesses, raising privacy concerns
    techcrunch.com
India has eased restrictions on its Aadhaar authentication service, a digital identity verification framework linked to the biometrics of over 1.4 billion people, to let businesses including those offering services such as e-commerce, travel, hospitality, and healthcare use the verification system to authenticate their customers. The update has raised privacy concerns as New Delhi has yet to define the guardrails it would consider to avoid misuse of individuals biometric IDs.On Friday, the Indian IT ministry introduced the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Amendment Rules, 2025 to amend the legislation introduced in 2020 as a consequence of a Supreme Court judgment that restricted the access of private entities seeking Aadhaar data. The new amendment comes nearly two years after the Indian government began its public consultation, the responses to which have not been disclosed. The update aims to enhance scope and utility of Aadhaar authentication by allowing the usage of Aadhaar for improving service delivery and enables both government and non-government entities to avail Aadhaar authentication service for providing various services in the public interest, the IT ministry said in its press statement.Compared to their previous version, the amended rules excluded the sub-rule that allowed Aadhaar authentication to prevent the leaking of public funds. This broadens the scope of the unique ID-based verification provided by the Indian governments Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) and expands the authentication service to various public and private sectors. Previously, banking and telecom operators predominantly used Aadhaar authentication to onboard new customers and verify their existing consumers.Aadhaar authentication hit 129.93 billion transactions in January, up from 109.13 billion in February last year, per the UIDAI website. National Informatics Center, National Health Agency, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Punjab National Bank were among the top entities using Aadhaar-based authentication to verify their users this month.Aadhaar Authentication TrendImage Credits:UIDAIUnder the new rules, entities looking to enable Aadhaar authentication will be required to apply with the details of intended requirements the concerned ministry or department of the Central or the State government which will be examined by UIDAI and MeitY [the IT ministry] that will approve these applications based on UIDAIs recommendation, the government stated. What criteria the MeitY and UIDAI would be taking into consideration for evaluating such applications have to be made clearer and more transparent to weed out misuse, which is a concern flagged by the Supreme Court while deliberating on Section 57 of the Aadhaar Act, said Kamesh Shekar, a digital governance lead at New Delhi-based tech policy think-tank The Dialogue.Section 57 of the Aadhaar Act 2016, which the Supreme Court struck down in 2018, allowed private entities to use the Aadhaar numbers to establish individuals identities. The Indian government amended the Aadhaar Act in 2019 to enable voluntary authentication based on Aadhaar. However, that amendment has been challenged and is currently pending in the Supreme Court.Prasanna S, an advocate-on-record in the Supreme Court, who was among the advocates fighting for the Right to Privacy and had challenged the Aadhaar Act, said the amendment attempts to re-legislate the struck-down Section 57.Licensing regime existed even earlier under the 2020 rules. But now, with the access being expanded, the concern with the kind of a regime gets reinforced multifold, he told TechCrunch.Sidharth Deb, associate director for public policy at the New Delhi-based consultancy firm The Quantum Hub, said the expansion of Aadhaar authentication carries the risk of exclusion.Once you start linking ID documentation or ID instruments to accessing digital services, there is always the risk of exclusion, he said. We really need to start thinking about how we define voluntary so that citizens have as much autonomy as possible to be able to access digital services in as frictionless a manner as possible.TechCrunch has reached out to the Indian IT ministry about the key concerns raised by policy experts and the measures in place to prevent Aadhaars misuse and will update when the ministry responds.

  • The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Is Big, Bold And Boring
    www.forbes.com
Samsung Galaxy S25 UltraPrakhar KhannaThe Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra is a prime example of how mainstream brands are shifting their priorities in phone hardware upgrades. While the Galaxy S24 Ultra introduced AI with more personality, the new flagship takes it a step further. Samsung is betting big on AI-powered features to set the Galaxy S25 Ultra apart from the competitionthough the upgrades feel more evolutionary than revolutionary.Ive used the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra for a week and heres why I think its big, bold, and boring. The Big - Refined Design And A Better DisplaySamsung Galaxy S24 Ultra vs Galaxy S25 Ultra curved corners and flat sidesPrakhar KhannaIts no secret that Samsungs Ultra devices are some of the biggest in their segments, but the subtle changes in the Galaxy S25 Ultras design make it feel even bigger in the hand. At 218 grams, the Galaxy S25 Ultra is lighter than the Galaxy S24 Ultra (232 grams). Youll be able to tell the weight difference, but Samsung made a design choice that negates the benefits of weight lossat least for me.The Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra features rounded corners, so it doesnt dig into your palm but theyre accompanied by flat sides and sharp edges.I hold my phone with my palm and thumb on the left side, three fingers wrapped around the right side, and my pinky finger at the bottom. Due to the flat sides and sharp edges, I cant get a good grip, which puts more weight on my pinky fingerresulting in pain in both the finger and wrist after 30 minutes of use. If you hold your phone like me, this is something to be mindful of. I suggest adding a case to solve this.Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra displayPrakhar KhannaMORE FOR YOUIf you can get past the new design quirks, youre greeted by the best display on a phone. Its a 6.9-inch AMOLED screen with slimmer bezels and the same 1Hz-120Hz dynamic refresh rate, QHD+ resolution, and 2,600 nits of peak brightness. The only change is the presence of an upgraded Gorilla Armor 2.I liked the anti-reflective coating of Gorilla Armor on the Galaxy S24 Ultra last year, and the Galaxy S25 Ultra takes it a step further. The Armor 2 is stronger and offers a better anti-reflective coating that doesnt interfere with the popping colors on the screen. From browsing to doom-scrolling Reels to watching movies, I loved consuming content on this display.Unlike the OnePlus 13 and Vivo X200 Pro, the Galaxy S25 Ultra doesnt chase an IP69 rating. It offers only IP68 protection against dust and water submersion, which is more than enough for most people. Its also Qi2-ready, which means the phone doesnt sport magnets inside its body but you can add a magnetic case to take advantage of Qi2 wireless charging capabilities. Im not a fan of adding accessories to make the most of my new device but Samsung says lack of magnets allowed it to make the phone lighter. The Bold Doubling Down On AI Over Hardware UpgradesGalaxy S25 Ultra with Galaxy S24 Ultra in the backgroundPrakhar KhannaSamsungs approach with the Galaxy S25 Ultra is bold because it relies heavily on AI features to stand outboth from the competition and its predecessor. It prioritizes software uniqueness over meaningful hardware upgrades, adding to the list of incremental upgrade pointers. In my hands-on, I noted contextual AI as the big talking point of the Galaxy S25 series. After spending a week with the Galaxy S25 Ultra, I can confirm it improves the user experience with a couple of AI features, while others remain wonky.Starting with the new feature that Ive loved using: AI Select. Its like Circle to Search, but instead of searching the web for selected on-screen information, it suggests on-device actions. For instance, if I select a part of the screen that mentions the time, date, and location for an invite, itll suggest an Add to Calendar option. Tap on it, and this information is added to the Calendar app. I still double-check all info (because AI), but it has been one of the most accurate Galaxy AI features for me.One UI 7 also brings a new way to interact with active apps on the lock screen through Now Bar. Its like the Dynamic Island but located at the bottom of the screen. If you have music playing while navigating to a place, itll display that information in cards stacked on top of each other. You can take action on them from the lock screen. Like the Dynamic Island implementation on the iPhone 14 series at launch, Now Bar is in the early stages and limited to a handful of apps. The Galaxy S25 Ultra includes a new way to consolidate information you might need in one place. Its called Now Brief and its an app-widget hybrid that gathers details like your schedule, weather, and data from Samsung Health, providing insights into your sleeping patterns, exercises, and more. Now Brief can also suggest news, Spotify playlists, and YouTube Shorts.Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra Now BriefPrakhar KhannaBut this feature has been underwhelming for me so far. One week into using the phone, Im yet to receive any news, the suggested Spotify playlists arent based on my preferences, and Galaxy Health data is absent most of the time. At the time of writing this story, Im only seeing the weather and my schedule for today. Ill update this story if I notice any improvements as I continue using the device.Other Galaxy AI features include transcription assist, the ability to remove distractions from photos, and party tricks like Sketch to Image and generating objects in a photoall of which are quicker than before. However, Ive run into problems where the phone refused to give me a result after taking about 15 seconds to process the request.Oh, and Bixby is out of the picture. It makes way for Gemini, which works across apps now. For example, I asked it to give me a list of the top 10 places to visit in Barcelona with one-line explanations and add that list to my Google Keep. It did. Then, I asked it to send that list to my contacts on WhatsApp, and the wonky nature kicked in. It couldnt detect my contacts in that app, despite them being present as pinned chats. Gemini kept asking me to repeat myself and failed each time. It was easier and more efficient to share that note with a few taps.I can see the Galaxy AI progress from last year, but Geminis process sums up the experience of interacting with AI featuresthey work sometimes, fail most of the time, and you always have to recheck the information. Its being positioned as an easier and more efficient way to interact with your phone, but it isnt. At least, not yet.Ive found Galaxy AI to be better than Apple Intelligence, but its still a work in progress. And a WiP ideally shouldnt be a headline feature of a new launchespecially since these features arent exclusive. All of the Galaxy AI and Gemini software smarts will likely make their way to other phones, including the Galaxy S24 series (with the One UI 7 update), which could diminish the appeal of Samsungs latest flagship. The Boring Relies Heavily on Chipset OptimizationsGalaxy S25 Ultra with S PenPrakhar KhannaThe Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra features the same storage and RAM variants, the same primary and telephoto cameras, and the same battery capacity and charging speeds as its predecessor. It relies on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC to deliver better results in camera quality and batteryand it does, for the most part.Despite the presence of AI overlays, multitasking, and Edge Panel, I havent noticed any lags or stutters while using the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Its a smooth experience. The phone gets warm (not hot) to the touch when shooting photos and videos for an extended period. My typical smartphone use involves 75% Wi-Fi and 25% mobile data for browsing, researching articles, getting lost on social media (X, Threads, and Instagram), communicating with people (WhatsApp, Slack, and Teams), and capturing photos. The Galaxy S25 Ultra lasted me at least an hour longer in screen on time than the Galaxy S24 Ultra. You can expect it to deliver all-day battery life. The S Pen is great for productivity and signing documents on the go. But Samsung has downgraded its feature set. You no longer get Bluetooth functions like a remote shutter because, according to Samsung, less than 1% of users were using it, which led to the removal. Its a bummer for me since it was my most-used S Pen feature as a solo traveler on the Galaxy S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra. As for optics, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra sports an upgraded 50MP ultrawide-angle camera. It is accompanied by the same 200MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom, and a 10MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom.Galaxy S25 Ultra 1x, 5x and 10x shotsPrakhar KhannaThe results are what youd expect from a Samsung flagship bright reds and blues, great dynamic range, and blurry photos of moving subjects. You can click clear photos of moving subjects by adjusting the shutter speed in Expert RAW app but its not used by many. I shouldnt need to go to a new app and adjust settings if I want to capture my nieces cute moments.Galaxy S25 Ultra camera samplesPrakhar KhannaAs for the new ultrawide camera, it captures more details than before and its better around the edges. Ive noticed improvements in skin tones (they arent warm but more natural), better processing, and more detailed selfies. The improvement in photo quality is visible when you compare the photos clicked on Galaxy S24 Ultra and S25 Ultra side by side. The Galaxy S25 Ultra also appeals to creators with the ability to shoot log videos, better low-light video processing, and an Audio Eraser feature. Like the iPhones and Google Pixels, Samsungs new phone can detect background noise and bring the subjects voice to the forefront.Samsungs Audio Eraser can detect six different categories of noises like Voices, Wind, Nature, Crowd, Background, and Speaker. You can select, single out, and edit the ones youd like to keep in your video. I sounded a little unnatural and robotic when I slid down the Wind and Crowd sliders to focus on my voice by increasing the Speaker slider.Who is the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra for?Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra with Galaxy S24 Ultra and Galaxy S23 Ultra in the backgroundPrakhar KhannaAt $1,300 / INR 1,30,000, the Galaxy S25 Ultra isnt the most affordable flagship. Its also less of an "Ultra" in 2025, considering Samsungs high benchmarks in the past. For years, Galaxy Ultra phones were packed with features and extra capabilitieslike 10x optical zoom, an S Pen that was more than just a stylus, and designs that stood out in their respective eras.In 2025, Samsungs flagship is no longer pushing the boundaries. Its well within them. That said, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra offers the best display on a phone, fast performance, all-day battery life, and an S Pen for more precise touch. It delivers quality-of-life improvements like an even better screen and improved battery life. Its still the phone to buy for business professionals who need productivity on the go. Thanks to One UI and S Pen, its the best slab phone for productivity.

  • OpenAIs new ChatGPT agent is like a superpower, says CEO Sam Altman
    www.digitaltrends.com
OpenAI has just announced a new AI tool called Deep Research. The new AI agent is capable of conducting multi-step research on the internet for complex tasks and, according to OpenAI, accomplishes in tens of minutes what would take a human many hours. You simply give it a prompt and ChatGPT will find, analyze, and synthesize hundreds of online sources to create a comprehensive report at the level of a research analyst. OpenAI demonstrated the new feature in a video shared on Sunday (above).Deep Research caters to professionals in finance, science, policy, and engineering, providing thorough, reliable insights. Its also beneficial for shoppers seeking personalized recommendations on purchases that require careful research, like those for cars, appliances, and furniture. Outputs include clear citations and summaries, enabling easy verification. Essentially, the feature streamlines time-consuming research, delivering niche information efficiently from a single query. In a flurry of posts shared on X on Sunday, OpenAI chief Sam Altman described Deep Research as being like a superpower; experts on demand. He said it can go use the internet, do complex research and reasoning, and give you back a report, taking care of tasks that would take hours/days and cost hundreds of dollars. While its very compute-intensive and slow, he claimed that its the first AI system that can do such a wide variety of complex, valuable tasks.Deep Research takes between 5 and 30 minutes to complete its work, and youll receive a notification once the research is complete. The final output arrives as a report, delivered by ChatGPT. At the moment, reports are text-only, but OpenAI said that in the coming weeks itll be adding embedded images, data visualizations, and other analytic outputs for additional clarity and context.Deep Research is now available as part of OpenAIs Pro tier ($200 a month), with 100 queries available per month on the web (coming to mobile and desktop apps by the end of February). Itll also arrive for Plus, Team, and Enterprise customers soon, before eventually making its way to OpenAIs free tier.Altman urged people to give it a try on your hardest work task that can be solved just by using the internet and see what happens. But take note: OpenAI cautioned the its new tool may struggle with distinguishing authoritative information from rumors, and currently shows weakness in confidence calibration, often failing to convey uncertainty accurately. It added that, at launch, you might also see minor formatting errors in reports and citations, and tasks may take longer to kick off. We expect all these issues to quickly improve with more usage and time, OpenAI said.Deep Research arrives just a week after OpenAI unveiled another AI agent, called Operator, which acts like a human assistant, performing web-based tasks like making reservations, booking trips, and ordering groceries, in line with your requests.Editors Recommendations
