• February is a month of bright planets, NASA says in new skywatching update
    www.digitaltrends.com
The moon has many engagements with the planets in February, NASA said in its monthly update on what to look out for in the night sky.Throughout February, so long as clear nights prevail, youll be able to see the moon in the night sky along with many of our solar systems planets. The easiest to spot is Venus, looking brilliant in the west after sunset. February is a month for love, so what better time to spotlight Venus, which is associated with the Roman goddess of love? NASA said in its latest skywatching video (above). Please enable Javascript to view this contentYou can also spot a bright Jupiter in the evenings, as well as Mars, identifiable by its amber-orange color.Find the nearly full moon in the east tonight after dark, about three finger widths below reddish Mars, NASA said. Bright stars Pollux and Castor in Gemini are just to its north.Somewhat faint, but visible low in the west for the first hour after sunset, and increasingly lower as the month goes on, is Saturn. And be sure to look out for Mercury, too. By late February, Mercury will be visible about 20 minutes after sunset, positioned about 3 degrees up from the horizon. On February 24, the planet will be particularly easy to spot, appearing bright and close to Saturn, with Mercury shining about eight times brighter than Saturn.Venus, Jupiter, and Mars can be easily spotted with the naked eye, though a pair of binoculars or a telescope will of course give you an even better view.Binoculars or a telescope are recommended for Mercury and Saturn, though on a clear night, and away from light pollution, both of these planets will be visible to the naked eye, too.Want a really close-up look at Mercury? Then check out these stunning images captured during a recently flyby of the planet by the European Space Agencys BepiColombo spacecraft.Editors Recommendations

  • Chappell Roan used her 2025 Grammys acceptance speech to demand a livable wage for artists. Here's why it's famously difficult to make money as a musician.
    www.businessinsider.com
Chappell Roan won best new artist at the 2025 Grammy Awards on Sunday. She used her speech to call for record labels to "treat their artists as valuable employees."Here's why even Grammy-nominated musicians have trouble turning a profit in the music industry.Chappell Roan never shies away from making a statement. While accepting the award for best new artist at the 67th annual Grammy Awards, the "Good Luck, Babe!" singer highlighted the difficulties of building a stable let alone profitable career in the music industry."I told myself if I ever won a Grammy and I got to stand up here in front of the most powerful people in music, I would demand that labels and the industry profiting millions of dollars off of artists would offer a livable wage and healthcare, especially to developing artists," Roan said.Roan alluded to her first record contract with Atlantic, which signed her as a teenager, and the shock of getting dropped by the label a setback that forced her to leave Los Angeles and move back to her home state of Missouri, where she worked at a drive-thru to support herself."When I got dropped, I had zero job experience under my belt, and like most people, I had quite a difficult time finding a job in the pandemic," Roan said."Record labels need to treat their artists as valuable employees with a livable wage and health insurance and protection," Roan continued. "Labels, we got you, but do you got us?"The problems that preoccupied Roan's speech are more widespread in the industry than many fans may realize. As Business Insider previously reported, modern artists face a seemingly endless array of bureaucratic, strategic, and financial obstacles to making a living from the eye-popping upfront costs of touring or recording an album to the countless unpaid hours of social media self-promo and meager payouts from streaming giants like Spotify.Indeed, Roan's fellow best new artist nominee Raye told BI last June that she was still "breaking even."The 27-year-old British vocalist, who recently worked with Beyonc on "Cowboy Carter" and opened for Taylor Swift's multi-billion-dollar Eras Tour, explained that musicians are faced with unseen expenses at every turn. This is especially true for those who forgo the major-label system."You're getting paid X to do Coachella, and then you spend double the amount that you got paid to do the show on the show itself, because you want to do a great show," Raye offered as an example. "And you have to pay musicians, and the singers, and everyone what they deserve."Like Roan, Raye has a troubled history with record labels. She butted heads with executives at Polydor, who signed her at a young age, and publicly asked the label to release her from her contract in 2021. The company obliged, and Raye released her first album as an independent artist, "My 21st Century Blues," in 2023.Roan found a different way forward. After working to refine her craft and building an audience on TikTok during the pandemic, Roan signed a new contract with the label imprint founded by her producer, Daniel Nigro. Amusement Records distributed her debut album, 2023's "The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess."The album climbed to No. 2 on the Billboard 200 last year, second only to Taylor Swift's "The Tortured Poets Department," and received a Grammy nomination for album of the year. Roan's "Good Luck, Babe!" was also nominated for song of the year and best pop solo performance.

This is a renovation of a 130-year-old traditional house in the historical streetscape of a regional city. The client uses it as a store and art gallery. The site is located within Kiryu City's Important Preservation District for Groups of Traditional Buildings. Due to the ordinance for preserving the streetscape, the exterior of the building could not be altered and only the interior was renovated. The challenge was how to create a free and open exhibition space within the limited scope.Save this picture!Believing in the potential of old folk houses, we exposed the unique structure of the building to create a flexible space that can accommodate a variety of exhibitions. The interior, where the fittings have been removed, becomes a spacious exhibition space, and the strong timber structure of the roof gives a sense of the age characteristic of old folk houses.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! There was no need to make any changes to the already attractive space, and most of the plan was achieved by demolishing the warped ceiling and old tatami floor. After demolition, the floor will be a concrete dirt floor, and the inside and outside will be seamlessly connected from the approach of the alley. Additionally, "engawa," an inward-facing verandah, was added to the existing wooden floor to surround the earthen floor. The spacious interior space is like a small square in the city, or like a large gazebo where many people can gather.Save this picture!Save this picture! The exhibition space is entrusted to the artist, and a different space will appear for each project. Visitors can enjoy the combination of art works and space. Sitting on the Engawa, visitors can view the artworks while sipping tea provided in the gallery, and enjoy the combination of art and space. The gallery has realized the owner's desire to bring people and art closer together.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessAbout this officePublished on February 03, 2025Cite: "Gallery Katachi / Negishi Kenchiku Studio" 02 Feb 2025. • Best Final Arcs In Shonen Manga
    gamerant.com
Western comic heroes have fluid continuities that come and go and come back again depending on their companys whims. The Superman from 1938 is a different guy from the one in 1988, let alone 2025. But when a manga ends, it ends for good. It might make a comeback years later, like Kinnikuman, or the creator might let others make some side stories for it, but it's otherwise done and dusted.

  • 3 quick ways to free up iPhone storage space
    www.fastcompany.com
So you flew too close to the sundownloading app after app, recording hi-res video, binging podcastsand now youre faced with the dreaded Storage Almost Full pop-up on your iPhone. Its OK: we can handle this together. Here are three extremely expeditious tricks you can use to clear out the clutter and get back to a carefree life of digital hoarding.Detach from big message attachmentsEvery hilarious GIF. Every video of someones kid skiing. Every duck-faced selfie. Theyre all taking up space, and youll almost never need to revisit them.Free up a metric pant-load of storage in mere moments by heading to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Review Large Attachments (you may need to tap Show All to see it.All your space hoggers will be presented, from the largest to smallest. Hit the Edit button and eradicate with extreme prejudice.Ive found this to be the best way to clear up a ton of cruft quickly. Id say your mileage may vary, but it wont. Weve all been clinging to this stuff for way too long.Intelligently offload unused (or seldom used) appsFinally, a useful application of artificial intelligence.Yes, my family and I elf ourselves one day every December. No, the app doesnt need to be taking up space the rest of the year. For all the one-off, long forgotten, and rarely used apps, theres Apples offloading feature. It doesnt get rid of apps entirely it just gets rid of them until you need to use them again.Navigate to Settings > General > App Store > Enable Offload Unused Apps (way at the bottom) to mothball them. When you need them again, one tap brings them back, complete with all your settings.Send your photos to the cloudI realize the irony of suggesting you pay for cloud storage to house all the photos that are taking up too much space on your phone, but the fact of the matter is that at some point, youre eventually going to have so many photos they wont even fit on your phone anyway. For that, theres iCloud, and shelling out $3 a month for 200 GB of storage isnt outrageous. Now, that doesnt mean you should let a bunch of other digital junk take up too much iCloud space. If you think of it primarily as a photo backup tool and work to keep your other files pruned, pared, and organized, youll be able to optimize your storage.Speaking of optimization, head to Settings > Apps > Photos > Optimize iPhone Storage to enable the feature.Youll need to enable the iCloud Photos toggle if it isnt already, at which point the Optimize iPhone Storage Option will appear. This keeps a smaller copy of each photo on your phone itself, while housing its higher-resolution version in iCloud. If you take a lot of photos, this is a great way to keep their respective storage sizes in check.
