Researchers at the University of Oxford say they've achieved quantum teleportation stitching together separate quantum computers to run an algorithm collaboratively, across a distance, in a "breakthrough" they say could lead to powerful quantum supercomputers.The scientists linked two quantum processors that were six and a half feet apart using a "photonic network interface," as detailed in a paper published last week in the journal Nature.The team, led by Oxford University Physics graduate student Dougal Main, hopes the achievement will lay the groundwork for a "quantum internet" of distributed ultra-secure processors.It's not technically the first time scientists have demonstrated quantum teleportation. Previous research has shown that the states of quantum bits known as qubits the equivalent of a conventional computer's bits,except they can be superimposed and entangled can be transferred across physically separated systems."In our study, we use quantum teleportation tocreate interactions between these distant systems," said Main in a statement. "By carefully tailoring these interactions, we can perform logical quantum gates the fundamental operations of quantum computing between qubits housed in separate quantum computers.""This breakthrough enables us to effectively 'wire together' distinct quantum processors into a single, fully connected quantum computer," he explained, essentially the equivalent of linking traditional computers to create a supercomputer.Main and his team are hopeful that by using light to transmit data instead of electrical signals, they can overcome engineering obstacles involved in creating large quantum computers. In the end, no such reimbursements materialized and some of those investors have now filed suit against Firmage, alleging that he conned them out of tons of money.Not long after that exchange, Firmage was remanded to jail in Salt Lake County after being arrested for elder abuse amid allegations of financially and physically cutting off an 80-year-old woman he was living with and who had been his late father's romantic partner from her family and basic necessities like food and water.By the time Bloomberg got hold of him in October 2024, Firmage had been in that same county jailhouse for nearly a year, with courts saying that if he was released, he'd likely take up the abuse again.When the outlet spoke to him, the former web wizard seemed much worse for the wear even by his previously kooky standards. In addition to acting as an insulator and regulating the building's temperature, the water layer absorbs heat during the day and gradually releases it at night, lowering the demand for air conditioning and heating.The house had to have warm-toned materials, which was one of its needs. Strategic review at heritage practice follows workload slump in two regionsDonald Insall Associates is working on the restoration of Birminghams botanical gardens with HowellsDonald Insall Associates has closed its Cambridge office and downsized its team in Bath following a slump in workloads in the two regions.The heritage specialist has made five redundancies from its headcount of 140 as part of a strategic review of its project pipelines, which it said was prompted by political and economic uncertainty over the past year.Three out of eight staff working at its office in Bath have been made redundant, while two of the four-strong team in Cambridge have been cut, with the remaining two moved to the firms London team on a hybrid basis.The practice said: We have undertaken a strategic review of our project pipelines across the UK to rebalance our regional presence in line with current market demand.
