• Marvel Denies Using AI in The Fantastic Four: First Steps Posters
    cgshares.com
Marvel has released a trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps along with several promo posters. While the video didnt attract much unwanted attention, the images made many viewers squint suspiciously.Fans quickly dissected the pictures and accused Marvel of using AI, and you might as well when you see a man with 4 fingers holding a flag, copy-pasted faces, odd proportions, and missing limbs. Dont worry, the latter is not as gory as it sounds, you can see for yourself: it looks like a girl (or perhaps even two) in the background doesnt have a part of her right leg. This could be a sizable blow to Marvels reputation, but the studio has denied its involvement with AI.AI was not used in the creation of these posters, a Marvel/Disney spokesperson told IndieWire. So how can a 4-digit person appear in the poster? Perhaps well hear the famous we hired a contractor, and they apparently used AI, we didnt know excuse soon, but I think this is just a case of poor, lazy Photoshop. The poster maker probably took the images used in the posters from a stock site and didnt notice some AI-typical mistakes. As for the woman with her twin, someone likely decided to save some time in hopes nobody would notice. This is a recurring lesson for big companies: dont use generative AI and check your contractors: people are eagle-eyed and will definitely notice everything that is wrong.Understandably, some people didnt believe Marvels words, but others pointed out that it has admitted to using AI in Secret Invasion intro before, so maybe there is truth behind the statement.Marvel isnt the first to be accused of generative AI usage, of course. You have probably seen A24s Civil War images, or Wacoms dragons, or Wizards of the Coasts promo decisions. Let me tell you, there will be more.A24WacomThe Fantastic Four: First Steps will be released on July 24. • Nintendo Patent Application Seems To Confirm Switch 2 Joy-Con Feature
    www.gamespot.com
Earlier this year, Nintendo debuted a brief first look at the Switch 2 which didn't offer many details about the new console. However, there was a moment in the teaser video where the next generation of Joy-Cons appeared to move over a flat surface like a mouse. Now, a Japanese patent application filed in August 2023 appears to confirm that the Joy-Cons will have mouse capabilities. The application was publicly revealed on February 6, and it includes an early schematic for the new Joy-Con, which it describes as the "input device." The patent also states that it has "a sensor for mouse operation," which functions in a similar way that normal mice work with computers. Adding the mouse capabilities open up some intriguing possibilities for gameplay on Switch 2. Will shooter fans have the option to use the mouse instead of the conventional controller? This could potentially work very well with PC games that were designed to be played with mouse. It's also possible that Nintendo is working on some new titles that can take advantage of these mouse functions in ways we haven't thought of yet.Continue Reading at GameSpot

Vagabond is regarded as one of the best manga of all time. Vagabond Definitive Edition Vol. 1 (Hardcover) $43 (was $55) This new edition of Vagabond is presented in oversized hardcover format, which should make Inoue's beautiful and brutal visuals really shine. So far, 37 individual volumes of Vagabond--collected in 12 books--were published before Inoue took a break from the series to focus on his health and other projects. See at Amazon If you've never read it, Vagabond follows the tale of Shinmen Takezou through 16th-century Japan. Also known as the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, the manga is a fictionalized account of his life and is based on Eiji Yoshikawa's novel Musashi. A decades-spanning story, Vagabond focuses not only on the battles that made Musashi a legend but also on the more intimate moments of his life as he strives for enlightenment, through stunning art.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • How to get Essence of Desire in Destiny 2
    www.polygon.com
Essence of Desire is one of the major currencies in Destiny 2: Heresy, the third and final episode that wraps up the Light and Darkness saga. Along with other minor currencies, like Metastasized Essentia, youll use the Essence of Desire to get yourself some powerful new loot so you can take on The Taken King once again. In this Destiny 2 guide, well walk you through what Essence of Desire does, how you can find more, and where you can get Metastasized Essentia. What to use Essence of Desire for in Destiny 2Essence of Desire has two major functions in Heresy: fuel and keys.First up, Essence of Desire is the fuel for your Tome of Want in Destiny 2: Heresy. The Tome of Want will allow you to focus your loot drops. It can be focused to a category, like new Heresy weapons, or it can be focused more specifically, like on the episodic Watchful Eye machine gun. When you put the scriptures into the Tome of Want in order to select your desired loot piece, youll finish by putting Essence of Desire in at the end to activate it. If you dont have enough Essence of Desire and the cost differs based on the spell youre evoking you wont be able to activate your Tome of Want at all. Second, you can spend Essence of Desire on bonus chests found inside the Dreadnaught. These chests are thinner than the normal chests inside the ship, and are modeled after the Kings Fall raid chests, if youre familiar. When you encounter them, theyll ask you to offer two Essence of Desire in order to open them. Doing so will net you a guaranteed Heresy weapon, some Sigil Shards, and a more general currency, like Enhancement Cores. How to get Essence of Desire in Destiny 2Essence of Desire is a general drop in Heresy, and you can get it from a few different places, including finishing playlist activities with your Tome of Want active, and completing activities inside the Dreadnaught. However, those passive methods pale in comparison to something the game never teaches you about: the altar in Eris apartment.Just to the left, along the wall inside Eris apartment, youll see a strange rock pillar with a Taken orb floating in the middle of it. When you walk up to it, itll ask you to offer Metastasized Essentia if you have some or tell you that you dont have enough Metastasized Essentia, and that you require 10. If you offer up Metastasized Essentia to the pillar, itll consume the currency and youll get two reprised weapons from Season of Arrivals, some materials, and a whopping 10 Essence of Desire. The pillar sacrifice is by far the best and fastest method for getting Essence of Desire, but youll need to collect a lot of Metastasized Essentia to make it work more on that below.Where to find Metastasized Essentia in Destiny 2Metastasized Essentia is the location currency for the Dreadnaught, Oryxs massive flagship which has returned to the game as part of Heresy. Its where youll spend most of your time this episode, and complete runs of The Nether, the roguelite mode that takes place in the familiar location (and puts a focus on healing).Like any other planetary resource, youll want to go to your Ghost and put on the Wombo Detector mod, which will allow you to see any resources and chests within 50 meters of your character. Just jump into the Dreadnaught with the mod on, follow the grey diamonds, and youll get plenty of chests and resources. However, youll notice that when you first pick up these resources theyll be called Fleeting Metastasized Essentia, and are a slightly different color. If you leave the activity with any Fleeting Metastasized Essentia in your inventory, itll disappear and you wont be able to use it at the pillar. To remove the Fleeting from your Metastasized Essentia, you just need to complete the run of The Nether that youre doing. This is a mechanic to keep you from jumping into the Dreadnaught to grab two or three easily accessible Metastasized Essentia, backing out, heading back in, and doing that for hours on repeat. If you want your materials, youll have to finish out the run to get them.

  • Magic: The Gathering movie greenlit from Dune and Dark Knight studio Legendary
    www.polygon.com
Art from Magic: The Gathering's upcoming Aetherdrift setLegendary Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment announced in a joint news release on Thursday that they have reached a deal licensing Magic: The Gathering to Legendary for development into a live-action feature film and television universe, starting with an initial planned movie, then expanding to other media. Legendary is the studio behind IP-derived movies like Christopher Nolans The Dark Knight, Denis Villeneuves Dune and Dune: Part Two, and a recent run of Godzilla and King Kong movies, including Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. There were no initial details about what area of Magic the studio might want to explore, or who would be involved with the production. The initial news release just promised a multimedia universe that thrills longstanding fans and creates a broad wave of new ones. But looking at Legendarys other output Christopher Nolans Interstellar and Inception, the 2016 Warcraft movie, Zack Snyders Man of Steel and Watchmen, Pokmon: Detective Pikachu, and a lot more at least suggests the specific dark, somber tone and blockbuster scope that the company might bring to the material. The news release notes that Hasbro has also licensed Magic: The Gathering to Netflix for the previously reported (and recently revived) upcoming animated TV series, which suggests this new deal hasnt canceled or overwritten the old one. Presumably, Legendarys planned Magic universe wont intersect with Netflixs version at all.The deal is part of a current Hasbro push to get its properties into the entertainment world. As the news release notes, Hasbro Entertainment recently announced deals with Sonys TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television to re-imagineClueacross film and television, a deal with Margot Robbies LuckyChap and Lionsgate to produce a film based onMonopoly, and a deal with The CW to produce game shows based onTrivial PursuitandScrabble, which premiered this past fall.

  • This TCL QLED Is One of the Best Budget-Friendly TVs I've Ever Used
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page. Most people won't be able to tell the difference in visual quality between a QLED and OLED TV at a glance, but the difference in price is immediately obvious. The truth is, if you get a good QLED TV, most people will be happy with the picture quality and be happy to pocket the price difference. If you think that applies to you, I think this QLED from TCL is a about as good a choice as it gets. The TCL QM7 is a Quantum Dot Mini Light Emitting Diode (QD Mini-LED) QLED TV, meaning TCL combines QD and Mini-LED tech to improve picture quality with more realistic colors, better contrast, and higher brightness. The QM7 also supports most HDR formats that most people want and is a great TV for gamers. Perhaps the best part is how affordable this TV is for how good it is. TCL sent me a 65-inch QM7 for me to review. After testing it for a while, I can recommend this TV to anyone who wants a solid, budget QLED TV without the premium perks and prices of TVs like TCL's QM8 or OLEDs. The plastic build quality was poor and felt cheap and weak. However, as you will read on, this is mainly where TCL made cuts to give such a good value TV. I would much rather have TV companies make cuts on the build than on the specs, ports, formats, or picture quality. Once my TV was set up, none of the physical aspects of the TV mattered. Credit: Daniel Oropeza Design The ports on the QM7. Credit: Daniel Oropeza Thin bezels give this TV a very modern look. The ports on the QM7 are well thought out and will make gamers happy. You have four HDMI ports, two of which are HDMI 2.1, and one of those can handle 4K at 144Hz. Neither of these two is the eARC port, letting you hook up a soundbar without taking one of the good HDMI ports. Good job TCL. The "Ultra-Bass" subwoofer from Onkyo on the back of the TV. Credit: Daniel Oropeza The stand on the QM7 is in the center, with a 3.5-inch gap to place a soundbar. However, I felt the stand was too wobbly, so I opted to mount the TV using a standard VESA bracket for my bedroom. I personally recommend getting a soundbar if you value proper audio. The "Ultra-Bass" subwoofer from Onkyo on the back of the TV looks cool, but it was nothing more than a gimmick. I could not hear any difference in audio, much less in bass, compared to any other TV. Controller of the QM7. Credit: Daniel Oropeza I really like the controller, with an auto-sense backlight that came in pretty handy when I was looking for the controller in pitch darkness. Image Image looks great on a scene from 'Lost.' Credit: Daniel Oropeza The two main things that stood out from the image when I first watched the QM7 were the contrast and brightness. The contrast is powerful, with a native contrast of 8,264;1 and getting up to 66,900: 1, which is better than most non-OLED TVs. Deep blacks look very good, even when next to bright highlights. This is due to the high amount of local dimming zones (1,240 to be exact), which is impressive given the price of this TV. Credit: Daniel Oropeza This TV is also very bright, hitting up to 2,400 nits of peak brightness. This makes it a great TV for a bright living room or a bedroom with a lot of natural light, which is the case in my bedroom. The highlights in dark scenes really stand out in HDR content, and since it supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, I could not think of a better way to put this to the test than by re-watching the darkest episode I could think of, "The Long Night" from Game of Thrones (season 8, episode 3) on Max, which streams in 4K and with Dolby Vision. Dark scene from Game of Thrones where you can see detail in the caves. Credit: Daniel Oropeza I was blown away by how much detail I picked up with the QM7 that I missed the first time I watched the episode. With the QM7 I could see details in caves and fight scenes that I never saw before. Even during the darkest scenes, I could make out what was happening on the screen. There was barely any blooming on the scenes with fire or bright highlights against dark backgrounds (even the subtitles looked good). Credit: Daniel Oropeza The image isn't perfect though, since some black and shadow images do look over-bright (you can fix a lot of this in the settings with the right adjustments though). But overall, it does a great job in most cases, especially in HDR content.Since this is still a VA panel, it does lose some detail and color saturation at certain viewing angles, but it's not terrible. I could still enjoy the details, colors, and brightness sitting from the most extreme angles. Credit: Daniel Oropeza The reflection can be problematic, but mostly when I was watching dark scenes and I had my overhead fan light on and the windows open during the brightest time of the day. When I switched over to bright scenes with the same amount of bright light in my room, the glare was barely noticeable. Credit: Daniel Oropeza FeaturesTCL is one of the TV brands that isn't loyal to one specific HDR format, so you get to enjoy all of them (if that TV offers them). The QM7 offers HDR ULTRA with Dolby Vision IQ, HDR10+, HDR10, and HLG, covering most of the formats used in premium streaming app subscriptions these days. The HDR Ultra with Dolby Vision IQ adjusts the brightness of the light in your room, which can be a cool feature for those who are sensitive to brightness, but I personally don't enjoy it, so I turned it off.Google TVThe hands-free Google Assistant is responsive and works better than my aging Google Home. Because this is a Google TV, it is compatible with Google Cast, but it's always great to see it supports others like Apple AirPlay, Alexa, and Apple HomeKit. Credit: Daniel Oropeza The Google TV OS is snappy and easy on the eyes. It also comes with many free channels through TCL TV and live Google TV Freeplay. You won't find the latest shows or movies playing, mainly reruns or local live TV, but it's free.GamingThe Xbox Series X/S is the only console that does Dolby Vision (for now), so your results may vary, but my experience was one of the best ones I've had. Using the 4K and 120Hz refresh rate (you can do 144Hz if your computer supports it) in game mode picture setting was beautiful (remember you'll need an Ultra High-Speed HDMI to do this). The colors are radiant, the movements smooth, and the input lag isn't noticeable (6 milliseconds). My only qualm is with the sound delay. When playing games like Halo Infinite or Call of Duty: Black Ops, there is a noticeable delay when shots are fired and when the sound is heard. This can likely be fixed if you hook up a soundbar and adjust the audio delay settings, but I didn't see an option to adjust this with the TVs built-in speakers. Credit: Daniel Oropeza I enjoy having the "information" button on the remote, which shows me if I am actually gaming with the Game Master setting on, the resolution, refresh rate, UHD and FreeSync, and the HDR format (Dolby Vision in my case). You can see what it looks like in the image above.Bottom line Credit: Daniel Oropeza The QM7 is an incredible QLED TV with great value for the money. It is incredibly bright reaching highs of up to 2,400 nits, has a powerful contrast that makes colors pop while keeping deep darks, and very minimal blooming. The up to 1,240 local dimming zones make this TV one of the best value options for picture quality for non-OLEDs. Watching movies or shows is great with HDR support from the most used formats for streaming media. With four HDMI ports all of which can get 4k, and one of which can support VRR and up to 144Hz (separate from the eARC), gamers have plenty of ports to use multiple consoles or products at once. If you're willing to look past the cheap plastic build and wobbly stand (mount it and forget it) this is an incredible budget QLED for the money. You can find the 65-inch for under $700, making it a very competitive TV in the mid-tier TV market.
