• Nike made a surprise comeback at the Super Bowl — and JPMorgan analysts broke the news
    www.businessinsider.com
Nike aired its first ad in the Super Bowl in 27 years on Sunday. The brand's return to the big game comes as its new CEO looks to reverse a sales slump. It has shaken up its marketing division and wants to create cultural moments to elevate its brands.Nike made a surprise return as a Super Bowl advertiser for the first time in 27 years.JPMorgan analysts stole Nike's thunder by sharing the news in a research note published Thursday following a meeting with the brand's CEO and CFO.Nike did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The ad featured a who's who of women in sports, including track and field star Sha'Carri Richardson and WNBA player Caitlin Clark, over narration by Grammy-Award-winning rapper Doechii."You can't be demanding. You can't be relentless. You can't put yourself first," Doechii can be heard saying. "So put yourself first."Nike said in a statement that the company "has a starkly different perspective, offering a call to athletes across the globe: Do it anyway and redefine the expectations of sport along the way."The marketing push comes at a high-stakes moment for Nike, which has been struggling to reviveSuper Bowl advertisers have spent more than $8 million to secure 30 seconds of airtime.Nike has not yet revealed the commercial. While some advertisers release creative ahead of the game, there are always a few surprises.Nike's new CEO, Elliott Hill, detailed a turnaround plan in December. Hill rejoined Nike in October after a four-year hiatus. He was formerly the company's president of marketplace and consumer.Since taking the helm, Hill has called out Nike for certain missteps, such as offering too many discounts and shifting attention away from its relationships with wholesalers. The company is also trying to make iconic sneaker brands like Jordans and Air Force 1s hot again by pulling back on supply to boost demand.Nike's revenue slid 8% year over year to $12.4 billion during the three months ending November 30, the company said in December. Nike shares are down roughly 30% over the last 12 months.Nike has also shaken up its marketing department in recent months to elevate its brand storytelling, as Adweek previously reported. Several company veterans returned to or were elevated in the marketing organization over the last year, including former vice president Nicole Hubbard Graham who was named marketing chief.Nike seems to be banking on big cultural moments to get its brand back on track. The company debuted a new ad timed around this month's Grammy Awards that highlighted the legacy of its 40-year-old Jordan Brand.JPMorgan analysts met with Hill and Nike financial chief Matthew Friend at an event on Thursday morning. In a research note recapping the meet and greet, the analysts said Nike execs cited "excitement" around Hubbard's return and the brand's representation at "large consumer moments," including the Jordan campaign and a planned Super Bowl ad.Hill told investors in December that Nike had to "get back to putting sport at the center of everything that we do." He said the company would invest in "big, bold brand marketing efforts" and important sports moments.

He closed with "Not Like Us" and "TV Off."Kendrick Lamar took the field at Super Bowl LIX on Sunday to cap a watershed year in his career, which has yielded three No. 1 songs, a No. 1 album, five Grammy Awards, and a decisive victory in his rap beef with Drake.Lamar was joined onstage by SZA, his longtime collaborator and Top Dawg labelmate, as well as his "Not Like Us" producer, DJ Mustard. The performance was narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, who satirically teased Lamar for being "too loud, too reckless, too ghetto" while dressed as Uncle Sam.Jackson's role underscored the performance's red, white, and blue motifs and American flag iconography, suggesting a deeper commentary on what constitutes "American" music, especially when it's made by Black artists.Below is every song in Lamar's halftime show setlist, listed in chronological order. "Squabble Up""Squabble Up" was released in 2024. Kendrick Lamar/YouTube Lamar opened his performance with a teaser from an unreleased song, which fans have tentatively dubbed "Bodies," before transitioning into "Squabble Up.""Squabble Up" was released as the second track on Lamar's latest album, "GNX," and promoted as the lead single. It debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making Lamar the first solo male artist to have three instant chart-toppers in a single year."Humble"Kendrick Lamar in "Humble." The song was nominated for best original song at the 2019 Oscars."Not Like Us"Kendrick Lamar in "Not Like Us." Kendrick Lamar/YouTube Lamar's "Not Like Us" was the centerpiece of his beef with Drake. It topped the Hot 100 for two weeks and won five Grammys, including song and record of the year.During Lamar's performance of the song, he omitted the word "pedophile" but kept other lyrics that directly reference their beef, including "Say, Drake, I hear you like 'em young / You better not ever go to cell block one," and "Tryna strike a chord and it's probably A minor.""TV Off"Mustard joined Kendrick Lamar for his performance of "TV Off" at the 2025 Super Bowl. • Games Inbox: What does the PSN outage say about modern gaming?
    metro.co.uk
Its happened again (Sony)The Monday letters page is frustrated at Rocksteadys wasted decade after Batman: Arkham Knight, as one reader is confused by Xboxs next gen plans. To join in with the discussions yourself email gamecentral@metro.co.ukIt happened againSo PSN was down for most people over the weekend and what a disaster that was. Not only did multiplayer not work which Im sure most people can live without for a while but lots of single-player games didnt work and I hear even disc drives didnt work, because for some reason they have to check online too. And you wonder why people say that an all-digital future is bad?Just imagine if there was only streaming and this happened, 100% of every game would instantly stop working. I know why companies want it like this, because it gives them control but this goes way beyond trying to stop piracy. They dont want you to use the game youve paid for in any way but the way they want, and theyll stop you from playing it for any reason they make up.This isnt the first time PSN has gone down and it surely wont be the last. Maybe it needs to go down when GTA 6 comes out, which seems like a possibility considering how many people will be using it at once then, but even if it did I doubt the outrage will force Sony to reconsider.SkeeveWasted timeSo with the news that Rocksteady is going back to work on a single-player Batman game we find that basically theyve wasted a whole decade, since Arkham Knight, on absolutely nothing. Its great to hear theyre coming back to the series but Im sure half the people that used to work at the company have left by now, I seem to remember the founders went years ago.If theyre starting now what is the new Batman game going to be on? Itll be lucky to make the PlayStation 6 at this rate, same for the Wonder Woman game. A lot of execs in the games industry dont seem to be worth their pay check but whoevers in charge of Warner Bros. games must be the absolute worst. Constant stories about cancelled games and almost nothing released despite having some really talented studios. Its been eight years since Middle-Earth: Shadow Of War too, and theyre not going to have anything out for at least five years either. Crazy.DansonLogical conflictFunny to see the sales of Xbox Series X/S finally revealed, thanks to Take-Two. Maybe Microsoft will be so angry with them theyll buy them too? Selling less than half the PlayStation 5 really does show you why Xbox has had to go multiformat, but Im still confused about why they have a next gen machine coming out.Surely only an even smaller number people of people are going to buy that, unless it does something really amazing. Theyve said it will be the biggest leap ever but if it is, and its something the PlayStation 6 cant match, does that mean theyll go back to having exclusives? But if theyre staying multiformat how are they going to be releasing the same games on both consoles if the Xbox next gen machine is so much better? Nothing they say ever makes sense.FocusEmail your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.ukPhysical excitementI see Legacy Of Kain Soul Reaver 1&2 Remastered standard edition isnt exclusive to Limited Run Games and you can pre-order it for 29.99 from Amazon UK, delivered for June 13th 2025.Its available to pre-order on PlayStation 5 and Switch physically, currently. So just ordered a copy, which works out a lot cheaper than getting it from Limited Run Games in the USA, with taxes and postage. Pleased about getting it, as I thought I had missed the boat!Ive never played it before and I am a fan of Amy Hennig, who was involved in making it and also making Uncharted 1 to 3, which I am a fan of. Shout out to YouTuber Physical Paradise for making me aware of the release of the game.Andrew J.Wild HeroesI enjoyed Steel Assault and Retroware are following that up with Neon Inferno, which looks a little like Gunstar Heroes with a splash of Wild Guns. A demo should be available now on Steam, I dont have a PC so can someone play it and let me know how excited I should be please? The publisher is looking at doing a physical release, Limited Run did a physical edition of Steel Assault for Switch, so fingers crossed Neon Inferno lives up to this trailer. Then I and the Andrew Js of this world might have another retro banger to clog up our shelves.Beastiebat (PSN ID)Currently playing Doom Eternal and thoroughly enjoying it.GC: We dont know how it plays, but it looks gorgeous. No alternativeRE: Jeffos comments. As you say, Back in the day you had to wait years between the games. That was true. For large scale games like these you have to wait even longer between games now. It has only gotten longer, not shorter. Its only when the developers have been actually rushed to finish developing it early, Like Mass Effect 3, which wasnt as good as it could have been. Most fans acknowledge theyre not perfect. I think the reason they are so beloved, despite their faults, is because there arent many other games made like them, so for those that love them they keep going back for a dose of sci-fi epic storylines.TimEmotional endingResponse to comment from reader on Mass Effect:The Mass Effect trilogy was and still is the best video game series of all time. The story is engaging, the characters have dimension, your decisions have impact on each game you play as you move the story along, and the game can be enjoyed by a wide range of players whether youre just in it for the role-playing or enjoy the challenge of a shooter game. One thing people always seem to forget is that the freedom of choice doesnt end once you are completing the trilogy. Just like real life, your choices you make will have impact on those around you, but at the end of the day you can still change your mind and go a different direction when you want. The fact you even have so many choices throughout the game is what makes it so incredible. And the Citadel DLC is an emotional rollercoaster that is the best part of the entire series. If you dont at least feel a little emotional while completing it you must have a heart of stone.J, MarlowMinor featureRE: the mouse functionality on the Switch 2, my gut feeling is that itll be a feature talked about a lot but in reality not fully utilised, a bit like HD Rumble.I know they have data on how much people use their Switches (docked, handheld or tabletop) and if many, like me, primarily use it mostly in handheld then its not gonna get a load of use. Plus, if Nintendo intend to release a Switch 2 Lite mid-generation then obviously thatll further restrict the use case for it.TheTruthSoul (PSN ID)Quiet timeI love the immersive moments in modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, in regards to normal life and not just for only combat. Having everyday conversations with characters about life and personal situations are always a nice rest between missions and intense combat situations. This will continue no doubt with Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 and GTA 6.The hours playing these games are definitely ever increasing and 100 hours to 200 hours will possibly be just an average for new games. This can be good if done well like The Witcher 3, and especially Cyberpunk 2077, as combat and action are never far away but balance the calm reflective moments with your characters interactions. What I would not want these newer games to be is like Assassins Creed Valhalla, which just went on and on and on! The game just would not end and despite it being a good game, it was just rather bloated and Im hoping Assassins Creeds next game is structured in a way that an ending can be attained before a feeling of fatigue sets in.With GTA 6 on the horizon and so many years in the making, I can only imagine a script the size of 10 Hollywood movies or more, as the size and scope of the game is revealed. The main story will no doubt be epic and hopefully will give the freedom for gamers to just do this and ignore the other stuff.Cyberpunks different, as experience points for the role-playing part of it are required to advance your character. Doing the fun side missions and tasks are definitely required to build excitement in your characters adventure.I am sure the balance will be good in GTA 6 and I feel my mind will be blown by the map size and all the detail contained in this most anticipated game of all time! So, if I feel the same immersion as I do in Cyberpunk 2077 then GTA 6 and, hopefully, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, will be legendary in the gaming world and long remembered in its history.AlucardInbox also-ransEvery fan knew Football Manager 25 was never coming out, there was just no way it was going to work. I wouldnt bet on any game at all this year, either, unless its just a small update of Football Manager 2024.KelinerI couldnt care less about Metal Gear Solid but if this new remake leads to a new Ape Escape game being made I will be all for it.NitebeastMore TrendingEmail your comments to: gamecentral@metro.co.ukThe small printNew Inbox updates appear every weekday morning, with special Hot Topic Inboxes at the weekend. • Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning Continues to Look Bonkers
    gizmodo.com
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to realize the eighth Mission: Impossible movie is finally hitting theaters this year. We know. Its hard to believe after so many starts, stops, delays, and more. But, on May 23, Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning is coming to theaters, and if we go by this new look at the film, it may be the biggest yet. Which is saying something when it comes to Mission: Impossible, right? Going back almost three decades to the 1996 original, the Mission movies always include stunts and action that seem to be exponentially bigger than the last. The difference this time, though, is that The Final Reckoning is really just the second half of the story from 2023s Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning. Plus, it may just be the final time Tom Cruise plays Ethan Hunt in this franchise. Well have to wait and see. For now though, three months after its first trailer, here is a brand new look at The Final Reckoning. Unfortunately, thats all Paramount is willing to give us at the moment. Apparently a new trailer is coming closer to release. For now though, well just have to speculate about what happens when Ethan and his team try and find the crashed submarine that holds the only way to stop a deadly piece of artificial intelligence.Once again directed by Christopher McQuarrie, Mission: Impossible The Final Reckoning stars (deep breath) Tom Cruise, Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Esai Morales, Pom Klementieff, Mariela Garriga, Henry Czerny, Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, Hannah Waddingham, Angela Bassett, Shea Whigham, Greg Tarzan Davis, Charles Parnell, and Frederick Schmidt. It opens May 23. Want more io9 news? Check out when to expect the latest Marvel, Star Wars, and Star Trek releases, whats next for the DC Universe on film and TV, and everything you need to know about the future of Doctor Who.

As the first Spotlight Cache release of the Brave New World season in Marvel SNAP, Joaquin Torres Falcon introduces a unique Ongoing ability that duplicates the effects of one-Cost On Reveal cards. This has drawn comparisons to Wong, with some calling him the bounce archetypes equivalent. But does he truly live up to that reputation?

  • Historical Games Where You Can Play As A Female
    gamerant.com
Sometimes, there is nothing better than plunging into a science fiction future dystopia of a game, but there is truly nothing better than traveling back in time and enjoying some authentic historical gameplay. Up until relatively recently, it was usually only possible to play the lead protagonist as a male. Now, thankfully, the tide has turned.

Apologies if this is not correct channel to post. I don't know what would be the best way to ask this question, but I am working on a game engine and I have various node objects which can be added to a scene and for my editor which uses imgui I want to display these various nodes in a popup context window so that when you right click a list of nodes would appear. I'm curious if there is anyway for my code to be able to be aware or detect these classes and populate this list rather than me hav

  • Pokmon Go Karrablast and Shelmet Community Day guide
    www.polygon.com
Pokmon Go is having a Karrablast and Shelmet Community Day event on Sunday, Feb. 9, from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.As expected with a Community Day event in Pokmon Go, Karrablast and Shelmet will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which weve listed out below. How do I catch a shiny Karrablast or Shelmet in Pokmon Go?As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokmon. If youre short on time or Pok Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each one to check for shiny ones, running from any that arent shiny. Notably, any Karrablast or Shelmet youve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked. What Community Day moves do Karrablast and Shelmets evolutions learn? If you evolve Karrablast into Escavalier, itll learn the charged move Razor Shell. When evolving Shelmet into Accelgor, itll learn the charged move Energy Ball. Both of these moves will be available from evolution from Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. until Feb. 16 at 10 p.m.If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get the moves. If you dont want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move. How does Escavalier and Accelgor do in the meta? For PvE content (raids and gyms), Escavalier is actually a pretty decent bug-type attacker. Of course it gets outclassed by Megas and some other picks, but it does hold its own weight if you give it Bug Bite and Megahorn. That said, bug-types arent used very often in raids (as its good against grass-, psychic-, and dark-type Pokmon all which have powerful and more viable counters), so invest sparingly if youre looking to save on Stardust. For PvP content, expert and Silph Road user JRE47 notes via Reddit post that neither will shine, but it may be worth picking up one PvP-eligible Escavalier with its special move (Razor Shell) just in case future buffs smile favorably at it.How do I make the most of Karrablast and Shelmet Community Day?The following bonuses will be active during the Karrablast and Shelmet Community Day:Tripled XP for catching PokmonDoubled candy for catching PokmonDoubled chance for level 31+ trainers to get XL candy from catching PokmonIncense lasts three hoursLure Modules lasts three hoursKarrablast and Shelmet special photobombs when taking snapshotsOne additional special tradeStardust cost halved for tradingThat said, you should definitely pop a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to nab some powerful Karrablast and Shelmet. You should also note that you can bypass the 200 candy cost for both of these Pokmons evolutions if you trade them first. Of course, doing this will shuffle their IVs around, so make sure to either only trade ones with bad IVs already or to a Lucky friend. (Or if you dont care about that at all and just want to complete your Pokdex, do whatever you want!)If you can Mega Evolve Beedrill, Pinsir, Scizor, or Heracross, youll score additional Karrablast or Shelmet Candy per catch. You can also use Primal Reversion on Kyogre to get more candy. (Because Primal Kyogre boosts bug-type candy, for some reason.) There willalsobe Community Day Continued Timed Research until Feb. 16 that will reward more Karrablast and Shelmet, including ones with special themed backgrounds.

  • The 5 best commercials from Super Bowl 2025
    www.fastcompany.com
The Super Bowl is a magical time and place for brands. A rare and brief three-or-so hour moment when people want to see commercials. Every marketers Xanadu. What defines a great Super Bowl ad is obviously subjective, no matter what the Ad Meters, and any number of other measurement tech tells you. Hell, even your own brain might be lying to you. The real scorecard is unique to each brand and what it considers the worth of up to $40 million or more in investment around the game.My criteria for a good Super Bowl ad remains relatively simple: Is it fun or emotional in a way that is both entertaining and memorable? An easy question to ask, but as each year proves, much more difficult to answer. Before I get into my top 5 list, here are the honorable mentions. The coffee wars come to the Super Bowl! Im a fan of Dunkins work with Ben Affleck, created by Artists Equity Advertising (the ad arm of Affleck and Matt Damon-founded Artists Equity). This years spot was a funny take on the coffee wars, using a part-Warriors, part-Anchorman dynamic to continue the adventures of the DunKings.I also really liked Starbucks Hello Again, by Anomaly, which aimed to remind us why we liked the brand in the first place. However, the spot could be used as a case study in how crucial the right song can be, because this ad wouldnt hit nearly as hard without AC/DCs classic Thunderstruck. After 27 years, its about time we saw another Nike commercial in the Super Bowl. Hare Jordan is arguably a Top 10 all-time Super Bowl commercial, so getting the swoosh back feels right. Now in So Win, the brand used Led Zeppelin and a murderers row of female superstars to stylishly continue its swing back to the ultra-competitive attitude Nike was built on.My admiration for what FanDuel has created with Kick of Destiny is well-documented, and continues this year. While the main event isnt technically an in-game adthis year cleverly embedding itself within the Fox pregame showit remains one of the best-ever Super Bowl brand ideas.Speaking of all-time big game brand ideas, another shout-out to Doritos for bringing back Crash The Super Bowl after an eight-year hiatus. The spots were fun, funny, and the contest remains a benchmark in fan participation. And lastly, a shout-out to the brands that decided to go full emosh and actually pulled it off with impressive results. The NFLs Somebody, Lays Little Farmer, and Googles Dream Job all struck a nice balance for the brands and the moment.OK, now on to my top 5 ads of the 2025 Super Bowl.Stella Artois David & Dave: The Other DavidIts a premise that could be explained in one line: David Beckham finds out he has a secret American twin named Dave. This is Artists Equity Advertisings first Super Bowl spot for a brand thats not Dunkin, and here we have the companys other co-founder Damon in a starring role.I spoke to execs at the agency for a story coming out later this week, and they told me the brief from the brand was to shift Stellas image in the U.S. as an upscale beer to more of a quality everyday beer. Enter Dave Beckham. Weve seen David pitch for the brand plenty of times, in ads, on Hot Ones, and beyond, but here we get to see a funnier side of the soccer legend.Mountain Dew Kiss From A LimeMountain Dew has long-been one of the more experimental Super Bowl advertisers. In 2021, it enlisted John Cena to challenge viewers with a contest to be the first person to tweet the correct number of Mountain Dew Major Melon bottles that appeared in the ad for a chance to win $1 million. In 2018, it partnered with sibling brand Doritos for a surreal rap battle between Peter Dinklange and Morgan Freeman. And of course, 2016 gifted us the classic Puppymonkeybaby. This year the brand went all in on the big game version of unhinged. Seal as a seal? Directed by Taika Waititi, not only is this absurdity bullseye consistent with the sodas identity when it comes to the Super Bowl, it delivers an on-brand ear-worm care of a 1994 love ballad. Whats not to like? (Its still in your head, isnt it?)Uber Eats A Century of CravingsUber Eats made a relatively late decision in September to completely change its Super Bowl plansa planning process that typically starts in July. A spot starring Matthew McConaughey, in which he floated a conspiracy theory that the function of all sports is to act as a catalyst for us to eat more food, got a great response. Could they continue that in the big game? Short answer: yep. Here it goes deeper. Not deep like finger-rolling a booger in your Lincoln deep; just different deep. A decade on, The McConaissance is still deep in its commercial era, and here the Oscar winner keeps the streak alive by giving us a history lesson of his earlier conspiracy. Its a fun instalment of an overall celebrity-soaked ad strategy that manages to stand out, even as Pringles put up a strong challenge to its multi-celeb approach.I think people now have a clearer understanding of our brand and tone because were consistently showing up with a very specific type of spot that is landing a specific type of humor, Ubers head of marketing for North America Georgie Jeffreys, told me last week. Even if the message changes, the core tenets of our brand are the same.Bud Light Big Men on Cul-De-SacJust like at a bar, it was a close call between this and Bud Lights blood rival Coors Light. Both ads are really funny and pretty much exactly what a light beer ad in the Super Bowl should aim for. What puts Bud Light over the line here is how it not only meets the above criteria, but does so with solid brand consistency. A great big game ad that doesnt feel like a one-off is often a rare species. This isnt the first time weve seen Post hit the field for Bud Light, and the work Gillis has done over the past year has completely reinvigorated the brands personality.Todd Allen, Bud Lights senior vice president of marketing told me that it was a no-brainer for the brand to keep the momentum going and continue to lean into Gillis brand of humor. Theres absolutely no bigger stage to deliver a laugh than the Super Bowl, and when you combine a comedic powerhouse like Shane with Bud Light, I think we have a winning formula, said Allen.Liquid Death Safe For WorkI mentioned the importance of the right song earlier with Starbucks, and here it applies just as much, but in a totally different way. Instead of relying on a classic song or new hit banger to tap into the audiences existing affinity, Liquid Death crafted its own hilarious, pseudo-country jam about drinking on the job.The cops are drinking, the surgeons are drinking, the pilots are drinking, the court judges, the football refs, even the school bus drivers are all drinking on the job.Liquid Death is no stranger to celebrities. Its worked with Martha Stewart, Bert Kreischer, Tony Hawk, and more. But here, the brand shrewdly avoided any big names knowing full well its exactly the opposite of what the majority of Super Bowl advertisers would do. The sharp contrast between the parade of celebrity pitchfolks and this lack of Hollywood star power, makes the ad stand out for all the right reasons.
