Framework will reveal new gadgets on February 25th can you decipher its glyphs?www.theverge.comNearly two years ago, Framework announced one of the most ambitious laptops ever live on a San Francisco stage, plus an AMD upgrade for its modular Intel machines. On February 25th, its promising an even bigger set of announcements, and that itll show everything that weve been working on for the last two years. What could that mean? Well, the modular repairable gadget company did raise $18 million last April to expand beyond the laptop, but its not at all clear thats what well see, and a spokesperson wouldnt comment when I asked. Instead, the companys choosing to tease us with some pictograms! Look:So were getting a beach ball downward facing dog, something Flash-y, and something worthy of a gamepad-only LAN party that serves knockoff Cheetos, yes?(In all seriousness, my moneys on that first one being a convertible Chromebook with a backflipping 360-degree hinge after all, Lenovos Yoga laptops famously cemented the convertible category.)What are your guesses?Three more things that caught my eye:We will be opening pre-orders on at least one new item that day, so if youre in the market for repairable, upgradeable, long-lasting consumer electronics products, you may want to create an account ahead of time to be ready.[W]ere ready to bring this mission and product philosophy to even more of the world, one category at a time.Framework fans willing to travel in the SF Bay Area can apply to attend in person.Heres the event page, with a live countdown and notify me button. Lastly, heres the pre-prepped livestream which should go live at 10:30am PT / 1:30pm ET. Oh, and Ill be there in person.0 Commentaires ·0 Parts ·7 Vue

Shopify pulls Kanyes website offline over swastika merchwww.theverge.comOn Tuesday, Shopify shut down the Yeezy store run by Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) after it listed shirts with swastikas for sale. Ye advertised the site in a commercial shown during the Super Bowl on Sunday. It previously sold things like sneakers and t-shirts, but on Monday, the only item for sale was a $20 swastika shirt with the product name HH-01, which the ADL says is code for Heil Hitler. Ye had started posting antisemitic rhetoric on X, where hed been banned in 2022 for posting swastikas. Leading up to the Super Bowl ad, though, his account has been deactivated.Shopify tells Bloomberg and NBC News that it wasnt removed simply for listing the item, saying in a statement that This merchant did not engage in authentic commerce practices and violated our terms so we removed them from Shopify. Last year, the e-commerce platform removed a clause banning hateful content from its acceptable use rules, Bloomberg reports.0 Commentaires ·0 Parts ·8 Vue

NuminaMath 1.5: Second Iteration of NuminaMath Advancing AI-Powered Mathematical Problem Solving with Enhanced Competition-Level Datasets, Verified Metadata, and Improved Reasoning Capabilitieswww.marktechpost.comMathematical reasoning remains one of the most complex challenges in AI. While AI has advanced in NLP and pattern recognition, its ability to solve complex mathematical problems with human-like logic and reasoning still lags. Many AI models struggle with structured problem-solving, symbolic reasoning, and understanding the deep relationships between mathematical concepts. Addressing this gap requires high-quality, structured datasets that allow AI to learn from expert mathematical reasoning and improve problem-solving accuracy.Recognizing the above needs, Project-Numina has launched NuminaMath 1.5, the second version of its advanced AI training dataset, NuminaMath, tailored specifically for mathematical reasoning. NuminaMath 1.5 builds upon its predecessors by offering a curated collection of approximately 900,000 competition-level mathematical problems. These problems are structured using a Chain of Thought (CoT) methodology, ensuring that AI models follow a logical step-by-step reasoning process to arrive at solutions. The dataset sources problems from Chinese high school mathematics, U.S. mathematics competitions, and international Olympiads, providing a broad spectrum of difficulty levels to train AI systems effectively. The major innovation in NuminaMath 1.5 is its enriched problem metadata, which includes:Final answers for word problems.Mathematical domains include algebra, geometry, number theory, and calculus.Problem types are categorized into multiple-choice questions (MCQs), proof-based problems, and word problems. These enhancements make NuminaMath 1.5 a more structured and verifiable resource for AI training. They allow for better generalization and reasoning when tackling unseen mathematical challenges.Project-Numina has adopted a manual validation approach for problems sourced from Olympiad datasets to ensure the datasets accuracy and reliability. The previous version of NuminaMath encountered parsing issues due to automated extraction techniques, which sometimes misinterpreted problem structures. In response, NuminaMath 1.5 now utilizes official sources from national Olympiad websites, ensuring that each problem and solution is accurately transcribed and formatted. The latest dataset includes manually curated problems in critical mathematical fields such as:Chinese mathematics contests (cn_contest)Inequalities and number theory, verified by expert mathematiciansThis focus on curated and verified data ensures that AI models learn from authentic, high-quality sources.Another major improvement in NuminaMath 1.5 is the removal of synthetic datasets, such as synthetic_amc. While previous iterations included synthetic problems to expand dataset diversity, ablation studies found that synthetic data marginally hindered AI performance by introducing inconsistencies in problem structure. As a result, NuminaMath 1.5 eliminates synthetic problems, ensuring that AI models engage only with real-world, competition-level mathematics rather than artificially generated content.NuminaMath 1.5 provides problems from multiple sources, ensuring diverse mathematical challenges. The dataset includes:Olympiad Problems: Verified problems from national and international mathematics Olympiads.AOPS Forum Data: Sourced from math discussion forums, featuring a mix of general and competition-style problems.AMC and AIME Problems: Questions from the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) and the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME).Chinese K-12 Mathematics: A large subset of problems from Chinese high school curricula, providing a strong foundation in algebra and geometry. In conclusion, NuminaMath 1.5 delivers 896,215 verified competition-level math problems from Olympiads, national contests, and academic forums. Structured metadata, including problem type, question format, and verified solutions, ensures precise categorization and analysis. The dataset removes synthetic problems, focusing on manually curated, high-quality data. It is a vital resource for research and AI training, covering 268,000+ K-12 problems, 73,000 from forums, and elite competition sets.Check outtheDataset. All credit for this research goes to the researchers of this project. When Scripts Arent Enough: Building Sustainable Enterprise Data Qualitytowardsai.netWhen Scripts Arent Enough: Building Sustainable Enterprise Data Quality 0 like February 11, 2025Share this postAuthor(s): Richie Bachala Originally published on Towards AI. Beyond Scale: Data Quality for AI InfrastructureThe trajectory of AI over the past decade has been driven largely by the scale of data available for training and the ability to process it with increasingly powerful compute & experimental models. From speech recognition breakthroughs to large-scale language models, the story of AI is fundamentally a story of data. The Scaling Hypothesis: Bigger Data, Better AI?Ill say it again the story of artificial intelligence over the past decade is fundamentally a story about data. What began as a series of experiments in speech recognition has evolved into an understanding of how AI systems learn and grow. The key insight? Scale matters, but quality matters more.Early AI researchers discovered something remarkable: when you feed neural networks more data, they continue to improve. This wasnt just true for speech recognition it held across language processing, computer vision, and even mathematical reasoning. This observation led to what we now call the Scaling Hypothesis.Think of it as a perfectly balanced chemical reaction. Three critical ingredients must scale together:Larger neural networksMore training dataIncreased computing powerIf any one ingredient falls short while the others grow, progress stalls. But when scaled in harmony, AI capabilities expand exponentially.Analogous to a chemical reaction where all reagents must scale proportionallyScaling laws observed across multiple domains (language, images, video, math)Source: Kaplan et al. (2020) Scaling Laws for Neural Language Modelshttps://arxiv.org/pdf/2001.08361First formal study documenting empirical scaling lawsPublished by OpenAIThe Data Quality ConundrumNot all data is created equal. The internet may offer trillions of words, but much of it is:Repetitive contentSEO-optimized fluffAI-generated textLow-value informationThis has led to concerns about whether AI will eventually run out of useful training data. Question I hear being asked often in many podcasts to various product leads in AI.Data Quality FirstSource: RedditIn my opinion Prioritize data quality before AI model selectionEnsure data readiness for intended use casesValidate data compatibility with chosen AI solutionsCheck this fun Thread to follow on reddit to see why it covers & cuts across many industries Banks, AdTech, Mfg, BigTech, Data sellers etc.Role of High-Quality DataOne potential solution I have everyone sharing is synthetic data generation. Models can be trained to generate high-quality data from scratch, effectively creating new learning materials that reflect the underlying distribution of real-world knowledge. This approach has been successful in domains like chess where AI agents learn by playing against themselves, achieving training without human-generated data or usage/observability/player log data.Another promising approach is reinforcement learning and reasoning models, which allow AI to improve by reflecting on its own thought processes. This method not only expands the available training data but also enhances model efficiency and problem-solving abilities.Ive been a Data Engineering guy for the last decade, so my solution for bad data is immediately a technical solution like below more cleaning scripts, better validation rules, improved monitoring dashboards. The Technical ReflexPicture this common scenario: Bad data appears in a report. Our immediate response?Write a cleaning scriptAdd validation rulesCreate monitoring alertsBuild data quality dashboardsLike these:The processDQ dimensions that Ive been prioritizing DQ Dimensions: 9 that are important for my EnterpriseDQ Standard Dashboard for sharing updates to show progress. by Author for Illustrative purpose. The Enterprise Reality CheckHeres the truth that Ive learn the hard way: The best technical solution cant fix a process problem.Consider these common scenarios:A perfect validation script cant fix inconsistent data entry practicesThe most robust ETL pipeline cant resolve disagreements about business rulesReal-time quality monitoring cant replace clear data ownership.Path to Maturity in data engineering often looks like this:Junior: Ill fix it with codeMid-level: Ill build a system to prevent itSenior: Lets understand why this happensLead: We need to change how we workImage by AuthorThe best technical solution cant fix a broken process. Why Technical Band-Aids FailThese solutions work until they dont. And heres why:They treat symptoms, not causesClean data today, same issues tomorrowGrowing maze of scripts and rulesThey miss the human elementData entry remains error-proneBusiness processes stay brokenCommunication gaps persistNo ownership of qualityThe Limits of Data: Are We Nearing a Ceiling?A pressing question in AI development is whether we will hit a ceiling due to data limitations. Some argue that while scaling has driven progress so far, we may eventually exhaust high-quality training data, leading to diminishing returns. Others believe that innovations in reasoning models, reinforcement learning, and self-supervised learning will continue pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities.Another challenge is data integration and consistency. Large AI models require data that is well-structured, diverse, and representative of real-world complexity. Many enterprises including ours struggle with fragmented data sources, inconsistencies, and lack of proper governance, which hinder AI implementation let alone performance.Additionally, the computing costs associated with handling vast amounts of data remain a significant factor. AI model training requires extensive computational resources, with companies investing billions in AI clusters. Managing these costs efficiently is crucial to sustaining AI advancements.Contextual Data IntegrationCombine different data sources meaningfullyFocus on creating value through data relationshipsMaintain privacy while leveraging data connectionsAdditionally, concerns about bias in AI models stem from biased training data. If historical data contains systemic biases, AI models will learn and reinforce these biases unless explicitly corrected. Techniques such as bias mitigation, fairness auditing, and explainability methods are essential to ensure that AI systems remain equitable and trustworthy.Another growing concern is AI-generated data pollution as AI models generate more content, the internet is becoming saturated with synthetic text. Ensuring that future models are trained on high-quality, human-authored content rather than AI-generated noise is a challenge that must be addressed.Looking AheadIn my opinion, if the current trends continues, AI models will soon reach and exceed human-level performance in many professional domains. However, the next phase of AI development will depend not just on increasing model size but on innovative ways to utilize and refine data. Whether through synthetic data, better data curation, or novel foundational architectures with embedded flexible processes, the relationship between data and AI will remain at the heart of progress.Path ForwardKey Lessons1. Start with Process, Not CodeTechnical solutions should enable good processes, not compensate for bad ones. Before opening your IDE, ask:Who owns this data? Why is quality breaking down?Where does the problem really start? What business processes are involved?2. Build Bridges, Not Just SolutionsSustainable quality requires both technical and organizational changesTalk to business usersUnderstand their workflowsLearn their pain pointsMake them partners in solutions3. Create Sustainable SystemsYour value as a data engineer grows when you bridge technical and business needs.Document processes, not just codeTrain people, not just implement toolsBuild accountability frameworksEstablish ownershipIn Enterprises, sometimes the best solution isnt more code its better processes.Remember: Your technical skills are still crucial, but theyre most powerful when applied in support of well-designed processes and clear organizational responsibilities.Useful links: The Who Does What Guide To Enterprise Data Quality | by Michael Segner | Towards Data Science | MediumThe future of AI depends not just on having more data, but on having better data. Organizations that prioritize data quality and build flexible data infrastructure will be best positioned to leverage AIs potential. The organizations that master these elements will be the ones that lead in the AI-driven future. In the end, the story of AI isnt just about algorithms or computing power its about the quality of the data that drives them. Thanks for reading.https://x.com/richiebachalaJoin thousands of data leaders on the AI newsletter. Noah Centineo Wants to Keep Getting His Ass Handed to Him in The Recruit Season 3www.denofgeek.comThis article contains a few spoilers for The Recruit season 2.Noah Centineo has had an incredible month on Netflix. Not only did his hit series The Recruit return for its sophomore season, but he also made a guest appearance on season 2 of XO, Kitty, reprising his To All the Boys Ive Loved Before role as Peter Kavinsky for the first time in years. While neither show has been renewed for a third season as of yet, Den of Geek had the opportunity to talk with Centineo at SCAD TVfest about his thoughts on both projects, and his hopes for Owen in the future. The Recruit season 2 saw Centineos CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks once again get in way over his head tracking down a graymailer for the agency. This time, his mission took him to South Korea, where he discovers that the graymailer is an NIS agent looking to get the CIAs help in rescuing his kidnapped wife in exchange for his silence. The season ends with a successful rescue mission, albeit with more than a few hiccups along the way.Owen offers the NIS agent, Jang Kyu (Teo Yoo) the opportunity for him and his wife to start new lives in America, in exchange for Jang Kyus continued cooperation with the CIA, leaving the door open for Owen to become a more permanent member of the operations team rather than just a lawyer who continues to find himself in over his head. But whether or not this happens in a potential third season is yet to be determined. The only thing I know [about season 3] is that it needs to blow season 2 and season 1 out of the water. I think compared to season 1, season 2 really elevated the series. It was very propulsive. And I think season 3 needs to be the same, Centineo says. We need to keep getting better and better, and Owen needs to keep getting his ass handed to him.Part of Owens charm comes from his ability to consistently find himself in over his head and have to come up with unique ways to dig himself out. And Centineo says that he carries that believability of inexperience into his own performance. Youve got to feel like a novice even with the stunt doubles, Centineo explains. When were doing stunts, theyre trained to look cool while doing things, and Owens not trained at all to be a spy, right? Hes a lawyer. So even with the stunt doubles, you go like, Hey guys, he needs to look less cool, more spastic. I dont really train to do any of that stuff to look like I know how to fight, or I know how to handle weapons.Even if we do get to see Owen become an operations agent, its likely there will still be a decent learning curve for the young lawyer, which is just how Centineo wants it. He may have more field experience than most lawyers, but that doesnt automatically make him an expert. If The Recruit returns for another season, it will be interesting to see how Owen adapts to having his own asset and what that means for his future with the CIA.Depending on what kind of information Jang Kyu shares, its possible that Owen could end up back in Korea, especially because he also spent this season reconnecting with a childhood friend and potential love interest, Yoo Jin Lee (Shin Do-hyun). Sure Owen and the NIS didnt necessarily end on the best terms, but when has that stopped him before?Besides, if Owen does end up back in Korea, the potential for another Peter Kavinsky cameo in XO, Kitty increases. Youd have to ask Netflix. I think maybe it was by design on their end, or it really was just a happy coincidence, Centineo says of his season 2 cameo. The moment that the teams over at Netflix and ACE [Entertainment] realized that I was going to be over there for The Recruit, they hit me up. And I said, Of course, I would love to.Join our mailing listGet the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox!More Peter Kavinsky and Owen Hendricks is never a bad thing as far as were concerned. Hopefully both of these shows will find a way for Centineo to grace our screens once again. These characters are wildly different, but the charm he injects into them both makes them easy to love, in their own way. No matter whats next for Owen, its nice to know that Centineo is just as eager to see him continue to fail upwards as we are.0 Commentaires ·0 Parts ·8 Vue

Sid Meiers Civilization VII on Xbox Reignites That Just One More Turn Feelingnews.xbox.comPublishedFebruary 11, 2025 I cant remember the last time I was able to get started in a grand strategy game this quickly, but thats what Sid Meiers Civilization VII on Xbox Series X|S has managed to pull off. Sure, my experience with the franchise doesnt hurt, but the ease at which the game now carries me into the strategic world of trade, diplomacy, and war is both equally impressive and terrifying because its so dang hard to put the controller down.Part of what helps this streamlined approach is how everything is tightly designed to work with your Xbox Wireless controller. The in-game radial wheel (RB button) gives quick access to the Leaders youve encountered and to your research branches like Technology and Civics. Navigating between all these menus is also very crisp, which is important as youll be back and forth between these areas of the game quite often. Traversing the world map is equally impressive. A smooth glide across the map from one corner to the next, revealing its many hidden locations, performed very well on my console, as well as how effortlessly you could zoom in and out of the map to pore over the detail of the units and structures. Speaking of the game world, it has moved away from the cartoon-like approach of the previous entry, giving everything a bit more of a modern polish with structures and units resembling painted miniatures, which is fitting as how much of this feels like playing a board game on your console.Turns (mapped to the Y button on your controller, which will be getting a workout) also loaded incredibly fast. That goes even in the latter stages of the game when you have dozens of units all moving in tandem across the screen. If youve played some form of Civilization games in the past, you know how taxying it can be waiting for every civilization to finish their turn. Thankfully, thats not the case here as the AI players are much more efficient, and the games engine seems more refined here for Xbox Series X|S.Beyond these improvements, there are a few cool new things that are making Civilization VII stand apart from its predecessors. One of those is breaking up Leaders and Civilizations, allowing you to mix and match various traits with one another, giving you a tremendous number of ways to play (and replay), allowing you to customize and formulate your own strategy of conquering the world. For example, in one playthrough I selected Harriet Tubman because I wanted to utilize her Espionage ability, paired with Egypt for its powerful Medjay units. And if I could get Tubman into the Modern age, the third phase of the game, it would unlock the American civilization for me to use in another playthrough. This new feature is a winner for me, giving me some added flexibility for how Id like to approach a gaming session for Civilization VII, encouraging me to try something different and rewarding that performance by unlocking additional civilizations to play with later. Ive only just started to scratch the surface here on how deep this goes, but its clear the replay factor here will be very high.Another of the groundbreaking features that I touched on earlier is the Age system. Instead of picking one Civilization and playing them all the way through to the end of the game, you can now change that civilization once you start the Antiquity, Exploration, and Modern Age. Again, this allows you to experience more of what the game can offer in a single game session, rather than having to start all over again, a big departure from how previous Civilizations played. And its not like youre doing a full reset once you pick your next Age civilization. Youre allowed to choose a series of Legacies that can carry over with you. How many of these Legacy bonuses you get to pick from are determined by the number of Milestones you completed during the previous Age, like building Wonders or seizing land from hostile nations. These accomplishments grant you attribution points that you can put into your next Ages civilization. This is a great feature because, in the same way a lot of Civilization VII is designed, its driven to get you to focus on accomplishing a dedicated goal; the right way to play the game through a series of quests. Its almost like this could be called Civilization: RPG, but instead of asking you to gather 12 boar hides youre asked to build seven Wonders.Embarking on your next Age also lets you change your Legacy path by following the guidance of your preferred advisor: Economic, Military, Cultural, or Science. So, you could play through the Antiquity Age driven by science, then as a war-mongering nation during the Exploration Age, and finally as a cultural genius in the Modern Age. Again, this all feeds into what Ive mentioned before in that its giving you these achievable, focused goals while encouraging you to keep trying new things.Speaking from past-play experience, staying focused on any Civilization game can be a daunting task. Now with Civilization VII, it seems like Firaxis Games may have found a solution, giving us clearer guidance on how to stick to one of these Legacy paths to cut down on multiple ambitions with a better shot at how to achieve victory. Every new Civilization game is a statement, ushering in a new era for the grand strategy genre while finding new and innovative ways to expand upon its already well-established formula. Now, with its blend of Legacy bonuses, the dynamic Age system, and the flexibility to mix Leaders and Civilizations as you like, Firaxis Games has brought an unbelievable amount of depth to explore in Sid Meiers Civilization VII that should keep you engrossed for hours upon hours on Xbox Series X|S, reigniting that Just One More Turn feeling. Im David Brevik, President and Executive Producer at Skystone Games. As someone who has spent decades creating and supporting games that blend immersive worlds with powerful storytelling, I am incredibly excited to share a game that pushes those boundaries even further. Undying, crafted by the brilliant minds at Vanimals, is out now. Its not just a game; its an experience that will challenge your mind, touch your heart, and leave you thinking long after youve set the controller down.A Story That Stays with YouIn Undying, you step into the shoes of Anling, a mother facing the unimaginable. Bitten during a zombie outbreak, she knows her time is limited. With the clock ticking, her sole focus becomes teaching her young son, Cody, how to survive in a world that has fallen apart. This isnt just a game about fighting off hordes of the undead. Its a game about passing on knowledge, building bonds, and ensuring that what truly matterslove, resilience, and hopeendures. The narrative is deeply personal, and every choice you make ripples through Anling and Codys journey. Do you spend time gathering resources for the short term, or focus on teaching Cody skills that will last a lifetime? As Anlings condition worsens, the weight of your decisions grows heavier. This is survival at its most intimate and emotional.A Unique Blend of Gameplay and EmotionFrom a gameplay perspective, Undying combines the best elements of survival mechanics with a heartfelt narrative. Youll scavenge for resources, manage limited supplies, and craft tools to fend off the dangers of a zombie-ravaged world. But unlike other survival games, every action is tied to Anlings dwindling time and Codys growth.Cody isnt just a side character; hes your legacy. As you teach him skills like cooking, crafting, and defending himself, youll see him grow into someone capable of facing the challenges ahead. The dynamic between Anling and Cody evolves in real-time, making every moment you spend together meaningful. The Vision Behind UndyingWhat makes Undying truly special is the team behind it. Vanimals is a studio that doesnt shy away from taking risks. Theyve created a game that not only challenges how we think about the survival genre but also prioritizes emotional depth and human connection.Every aspect of Undying reflects their passion and creativity. The art style, with its minimalist yet striking visuals, draws you into a world that feels both haunting and hopeful. The soundtrack underscores the emotional weight of the story, enhancing every moment. And the gameplay mechanics, from resource management to skill progression, are seamlessly integrated into the narrative. As someone who has spent a lifetime designing games, Im constantly inspired by teams like Vanimals. They remind us that games arent just about mechanics or graphics; theyre about stories that resonate, characters that matter, and worlds that stay with us long after weve left them. And Guess What? Its out TodayUndying is more than just a game about surviving the end of the world. Its a story about what it means to truly live, to love, and to leave something behind. Next years MacBook Pro could be Apples biggest Mac upgrade ever9to5mac.comApples MacBook Pro recently received an M4 update, and theres an M5 version expected later this year. But its the model coming late next yearin 2026that sounds especially compelling. This new MacBook Pro could even be the biggest Mac upgrade ever. Heres whats coming.Total redesign thats thinner and lighterThe MacBook Pro last received a big redesign in 2021. That update restored previously-removed ports, fixed longstanding keyboard issues, and was largely seen as Apples apology for prior missteps.According to multiple reports, the MacBook Pro will get its next big revision in 2026. This total redesign will make the device thinner and lighter. Those words may ring alarm bells for MacBook Pro users who lived through the butterfly keyboard era. But with Apple Silicon, Apple has so far proven its able to make devices thinner and lighter without compromising on power.Im curious to see what the port situation is on the new MacBook Pro. My hope, though, is that Apple can slim the device down without sacrificing any ports it recently restored.OLED display with no notchAnother key aspect of the MacBook Pro redesign will be its display, which is expected to ditch the notch as part of a switch to OLED.The new display is expected to feature similar OLED tech to whats found in the M4 iPad Pro. And in place of the notch will be a smaller hole cut.Does that mean well get a Dynamic Island on the Mac? Well have to wait and see, but OLED on the iPad Pro is fantastic, so it will be great to see it come to the Mac too.M6 chip lineThe M4 has been available less than a year, and only just arrived on the Mac a few months ago, so theres nothing concrete known about the M6 yet. However, Apple is expected to ship an M5 MacBook Pro this year with the same basic design available now, which means 2026s big update should come with M6, M6 Pro, and M6 Max configurations.5G cellular connectivityApples new in-house 5G modems are launching soon in select products, and a second version of the modem is set to debut in 2026, with the MacBook Pro a likely recipient.Ive long advocated for adding cellular to the Mac, and identified Apples in-house modems as the next best chance for this to finally happen. Per Mark Gurman, it sounds like thats what Apple is thinking too.Wildcard: Touch supportTouch on the Mac has been rumored off and on for as long as the iPads existed. It hasnt happened yet, and perhaps it never will. However, theres solid evidence that the 2026 MacBook Pro might be Apples target for the first touch-enabled Mac.Back in early 2023, Mark Gurman reported that a touchscreen MacBook Pro was in development. He said at the time that 2025 was the targeted release window. In the same report, Gurman wrote:As part of the MacBook Pro revamp, Apple is also planning to move its displays to organic light-emitting diode, or OLED technology. So touch and OLED were, at least at one point, planned to go together in a new MacBook Pro.The projected 2025 date was also reportedly when Apple wanted to ship OLED in the MacBook Pro, and thats now been pushed to 2026.It seems, then, that Apples plans to ship an OLED touch display in the MacBook Pro havent changedjust the timing. All of this is reiterated by a more recent Gurman hint that Apples near-term plans for the Mac involve faster chips, thinner designs and touch screens. The only touchscreen MacBook we'll ever see is whatever fullscreen iPad/MacBook mix will happen, hence, something that can be used flat on a surface, or slightly reclined. The TouchBar failed because you had to extend the arm too far to press the virtual buttons, let alone the almost vertical Mac's screen. View all commentsI could be reading the tea leaves too closely, but it sounds a lot to me like 2026s big MacBook Pro redesign could finally bring touch support to the Mac.MacBook Pro 2026 upgrade: wrap-upWere still a solid year and a half away from when Apple is expected to launch its big MacBook Pro redesign. As a result, many of the above details could change. That said, lets assume Apple is able to deliver all of these new features in a powerful, redesigned MacBook Pro. That product will undoubtedly be the single best upgrade the device has ever seenand perhaps the best Mac upgrade ever.Do you expect to see these MacBook Pro changes happen next year? Why or why not?
