  • James Bond Producer Didn't Want Guns In GoldenEye 007 Wii Remake, Bobby Kotick Says
    www.gamespot.com
It's hard to imagine GoldenEye 007 without the silenced PP7 or Klobb, but when Activison was working on the Wii remake, a James Bond film rights holder "didn't really want guns in the game." This is according to former Activision head honcho Bobby Kotick, who opened up about the challenges of creating a new GoldenEye game in 2010.Appearing on the Grit podcast, Kotick found himself in the middle of a Nintendo 64 discussion. The former Activision Blizzard CEO said that the original "GoldenEye is what actually sold the N64" and then transitioned to talking about the 2010 GoldenEye 007 reimagining for Wii. "We made a sequel, and it was a challenging thing to make because Barbara Broccoli [co-owner of the James Bond film franchise rights] did not really want anything that was violence," Kotick said. "And she didn't really want guns in the game." Kotick does believe that Broccoli and her half-brother Michael G. Wilson "are great custodians for the IP." In fact, Kotick mentioned that he understood her point about violence because kids love James Bond, but you couldn't go that route with the expectations behind a new GoldenEye game.Continue Reading at GameSpot

  • World of Warcrafts big goblin patch gets a launch date of Feb. 25
    www.polygon.com
The first major content patch for The War Within is all about goblins, and the patch is set to arrive on Feb. 25. Tuesday, Blizzard announced the release date for both the main patch and the beginning of season 2, as well as a rundown of all the new features players can expect. The expansions story takes us to Undermine, the goblin capital a massive urban center with driveable and upgradeable cars, a series of competing cartels, and a new dungeon centered around blowing up a dam.The patch, titled Undermined, will go live in two parts. On Feb. 5, Undermine will open up, with the new D.R.I.V.E. system, joinable cartels, the Operation: Floodgate dungeon, new Delves, and a new PvP map. Players will also be able to pick new log-in camps for their Warbands, which is a nice cosmetic feature that lets all of your alts hang out.On March 2, players will be able to participate in the new raid, Liberation of Undermine, and finally beat up long-time bad guy Gallywix. There will be new tier sets for each class in Liberation of Undermine, a popular feature for completionists and those into their class aesthetic fantasy. Blizzard will also introduce an updated Mythic+ rotation. Well just have to wait and see how the raid concludes, and how this links to the greater story of Xalatath and her schemes.

  • You Should Double Check Which Apps Can See Your iPhone Photos
    lifehacker.com
It happens way too often. You install a new, interesting app. The app asks you to grant it permission to your photo library, and you end up granting it full access. That is, after all, the most convenient option. Doing this for a trusted, popular app like Instagram or Slack is fine, useful even. But not all apps are built the same.In fact, researchers have recently found photo-scanning malware apps on the App Store. Yes, malware has started to make its way from Android to the iPhone. Dubbed SparkCat, this is a kind of malware framework that runs in the background, running OCR on all your photos in hopes of finding credentials to your crypto account. But any app that has access to your entire photo library can, theoretically, access text inside photos, like your credit card details, or your IDs (though you should never keep unprotected photos of important documents in your Camera Roll). In light of this news, and as a way to make sure that unnecessary or smaller apps aren't accessing all your photos, you should take some time to audit which apps have complete photos access, and revoke apps that don't really need it.Revoke photo access for iPhone appsOpen the Settings app and go to Privacy & Security. Then, choose the Photos app and go through all the apps that have access to its photos. Here, you'll see the access level for each app. Choose an app that you want to revoke permissions for and switch to None or Limited Access. When you choose Limited Access, you'll be prompted to select the photos that you do want to provide access to, rather than giving it blanket access to your whole library. Repeat for any apps you want to change permissions for, then tap Done. Credit: Khamosh Pathak If you gave an app Limited Access and attempt to access your photo library with it, your iPhone will ask you if you want to keep the current selection, or add more photos. You can choose the Select More Photos option to add more recent photos to the mix. Credit: Khamosh Pathak You can also always revise an app's photo permissions at any time from Privacy & Security > Photos > App > Done. And while you're already in your Privacy & Security settings, it might also be worth enabling the new Private Access feature that can help you automatically remove location data when you upload or share photos to the selected app.

Samsung Galaxy S22 (Factory Unlocked) $347.00 $849.99 Save $502.99 Get Deal Get Deal $347.00 $849.99 Save $502.99 For under $350, youre getting a compact, premium phone (covered by a one-year Samsung manufacturer-limited warranty) that still holds up in 2024. This Phantom Black version on sale comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB of storage, so you wont have to worry about running out of space anytime soon. Plus, its 6.1-inch AMOLED screen is reportedly bright, crisp, and adaptive, shifting between 48Hz and 120Hz depending on what youre doing, and if you want to save battery, you can lock it at 60Hz, according to this PCMag review. Performance-wise, its Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor keeps things fast and smooth, and Samsungs OneUI (on Android 12) is loaded with handy features. If you travel a lot, youll appreciate its full 5G support across U.S. networks, with solid connectivity even in weaker signal areas. The S22's camera setup is solid, especially for this priceits 50MP main sensor captures detailed shots, its ultra-wide lens is great for landscapes, and its 3x telephoto gives you a nice zoom for portraits. The S22 lets you record videos in 4K at 60fps or 8K (though its locked to 24fps). On the downside, the battery life of the S22 isnt great. Its 3,700mAh battery barely lasts over five hours of screen time, which means youll probably need a midday charge if youre a heavy user. And, while it does support 15W wireless charging and reverse charging, its fast charging speeds couldve been better.
