• Ivanti Patches Critical Flaws in Connect Secure and Policy Secure Update Now
    thehackernews.com
Feb 12, 2025Ravie LakshmananNetwork Security / VulnerabilityIvanti has released security updates to address multiple security flaws impacting Connect Secure (ICS), Policy Secure (IPS), and Cloud Services Application (CSA) that could be exploited to achieve arbitrary code execution. The list of vulnerabilities is below -CVE-2024-38657 (CVSS score: 9.1) - External control of a file name in Ivanti Connect Secure before version 22.7R2.4 and Ivanti Policy Secure before version 22.7R1.3 allows a remote authenticated attacker with admin privileges to write arbitrary filesCVE-2025-22467 (CVSS score: 9.9) - A stack-based buffer overflow in Ivanti Connect Secure before version 22.7R2.6 allows a remote authenticated attacker to achieve remote code executionCVE-2024-10644 (CVSS score: 9.1) - Code injection in Ivanti Connect Secure before version 22.7R2.4 and Ivanti Policy Secure before version 22.7R1.3 allows a remote authenticated attacker with admin privileges to achieve remote code executionCVE-2024-47908 (CVSS score: 9.1) - Operating system command injection in the admin web console of Ivanti CSA before version 5.0.5 allows a remote authenticated attacker with admin privileges to achieve remote code executionThe shortcomings have been addressed in the below versions -Ivanti Connect Secure 22.7R2.6Ivanti Policy Secure 22.7R1.3Ivanti CSA 5.0.5 The company said it's not aware of any of the flaws being exploited in the wild. However, with Ivanti appliances being repeatedly weaponized by malicious actors, it's imperative that users take steps to apply the latest patches.Ivanti also acknowledged that its edge products have been "targeted and exploited by sophisticated threat actor attacks" and that it's making efforts to improve its software, implement secure-by-design principles, and raise the bar for potential abuse by adversaries."While these products are not the ultimate target, they are increasingly the route that well-resourced nation state groups are focusing their effort on to attempt espionage campaigns against extremely high-value organizations," Ivanti CSO Daniel Spicer said."We have enhanced internal scanning, manual exploitation and testing capabilities, increased collaboration and information sharing with the security ecosystem, and further enhanced our responsible disclosure process, including becoming a CVE Numbering Authority."The development comes as Bishop Fox released full technical details of a now-patched security flaw in SonicWall SonicOS (CVE-2024-53704) that could be exploited to bypass authentication in firewalls and allow attackers to hijack active SSL VPN sessions in order to gain unauthorized access. As of February 7, 2025, nearly 4,500 internet-facing SonicWall SSL VPN servers remain unpatched against CVE-2024-53704.In a similar move, Akamai has published its discovery of two vulnerabilities in Fortinet FortiOS (CVE-2024-46666 and CVE-2024-46668) that an unauthenticated attacker can exploit to achieve denial-of-service (DoS) and remote code execution. The flaws were resolved by Fortinet on January 14, 2025.Fortinet has since also revised its advisory for CVE-2024-55591 to highlight another flaw tracked as CVE-2025-24472 (CVSS score: 8.1) that could result in an authentication bypass in FortiOS and FortiProxy devices via a specially crafted CSF proxy request. The company credited watchTowr Labs researcher Sonny Macdonald for discovering and reporting the flaw. It's worth noting that the vulnerability has already been patched alongside CVE-2024-55591, meaning no customer action is required if fixes for the latter have already been applied.Found this article interesting? • DLA completes new construction and engineering facility at Oaklands College
    www.bdonline.co.uk
1/7show captionDLA Architecture has completed a new Construction and Engineering Centre at Oaklands College in St Albans, forming part of the colleges wider masterplan to modernise facilities and expand vocational training. The building is designed to provide a flexible learning environment for students training in construction and engineering trades. The masterplan, which received planning consent in 2018, involves the phased replacement of outdated buildings with nine new structures, linked by a reconfigured landscape setting. The development aims to minimise civil works while maximising investment in teaching spaces. The latest phase includes a purpose-built facility with eleven classrooms, eight workshops, and ancillary spaces designed to support both traditional construction methods and emerging technologies. The new centre incorporates exposed building services, allowing students to observe mechanical and electrical systems in operation. Features include an air-source heat pump (ASHP) heating system, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery (MVHR), and visible installations of water, power, and data services. The electrical renewables workshop is intended to introduce students to photovoltaic (PV) technology, while links with the Motor Vehicle courses aim to facilitate training in electric vehicle (EV) systems.1/11show captionChris Levett, director at DLA Architecture, said: We are passionate about further education and the key part it plays in the UK economy. This building has been designed not only to create a real work environment but also to engender curiosity from students, to discover how the building was built from daily use. From exposed construction methodologies to demonstrating different brick bonds, the building is a potent teaching tool.Oliver Watson, associate at DLA Architecture, added: Sustainability and the circular economy have been at the heart of our design. We have prioritised reducing the CO and environmental impact of those elements that could be replaced many times during the lifespan, such as services fittings, FF&E and internal finishes. The specification of the internal finishes uses elemental components that can be easily accessed for repair or upgrade. This approach also becomes part of our strategy of designing the building as a teaching tool and a test bed for future construction. The new facility supports both formal and practical learning, with informal study spaces integrated throughout. The project forms part of Oaklands Colleges wider strategy to address skills shortages in the construction industry. The facility has been built to LETI guidance on thermal and air-tightness standards, aligning with the colleges broader sustainability targets.Project teamMain contractor:RG CartersPost-contract design:RG CartersProject manager and cost consultant:Fusion PMStructural engineer:SwecoMechanical engineer:CPWPLandscape architect:Create Landscape

  • Tabby doubles valuation to $3.3B in $160M funding as it looks beyond BNPL and plans IPO
    techcrunch.com
Consumer demand for credit options varies across regions, and for fintechs, understanding these differences is key to survival. In developed markets, where credit cards are common, consumers often view buy now, pay later (BNPL) offerings positively because of their flexible installment options. But in emerging markets like the Middle East, where credit card penetration is low but spending power is high, BNPL has an even more convincing use case. The model is gaining such strong traction that Tabby, one of the regions pioneers, has now become the most valuable fintech in MENA after securing $160 million in a Series E round at a $3.3 billion valuation.Growth equity investor Blue Pool Capital and investment management firm Hassana Investment Company co-led the financing. Saudi-based investor STV and Wellington Management also participated. The round comes less than 18 months after Tabby raised $200 million in a Series D round when it was valued at $1.5 billion. Since then, Tabby which says it is profitable has doubled its valuation and annualized transaction volume, which now exceeds $10 billion, according to the company. As our volumes have doubled, the profitability of the business has grown significantly, Tabby founder and CEO Hosam Arab tells TechCrunch. He attributes this growth to the launch of new products, which have driven higher usage frequency. Customers used to rely on us only for e-commerce or [point-of-sale] spending. Now, especially in the UAE, they see Tabby as a tool to manage all their spending, whether its buying a cup of coffee or taking an Uber ride, he adds.Move into broader financial servicesOriginally focused on online transactions, Tabby later expanded into in-store payments, then deeper into retail and financial services. Its Tabby Card now allows users to spend flexibly, while Tabby Plus offers a subscription-based rewards program. Meanwhile, Tabby Shop provides longer-term payment plans to help users access better deals. The Riyadh-headquartered fintech, which now supports 40,000+ brands and merchantsincluding Amazon, Adidas, IKEA, Samsung, and Noonsays expanding its product line has helped grow its user base to 15 million customers across Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Kuwait, a 50% increase since October 2023.Tabby isnt stopping at credit. Last year, it acquired Tweeq, a Saudi-based digital wallet provider, as part of its plan to expand into broader financial services, including digital accounts, payments, and money management tools, offerings that align with the countrys push toward a cashless economy.Further on its road map, Tabby is eyeing remittances, an area where it already has strong positioning. With Saudi Arabia and the UAE among the worlds largest remittance markets, Tabbys customer baseheavily composed of expatspresents a natural opportunity. While Arab declines to share specific details, Tabby may initially target the UAE-India corridor, one of the busiest remittance routes globally. He does note that flexibility will be key in Tabbys provision of remittance services. Unlike traditional remittance providers, the fintech plans to allow users to split remittances over time, an option few competitors offer.Brewing competition and IPO plansTabby competes regionally with Coatue-backed Tamara in the BNPL space. With remittances, it will face newfound competition from global players like Revolut, the U.K.-based neobank, which announced plans to enter UAEs $44 billion market last September.Yet, Arab is confident that the scale, local market expertise, trusted brand, and deep customer relationships Tabby has amassed as one of the regions largest financial services platforms, with a large customer base and an extensive merchant network, will work in its favor. On the IPO front, this Series E round might be Tabbys last private raise before going public on the Saudi Exchange. That was also supposed to be the case during its Series D, but market conditions may have delayed those plans. Were opportunistic with funding rounds, says Arab. This was the right discussion with the right partner at the right time, so we decided to raise now. That said, our plans for an IPO remain unchanged. Were fairly serious about it, and unless markets shift significantly, were unlikely to raise another private round.Investor demand for tech IPOs in MENA is rising. Talabats massive listing in Dubai last year showed the regions appetite for high-growth startups. Meanwhile, Klarnas expected IPO in April could serve as a bellwether for BNPL companies, signaling whats ahead for the sector. (Already, Amazon announced plans to buy Indian player Axio.) For now, though, Tabby, which has raised over $1 billion in equity and debt, is focused on scaling its financial ecosystemand when the time is right, it aims to be the regions next major tech listing. Per Bloomberg, the fintech, which moved its HQ from Dubai to Riyadh for this purpose, has hired three banks to work on the deal. Topics

  • Elon Musk Offers to Buy OpenAI with a $94.7B Bid: Sam Altman Immediately Turns It Down
    techreport.com
Key TakeawaysMusk and a consortium of investors offered $94.7 billion to buy OpenAI, aiming to return it to an open-source model. Sam Altman and OpenAIs board swiftly rejected the bid and instead offered $9.74 billion to buy Musks X.Musk co-founded OpenAI but left in 2018. Since then, Altman has shifted OpenAI towards a for-profit model, arguing its necessary for AI development. Musk has opposed this.Musks bid could have given him significant control over generative AI, but OpenAI views it as an attempt to eliminate competition.Another day, another Sam Altman and Elon Musk feud.In todays episode, the OpenAI CEO reportedly declared that the Musk-led groups surprise bid to buy OpenAI would be rejected. He instead offered to buy X, owned by Musk. The consortium of investors, along with Elon, launched to buy the artificial intelligence leader for $94.7 billion, the bid was submitted by a lawyer for Tesla and Elon Musk. Its time for OpenAI to return to the open-source, safety-focused force for good it once was, We will make sure that happens. Elon MuskAccording to the Information, Mr. Altman sent a memo to staff on Monday stating the board of directors have no interest in the bid presented and quickly turned down the offer, and offered a bid price of $9.74 billion to buy Musks X (formerly known as Twitter).Sam didnt sound very pleased with the offer when he offered his remarks to Axios on the topic and made it very clear that neither OpenAI nor its mission is up for sale.He also added that the bid looked like an attempt to clear competition since Musks xAI hasnt been able to beat OpenAI in the market.Musk and Altmans Long-Running FeudElon Musk helped fund OpenAI in 2015 and was one of its founding members. He resigned from the board in 2018 but both of them have since been debating over who should take the lead and decide the AI giants future.OpenAI was initially started as a non-profit company with a mission to create AI tools that would benefit humanity. Gradually, Altman started to commercialize the platform and created a subsidiary in 2019 which would allow the AI giant to incentivize outside investment without having to let go of the non-profit board.According to certain reports, Altman is restructuring the company, steering it to become a completely for-profit entity. OpenAI argues that this step is essential to draw in the much-required funds for the development of the best AI models.Several executives, including CTO, Mira Murti left the company soon after this. Co-founder Ilya Sutskever also quit to start a new safer and sustainable AI venture.Musk filed a case against OpenAI last year, alleging that it had betrayed its principles and violated the terms of Musks original donations to the non-profit. Since then, the feud has continued, with occasional X controversies and press comments made on their opinions about AIs direction.Had OpenAI accepted this bid, it wouldve meant an almost autonomous control of Elon Musk over generative AI, giving him the power to pivot its growth in whatever direction he wished. According to Musks lawyer, the sole intention behind the bid was to restore ChatGPT to its original form. When asked whether Mr. Musks intervention could complicate the for-profit arm of OpenAIs takeover, Mr. Altman responded, The board will decide what to do thereAdd Techreport to Your Google News Feed Get the latest updates, trends, and insights delivered straight to your fingertips. Firefly Aerospace has confirmed that all is well with its lunar-bound Blue Ghost spacecraft, which launched on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida on January 15.In fact, things are going so smoothly that the mission team has been able to cancel a plan to perform a controlled adjustment to the flight path of the spacecraft as it makes its way to the moon.Recommended VideosThe team confirmed Blue Ghosts first trajectory correction maneuver was performed with such accuracy we are skipping the next one, Texas-based Firefly said in a post on X on Tuesday. Itll touch down near a volcanic feature called Mons Latreille within Mare Crisium, a large basin located in the northeast quadrant of the moons near side. After that, the lander will deploy 10 scientific investigations and technology demonstrations, beaming back data that should prove useful for future crewed missions.Speaking about Blue Ghost Mission 1 last month, Jason Kim, CEO of Firefly, said his team is now fully focused on execution as we look to complete our on-orbit operations, softly touch down on the lunar surface, and pave the way for humanitys return to the moon.Editors Recommendations

  • Palmer Luckey says his entire career has led to this moment — scoring a $22 billion US Army contract for high-tech goggles
    www.businessinsider.com
Palmer Luckey's Anduril is set to take over Microsoft's US Army contract for mixed-reality goggles. The 10-year contract, worth $22 billion, has been plagued by development issues.Anduril now has a shot a moment that Luckey said was part of Anduril's original vision.Palmer Luckey just clinched a big personal win his defense startup, Anduril, is set to take over Microsoft's $22 billion contract to make high-tech goggles for the US Army. Both firms announced the transition on Tuesday, saying Anduril would spearhead "oversight of production, future development of hardware and software, and delivery timelines" for the Integrated Visual Augmentation System program. The IVAS is meant to give soldiers a headset that uses augmented and visual reality to feed them information on the battlefield in real time. One of its most important functions is to help the wearer identify drones quickly and clearly. For Luckey, the contract transition is his own watershed moment. In hisblogon Tuesday, he wrote that the announcement is "deeply personal.""Everything I've done in my career building Oculus out of a camper trailer, shipping VR to millions of consumers, getting run out of Silicon Valley by backstabbing snakes, betting that Anduril could tear people out of the bigtech megacorp matrix and put them to work on our nation's most important problems has led to this moment," he wrote. The move calls back to Luckey's original foray into the tech industry, when he founded Oculus VR and sold it to Facebook in 2014 for $2 billion. After being ousted from Facebook, he started Anduril in 2017, and his defense startup has since delved into drones, AI, and counter-electronic warfare systems for the US military. In September, Microsoft and Anduril said they were collaborating on the IVAS program, with Luckey's firm providing its Lattice software for the headsets. Now, the entire program is set to be under Anduril's control.Luckey wrote in his blog that he'd recognized the combat potential for high-tech goggles since he was a teenager, and that providing them to the US military was part of Anduril's original pitch deck eight years ago.Yet Anduril's size at the time, which he estimated was a team of about a dozen people, hurt its chances at scoring the contract."I do believe our crazy pitch could have won this from the start as things stand, though, there is no time like the present," Luckey wrote. The US Army is having a rough time with IVASThe handover still needs to be approved by the US government. The US Army awarded Microsoft the 10-year contract in 2021, when the deal was valued at up to $22 billion. The IVAS program has since faced a tough road in development and testing. Microsoft converted its HoloLens 2 headsets for military use, but soldiers criticized the devices, complaining of software glitches and side effects like headaches, nausea, and neck strain. A US Army soldier wearing a prototype IVAS headset. US Army The feedback prompted the US Army to delay the IVAS program in October 2021, and the systems have been repeatedly retweaked for the battlefield in the years after.Within Microsoft, the entire HoloLens project appeared to be ailing. Business Insider's Ashely Stewart reported in 2022 that plans for a third version of the headset were scrapped, and that the company had lost billions on its mixed-reality program. In October 2024, Microsoft confirmed plans to halt production of the HoloLens 2 and cut support for the device, throwing the IVAS program into question. Microsoft's move tracked with a shift in the entire industry, as tech giants stepped back from developing mixed-reality headsets to instead focus on the AI race. After Microsoft's decision, the US Army hinted in late January that it was surveying the market for a new contender for its 10-year contract, releasing a request for information related to the IVAS program. With Anduril now in the driver's seat, it's not immediately clear what hardware it will use for the IVAS. There was no mention of the discontinued HoloLens 2 in its joint statement with Microsoft.Instead, the joint statement said that part of Anduril's deal is to make Microsoft's Azure cloud service its "preferred hyperscale cloud" for the IVAS.As Anduril takes over IVAS, Luckey projected confidence in his blog, writing that he wanted to "turn warfighters into technomancers" through his heads-up displays."We have a shot to prove that this long-standing dream is no windmill," he wrote.Anduril and Microsoft did not respond to requests for comment sent outside regular business hours by Business Insider.
