  • Custom Minecraft-Inspired Game Engine For GameCube & Dreamcast
    cgshares.com
Flock of Meeses engine is a fully custom-built, Minecraft-inspired engine created to run on older consoles like the Dreamcast, GameCube, and Wii. While it might look just like a Minecraft clone for now, the goal is to replicate the mechanics of Minecraft Beta 1.7.3 and then evolve into an original block-based game that surpasses it in both gameplay and visual fidelity, showcasing the technical capabilities of this engine.Meese specifically chose the Dreamcast because its barely capable enough to run an open-world voxel game. This challenge sparked a lot of creativity in performance optimization, and the result was a major success: despite having only 16 MB of main RAM, Dreamcast already runs Meeses engine at 30 FPS, while the GameCube port achieves a smooth 60 FPS.Why would someone build an engine for these old consoles? It seems like a project of passion, similar to how people continue to port DOOM to different devices, testing their programming skills to the limit and exploring just how far classic games can be pushed. Once released, youll have the chance to put your 20-year-old consoles to work with this game, or you can choose to play it via a PC port. According to Meese, there will likely be a distinction between the modern PC version and the retro console versions, as he wants the PC to fully take advantage of newer hardware. Here are some more examples of Meese Engines progress and capabilities:Follow A Flock of Meese on X/Twitter for more updates, and if youre interested in projects developed for retro hardware, check out Elias Dalers game for the original PlayStation:Also, join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us on Instagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Custom Minecraft-Inspired Game Engine For GameCube & Dreamcast appeared first on CG SHARES.

Following recent leaks, Activision has officially confirmed Call of Duty's next big IP collaboration is with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Season 2 of Black Ops 6 and Warzone is themed around ninjas, so there's no better time to bring in the heroes in a half-shell.Activision made the TMNT crossover announcement with a brief teaser clip for Call of Duty, which shows Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo peeking out from a sewer manhole. This likely means there will be operator skins for all four turtles. Call of Duty previously had a TMNT collab for 2022's Modern Warfare 2, but the only character featured was Shredder.COD-A-BUNGA! pic.twitter.com/sdH1hSd9hr Call of Duty (@CallofDuty) February 13, 2025 The video doesn't give a specific date for the TMNT collaboration, teasing only that the turtles will be "coming soon."
