• Marvel Rivals Dev is in Contact with Nintendo and Open to Switch 2 Port
    gamingbolt.com
NetEase Games has maintained for a while that it has no current plans to releaseMarvel Rivalsfor the Nintendo Switch, but what about its successor? With the Switch 2 due out sometime later this year, questions about whether the hero shooter will release for the new console have been asked more than a few times. And for NetEases part, thats very much on the cards.Speaking recently with IGN, producer Weicong Wu revealed that NetEase Games is already in contact with Nintendo, and open to bringingMarvel Rivalsto the Switch 2. Wu went on to explain that the Switchs technical limitations prevented the game from releasing for Nintendos current platform, something that NetEase is hoping the Switch 2 will be able to avoid. Were already in contact with Nintendo and working on some development kits, Wu said. And whenever we find that we could provide great performance for our game on Switch 2, were open to that. The reason why we didnt launch it onto the Switch, it was the first generation of that device they cannot provide a great experience for our gameplay. So if it could achieve that goal, were open to that.Marvel Rivalsis currently available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. A Switch 2-focused Nintendo Direct is planned for April 2, where well hopefully seeMarvel Rivalsamong other titles being officially confirmed for the upcoming console.

  • DeepSeek sent user data to ByteDance, Korean probe finds
    koreajoongangdaily.joins.com
DeepSeek sent user data to ByteDance, Korean probe finds Published: 17 Feb. 2025, 17:51 Updated: 17 Feb. 2025, 19:37 LEE JAE-LIM[emailprotected]Audio report: written by reporters, read by AI People watch a TV reporting DeepSeek, a Chinese artificial intelligence startup, during a news program at the Seoul Railway Station in Seoul, on Feb. 17, 2025. [AP/YONHAP] New downloads of the DeepSeek app have been suspended in Korea after a government investigation found that its AI model had sent personal data to China's ByteDance. We found that DeepSeeks user data was leaked to ByteDance, the Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) said Monday. When users accessed DeepSeek, their information was being passed on to ByteDance as well. The PIPC said ByteDance, the Beijing-based parent company of TikTok, enacted the suspension voluntarily upon the regulator's request, admitting that it had neglected to adhere to domestic data protection laws during the launch of its global service. The finding was the result of the PIPC's ongoing investigation of DeepSeek's data security policies after a slew of government agencies and private corporations blocked the use of the service on their office devices. The commission did not specify the types of data it alleged had been passed to ByteDance but said the matter would be clarified during the investigation. We determined it would take a significant amount of time to rectify the DeepSeek service, the commission said in a briefing. To prevent further concerns from spreading, we recommended that DeepSeek temporarily halt its service in Korea while making necessary adjustments. Related Article DeepSeek is currently not available on the iOS App Store or Google Play Store for users with their locations set to Korea, though those with overseas app store locations can still download it. Korea-based users who had obtained the app before that date can still use the service. They can also access the service via web. The commission is in the stage of investigation whether DeepSeek poses any harm, the PIPC said. A full-scale ban could be controversial before its liability is officially determined. The regulator expects to complete its probe faster than it did its combined probe into the data management of OpenAI, Google and Microsoft last year, which took five months. The regulator will release guidelines for AI developers releasing their services in Korea after its DeepSeek investigation is complete. The commission is also working to revise the current Personal Data Protection Act to include stricter regulations on foreign companies. In the meantime, it requested that individual users to be prudent in entering personal information into DeepSeek's app. The agency plans to discuss security issues surrounding DeepSeek at the Global Privacy Assembly (GPA), which will take place in Seoul in September. The assembly is one of the worlds largest global networks of data protection authorities, counting the United States, the European Union, Japan and Korea as members. DeepSeek appointed a local representative in Korea last week. BY LEE JAE-LIM [[emailprotected]]

  • Why Trump's Metal Tariffs Won't Lead to the All-American iPhone
    www.wired.com
Trumps metal tariffs wont affect Apple (or any other smartphone manufacturer) directly, then, even if they cause significant turmoil in the cost of aluminum and steel in general. But the 10 percent tariffs on Chinese goods Trump announced earlier could have a direct impact on the price you pay.Around 80 percent of the world's phones are made in China, and while Apple has moved some of its manufacturing and assembly to India, millions of iPhones are still produced by Foxconn in factories in Shenzhen and Zhengzhou. The 10 percent tariffs, as it stands, will apply to these phones. And according to the Consumer Technology Association (CTA), its the American public who will end up paying the price.Tariffs are taxes on American consumers, not foreign governments or companies. Increasing tariffs on imports from Canada, China, and Mexico will fuel inflation and raise prices on tech products, automotive manufacturing, and services, says Gary Shapiro, CEO of the CTA, which is behind the annual CES tech trade show.Tariffs are tools for resolving trade disputesnot political bargaining chips for issues like immigration or drug control. That probably explains why Apples share price dropped three per cent after the China tariffs were officially announced. But even with those tariffs in place right now, they have not caused a sudden 10 percent rise in US iPhone prices. According to analysts, they may not even result in a 10 percent jump come September when the new iPhones are announced either.A 10 percent increase for the consumer will be a hard pill to swallow in a still-tough economy. So its quite possible the full 10 percent may not be passed to the end consumer or be negotiated down by that time, says Nabila Popal, a Senior Research Director at market intelligence firm IDC.Although the China tariff has stuck so far, it is also possible the situation can change by then. Especially with Trump, anything can change at any time. These tariffs being a starting point for negotiations is something Apple is familiar with. The company was granted numerous tariff exemptions during Trump's first term, with Tim Cook even sending Trump a $6000 Mac Pro after fees on the lines components added import costs were waived. This might help to explain why Cook was so visible at the inauguration this time round, or why he donated $1 million to Trumps inaugural fund.Apple, and other tech giants, work closely with US government to carve out special exceptions, says Popal. We have already seen Trump grant Apple exceptions from China tariffs in the past, so I wont be surprised if it happens again.Made in the USA?Of course, Trump's public rhetoric around the tariffs is that they are, in part, an effort to reinvigorate the American domestic industry. Phones might be small potatoes in the wider metal industry, but could these tariffsand tariffs like themever really encourage the iPhone, and other smartphones, to be made in the USA?One somewhat lazy answer to that, is they would cost several times the price, thanks to higher US wagesa price consumers simply don't want to pay.

  • Nintendo Has Renewed Some Trademarks
    www.nintendolife.com
Image: Nintendo LifeAs Nintendo gears up for its big Switch 2 Direct broadcast in April, it's still got plenty of other things as well as its day-to-day operations going on behind the scenes. With this in mind, it has recently renewed a few trademarks for its famous 'Seal of Quality' in Japan. The trademarks for these seals reference all sorts of video game-related things from "home video game consoles" to "ROM cartridges storing video game program software".Images: Nintendo (via chizai-watch.com)Nintendo also appears to have renewed a trademark for The Legend of Zelda series covering goods and services (including appliances, food, and medical-related items), and much more. Of course, trademark renewals don't always lead to anything, and for companies like Nintendo, it's often just business as usual when it comes to protecting intellectual properties.Admittedly, the 'Seal of Quality' renewal has already sparked some discussion online - with some fans using this as an opportunity to voice their frustrations about the state of the Switch eShop, which has been overrun by shovelware and supposed "scam games" in recent years.Subscribe to Nintendo Life on YouTube796kWatch on YouTube The rise of "eSlop"A guarantee of quality, or a relic from the past?Fixing what Nintendon'tIf we hear any significant developments or updates, we'll let you know.[source chizai-watch.com, via bsky.app]Share:00 Liam is a news writer and reviewer for Nintendo Life and Pure Xbox.
