• Marvel Just Confirmed Its Killing Off Another Avenger
    www.denofgeek.com
Ragnarok is here for Thor. The God of Thunder will come to an end this May in Immortal Thor #23, written by Al Ewing and illustrated by Jan Bazaldua. At this point, some readers will surely roll their eyes. After all, every Marvel hero has died and come back multiple times, Thor more than most. The concept of death and resurrection is built into the mythological concept, and its not been that long since he last came back in the J. Michael Straczynski run from 2007.But Al Ewing has more than proved himself capable of innovating on well-honed concepts, as demonstrated in Ultimates, X-Men: Red, and especially Immortal Thors forerunner Immortal Hulk. In the same way that Immortal Hulk leaned into the characters horror roots to craft an epic with religious and environmentalist overtones, Immortal Thor contrasts the superhero to his forerunners in Norse mythology.Ewing takes a metatextual approach with Immortal Thor, reimagining Utgard one of the nine realms connected to the world tree Yggdrasil as a sort of plane of Platonic ideals, from which all other things and concepts are derived. Within Utgard dwell five Elder Gods who have existed since the formation of the Earth, including Utgard-Thor and Utgard-Loki.While the conflicts between the Marvel Thor and Loki and the Thor and Loki of Utgard can be read in pure superhero terms, as the familiar characters we know do battle with their older and more powerful counterparts, Ewing also uses the concept to comment on the nature of storytelling itself. As he did in Loki: Agent of Asgard and as Alan Moore and Grant Morrison have done throughout their careers Immortal Thor presents the characters as extensions of a vast cosmic mythology that comes to life through the stories we humans tell one another. What does that mean for Thors death in Immortal Thor #23? Well, first of all, it means that Thor isnt going to die, not for good. Even if we see the end of this version of Thor, which has been hinted at in signs and omens from throughout the series, the Thor concept will live on because we still tell stories about Thor. Within the comic, that might mean a new version of Thor in the form of Magni Thorson, whom Ewing and Bazaldua recently brought back after a twenty-year absence. Or might just be that Thor gets rebooted again, which is what most people expect. And that isnt a bad thing. Immortal Thor is less about reinventing the wheel and more about exploring the concept as it is, revealing the philosophical underpinnings of myths and superheroes. So as much as Marvel tries to hype Immortal Thor #23 as a Death of Superman style event, the fact is that the issue doesnt even mark the end of the series or the storyline on the contrary, it kicks of a three-part arc. Then again, Ewing clearly isnt interested in the usual gimmicks. Thors death will just be one more opportunity to examine the stories we tell one another, stories that repeat without end.Immortal Thor #23 blasts into comic stores on May 14, 2025.Photo: Marvel Comics.

  • LEGO Batman Forever Set Leaks and Rumors: The New 2025 Batmobile
    www.denofgeek.com
LEGO Batman has been going strong for nearly two decades. During the first run of the theme from 2006-2008 and its rebirth in 2012, the Caped Crusader has been a consistent cash cow for the toy company. In fact, despite the rest of LEGOs DC exports, such as Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, fading off into the ether in recent years, Batman has remained a strong player in the pantheon of licensed themes.LEGO has continued to adapt many of the different iterations of Batman into sets throughout the years. Just last year, the group dipped their toes into the Batman: The Animated Series waters for the first time, producing a build of the Gotham City skyline and a separate set of the Batmobile from the show. Other popular incarnations of Batman LEGO has focused heavily on include Robert Pattinsons recent outing, Michael Keatons iconic stint in the Tim Burton films, and, of course, Christopher Nolans lauded The Dark Knight trilogy. Even the ever-so-campy 1960s Adam West show has received multiple LEGO sets. However, one particular era of Batman that has never received the brick-built treatment is the heavily maligned Joel Schumacher films. This may come as no surprise to casual spectators because those movies, Batman Forever (1995) and Batman & Robin (1997), are often found near the bottom of Batman movie rankings. But in recent years, those campier films have been reexamined, and a vocal minority has risen to defend Schumachers efforts.Because of this, and the timely 30th anniversary of Batman Forever looming in June, new leaks from reputable sources on Instagram suggest the first-ever set based on the 1995 film is on the horizon.76304: Batman Forever BatmobileEstimated Release Date: Summer 2025Estimated Price: UnknownWhile the prospect of a LEGO Batman Forever set came as a bit of a shock to brick-building fans, the contents of said set seem to be about as predictable as can be. Thats right, its another Batmobile. There has been no shortage of sets recreating the Dark Knights various rides, with a new Tumbler coming out just this past January. With that said, the Batman Forever Batmobile is no ordinary Batmobile. Schumachers take on the world, for better or for worse, is iconic for its zany, neon-drenched aesthetic. Everything is gloriously over-the-top and not in the gothic manner of Burtons Batman films before it. Eccentric designs for characters, buildings, and, of course, the Batmobile fill the streets of Gotham City in the most outlandish version of the universe ever seen in live-action.The Batman Forever Batmobile epitomizes Schumachers sensibilities. While some trademarks from the Burton Batmobile return, including the back bat wing-shaped fins and the Batman logo on the wheels, the remainder of the vehicle has its own unique flare. The center fuselage of the beast has an almost rib cage-esque design, with a bright blue light glowing behind it. Its significantly different from the hyper-realistic appearances of modern Batmobiles fans are used to from The Batman and The Dark Knight Trilogy.LEGO aficionados will instantly question how the Danish toymaker can capture such an aesthetic. Its a very un-LEGO-like shape, after all. The LEGO master builders certainly have their work cut out for them. Not much else about the set is known at this moment, which is where the fun part begins: speculation.According to the leaks, the build will consist of 909 pieces. For those keeping count, this is less than half the part count of 76328: Batman: The Classic TV Series Batmobile released last fall, but more than double the total of both 76303: Batman Tumbler vs. Two-Face & The Joker and 76274: Batman with the Batmobile vs. Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze. This means 76304s scale will fall somewhere in between these previous Batmobile kits, but just precisely what scale will it be?Join our mailing listGet the best of Den of Geek delivered right to your inbox! The higher piece count suggests this will not be a model fit to hold minifigures, but it also wont be as large as some previous Batmobiles of this nature. However, that does not mean minifigures wont be included, its actually the contrary. Devotees can expect a minifig of Val Kilmers Caped Crusader to be found here; thats almost a given. Every other large-scale Batmobile since LEGO Batmans reboot in 2012 has included its respective Batman as a minifigure, after all. Less likely are side characters from the film, but if LEGO chooses to go down that route, no fans will complain if Tommy Lee Joness Two-Face or Jim Carreys The Riddler shows up.Many aspects of 76304: Batman Forever Batmobile are to be determined, but the excitement level is high among fans who never thought the 1995 film would ever see a LEGO set. And does this mean Batman & Robin will get a set in 2027 for the 30th anniversary of that film? Only time will tell.

  • The Murphy Bed in This Tiny Apartment Lives Rent Free in My Head
    www.housebeautiful.com
This one-bedroom apartment has a lot of things going for it. Its in San Franciscos Bellaire Tower, the iconic Art Deco skyscraper thats also known as the Superman building. That building is set in the very desirable Russian Hill neighborhood, which you may know for Lombard Street, the cable car line, and its incomparable views. However, it was a little short on space for a couple who wanted to use it as their pied--terre. Designer Caitlin Jones Ghajars solve? One of the best Murphy beds weve ever seen. A Murphy bed in a dining room is a new one for me! Jones Ghajar says, laughing.Jones Ghajar also delivered on her clients desire for a colorful aesthetic she describes as accidentally Wes Anderson, drawing on vintage items and a rainbow palette. I encourage people to be brave and really go for it [when it comes to color] because what you end up with is something that feels vibrant and happy, she says. And isnt that what we all want to live in?FAST FACTSDESIGNER: Caitlin Jones Ghajar of Caitlin Jones DesignLOCATION: San Francisco, CaliforniaTHE SPACE: A one-bedroom, one-bathroom apartment with historic bonesBe brave and go for it [when it comes to color] because what you end up with is something that feels vibrant and happy. Isnt that what we all want to live in?EXTERIORThe apartments character outweighed its petite size.Bess FridayThe entrance to Bellaire Tower, a historic Art Deco building completed in 1930.They considered some larger units in newer buildings and decided to prioritize the character and the charm of this building, Jones Ghajar says.ENTRYWAYA creative new layout is much more functional.Bess FridayCeiling light: Vaughan Pershore. Runner: vintage, from Driscoll Robbins. Gallery wall framing: Painters Place. Console: Darren Ransdell Design. Chair: Soane, in Fortuny fabric. To maximize space, Jones Ghajar spent a lot of time going over the flow of the unit. One smart change was reorienting the entryway, which originally led to a weird, underutilized closet. This allowed her to squeeze in a library nook (high on the clients wish list!) and create a seamless flow into the living room. I joke a lot of times that I have a special gift for sticking a 10-pound house in a five-pound bag, she says. The vintage brass table is the first of many brass touches throughout the apartment. The gallery wall displays pieces from the 1920s to the present day, in a nod to all the lives this apartment has lived.DINING AREAA Murphy bed makes this space multifunctional.Bess FridayMurphy bed: fabricated by Thomas Diedrich Cabinets. Paint: Au Contraire, C2 Paint. Pulls: Nanz Hardware. Glasses: from Sue Fisher King. The owners are a married couple with four grown boys, and they want their kids to be able to use the apartment too. This meant that this unit needed to sleep more people. Enter: the Murphy bed.Jones Ghajar and her team concealed the bed behind new custom paneling. It feels more like it has always been there, she says. Art Decoinspired cabinet pulls add some welcome sparkle.LIVING ROOMIts filled with vintage furniture, revived in new fabrics.Bess FridayIt was really important to the client that we use a lot of vintage items to reduce the footprint of the project, Jones Ghajar says. We invested in high-quality pieces and gave them a second life. A vintage George Smith sofa that was re-covered in cobalt blue velvet ties back to the high-gloss cabinetry of the library. The furniture is in a range of colors, but she ensured they have a similar level of saturation so the room still feels very balanced.Bess FridayRug: vintage. Pillow (on sofa): from Sue Fisher King. Floor lamp: Soane. Cocktail table: Maison Ramsay.Bess FridayDrapery hardware: Tuell and Reynolds fromDeSousa Hughes. Pillow: Holland & Sherry. The other notable feature is the lighting, says Jones Ghajar, who says finding interesting fixtures is one of her passions. She pulled a handful of vintage pieces and newer options from brands like The Urban Electric Co. They all feel like jewelry in the space, she says.Bess FridayChandelier: The Urban Electric Co.KITCHENHigh-gloss finishes add to the glamour.Bess FridayPaint: Calypso Green, Benjamin Moore. Hardware: Waterworks. Hanging shelves: Amuneal. Refrigerator: Miele. Wood panels: custom, Light Wave Laser. Ceiling lights: The Urban Electric Co.Its a fully functioning kitchen with a cooktop and all of that, Jones Ghajar says, but it really was about having tea in the afternoon and a cocktail before you go out for dinner. To give it the upscale feel of a fancy hotel bar, the designer lacquered the cabinets in an opulent emerald green. The fan motif refrigerator panel and tile reference the buildings Art Deco design.BEDROOMThe view called for an equally show-stopping wallpaper.Bess Friday Nothing is more accidentally Wes Anderson than this trim and wallpaper combination, Jones Ghajar says. We knew we wanted a hand-painted wallpaper and just fell in love with this one. The Gracie design is completely customizable, and Jones Ghajar and her team picked every single color in it. This particular kind of blue lends itself really well to the vistas that are beyond, so you get some Bay view looks, she adds. And having a little bit of that green undertone in the blue paper really lends itself well to translating to those views beyond. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge.Bess FridayWallpaper: Gracie. Trim paint: Ella, C2 Paint. Cabinet: Chairish.Bess FridayLamp: The Future Perfect. Drapery Hardware: Houles. Drapery fabric and trim: Scalamandre. Chair fabric: Zoffany. The old walls had recesses that made wallpapering a challenge. We had to be meticulous with the measuring and execution, the designer says. We created detailed elevations of every wall to ensure the birds and other elements were perfectly placed.BATHROOMThey wanted to keep the original character intact.Bess FridayNew tile: Latch Tile. Plumbing: Waterworks. Sconces: Original BTC. Roman shade: custom, in Timorous Beasties fabric. Mirror: custom, by Painters Place, in Farrow & Ball Brassica.Preserving the original bathroom tileand making it work in a modern schemewas another challenge. We wanted to tie it in beautifully to everything thats happening elsewhere in the apartment, Jones Ghajar says. It took some legwork to find the exact right color tile to replace original ones that had cracked. To balance the green, she reached for an unexpected choice: lilac. She drenched the walls and ceiling in it and even had a mirror made to match. It works: The purple balances out the green and picks up colors in the bedroom, the rest of the apartment, and beyond, in the city. • Gurman: Foldable iPhone and another new iPhone design coming in 2026
    9to5mac.com
The iPhone 16e just launched, but Apple has four more iPhone models launching this fallincluding the ultra-thin iPhone 17 Air. But per Mark Gurman, 2026 may be even bigger for the iPhone thanks to two brand new designs in the works: a foldable and another mysterious new design.Next years iPhone lineup could bring two brand new designsThis weekend in his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman detailed Apples current iPhone plans for this year and next. And its what he shared about next year that was especially interesting.Gurman writes at Bloomberg:[Apple is] readying a skinnier iPhone for later this year and focused on finishing up development of its first foldable device for 2026. Theres also another new iPhone design in the works for that year, Im told. There are two significant details worth noting here:Apples foldable iPhone is still expected for 2026 and nearing the end of developmentand also, a second iPhone next year will come with a new designThis is the first weve heard of two new iPhone designs in 2026.Its especially surprising, too, since Apple plans to launch the new 17 Air design this year, plus some noteworthy design changes to the iPhone 17 Pro models.Gurman doesnt go into any details on this second new iPhone design, but it will be fascinating to see what Apples plans are as more information is revealed in the future.Perhaps the base model iPhone 18 will get that new design, since its the only model not changing much in the iPhone 17 lineup. Then again, Gurmans wording seems to hint at something more substantial than a base model revision.Apples 2026 iPhone lineup is still a ways off, but these rumors definitely seem to support recent teases from CEO Tim Cook and hardware chief John Ternus that their iPhone roadmap is more ambitious than ever. What do you think this mystery new iPhone design in 2026 might be? • Heres the complete iPhone 17 line-up according to three high-profile leakers
    9to5mac.com
While there have been some differences of opinion between leakers in the past, three high-profile ones have all endorsed the same CAD drawing of the complete iPhone 17 line-up.The drawing shows the three completely different camera layouts expected for the base iPhone 17, the iPhone 17 Air, and the two iPhone 17 Pro models Three high-profile leakers agreeMajin Bu has been the source of a number of accurate leaks in the past, most recently the naming of the iPhone 16e. Bu was the first to report this, in early January. In a new tweet, they post the drawing with a simple iPhone 17 Lineup CAD caption. Fixed Focus Digital endorses this, as does i Ice Universe, who shared the image. We should immediately caution that, even if accurate (as now seems likely), CAD drawings do not give an accurate render of the appearance of the devices, only the placement of external elements like camera lenses and buttons. For example, if we put the CAD drawing of the iPhone 17 Pro Max side-by-side with Sonny Dicksons latest render of what that design layout might look like in real life, we can see just how much you can and cant tell from the former.Notably, we can see the positions of the flash and LiDAR sensor on the right, but theres insufficient detail to tell whether the entire camera module is raised or, as Dickson suggests, split into two separate bumps.Additionally, the red area is not indicative of any visible element.Weve also previously seen more accurate ideas of what the iPhone 17 Air design might look like in real life:Three different camera modulesWhat we can see in the drawings are three different camera modules, left to right:iPhone 17 Air, with single camera in a horizontal bumpBase iPhone 17 with two cameras in a vertical bumpiPhone 17 Pro Max with three cameras in a triangular arrangementiPhone 17 Pro with the same layoutThat does look kind of messy when we see them side-by-side like that, though wed of course expect the case finishes to provide a much more coherent look. You can check out our latest coverage on the line-up and on each model below:Add 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Apples $500 Billion AI Investment to Create 20,000 Tech Jobs
    www.informationweek.com
Shane Snider, Senior Writer, InformationWeekFebruary 24, 20253 Min ReadLuay Bahoora via Alamy StockApple on Monday announced a plan to spend $500 billion to bolster its artificial intelligence ambitions that will add 20,000 research and development jobs in the US over the next four years. The plan will include the expansion of data center facilities in Michigan, Texas, California, Arizona, Nevada, Iowa, Oregon, North Carolina, and Washington. The company, with the help of Taiwans Foxconn, will build a 250,000-square-foot facility in Houston, Texas to manufacture AI servers to support Apple Intelligence.US President Donald Trump sought to claim the announcement as a boost to his administration, which in recent days saw falling approval ratings after a whirlwind start to his second term that included thousands of federal government firings. Trump met with Apple CEO Tim Cook last week and in social media posts touted Mondays announcement as a vote of confidence in his administration.During an event with state governors in Washington, D.C., last week, Trump said Apples investment was proof that his tariff efforts are paying off. Apple manufactures many of its products in China and faces new 10% tariffs on those goods. [Apple] stopped two plants in Mexico that were starting construction, Trump said. They just stopped them -- theyre going to build them here instead, because they dont want to pay the tariffs. Tariffs are amazing.Related:Despite Trump's assertions, Apple did not state if the proposed tariffs factored into its plans. It's also unclear what "plants" Trump was referring to, as Apple has not announced specific plans to build in Mexico. Reports say Foxconn, which produces iPhones for Apple in China and India, is planning to build a factory in Mexico in partnership with Nvidia. In 2021, during the Biden Administration, Apple made a $430 billion commitment to creating 20,000 new jobs across the country over five years. But its plan to build a new campus in Research Triangle Park in North Carolina was paused in 2024. And during the first Trump administration, Apple announced a $350 billion, five-year spending plan. Apple has not publicly disclosed how much of those previous commitments were fulfilled.Cook said Apple is committed to boosting domestic manufacturing. We are bullish on the future of American innovation and were proud to build on our long-standing US investments with this $500 billion commitment to our countrys future, Cook said in a statement. He said the company would double its Advanced Manufacturing Fund, which invests in training for high-skilled manufacturing.Related:Apple said the 20,000 jobs will add to the 2.9 million jobs the company already supports throughout the country through direct employment, work with US-based suppliers and manufacturers, and developer jobs. The new positions will focus on research and development, software development, silicon engineering, and AI and machine learning advancements. This is a welcome sign as Apple steps up to design its manufacturing infrastructure for the intelligent age, Boston University Questrom School of Business professor emeritus Venkat Venkatraman wrote in a post on LinkedIn. Could this help Apple get into a broader set of digital products? Possibly. It also signals a major geographical realignment of its global footprint (and political realities)!Plan DetailsThe announced Texas manufacturing facility is slated to open in 2026 and will produce AI servers previously manufactured outside of the US.The companys US Advanced Manufacturing Fund, which was created in 2017 to spur high-skilled manufacturing training and support innovation, will increase from $5 billion to $10 billion. The expanded effort includes a multibillion-dollar commitment from Apple to produce advanced silicon in TSMCs Arizona plant. In Detroit, the company will launch the Apple Manufacturing Academy to offer free in-person and online courses to teach project management and manufacturing process optimization, and other smart manufacturing techniques.Related:About the AuthorShane SniderSenior Writer, InformationWeekShane Snider is a veteran journalist with more than 20 years of industry experience. In our latestCaptain America video, we answer all your questions about the film, and do our best to explain how many of its potential plot holes are not plot holes at all. • ZHA imagines new exhibition and convention centre as "ribbons" in Beijing
    worldarchitecture.org
html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"A group of bridges, envisioned as ribbons, connect the exhibition halls, conference centre and hotel forming the central courtyards, guiding a fluid interior circulation in the new exhibition and convention centre, designed by Zaha Hadid Architects.Named Capital International Exhibition & Convention Center (CIECC), the new project has expanded Beijing's existing exhibition venue to over 611,000 squares meters. The program of the complex consists of nine new exhibition halls as well as three new reception halls, a 9,000-delegate conference centre for 9,000 delegates and a 410-room hotel.Described as "Beijings largest and most advanced exhibition and convention venue", the new venue is distinguished by its curved and fluid geometry, which propels active circulation and programmatic distribution. The central north-south axis of the CIECC, which is situated on Line 15 of the Beijing Subway network in the Shunyi District of the city, next to Capital International Airport, acts as the primary connector between the nine exhibition halls. It offers maximum flexibility and efficiency, clear navigation, and a central courtyard and gathering spot surrounded by landscaped gardens and covered outdoor event spaces.A new public square for events and exhibitions is defined by the hotel and conference center to the north of the site.Three separate routes are used for the flow of people, products, and automobiles across the CIECC in order to facilitate circulation, offer the best flexibility, and prevent interference with various concurrent events. An insulated, lightweight, large-span structure with column-free spaces that can be quickly modified to accommodate changing exhibitions and uses is produced by the CIECC's composite roof system of symmetric geometries. The center's development time, investment, and operating expenses were reduced because to its modular manufacture and construction. The CIECC's enormous industrial scale and materiality are balanced by the center's pleated, deep copper-colored faade and fluid architectural language, which includes huge, recessed windows. The center combines smart building management systems with hybrid ventilation to achieve the highest accreditation of China's Green Building Program. This ensures optimal natural ventilation supplemented by high-efficiency HVAC equipment to improve indoor air quality and reduce energy consumption. The city's municipal supply will require less water and energy thanks to rainwater collecting across CIECC's vast footprint, grey water recycling, and photovoltaics for on-site energy generation.Site planExhibition plan - Level 2Conference plan - Level 1Hotel plan - Level 1Hotel Plan, typical-level 5-6Enlarged Hotel Plan-Level 2Exhibition Center, ElevationConference Center, ElevationHotel ElevationsExhibition sectionsConference Center sectionsHotel sectionZaha Hadid Architects won a design competition to build the second phase of the International Exhibition Centre in Beijing, China in 2021.
