Lume Haus is a family office located on the terrace of a commercial building. This home-like office is a flexible space for meetings, discussions, and official get-togethers.Save this picture!Save this picture! The cumulative building footprint continues to grow rampantly in India's landscape. Every moment, we lose a natural ground cover to concrete plinths that lay the foundation for a 'glorious' building to satisfy the growing needs of the human population. As a young Architecture and Design practice that we are, we struggle in the grey area, with a constant dilemma about how we can contribute positively to this paradox of living. When the opportunity presented itself to us, to design an office space on the rooftop of an existing commercial building, we came upon a moment of sigh! A chance to design a building on an existing building a temporary shelter within which there will be a place of work.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! Our design is such that it is merely a building upon an already existing building, that may be dismantled and moved elsewhere if the need arises. It is the peace of mind and balance that this idea brings to the soul that translates into the zen, natural, and meditative mood of the space.Save this picture! The composition of the temporary structure is as such an Aluminum grid clad with dark stained birch wood, held in place by recycled teak wood beading. We made a conscious decision not to use industrial-grade glue to bind the materials, we used steel nails hidden within the teak wood beading to keep the birch wood in place and the walls temporary in nature. The ceiling is natural green building-certified acoustic panels.Save this picture!Save this picture! With regard to the furniture, it is a combination of bespoke Studio Prakruthi objects and Danish classics. The furniture we design for each project is limited edition pieces, made specifically for the project and the client making them one-of-a-kind objects. The black-stained Sycamore and birch plywood executive desks, and marble top coffee tables inspired by mid-century aesthetics are some of the bespoke furniture that was made for this space.Save this picture!"In totality, there is a comforting repetition in the space, almost like breathing again and again. This draws parallel to the idea of finding success in relentless practice and consistency, what in essence is the philosophy I live by" by the architect.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessProject locationAddress:Sankey road, Abshot layout, Vasanth Nagar, Bengaluru, Karnataka 560052, IndiaLocation to be used only as a reference. • Lenovo is updating its ThinkPad lineup with new chips and form factors at MWC 2025
    www.engadget.com
Lenovo is showing business laptops lovers some attention by announcing several new ThinkPads at Mobile World Congress 2025, including a new form factor for the T-series line, and updated internals across the business laptop lineup. The ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1 is by far the most interesting of the bunch, with a new convertible body that's similar to Lenovo's Yoga laptops, and supports the magnetic Yoga Pen stylus. The laptop comes with up to a 14-inch, 400-nit WUXGA touch display, and inside, you can get up to a Intel Core Ultra 7 H or U 200 series chip, 64GB of LPDDR5x RAM and 1TB of storage. If you're looking for an option without a 360-degree hinge, the ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 and ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 will also now come with either Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI Pro chips, up to 32GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage.LenovoLenovo describes the new ThinkPad X13 Gen 6 as "one of the lightest ThinkPad designs ever," at only 2.05 lbs, but that light weight doesn't mean the laptop misses out on the latest internals. The X13 Gen 6 comes with either a Intel Core Ultra or AMD Ryzen AI Pro chip, up to 64GB of LPDDR5x RAM and your choice of a 41Wh or 54.7Wh battery. The new ThinkPad can also support Wi-Fi 7 and an optional 5G connection, if you want to take it on the go.Chip updates round out the remaining ThinkPads, with the ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 and E16 Gen 3 gaining support for up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 U or H 200 series chip and up to 64GB of DDR5 RAM, while the ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 is caps out at 32GB of RAM.Lenovo is making the majority of its new ThinkPads available this summer, with the ThinkPad T14s 2-in-1, ThinkPad T14s Gen 6 and ThinkPad X13 Gen 6 arriving in June 2025 for $1,719, $1,674 and $1,139, respectively. The ThinkPad T14 Gen 6 and ThinkPad T16 Gen 4 are launching a little earlier in May for $1,359 and $1,623. And rounding things out, the ThinkPad E14 Gen 7 and E16 Gen 3 are coming in "Q2 2025" for $849 and $859.This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/computing/laptops/lenovo-is-updating-its-thinkpad-lineup-with-new-chips-and-form-factors-at-mwc-2025-230055977.html?src=rss

  • Lenovos codename Flip is another wild take on a flexible-screen laptop
    www.engadget.com
Lenovo hasnt even released its futuristic laptop with a rollable screen. But that hasnt stopped the company from taking that notebooks core components and remixing it into a whole new thing at MWC 2025.Officially called the ThinkBook codename Flip AI PC Proof of concept (yes, that is its official name and its a real mouthful), the laptop uses the same flexible OLED featured in its rollable sibling, except this time instead of disappearing inside its chassis, the display folds outwards. This allows what is normally a 13-inch panel to double in size to 18.1 inches at a moment's notice. Notably, because the Flips screen bends instead of sliding in and out of the bottom half of the system, Lenovo can utilize the panels full area unlike the ThinkBook Rollable, which can only extend up to 16.7 inches. In its vertical mode, this provides a ton of extra space for documents or multitasking. However, the screen can also be folded back into tablet mode or something akin to a 2-in-1s tent mode for times when you might want to share your display with someone on the other side of the table.Sam Rutherford for EngadgetSomewhat impressively, a fancy monitor isnt the only trick the Flip has. Down below, Lenovo created what it calls a Smart ForcePad, which features a three-layer illuminated dashboard that adds customizable controls and icons to its surface. Its a neat trick that expands what a basic touchpad can do, though its not exactly a huge leap from what weve seen on rival machines from Acer and others. Finally, on the inside, the Flip should have solid performance thanks to the inclusion of an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor, 32GB of RAM and PCIe SSD storage. As a fan of anything with a flexible screen, its fascinating to see how quickly Lenovo was able to take the components used in the ThinkBook Plus Gen6 Rollable and turn them into something else. That said, as this was a very early prototype (a Lenovo representative said it was only one of two in the world at the time), there are some obvious issues that need to be ironed out before this thing ever gets close to an official release. The first is that for a system with a screen this tall, its hinge wasnt fully up to the task of keeping everything stable, as even a light tap would cause the whole panel to sway back and forth in a disconcerting way. The model I used also lacked that kickstand that appears in some of Lenovos promotional images, which would have further increased its sturdiness. However, the biggest potential problem with the Flip may be difficult to address because its inherent to its core design. When the laptop is collapsed down into a clamshell for traveling, the way its screen folds exposes the flexible display to items that might scratch it. And while its possible to get around this by using a form-fitting laptop sleeve, that seems a bit too dangerous, even for someone like me whos been using foldable phones for half a decade. Upon further consideration, I wouldnt be surprised if this design challenge is a big reason Lenovo decided to bring the ThinkBook Rollable to market instead of the Flip.Currently, Lenovo has no plans to bring the Flip to full production, but even so, its nice seeing what a company can come up with when it's not scared to show off unfinished devices. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/computing/laptops/lenovos-codename-flip-is-another-wild-take-on-a-flexible-screen-laptop-230051495.html?src=rss

  • Seaside Pavilion Blends Tradition & Innovation Transforming A Chinese Fishing Village Into A Cultural HUb
    www.yankodesign.com
Designed by GN Architects, the Seaside Pavilion is the winning design in the Hello, Island competition. This pavilion, now gracing Chaishan Island, symbolizes the regions rejuvenation. The island once housed a vibrant fishing community, but now the population includes less than 100 elderly residents,as many have relocated to urban centers. In response, the Zhoushan Government initiated the Hello, Island project to transform Chaishan into a center for art, design, and culture. The pavilions design seeks to offer a romantic touch to the islands simple and serene lifestyle, creating a destination that is both functional and poetic. Drawing inspiration from traditional Chinese village gateways, where large trees signify gathering places, the pavilion establishes a welcoming sense of arrival and fosters a sense of community.Designer: GN ArchitectsThis unique design attempts to evoke a powerful sense of arrival at the islands gateway, enriching the villages ambiance and crafting a unique identity. At first, the concept harnessed tidal movements to create motion, allowing visitors seated in the pavilion to experience the gentle rise and fall of the waves and structure over time. But to better cater to the primary audience, tourists, the design was altered to utilize wind power for immediate visual effects. The team has also refined the structures form to make these changes more prominent. Following several site surveys, the ideal location was selected a disused cargo pier from the 1960s, nestled between the new passenger terminal and the village. The site is quite perfect as it is blessed with jagged rock formations and a background of blue skies and sea.The design showcases long, slender blades hanging from a sturdy frame, gracefully swaying in the sea breeze and moving in sync with the waves. This imaginative yet functional design brings the old pier to life by making some necessary repairs and installing new railings, thereby transforming it into a welcoming space for the islands elderly to gather and relax. The Seaside Pavilion evokes the image of white feathers dancing in the wind, serving as a symbolic tribute to the island. This installation embodies two core ideas it serves as a psychological landmark called the Long Pavilion, defining its location and spatial structure. Secondly, as a fusion of poetic realism called The Feather of Chaishan, it shapes its distinct aesthetic. The Seaside Pavilion was prefabricated and transported to the island, featuring 36 blades, each seven meters long, grouped in sets of three. Computer simulations precisely determined each blades initial position, balancing weights for optimal movement. Each blade connects to the main support via a bearing, with a counterweight block at the tail to adjust balance. To prevent collisions, linkages and limiters are installed between the blades. After considering various options like flexible springs and hydraulic buffers, rubber was selected for its simplicity and resistance to UV and corrosion. The coastal installation uses corrosion-resistant steel with anti-rust coatings. The blades use high-strength fishing ropes for enhanced durability and wind resistance. The blades gently sway in a breeze and move noticeably in stronger winds. During a typhoon, they can be securely tied to the frame for protection. The post Seaside Pavilion Blends Tradition & Innovation Transforming A Chinese Fishing Village Into A Cultural HUb first appeared on Yanko Design.
