    archinect.com
Nonprofits The Pew Charitable Trusts andCenter for Building in North America havereleased a report in support of single-stair apartment building designs made using data to provide a snapshot of their building safety performance and ability to reduce construction costs in the hopes of addressing housing shortfalls as fewer and fewer small and medium-size designs are being built across the country. The report finds that single-stair buildings can help architects achieve a better variety of configurations, contort to irregular-shaped lots, improve ventilation, and increase the amount of natural light that flows inside. This applies to buildings of between three to six stories. In January, we covered the rise of the reform movement and its quest to make building codes across the United States better resemble European models. It follows previous research on building codes and point access block buildings published last year by the Center for Building. • Death Stranding 2: On the Beach Will Feature Asynchronous Multiplayer Like the Original
    gamingbolt.com
Sony and Kojima Productions have revealed more details about the upcoming Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Thanks to an update to the games PlayStation Store listing, we now know that, among other things, it will also feature the asynchronous multiplayer features that were present in the original Death Stranding.Labelled social strand gameplay, the games store listing mentions that a players actions can affect other players in the games world. If the first Death Stranding is any indication, this means that players will be able to make use of, for example, a ladder or climbing rope left behind by another player who has been through the area. Players will not need a subscription to PlayStation Plus to make use of these online features.Other features in the listing describe Death Stranding 2: On the Beach as featuring a unique and explorable world, exciting and adaptable combat, and compelling story and characters.Sam with companions by his side sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction, says the games description. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: Should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again. This update to the PlayStation Store page for Death Stranding 2: On the Beach comes just a week before more details about the title are set to be revealed. Back in February, Sony and Kojima Productions had announced that there will be a special panel about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach during the upcoming SXSW 2025 on March 9.While we dont know exactly what will be revealed during the panel, we expect the trailer that Kojima has been posting about editing on social media platforms will likely be debuted there. The trailer is also expected to reveal the games release date.Speaking of the trailer, Kojima recently revealed that it was in the final stages of editing. In the same post, Kojima also explained his process for editing trailers, with each being structured around a specific idea. The upcoming trailer apparently revolves around the music. The initial cut, arranged intuitively based on the sound, is then refined through a more analytical approach, adjusting for narrative flow, misdirection, and transitions, posted Kojima. While work on the trailer has been ongoing, Kojima has also been announcing when the studio has wrapped up work with specific actors. Most recently, he posted about wrapping up work with Kenjiro Tsuda, Nana Mizuki, Tomokazu Sugita, Shion Wakayama, Akihiko Ishizumi, and Mitsuru Miyamoto for a scene that involved all six interacting with each other. He also stated in the same post that, while the work with these actors was finished, there was still plenty more work around Japanese voice recording left to be done.A short scene from the upcoming trailer was shown off earlier by Kojima. The scene, involving protagonist Sam Porter Bridges and Fragile, had the characters discussing meeting someone face-to-face for the first time.Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is being developed for PS5. If its predecessor is anything to go by, the game will also likely see a PC release down the line.

  • Twisted Metal Reboot Would Have Been a Battle Royale With Third-Person Action and Vehicular Combat Rumour
    gamingbolt.com
While a rumoured reboot of the Twisted Metal franchise has been believed to be cancelled for over a year at this point, a new report indicates that the title would have been a massive departure in gameplay from its predecessor. According to Mp1st, a UI programmer on the cancelled project described the game he worked on as Project Copper.Among the details revealed through the programmers description of the title is the fact that it was a classic PlayStation IP, which would indicate that it was indeed a Twisted Metal game, as well as the fact that it would feature third-person combat alongside the franchises traditional vehicle-based combat. The title was also seemingly being developed using Unreal Engine 5.The programmer also showed off a few blurry screenshots of the pre-release version of the game with a prominent Under NDA watermark on top, that revealed that there would indeed be on-foot action as well. The description for the title said that the primary objective was to be the last one standing, which would indicate that it would have been a battle royale game.Reports of the game being cancelled came about back in February 2024 alongside layoffs that affected around 900 employees throughout Sonys studios. The same layoffs also affected major studios like Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog and Guerrilla Games alongside Firesprite. While the Twisted Metal reboot was believed to have been originally under development by Lucid Games the studio behind Destruction AllStars a job listing discovered back in February 2023 indicated that Firespirte was handling development of the title.Twisted Metals reboot was believed to have been a live-service game, likely under PlayStations push to release more multiplayer live-service titles a few years ago. Since then, however, PlayStation has seemingly backed off on the idea, with rumours indicating that several in-development live-service games had been cancelled.Last year saw the release of Concord, which failed hard enough that the game ultimately had its servers shut down within less than a month of its launch. Its failure has reportedly been a pretty big deal at PlayStations studios, with developer Firewalk Studios being shut down, and other in-development projects also having been rumoured to cease development in its wake.Among the list of cancelled live-service projects at PlayStations studios include The Last of Us Online, and even a multiplayer component for Marvels Spider-Man.Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida also spoke about this push for live-service games, saying that he would have pushed back against this focus at PlayStation. He spoke about how Sony should have continued to focus on its single player story-centric games that have been critically and commercially successful.I was managing this annual budget and was responsible for allocating resources to what kind of games to make, said Yoshida in an interview back in January after leaving Sony. If the company is considering that way, it probably wouldnt have made sense to stop making another God of War or whatever, like a great single-player game, and put all the money into these service games.Currently, the only live-service success story at Sony has been Helldivers 2, which is available on PC and PS5.

  • YouTube is stepping up its efforts to sell you other streaming services
    www.theverge.com
YouTube is preparing a big redesign of its TV app that will make it look more like Netflix, according to a report from The Information. The new design, which is expected to launch in the next few months, will reportedly display paid content from various streaming services on the homepage.YouTube currently lets you explore shows and movies from services like Paramount Plus, Max, and Crunchyroll as part of the Primetime Channels feature it rolled out in 2022. Similar to the setup on Amazons Prime Video, you can select and subscribe to these third-party services through YouTube, all while the platform gets a cut of the payment. However, you can only access this content through the Movies and TV tab of the YouTube app, which The Information says makes it harder for users to find. YouTube also reportedly stopped adding new services to its Primetime offering as it struggled with integrating paid content into its homepage. But now, the company aims to solve this by putting paid subscriptions on the apps homepage. It will also give creators the ability to display their videos in seasons something it already started letting creators do on their channels as well as play previews of shows automatically, The Information reports. The vision is that when you come to our [TV] app and youre looking for a show, itll just blend away whether that show is from a Primetime Channel or that show is from a creator, Kurt Wilms, YouTubes senior director of product management, told The Information. The company has made some notable design tweaks to its TV app over the past year, and announced last month that TVs have become the primary device people use to watch YouTube.

  • Shrek 5's New Look Is So Divisive, Even Movie Sonic Has Commented On It
    www.ign.com
Shrek 5 has unveiled its all-new cast with a brand-new teaser trailer, and even Movie Sonic's not sure what to make of Shrek's new look.In a self-deprecating video posted to TikTok, the Sonic Movie account had "advice for green ogres," showing Movie Sonic's glow up from his infamous original live-action design to the revised one shared several months later.IGN had the exclusive first look at the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie back in 2018, and feedback was... well, mixed, to say the least, with fans fascinated by the character's teeth, physique, teeny eyes, and strangely human fingers.Following the backlash, director Jeff Fowler decided to change the controversial design of the iconic character, promising a more authentic look. The redesign was much better received. While admittedly, the feedback on Shrek's new look isn't quite as polarising as Sonic's first live-action outing, Sonic's cheeky response has amused his fans nonetheless. "You know it's bad when you see the Sonic Movie account giving Shrek 5 advice," posted one commenter, whilse another said: "No way they actually posted this" with a crying emoji.PlayThe fifth Shrek movie was originally announced in 2016 but went quiet for years until Chris Meledandri, CEO of animation studio Illumination, announced its active development in 2023 alongside hopes for a Donkey spin-off. Universal Pictures delayed Shrek 5's release by a few months to December 23, 2026, while putting Despicable 3 spin-off Minions 3 in its original slot.
