• Tiana show no longer coming to Disney Plus
    www.polygon.com
The long-awaited Princess and the Frog television show has officially been canceled, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The Tiana show was first announced back in 2020, alongside the Moana show. While the Moana show got retooled into a full theatrical sequel, the Tiana show got pushed multiple times, before being taken off the upcoming calendar entirely. Despite Disney Imagineers talking about how the new show would tie into the new Tianas Bayou Adventure attraction at Disney World (formerly known as Splash Mountain) last summer, it seems that the show is officially dead.According to the Hollywood Reporter, Disney is undergoing a shift in streaming strategy and moving away from longform content on Disney Plus. The Tiana show is allegedly getting retooled into a shortform special, whatever that means. Joyce Sherri, the most recent showrunner on the Tiana show, is set to direct and write.Even though Splash Mountains whole big revamp was specifically designed around Tiana, Disneys love for The Princess and the Frog only really sparked recently. From the time the movie came out in 2009 to 2020, it wasnt as beloved by the company as some other more popular titles, like Frozen and Moana. Disneys spotlight on Tiana only really picked up after the company announced that it would be replacing Splash Mountain with a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction. It was a call that came after many petitions to do so picked up traction during the 2020 Black Lives Matters protests, but a call Disney swears it had planned ahead of time. There is no word on when the retooled Tiana shortform special will hit Disney Plus, or if it even will.

  • What is affinity in Monster Hunter Wilds?
    www.polygon.com
Affinity is a term you will no doubt have noticed with your weapons in Monster Hunter Wilds. Its an important stat for your weapon that has existed in previous Monsters Hunter but isnt fully explained. (In fact, in earlier games that displayed no damage numbers, it was probably even harder to discern what it does than in Wilds.)This guide will explain the role that affinity plays in Monster Hunter Wilds, what negative affinity does, and how you can increase your affinity. What is affinity in Monster Hunter Wilds, and what does affinity do?Affinity essentially means critical chance in Monster Hunter Wilds the chance, in other words, you have for your attacks to land a hit that deals more raw damage than usual. When you first start, your baseline affinity will be 0%, which means you will not deal critical hits. But if you forge a new weapon that has an affinity of 5%, that means you have a 5% chance for an attack to register as a critical hit.A critical hit will deal an additional 25% of raw damage, which might be difficult to parse in the middle of a hunt. But if you pay attention to the damage numbers, a critical hit will not only have a higher number but a tiny pink star icon will also display above it (as shown in the screenshot above). What is negative affinity in Monster Hunter Wilds? Its also possible to have weapons with a negative affinity value. Rather than lowering the chance of dealing critical hits (because 0% is already as low as it can go), negative affinity means there is a chance that you might deal 25% less raw damage than normal. This will be denoted by a tiny blue star icon displayed under the damage number (as shown in the screenshot above). In other words, if we are to say that a weapon usually deals 100% damage, a critical hit will deal 125% damage while a hit affected by negative affinity will deal 75% damage. In theory, if youre looking to deal as much damage as efficiently as possible, you should be wary of any weapon with negative affinity. However, if youre in a position to forge a weapon that has much higher attack power than the one youve currently equipped, then its still technically an upgrade, with the chance that its not always optimal. You might also find that a weapon with negative affinity but high elemental stats could be beneficial if youre hunting a monster that is weak to that element (like Doshaguma being weak to fire and thunder or Lala Barina being weak to fire). As affinity only affects your raw damage, this will not have an effect on the elemental component of the attack. How to increase your affinity in Monster Hunter WildsYou can increase your affinity in Monster Hunter Wilds depending on the armor, charms, or decorations you have equipped. Some skills may raise the affinity overall while others might increase your affinity based on the situation. For instance, Critical Draw hugely increases your affinity when you perform a weapon draw attack. In other words, dont be dismayed if your favorite weapon has negative affinity, as with the right combination of gear, its possible to not only mitigate the negative impacts but change it into a weapon with positive affinity. It is also possible to increase the damage bonus of a critical attack above 25%, although as of this writing, the only skill that does so is Critical Boost. To get the most out of combat in Monster Hunter Wilds, learn how to mount, create wounds, capture monsters, cut tails and get fangs, and work around the your item pouch is full warning.

  • Youll Soon Be Able to Send Video and Screenshares to Googles Gemini AI
    lifehacker.com
As part of Mobile World Congress, happening this week in Barcelona, Google has teased that its Gemini AI is finally ready to see the world. Literally.Originally teased as Project Astra in May of last year, Googles Gemini Live with Video and Gemini Live with Screenshare features each have a new trailer, showing how the search giant plans to catch up with ChatGPTs Advanced Voice Mode. Soon, Google One AI Premium subscribers will be able to share their phone screens and real-time video with Gemini, which the chatbot will then be able to use to answer questions. ChatGPTs Advanced Voice Mode got these features late last year, but it also requires you to shell out at least $20/month for a ChatGPT Plus subscription. While a Google One AI Premium plan is priced identically, it also throws in 2TB of storage for your Drive and Gmail accounts, so depending on your needs, it could be the better pick for you. In the trailers, Google shows users accessing Gemini Live via the Gemini phone app to open a real-time conversation with the AI, then tapping either a video or screen sharing button at the bottom of the screen to get started. In the Gemini Live with Video demo, we see someone showing the chatbot some vases theyve just fired as well as some glaze swatches and asking for advice on which one to choose. In the Screenshare demo, the chatbot instead looks at a store listing for a pair of jeans and gives advice on which type of clothes to pair with them.Id love to meet the type of person who would go through all of the effort of spinning and firing a vase without knowing what color to glaze it, but the point is clear. Gemini will soon be able to use real-time video and screen captures as input when answering prompts.Unfortunately, Google hasnt yet said much more than that. When Project Astra was originally teased, it boasted such impressive (and creepy) abilities as being able to tell where you live just by looking out the window. These trailers seem significantly scaled back in comparison, but they're also clearly just short demos. Im curious to see how the feature actually functions once users get their hands on it, which Google says will happen later this month.

  • Five Easy Ways to Make Your Old Car Look New(er)
    lifehacker.com
We may earn a commission from links on this page.On average, the number of years people hold onto their cars has been creeping up for about a decadeit's up to about 14 years these days. Aside from improved reliability, given that new cars average $49,740, and used cars cost more than $26,000, it's not hard to figure out why. If your car still runs well and reliably gets you where you need to go, thats all that really matters. That said, you probably don't want your car to look it's age. Time takes a toll on every vehicle, from sun damage to chips and scratches in the paint, and eventually even a car thats been maintained to perfection will start to show its years. If you want to make your car look as good as it still runs without investing in a full detailing, there are a few tricks you can try it in an afternoon, without spending a lot of money. Try a clay bar polishStep one is, of course, to give your car a thorough washing. But once the car is clean and dry, you can use a clay bar treatment to remove the stuff you cant get off with a simple wash. Clay bars remove all the tiny bits of grit, sticky bits of tar, and other contaminants that make paint look dull. (For some extra oomph, follow up with another wash and then polish your car using a high-quality polish (either by hand or using a power tool).Remove scratches with a power toolA scratched-up finish adds years to any car, but scratches can also allow moisture to infiltrate under the topcoat, encouraging rust and other visual damage. Repairing those visible scratches is the logical next step. For relatively shallow scratches, you can use a scratch removing product like this one. Just apply some of the product to the provided pad, slip the pad into your power drill, and run the pad over the scratch a few times. Once you wipe away the excess, the scratch should be gone (if you dont have a drill or dont want to use one, there are other products rely on muscle power alone).Deeper scratches require a lot more effortincluding sanding, filling, and repaintingand may be better left to a detail shop, unless you don't care about imperfect results.Restore plastic trim with a heat gunYour car's plastic exterior trim can start to show wear after years of exposure to the sun and harsh weather. Unless you restore the plastic, of course. There are two ways to accomplish this:Use a heat gun. You can use a heat gun to heat the plastic, and watch as it darkens and shines up like magic. This works because the heat brings the remaining oils in the plastic to the surface. There are two downsides to this approach, however: Its easy to overdo it and actually melt the plastic, and it will only work a few times before your plastic has been bled dry and can never be restored again.Buy a product intended for the purpose. If you're wary of taking a heat gun to your ride, there are store bought options for car trim restoration. Something like Wipe New is easy to useyou just wipe it onand can last a few weeks to a few months. They can be applied repeatedly to keep your trim looking newer.Use a power scrubber on your rimsCleaning and polishing your tires and rims will also help your car to look new(er). A spray-on cleaner applied with a power scrubber can bring your rims back to life with a little elbow grease. A tire coating like this one can also put some shine back into your tires.Polish your headlights with toothpasteFinally, one spot older cars always suffer is the headlights, which can become cloudy and faded over time. You could rip them out and replace them, of course, but cleaning them up is a lot cheaper and works surprisingly well. You can DIY this in a variety of ways by scrubbing your headlights with toothpaste, a mixture of vinegar and baking soda, even sandpaper. Or you could make your life a little easier by using a bespoke product to brings those headlights back to life without any extra steps or mess.Doing these things on a regular basis will not only keep your car looking good, it will protect it from further damage and help its exterior last as long as you need it towhich hopefully wont be another 14 years.

  • The iPhone 15 Pro will get Visual Intelligence with iOS 18.4
    www.engadget.com
What started as an Apple Intelligence feature exclusive to the Camera Control-endowed iPhone 16 line is coming to older iPhones, and soon. We already knew that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would get Visual Intelligence at some point in the future, and thanks to 9to5Mac, we now know it's one of several options you can assign to the Action Button in the second iOS 18.4 beta. That likely means the feature could end up in the final release of the update.Visual Intelligence lets you draw on AI models from Google and OpenAI to find information (and websites) about anything you point your iPhone's camera at. You can also use the feature to add information from a flyer to your calendar and oddly, identify dog breeds. Until recently, the feature had to be summoned with a long-press of Camera Control on an iPhone 16, but as of the release of the iPhone 16e, Apple made it possible to use an Action Button to pull it up, too. Considering the iPhone 15 Pro's A17 Pro chip offers enough RAM to enable other Apple Intelligence features, it makes sense that its ACtion Button shouldn't be left out of the fun.iOS 18.4 is currently in beta and is expected to launch in early April. Alongside expanding the number of phones that can run Visual Intelligence, Apple is also using the update to launch a new recipe section in Apple News called Apple News+ Food. Previously, Bloomberg reported that iOS 18.4 was supposed to also mark the launch of Apple's upgraded Siri, which is supposed to have the ability to see and take action inside of apps, but that feature is now coming later. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/ai/the-iphone-15-pro-will-get-visual-intelligence-with-ios-184-204658321.html?src=rss

  • The iPad mini 7 is back on sale for $100 off
    www.engadget.com
Apples iPad mini 7 (A17 Pro) from 2024 is currently on sale for $399, a record low for this compact iPad. Its perfect for those who find a full-sized iPad too large for their needs, but make no mistake this tablet can punch above its weight. The iPad mini 7 runs on the same Apple A17 Pro chip found in iPhone 15 Pro series devices. Its not the most powerful chipset available, but its enough for daily tasks, light gaming, reading and streaming content. Apple claims that the iPad mini 7s battery can last 10 hours, but our tests revealed that the number was usually closer to eight, depending on the apps youre running. If you have an Apple Pencil Pro (sold separately), this iPad mini supports it. You can quickly start writing notes with the tap of a button, which calls up a blank document. Its the perfect tool for artists or those who prefer a tablet stylus. Despite the absence of features like Face ID or refresh rates above 60Hz, the iPad mini 7 is a convenient yet powerful device you can bring anywhere. Thats why its on our best iPads list.
