Our first look at Apples sky blue MacBook Airwww.theverge.comAside from a new color, the M4 MacBook Air looks a whole lot like last years model. And weve got the hands-on experience and pictures to prove it.Apples got five main updates for its refresh of the 13- and 15-inch MacBook Airs for 2025. First, its got a similar M4 chip to the base 14-inch MacBook Pro, though here it starts with a 10-core CPU and 8-core GPU. Also inherited from the MacBook Pros, the Airs now use the 12-megapixel Center Stage webcam thats wider and can track you within the frame. And you can now (finally) use two external monitors and keep the lid open, essentially giving you a fancy triple-monitor setup with the lowly MacBook Air.As for that new color option, sky blue, it replaces space gray. Starlight, silver, and midnight are still around from last year (and midnight is unchanged, so expect some fingerprint smudginess). The new blue is a very pale metallic finish. You could mistake it for a silver if you didnt see them side-by-side. I think the best way I could describe it is 2003 Toyota Matrix blue. In other words, its nice but not blue enough. Apple should call it non-committal blue. But the fifth thing thats new for the MacBook Air, and likely the one many of us will care most about, is that it starts at a lower price. The 13-inch model starts at $999 while the 15-inch starts at $1,199. This is actually a return to form for the 13-inch, which used to start at that price before an increase during the M2 generation. The M4 Air may be an otherwise subtle chip-bump of an upgrade with a new bland-ish metallic finish, but $100 off makes all the difference. In addition to our hands-on with the MacBook Air we also got our first look at the new Mac Studio duo, one with the M4 Max chip and one with a new, all-out M3 Ultra. The Studios dont look any different, but the changes inside are pretty major for hardcore pros doing some heavy-duty creative work or local AI stuff. And the new iPad Air with M3 chip? Well, its an iPad. Cool. I guess?Apples new Macs and iPads are due out next week and already up for order. Check out our smattering of photos.MacBook Air M4The 15-inch MacBook Air remains an impressively thin and light device when you consider its screen size. But the 13-inch passes my three finger test. Which I guess Im making A Thing now.Yep, this is still sky blue by the way. And yes, it looks quite silver in certain light. The port selection remains the same: one MagSafe charging port and two Thunderbolt 4 / USB-C ports.Still sky blue in this pic, too. I swear.Maybe they should have just named it silver blue? When is the sky ever this color unless its cloudy?Admit it: if I didnt have the sticker on this starlight M3 MacBook Air it could totally pass for the M4 model.Mac Studio M4 Max / M3 UltraThe front ports on the M4 Max Mac Studio are Thunderbolt 4, with its four rear ports getting Thunderbolt 5. But all six ports are Thunderbolt 5 on the M3 Ultra model. This is the M3 Ultra Mac Studio, which of course, looks just like all the others. But its actually two pounds heavier than the M4 Max thanks to its beefier internal cooling system.A $599 11-inch M3 iPad Air with its new $269 Magic Keyboard. That function row sure is costly.Photography by Antonio G. Di Benedetto / The VergeSee More:0 التعليقات ·0 المشاركات ·54 مشاهدة

Daredevil: Born Again's One-Take Fight Scene Is All About the Train Tracks of Fatewww.ign.comFull spoilers follow for Episode 1 of Daredevil: Born Again. The Netflix Daredevil show became known for its oners that is, long, continuous camera takes that seemingly have no edits. It all started with the now iconic hallway fight in Season 1, and each season that followed had some new one-take action scene. Now that continues with Daredevil: Born Again, which features an extended battle in Episode 1 between Charlie Coxs Matt Murdock and Dex Poindexter/Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) as the camera follows them through Josies Bar, up several flights of stairs to the buildings rooftop, back down to Karen (Deborah Ann Woll) as she holds the dying Foggy (Elden Henson), and back up to the fight. All while theyre kicking the crap out of each other. Its a lot.Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, who directed the episode, said it was scary to follow the famous Daredevil single takes that had come before, let alone try to top them.Charlie Coxs Matt Murdock and Dex Poindexter/Bullseye (Wilson Bethel) face off.So we were talking about like, how do we reach the bar that [the Netflix oners] set for acting, for drama, for tragedy in that original show, Moorhead tells IGN. It's like, Yeah, we're filmmakers, we like oners, we've done them. But it's intimidating to even watch [the original show] to figure out how they did it.He adds that they never even had the chance to talk to Cox about how the prison oner from Season 3 was shot. There's pressure to get it right, says Moorhead. So part of their philosophy in achieving the shot in Born Again involved a cinematic philosophy that they call the train tracks of fate.Watch one minute of the fight scene in the clip below:PlayThank God we had the steadying hand of Phil Silvera, our action director, second unit director, who choreographed the whole thing, explains Benson. And we decided on this really rigid camera language for it, because what we've noticed [is] that the most popular kind of oner is you put a camera on the person's shoulder and you just chase them around, which is exciting to all filmmakers, basically. But we decided in this one what we wanted to do was, if this is a show about a man who believes that he has lost his chance at redemption, lost the blessings of his faith, then our camera has this omniscience as well. It's like it's watching.Hence the train tracks of fate, as the team essentially treated the cameras point of view as if it already knew what was going to happen before it happens. If this is a man who believes that he has lost his chance at redemption, lost the blessings of his faith, then our camera has this omniscience as well. It's like it's watching. So we decided to nail our camera down, continues Benson. And tell our camera that it already knows how this goes. It knows that Foggy dies. It knows that [Matt] crosses a line and tries to kill someone on a roof. And the camera is this dispassionate entity that is just slowly moving on what we call the train tracks of fate, moving with the action, but not following it in a frenetic way. And you just get this sense, this tightness in your stomach, of doom. You just know it's going to go terribly wrong. It's exciting, but there's this other thing too. There's this other layer of like, Something's terribly wrong here.Charlie Cox points out that placing the scene at the start of the series makes perfect sense for Daredevils story this season.Because if it's the end of the season, then there's an argument to have it be more green-grass, frenetic, following the action kind of on a whim, as it were, to tell the story that no one knows what's going to happen, says the actor. But because it happens so early on in our show, and just by the placement of it, you are telling the story of a doom. You are telling the story of, there's a premonition here, there's a foregone conclusion to this. And if you look inside yourself, you know what it is.What did you think of the oner? Police in Australia are using CarPlay in an interesting way9to5mac.comDrivers love Apple CarPlay because it enables safe interaction with iPhone apps through the cars built-in screen. It turns out police in Australia are benefiting from CarPlay for a whole other safety purpose.Law enforcement vehicles in Western Australia are using CarPlay to help identify vehicles of interest without the need for specialized equipment inside the car. Heres how it works:Western Australia Police Force (WA Police Force) is conducting faster and better-informed investigations and road policing throughout the state through the addition of automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) capability within Motorola SolutionsPSCoremobile application. The expanded app has been deployed in more than 80 police vehicles and operates ANPR seamlessly via Apple CarPlay, making it simple to use while negating the need for additional equipment including screens and brackets. []Through continued development and innovation, the PSCore mobile app has provided WA Police Force with greater capabilities to respond to a wider variety of incidents including family violence incidents. This capability has since been automated to publish family violence reports in real-time to the Department of Communities, accelerating referrals to support agencies for victims while police are in attendance at the scene.Policing is probably not the first thing that comes to mind when you think of CarPlay, but it makes sense that CarPlay should be a part of a digital policing strategy. Streaming on Disney Plus: 20 TV Shows You Should Definitely Watch Right Nowwww.cnet.comIt took five years forDisney Plusto become a formidable streaming platform. That's a commendable accomplishment. Is it really that shocking, though? Where else can you find copious entries from the catalogs of Marvel and Star Wars? Do I even need to mentionBluey? In true Disney fashion, the company's TV streaming service has something for every family member: riveting comic book adventures, magical tales for young adults, educational docuseries and engaging unscripted shows. And though we're still two years away from the recently announced Bluey movie, there are plenty of episodes featuring the Heeler family for you and your loved ones to enjoy.Simply put, the Disney brand has power, and it's on full display on Disney Plus. With endless hours of entertainment at your disposal, it's easy to get lost like Alice down the rabbit hole. That's where we come in. Below is our curated guide to the best Disney Plus original TV shows. Any of these titles are worth a binge. Just click Play. You'll be glad you did.Read more: Disney Plus Review: More Than Just Child's Play Disney/Francisco Roman Goosebumps Justin Long led the first installment of Disney Plus' YA series, and David Schwimmer takes up the mantle of creepy adult in the show's second season. The gateway horror series takes inspiration from R.L. Stine's iconic book series. Each season follows a group of teens wrapped up in a supernatural mystery. Matt Kennedy/Lucafilm Ltd. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew Star Wars: Skeleton Crew dials the tone back to the Amblin days of the 1980s. There's no trace of Luke Skywalker in this show. Instead, Skeleton Crew takes place in a reality where stories of the Jedi are viewed as fairy tales. That is, until a ragtag group of kids stumble upon an abandoned starship and accidentally shoot themselves into space. The result: a (literally) out-of-this-world adventure. Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Agatha All Along Agatha All Along isn't a direct sequel to WandaVision, but the stories are definitely related. Kathryn Hahn reprises her deliciously devilish role in the spooky new series, which follows Agatha and a group of ragtag witches on a journey down the Witches Road to help Ms. Harkness get her powers back. Spoiler: It ain't gonna be easy. Lucasfilm Ltd. Star Wars: Visions Star Wars: Visions is a fun and edgy animated anthology series that adds an exciting new element to Lucasfilm's long-established franchise. Seven Japanese animation studios were tapped to create nine unique noncanonical episodes for the program. Additional episodes from Spain, Ireland, Chile, the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, India, Japan and South Africa were released in the show's second installment. Disney Plus Doctor Who Doctor Who kicked off 60 years ago, and since then, the sci-fi series has been revamped multiple times. Actors like David Tennant and Matt Smith helped bring the iconic Time Lord into the present day with the program's run of modern era seasons. Ncuti Gatwa is the latest actor to take the reins as the Doctor, marking the first time in the program's history that a Black actor has stepped into the role. Doctor Who made the move to Disney Plus in 2023. New episodes (starting with season 14) will exclusively air on the streamer. Ludo Studio Bluey Bluey is a phenomenon, plain and simple. The kids' show, which follows a family of anthropomorphic dogs -- Bluey, her sister Bingo, dad Bandit and mom Chilli -- wasthe most streamed series in 2023, and for good reason. Nearly all the episodes run at around 8 minutes in length, making it an easy binge. And while the tone remains light and playful, the series digs into relevant and poignant topics in a way that never talks down to its audience. Who knew a show about an Australian dog family would be so addictive? Disney Plus knew. Disney Plus Andor Simply put, I thinkAndor is the best Star Wars series Disney Plus has made. The program ditches the flashy, and often clichd, production values of its predecessors and goes all-in on some intense ground-level storytelling. Expanding the story of the characters featured in the one-off film Rogue One, Andor comes through with the emotional stakes thanks to its smart writing and the excellent performances of its cast. Phenomenal stuff, right here. Disney Plus Percy Jackson and the Olympians This fresh take on Rick Riordan's cherished books aims to erase the live-action movies from our collective memories. And for the most part, it accomplishes its task. The eight-episode first season follows the events of Lightning Thief, the first book in the series. Thanks to a younger cast and lighter stakes, this Percy Jackson series is positioned to be a YA hit for Disney Plus. Lucasfilm Ltd. The Mandalorian Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau took their love of Star Wars to new heights with The Mandalorian. It's the first live-action Star Wars series to hit Disney Plus and it set the standard for everything that came after. Stylistically inspired by things like the Lone Wolf and Cub manga, Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo and Sergio Leone's iconic Dollars trilogy (which starred Clint Eastwood as the Man With No Name), the series follows a lone bounty hunter who gets a second chance at life when he's hired to protect a little green alien you may know simply as Baby Yoda. Apple Corps Ltd The Beatles: Get Back This three-part documentary series puts us smack-dab in the creative maelstrom of one of the world's biggest musical groups. Directed by Oscar-winner Peter Jackson, The Beatles: Get Back gives a cinma vrit-style look at a band at the top of their game and on the precipice of collapse. This previously unseen footage shows John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr in rehearsal for their infamous rooftop concert at their Apple Corps headquarters on London's Savile Row. It was their last live performance. It's breathtaking, inspiring and heartbreaking. And definitely worth a watch. Marvel Studios What If...? If you've ever wondered what may have happened if things turned out differently for your favorite Marvel heroes and villains, Marvel's What If...? is the show for you. The animated anthology series is based on the comic book of the same name and asks, "What if key events in the MCU never happened?"Peggy Carter can totally become Captain Americaand theAvengers may turn into brain-hungry zombies. And that's just the tip of the iceberg of what Marvel's What If...? is bringing to the table.Read our fullWhat If... ? review here. Marvel Animation X-Men '97 X-Men: The Animated Series ended its five-season run in 1997. Almost three decades later, X-Men '97 continues the story of everyone's favorite mutant superhero crew. The pacing is quick, the writing is tight, and the 2D animation style acts as a nice bow tying together this lovely nostalgic gift for '90s kids everywhere. Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios Echo Echo (Alaqua Cox) was first introduced in a three-episode arc in Hawkeye. Marvel's Echois centered on the hearing-impaired antihero. She's also a member of the Choctaw Nation, which leads the series to wonderfully explore these aspects of her identity. Her association with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D'Onofrio) further connects the MCU shows on Disney Plus with those previously on Netflix -- and sets up the arrival of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and crew quite nicely. Lucasfilm Ltd. Star Wars: The Bad Batch The Bad Batch is an intense, action-packed spin-off of the celebrated Star Wars animated seriesThe Clone Wars. Audiences have seen the fallout of Order 66 take shape in various forms throughout the Star Wars franchise, but never like this. The Bad Batch follows a squad of elite clone troopers with genetic defects. They may have special abilities, but that doesn't make them invisible to the top-secret execution order. In turn, the animated series fills in some blanks in Star Wars lore. It does so in an incredibly entertaining way. Disney Plus Ms. Marvel Ms. Marvel is a breath of fresh air for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The Disney Plus series flips the script on what we have grown to expect from Marvel shows on the streamer. Iman Vellani is a revelation as the titular hero. It's a challenge for a show to balance the heavy responsibilities of being a superhero with the trials and tribulations of high school. The story pulls it off, and does so with a welcome helping of Muslim representation. Disney Plus WandaVision WandaVision started it all on Disney Plus. It's the first original series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to hit the streamer. It's a genre-bending adventure that finds Wanda and Vision living out different realities inspired by TV sitcoms, from I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke Show to The Brady Bunch and Family Ties. How does the emotional fallout of Avengers: Endgame (and Vision's death, specifically) affect Wanda? Well, let's just say her grief takes her down one heck of a weird rabbit hole.Read our fullWandaVision review. Gareth Gatrell/Marvel/Disney Plus Loki Tom Hiddleston has appeared as Loki, the God of Mischief, throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the past decade. Thanks to Disney Plus, he finally leads his own odd adventure. The quirky sci-fi series puts Loki in the unlikely position of hero. Here, he works with a barrage of interesting characters, including Owen Wilson's Mobius M. Mobius, to correct the timeline. It's an offbeat, fun and thoroughly weird series that appeals to die-hard fans and newbs alike. Chuck Zlotnick/Marvel Studios The Falcon and the Winter Soldier What happens when Captain America hangs up his shield? That's the question going into Marvel'sThe Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Here, Sam Wilson (better known as Falcon) and Bucky Barnes (aka the Winter Soldier) buddy up in a surprisingly funny and heartfelt series that deals with trauma, grief and classism as the world picks up the pieces from the earth-shattering events of Avengers: Endgame. Disney Moon Knight Moon Knight stars Oscar Isaac as Steven Grant, a troubled man with dissociative identity disorder. These aren't simple anxiety issues -- no, Grant actually shares his body with a mercenary named Marc Spector. The discovery of this alter-ego leads Grant on an adventure that pits him against a sinister cult leader named Arthur Harrow (Ethan Hawke) and a gang of formidable Egyptian gods. It's a trippy ride that may even scratch that Indiana Jones itch.Read our fullMoon Knight review. Disney Plus Muppets Mayhem Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem Band get top billing in Muppets Mayhem, Disney Plus's latest series inspired by Jim Henson's Muppets. Here, the Electric Mayhem Band struggles to record one more album. But record company politics and other past mistakes make things complicated for the crew -- and boy do those complications lead to some hilarious on-screen antics! Of all the Muppets programs to hit TV in recent years, Muppets Mayhem comes closest to the wacky, fun vibe of the original.0 التعليقات ·0 المشاركات ·54 مشاهدة

Pokken Tournament DX If you've ever wanted more action from your Pokemon battles, the Pokken fighting game series is right up your alley. Pokken Tournament DX lets players put together teams of three and go head-to-head in the arena. There are 21 playable monsters, including classics like Charizard, Mewtwo, Gengar and Machamp -- but the roster also includes other fan favorites like Gardevoir, Garchomp and Decidueye. This fighting game doesn't have the greatest breadth of content and has a rather lackluster singleplayer campaign, but there's a lot of depth to be explored in player-versus-player combat. Players must learn multiple characters and build good team synergy between their chosen Pokemon. Additionally, 15 different "support Pokemon" can be chosen to aid your team (or hinder your opponent) as a match unfolds, adding another layer to Pokken's meta strategy. In order to succeed in Pokken Tournament DX, you need to learn move strings and master your characters, but you also need to play around with counters and learn team synergy. It's the perfect combination of a Pokemon game and an arena fighter.Release Date: Sept. 22, 2017Platform: Nintendo SwitchGenre: Competitive 3D fighting gameDeveloper: Bandai Namco Studios $60 at Amazon Nintendo 24. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee The Kanto region makes a return on the Nintendo Switch's Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee. These extremely kid-friendly games make generation one Pokemon accessible to anyone, by cutting out most wild Pokemon battles and giving players a cute (and strong) partner Pokemon. The Let's Go games are a retread of the original Pokemon gym challenge, but they incorporate 3D graphics and Pokemon Go catching mechanics to revitalize and refresh a tired adventure. As with many of the Nintendo Switch Pokemon games, it's very easy to draft up a competitive team with Exp. Candies, bottle caps that max out IVs and more. Shiny Pokemon hunting is also easier, with a new method allowing players to chain Pokemon catches from the same species in order to boost the odds of running into one of the elusive chromatic oddities. Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee aren't the hardest Pokemon games, and they're not the best generation one titles either -- but Pokemon Go on a home console is a very appealing prospect all the same.Release Date: Nov. 16, 2018Platform: Nintendo SwitchGenre: Kanto offshoot incorporating Pokemon Go catch mechanicsDeveloper: Game Freak Nintendo 23. Pokemon Unite While multiplayer online battle arenas have a bad reputation for building toxic communities, Pokemon Unite offers a family-friendly alternative to games like League of Legends, DOTA 2 and Smite. Players participate in 10-minute long, five-versus-five matches where they need to evolve their Pokemon, gain power and beat their opponents by depositing points in goals around the map.Pokemon Unite limits text chat by default, and incoming voice chat can be turned off in the settings. There's no visible scoreboard, which is intended to prevent angry teammates from rage-quitting before the end of the match. These quality-of-life features make it stress-free to solo queue and learn any of the 62 Pokemon featured within the game. Unite follows a free-to-play model and is a straightforward MOBA experience for new players -- making it a great way for interested parties to dip their toes into the genre.Release Date: July 21, 2021Platform: Nintendo Switch, Android, iOSGenre: Simplified multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA)Developer: TiMi Studio Group See at Nintendo Nintendo 22. Cutting through the feature creep that has defined the physical card game, Pokemon TCG Pocket has launched several "back to basics" expansions that focus on simple mechanics like Pokemon Ex cards, Pokemon tools and trainer and supporter cards. Prebuilt decks and AI battles teach the fundamentals of battling, removing a lot of pressure from new players looking to dive right in.If you're just a casual collector, TCG Pocket still offers the thrill of ripping two free packs every day. Detective Pikachu Before Ryan Reynolds voiced everyone's favorite electric rat, Pikachu donned his trench coat and tweed hat to solve mysteries on the 3DS. This Creatures Inc. game will feel familiar to folks who enjoy a good visual novel mystery. In Detective Pikachu, players step into the role of Tim Goodman, whose father recently went missing after getting caught up in a sinister conspiracy. After finding his dad's talking Pikachu, Tim joins the Baker Detective Agency to solve the case.Detective Pikachu plays out like many other mystery procedurals, where players will scan scenes for clues, speak with nearby Pokemon and interrogate people to figure out what happened. There are multiple cases to solve that build up the overarching storyline. If you've seen the movie, you'll have an idea of what's going on here, but the plot is just different enough to catch you by surprise. At its core, Detective Pikachu understands what Pokemon is all about: the bond between human and monster as they work together toward a common goal.Release Date: March 23, 2018Platform: Nintendo 3DSGenre: Mystery and adventure-filled visual novelDeveloper: Creatures Inc. Pokemon Conquest Move over Fire Emblem: Pokemon Conquest is a tactical RPG about uniting warriors under one banner and overcoming great adversity to conquer the kingdoms of the Ransei region. Conquest derives its plot from historical events that took place during Japan's Warring States period, though here our hero needs to defeat all opposing forces to seek counsel with the local legendary Pokemon and restore the peace.Starting with a partner Eevee, players can add 200 species of Pokemon to their army. Each monster has a single skill to contribute to the battle, and warriors and warlords can provide one-time buffs to their Pokemon units. Players who are able to conquer the entire Ransei region will unlock an additional 16 postgame story chapters, many of which reference actual historical events. If Fire Emblem fans or Japanese history buffs have yet to experience the Pokemon franchise, Conquest serves as their introduction to the monster battler phenomenon.Release Date: March 17, 2012Platform: Nintendo DSGenre: Unit-based tactical RPG in the vein of Fire EmblemDeveloper:The Pokemon Company, Koei Tecmo Nintendo 19. Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen The first mainline Pokemon remakes ever released might seem a little barebones compared to contemporary games, but they vastly improved on the original games from 1996. Pokemon Red and Blue were revolutionary for their time, but they were incredibly flawed games. If your Pokemon was frozen there was no random chance for them to thaw out. If they were trapped by a move like Fire Spin or Bind, they couldn't do anything for the duration of the effect, and certain type match ups didn't perform the way they were supposed to.FireRed and LeafGreen fixed these issues and added more content to the already aging gen one titles. In addition to a graphical facelift, mechanics and movepools were updated to reflect their current status in gen three games like Pokemon Emerald. This made battles less frustrating, while also giving players more autonomy to build their team in interesting new directions.Pokemon Red and Blue will always be revered for kicking off the franchise, but if you want to take a look at what kicked off the pokemania, you're better off picking up FireRed and LeafGreen.Release Date: Jan. 29, 2004Platform: Game Boy AdvanceGenre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 18. Pokemon Sword and Shield The first mainline Pokemon games to release on the Switch were a little rough around the edges and deeply embroiled in controversy (anyone remember Dexit?). Even so, Sword and Shield introduced novel mechanics and made building competitive teams simpler than ever before. The Galar region's Wild Area was a great way to connect disparate locations in a simple badge-hunting adventure, making Pokemon encounters feel more natural in the overworld.Dynamaxing may not have been as popular as Mega Pokemon, but it was the next best thing. Getting a power boost for only a few turns in battle added a new layer of strategy to competitive play, because it forced players to think about not just which Pokemon they wanted to Dynamax, but when they wanted to Dynamax their Pokemon. The Battle Tower wasn't an extensive amount of postgame content, but it allowed players to earn items to change natures, reset EVs and max out IVs on members of their team.Generation eight was perhaps the first time online battling with perfect Pokemon became accessible to more casual players without hacked Pokemon, and that's enough to make Sword and Shield stand out.Release Date: Nov. 15, 2019Platform: Nintendo SwitchGenre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 17. Pokemon Colosseum Pokemon Colosseum was the first game to bring epic battles to the home console market, launching on the GameCube in 2003. The player is tasked with battling to the top of the ladder in the Orre region -- a difficult task, considering the arid desert landscape prevents the main character from encountering any Pokemon in the wild. It's up to you to snag new Pokemon from other trainers, piecing together a team through victory in battle. While Pokemon Colosseum featured a smaller roster of pocket monsters than other mainline titles, it renewed interest in double battles and introduced shadow Pokemon for the first time. The villainous Team Cipher abused these corrupted pocket monsters, which made snagging and purifying each partner Pokemon feel more important.Perhaps most importantly, Pokemon Colosseum laid the groundwork for Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness, making it one of the most important stepping stones in the franchise's history.Release Date: Nov. 21, 2003Platform: GameCubeGenre: Evolution of Pokemon Stadium combining straightforward double battling with a novel redemption storyDeveloper:Genius Sonority Nintendo 16. Pokemon Rumble One of the simplest Pokemon games, Pokemon Rumble is a cathartic, family-friendly beat 'em up where tiny toy Pokemon battle by slamming into each other to exert dominance. The original 151 generation one Pokemon appear in hordes to battle through, dropping coins that let players purchase new companions or change their moveset. The addictive repetition of the gameplay loop is akin to a dungeon crawler like Diablo, but its complexity is pared down enough that a child could understand.Once players smack around enough fodder and level up their Pokemon, they get to enter the Battle Royale. Here, they need to take on dozens of Pokemon at once in an enclosed room to rank up and earn the chance to take on tougher foes. Eventually, even legendary Pokemon can show up in the scuffles. Pokemon Rumble certainly isn't for intensive teambuilding strategists, but it's a Pokemon battler that's good fun for fans of any age.Release Date: June 16, 2009Platform: WiiGenre: Simple arcade-y beat 'em upDeveloper:Ambrella Nintendo 15. Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia The Pokemon Ranger series took full advantage of the DS's hardware to create a novel way to step into the role of some of the most important everyday heroes in the Pokemon world. Rarely were the touchscreen and stylus the main gameplay focus of a Pokemon game, but they were necessary peripherals to draw loops around wild monsters to recruit them to your cause in Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia.Throughout the region of Almia, the villainous Team Dim Sun is using new technology to bend Pokemon to their will, and only the Pokemon Rangers have the power to break the shackles placed on their minds. It's up to the player to ascend the ranks of the Pokemon Rangers, and stop the nefarious plot to enslave every Pokemon in Almia.Shadows of Almia vastly improves on its predecessor, allowing players to take on different partner Pokemon and upgrade their stylers, creating new gameplay styles and strategies. There are also 270 new Pokemon included in this version of Pokemon Ranger, creating hundreds of new situations for players attempting to tame out-of-control monsters. If you're wondering how normal people keep the peace in the Pokemon universe, Shadows of Almia is the action-adventure game that answers your questions.Release Date: March 20, 2008Platform: Nintendo DS, Wii UGenre: Action-adventure with unique Pokemon-world interactionsDeveloper:Creatures Inc. Nintendo 14. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness This sequel to Pokemon Colosseum takes the concept of shadow Pokemon and runs wild, introducing the now-iconic shadow Lugia as a tool of the main antagonist. Taking place five years after the original game, the Orre region is now a more civilized place (though Team Cipher is still on the loose and causing havoc). There are 83 shadow Pokemon to collect, purify and use in battle, which gives Gale of Darkness players more flexibility with their team composition. Most importantly, the game ironed out many of the flaws present in Pokemon Colosseum. Players can now purify up to nine Pokemon at a time, making the critical mechanic less of a slog to engage with. Despite this, shadow Pokemon attacks also became super effective against non-shadow Pokemon opponents, so there was still tactical value for players to keep some of their Pokemon unpurified. Gale of Darkness added more depth to battles in one of the toughest Pokemon games.Players had to carefully consider their decisions in each double battle if they wanted to succeed, especially against overwhelming forces like Lugia. Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness still holds up as a challenging title when compared to more contemporary mainline games.Release Date: Aug. 4, 2005Platform: GameCubeGenre: 3D action-adventure RPG with an emphasis on double battlesDeveloper:Genius Sonority Nintendo 13. Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire The most feature-complete version of Pokemon Pinball added the novel thrill of catching 'em all to an arcade classic. With two machines themed to emulate the feel of the generation three games, Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire encouraged players to complete a massive Pokedex as they shot for a high score.Special features across the board unlock Pokeball returns, a Pokemart opening and Pokemon-catching minigames that spawn pocket monsters from the third-generation games. Skilled players can activate special timed maps where they'll have a chance to catch rare Pokemon like Dusclops or legendary Pokemon like Groudon and Kyogre. Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire is an alternative arcade solution to catching 'em all, and its addictive gameplay loop will have players returning even after they complete the Pokedex.Release Date: Aug. 1, 2003Platform: Game Boy Advance, Wii UGenre: Arcade pinball with a Pokemon twistDeveloper:Jupiter Corporation Nintendo 12. Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX A faithful remake of the game that kicked off the Mystery Dungeon series, Rescue Team DX serves as a reminder of just how fun Pokemon's other turn-based games are. This game laid the groundwork for the formula that Explorers of Sky perfected, establishing the human-turned-Pokemon narrative concept and tying it to simple but addictive dungeon-crawling gameplay. It's up to the player and their partner to prevent a series of escalating natural disasters from destroying the world, putting together an elite squad to deliver aid inside of dungeons.Rescue Team DX replicates the original beat-by-beat but elevates the experience with a beautiful new art style. Pokemon and landscapes are rendered in pastel watercolors, making the world feel like a painting come to life. This game is a fantastic entry point to the series, but it also gives veteran Mystery Dungeon players a reason to keep returning for more.Release Date: March 6, 2020Platform: Nintendo SwitchGenre: Turn-based roguelike dungeon delve RPGDeveloper:Spike Chunsoft Nintendo 11. New Pokemon Snap Following in the footsteps of one of the original Pokemon games on the Nintendo 64, New Pokemon Snap revives the on-rails pocket monster photography series for the Switch. While the original Pokemon Snap included 63 generation one Pokemon, the sequel includes 234 different Pokemon pulled from various mainline games. The gameplay is smoother, there are more ways to interact with wild Pokemon and photography is more reliable in New Pokemon Snap.In addition to being a solid dose of nostalgia for Pokemon oldheads, the game embodies the spirit of older titles. There are tons of secret interactions throughout the different courses that spawn new Pokemon to photograph. New Pokemon Snap becomes a sort of logic puzzle where players experiment with using different items on new Pokemon to discover cute animated interactions. If you like the idea of experiencing Pokemon behavior in their natural habitats -- and not the aimless milling around of overworld spawns in games like Sword and Shield -- then New Pokemon Snap is the game for you.Release Date: April 30, 2021Platform: Nintendo SwitchGenre: On-rails photography game with deep environmental interactivityDeveloper:Bandai Namco Studios Nintendo 10. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon Improving upon the generation seven games Pokemon Sun and Moon, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon add some sci-fi flair to the sunny Alola region. Though the narrative largely follows the island challenges established in the preceding games, dimensional shenanigans start to unleash strange Ultra Beasts as the story progresses. The player encounters multiple new Pokemon, including the legendary Necrozma, on their quest to beat the new Alolan Elite Four.By the time the player reaches the postgame, a dimensional displacement drags people and Pokemon out of their proper realities. That's the cue for epic nostalgia bait, as Team Rainbow Rocket forms under Giovanni, Cyrus, Archie, Maxie and Ghetsis -- villains from past games -- to threaten the Alola region. Defeating them unlocks the Ultra Wormholes and the ability to find Pokemon from other dimensions, which is a wacky and fun mechanic for the game to culminate with. Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon don't add quite as many new mechanics as other games and don't do anything new with Z-Moves, but mixing a Hawaiian vacation with science-fiction escapades makes for a solid set of Pokemon games.Release Date: Nov. 17, 2017Platform: Nintendo 3DSGenre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 9. Pokemon X and Y As the first mainline games to make the jump to 3D graphics from pixel art sprites, Pokemon X and Y are lauded for their contributions to modernizing the franchise. As players explore the Kalos region, they discover the secrets of Mega evolution and run up against the evil Team Flare. The team's leader, Lysandre, aims to use an ancient weapon capable of destroying all life to strong-arm the region into submission. It's up to the protagonist to wield the power of Yveltal and Xerneas to put a stop to his evil plans.Pokemon X and Y introduced some of the best changes in modern Pokemon. Mega evolutions give new, inspired designs to older Pokemon -- and sometimes make them competitively viable where they previously weren't. The fairy-type is also an important counter to dragon-type Pokemon, which had few weaknesses across the type chart before generation six.The following generations tried to replicate the success of X and Y with Z-Moves, Dynamaxing and Terastallization, but none of these mechanics carried games the way Mega evolution did.Release Date: Oct. 12, 2013Platform: Nintendo 3DSGenre: Mainline titleDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo 8. Pokemon Go Forget experiencing the Pokemon world through video games -- in 2016, we finally got a chance to catch our favorite pocket monsters in real life (well, in alternate reality, which is the closest approximation there is).Pokemon Go was an instant hit, ushering in a brilliant summer in which it seemed everyone just wanted to discover virtual creatures together. People were mobbing Central Park for rare spawns, reporters were sneaking a peak at the game during White House press briefings and Hillary Clinton made a disastrous bid to get the youth to "Pokemon Go to the polls."Niantic's biggest game might not be at the peak of its cultural relevance anymore, but Pokemon Go is more feature-complete than ever before. Players can catch wild Pokemon from generations one to nine, participate in cooperative raids to catch legendaries and mythicals, fight for dominance over gyms, and battle the nefarious Team Go Rocket. There's a whole world out there to discover with your partner Pokemon.Release Date: July 6, 2016Platform: Android, iOSGenre: Real world AR Pokemon collectorDeveloper:Niantic Nintendo 7. Pokemon Legends: Arceus The first truly open world Pokemon game, Legends: Arceus, finally conveyed the awe and terror of life in a wild, untamed world with such powerful monsters. Players are integrated into the Galactic Expedition Team's Survey Corps in Hisui, an ancient version of the Sinnoh region. It's up to you to complete one of the first versions of the Pokedex, gather information about new Pokemon and try to figure out what has made them angry enough to rampage across the land.Legends: Arceus demands ingenuity and quick thinking from players chasing dangerous Alpha Pokemon, as these monsters move quickly and won't think twice about cutting you down. There are multiple approaches to battle outside of releasing your own Pokemon to fight, and you can sometimes avoid fighting altogether through light stealth gameplay. Pokemon Legends: Arceus feels like the first adventure highlighting more realistic wild Pokemon behavior, and the perilous Hisui region feels more alive than most other mainline game locales.Release Date: Jan 28, 2022Platform: Nintendo SwitchGenre: Open world survival game with Pokemon creature collection and battlingDeveloper:Game Freak Nintendo0 التعليقات ·0 المشاركات ·54 مشاهدة

Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Suikoden I & II HD Remasterwww.nintendolife.comRead the rune, KonamiAs for what other outlets had to say, Nintendo World Report gave the Suikoden I & II HD Remaster 8.5/10:"If youve never played Suikoden II and consider yourself a lover of Japanese-made RPGs, you should already have this game pre-ordered. This is a game that belongs on the podium near the 90s classics from Square Enix."RPG Site gave this pack 9/10 calling it "one that reaches for the stars and knocks it out of the park":"The effort put forth by Konami pays off in dividends. The end result is a project that, like another Pixel Remaster project before it, has the best of both worlds. These are games that play and look just like you remembered them, but somehow even a bit better. Slight QOL changes complement, rather than complicate, the gameplay. Suikoden I&II HD Remaster Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars might be a mouthful of a title, but its one that reaches for the stars - and knocks it out of the park"PC Gamer acknowledged how these are still fantastic RPGs, but felt there were some issues with the HD Remaster awarding the game a score of 79/100:"These are fantastic RPGs wrapped up in a middling remaster. Many of the new additions have simply been lifted straight from a 19-year-old PSP remake, and rarely address anything that seriously needed more care to improve. An inconsistent lick of paint that in one game highlights as many flaws as it hides and some additional difficulty levels really are the only significant unique features here, and surely not the best Konami could do for these incredible games."Siliconera had high praise for the Switch version, serving up a score of 9/10:"Suikoden 1 and 2 HD Remaster might not have earth-shattering additions, but the graphical updates and quality of life adjustments that are here make it a joy to return to these fantastic JRPGs. Both games are a delight to play on the Switch."And our pals at Push Square gave the game 8/10 stars as well:"Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune and Dunan Unification Wars combine two incredible JRPGs from the genres golden age on PS1, lovingly remastered and improved for PS5 and PS4. They suffer from the same issues many games did back in the day: unwieldy, occasionally grindy, and sometimes obtuse. Still, the package offers fans the chance to experience these lesser-known gems, and both deserve a place in the collection of any fan, even the least bit interested." Eric Schmidt argues against a Manhattan Project for AGItechcrunch.comIn a policy paper published Wednesday, former Google CEO Eric Schmidt, Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang, and Center for AI Safety Director Dan Hendrycks said that the U.S. should not pursue a Manhattan Project-style push to develop AI systems with superhuman intelligence, also known as AGI.The paper, titled Superintelligence Strategy, asserts that an aggressive bid by the U.S. to exclusively control superintelligent AI systems could prompt fierce retaliation from China, potentially in the form of a cyberattack, which could destabilize international relations.[A] Manhattan Project [for AGI] assumes that rivals will acquiesce to an enduring imbalance or omnicide rather than move to prevent it, the co-authors write. What begins as a push for a superweapon and global control risks prompting hostile countermeasures and escalating tensions, thereby undermining the very stability the strategy purports to secure.Co-authored by three highly influential figures in Americas AI industry, the paper comes just a few months after a U.S. congressional commission proposed a Manhattan Project-style effort to fund AGI development, modeled after Americas atomic bomb program in the 1940s. U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright recently said the U.S. is at the start of a new Manhattan Project on AI while standing in front of a supercomputer site alongside OpenAI co-founder Greg Brockman. The Superintelligence Strategy paper challenges the idea, championed by several American policy and industry leaders in recent months, that a government-backed program pursuing AGI is the best way to compete with China. In the opinion of Schmidt, Wang, and Hendrycks, the U.S. is in something of an AGI standoff not dissimilar to mutually assured destruction. In the same way that global powers do not seek monopolies over nuclear weapons which could trigger a preemptive strike from an adversary Schmidt and his co-authors argue that the U.S. should be cautious about racing toward dominating extremely powerful AI systems. While likening AI systems to nuclear weapons may sound extreme, world leaders already consider AI to be a top military advantage. Already, the Pentagon says that AI is helping speed up the militarys kill chain. Schmidt et al. introduce a concept they call Mutual Assured AI Malfunction (MAIM), in which governments could proactively disable threatening AI projects rather than waiting for adversaries to weaponize AGI.Schmidt, Wang, and Hendrycks propose that the U.S. shift its focus from winning the race to superintelligence to developing methods that deter other countries from creating superintelligent AI. The co-authors argue the government should expand [its] arsenal of cyberattacks to disable threatening AI projects controlled by other nations as well as limit adversaries access to advanced AI chips and open source models. The co-authors identify a dichotomy that has played out in the AI policy world. There are the doomers, who believe that catastrophic outcomes from AI development are a foregone conclusion and advocate for countries slowing AI progress. On the other side, there are the ostriches, who believe nations should accelerate AI development and essentially just hope itll all work out.The paper proposes a third way: a measured approach to developing AGI that prioritizes defensive strategies. That strategy is particularly notable coming from Schmidt, who has previously been vocal about the need for the U.S. to compete aggressively with China in developing advanced AI systems. Just a few months ago, Schmidt released an op-ed saying DeepSeek marked a turning point in Americas AI race with China. The Trump administration seems dead set on pushing ahead in Americas AI development. However, as the co-authors note, Americas decisions around AGI dont exist in a vacuum. As the world watches America push the limit of AI, Schmidt and his co-authors suggest it may be wiser to take a defensive approach.0 التعليقات ·0 المشاركات ·55 مشاهدة
