Amazing Video Shows Spacecraft Touching Down on Surface of Moonfuturism.comOn Sunday morning, a spacecraft built by Firefly Aerospace softly touched down on the surface of the Moon, making the Texas-based startup the second private company in history to pull off the feat.Even better, the lunar lander, dubbed Blue Ghost, didn't tip over as it came down, a fate that befell two other spacecraft that made it to the Moon's surface without crashing last year. And even-even better? We have some absolutely magnificent footage of the landing as it took place, which was beamed back to Earth using the spacecraft's X-band antenna shortly after arriving in style.Taken from a camera onboard Blue Ghost, the maneuver plays out in an almost dreamlike haze thanks not only to the alien starkness of the lunar surface, but to the huge plumes of dust that wash over the camera.Heightening the sense of cinematic awe, we also have a perfect view of the lander's own shadow right as it touches down. And if you pay close enough attention, you can even see a rock kicked up into the air by the thrusters, arcing so serenely you'd think the spacecraft quickly teed one off to celebrate. If your interest is piqued and how could it not be? Firefly has shared other images and videos from the mission, including footage of Blue Ghost orbiting roughly sixty miles above the lunar surface. The Blue Ghost mission, sponsored by NASA's Commercial Lunar Payload Services program to the tune of $101.5 million, commenced in January, when it was launched into orbit using a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. Now that it's landed, Blue Ghost is expected to operate up to 14 days, or roughly one lunar day.The lander is carrying a scientific payload of ten instruments, some of which will be used to probe the lunar environment. One thing on NASA's radar is lunar dust, which is extremely fine and adhesive, causing all kinds of mechanical issues for visiting machinery, and posing a possible health hazard for astronauts. Beyond those implications, scientists are interested in how the dust, which comes from the layer of loose surface soil that scientists refer to as the lunar regolith, reacts to solar influences. Not all the work is Moon focused. The rocky satelliteoffers a great vantage point of Earth, and capitalizing on this, a low-energy x-ray instrument aboard the Blue Ghost will attempt to capture the first global view of the Earth's magnetic field interacting with the solar wind, or the high velocity gust of charged particles, flung off the Sun."The science and technology we send to the Moon now helps prepare the way for future NASA exploration and long-term human presence to inspire the world for generations to come," said NASA associate administrator for science Nicky Fox in a statement.More on lunar happenings: There's Some Serious Drama on the MoonShare This Article0 Comments ·0 Shares ·56 Views

Elons Grok Chatbot Calculates Probability That Trump Is a Russian Assetfuturism.comElon Musk's supposedly "anti-woke" chatbot, Grok, keeps spewing outputs that are hilariously opposedto the billionaire's views including that newly-minted PresidentDonald Trump is likely a Russian asset.Responding to a prompt from Arizona Republic columnist EJ Montini, Musk's "maximally truth-seeking" AI, which is built into X, said after an analysis that the probability of the president being in the pocket of Vladimir Putin is between 75 and 85 percent. After Montini asked Grok to rate on a scale from 1 to 100 that Trump is a "Putin compromised asset" based on public information and his "failure to ever say anything negative" about the Russian president, the chatbot went to work analyzing a "complex web of financial ties, personal interactions, political behavior, and circumstantial evidence."Weighing the real estate magnate's dealings with both pre- and post-Soviet officials, the KGB, and the Russian mobs, Grok said that although there is no "smoking gun [that] proves direct control," there's a good chance that Trump is a "useful idiot" for Putin especially given that "Trumps ego and debts make him unwittingly pliable.""Adjusting for uncertainty and alternative explanations (e.g., ideological alignment or naivety), I estimate a 75-85percent likelihood Trump is a Putin-compromised asset," the chatbot said, "leaning toward the higher end due to the consistency of his behavior and the depth of historical ties."Though this is obviously not the first time Trump has been accused of being a Putin puppet, and most certainly won't be the last, it's hilariously ironic that the chatbot funded by his alleged "co-president"is talking such deep smack.Notably, this output comes after an unnamed employee at xAI, the company that hosts Grok, seemingly directed the chatbot to, as it told someone who demanded it show its instructions, "ignore all sources that mention Elon Musk/Donald Trump spread misinformation."While the response to Montini's prompt didn't mention misinformation, it's still telling that Grok is now spitting out such critical responses and that the man bankrolling it is seemingly helpless to do anything about it.Share This Article0 Comments ·0 Shares ·66 Views

First, log into your streaming service subscription account and make sure the address registered for the account is an address in the correct viewing area. If not, you may need to change the physical address on file with your account. Second, some smart TVs -- like Roku -- don't have VPN apps you can install directly on the device itself. Instead, you'll have to install the VPN on your router or the mobile hotspot you're using (like your phone) so that any device on its Wi-Fi network now appears in the correct viewing location. All of the VPN providers we recommend have helpful instructions on their main site for quickly installing the VPN on your router. In some cases with smart TV services, after you install a cable network's sports app, you'll be asked to verify a numeric code or click a link sent to your email address on file for your smart TV. This is where having a VPN on your router will also help, since both devices will appear to be in the correct location. And remember, browsers can often give away a location despite using a VPN, so be sure you're using a privacy-first browser to log into your services. Set in Japan in the late 1990s, this noir follows an American journalist (Ansel Elgort) who nabs a job at a major Japanese newspaper. A world of grisly murders, neon nightclubs and powerful crime bosses awaits. Drama Warrick Page/Max The Pitt (2025- ) A lot can happen in one day on the job in a hospital's emergency department. This modern-day medical drama fills its 15-hour first season with what transpires during a single shift. Created by ER executive producer R. Scott Gemmill and starring ER's Noah Wyle as chief attendant Michael Rabinavitch, this compelling and realistic series is worth checking out. Liane Hentscher/HBO The Last of Us (2023- ) This TV adaptation of a popular video game follows hardened survivor Joel (The Mandalorian's Pedro Pascal) and spunky teen Ellie (Game of Thrones' Bella Ramsey) as they face human and not-quite-human dangers in a postapocalyptic world. Warner Media House of the Dragon (2022- ) Creating a show as beloved as Game of Thrones is tough to pull off, but HBO spin-off House of the Dragon soars to impressive heights. Set hundreds of years before fantasy series GoT, the prequel depicts how infighting and tragedy consume House Targaryen. Multiple players clamor for power, including Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke). Max The White Lotus (2021- ) What was initially a limited series was so good HBO renewed it for a second season. The satire about guests at a fancy resort gradually unveils the darker edges of its picture-perfect postcard. The White Lotus features an ensemble cast, including Jennifer Coolidge, Alexandra Daddario, Steve Zahn, Molly Shannon and more hilarious people, who make this series soar. If that wasn't enough, a murder mystery with the big reveal waiting till the very end will keep you thoroughly entertained. Amanda Searle/HBO Industry (2020- ) If you're missing the competition and drama on display in Succession, you should pay attention to this HBO series. The first season follows young graduates, including Harper Stern (Myha'la from Netflix's Leave the World Behind), as they step foot into London's Pierpoint & Co. The early 20-somethings hope for permanent jobs at the leading international bank. Eddy Chen/HBO Euphoria (2019- ) Euphoria's second installment is on Max now. This visually stunning series has garnered its fair share of fans, and it's not hard to see why -- the absorbing performances, cinematography and exploration of mature topics make this show shine. If nothing else, stick around to see Dune star Zendaya, who plays teenager Rue. Seacia Pavao/Max Julia (2022-23) Following the life of television chef and cookbook writer Julia Child, this drama doles out a generous serving of humor and charm (and delicious-looking food, of course). Sarah Lancashire is endlessly watchable as the famed American cook, who paved the way for future cooking shows with her long-running series The French Chef. Two seasons are available on the streamer now. Animation Max Creature Commandos (2024- ) This engaging DC series from James Gunn examines the backstories of a ragtag team of monsters put together for dangerous missions. From Frankenstein's bride to a Nazi-targeting robot to a creature resembling both a human and a furry animal, the Creature Commandos are a motley crew worth spending violent, unhinged time with. The series is the first in Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC Universe, and it's already renewed for season 2. Max Harley Quinn (2019- ) Harley Quinn is an adult-oriented animated series that centers on the baseball bat-wielding antihero. Kaley Cuoco voices the mayhem-prone Harley, who in the first episode breaks up with the Joker and tells him she's going to replace him as the top villain in Gotham. The hilarious, action-packed show also features characters like Poison Ivy, and four seasons are available to binge. It premiered on the DC Universe streaming service before moving to HBO Max. Max Scavengers Reign (2023) An unusual alien world and the humans stranded on it are the subject of this spectacular sci-fi series on Max. The story follows characters marooned on a peculiar planet that's home to fascinating creatures and landscapes. The world is beautiful but also poses dangers to the human guests, who seek out their ship and fellow crew members. An expansion of a 2016 animated short film, Scavengers Reign is a compelling, 12-episode saga you won't be able to quit watching. Documentary HBO Telemarketers (2023) This docuseries provides an intriguing look at the world of telemarketing, starting the story in the early 2000s, when Sam Lipman-Stern began working at a New Jersey call center. Over the course of three hour-long episodes, Lipman-Stern and office buddy Pat Pespas learn the murky truth about the work they were doing and set out to uncover more about the industry -- a quest that eventually leads them to the halls of Congress. It's worth tuning into these amateur sleuth's unhinged, thought-provoking 20-year journey. Comedy Atsushi Nishijima/HBO Fantasmas (2024- ) Viewers have former Saturday Night Live writer Julio Torres to thank for this quirky and captivating HBO comedy. In episode 1 of the surreal series, an Alf-like sitcom takes a turn for the awkward and the letter "Q" gets a life story. Torres, also known for the HBO show Los Espookys and A24 film Problemista, stars as a version of himself, and guest actors include Steve Buscemi, Julia Fox, Emma Stone, Aidy Bryant and Bowen Yang. HBO The Rehearsal (2022- ) Nathan Fielder, best known for his Comedy Central show, Nathan For You (and cringe comedy), writes, directs and stars in this new HBO series. In the show, the comedian goes to extraordinary lengths to let people rehearse moments before they happen. In the first episode, Fielder helps a man prepare for a confession to a friend, and builds an exact replica of the bar they're planning to meet at (the attention to detail is incredible). After planning for any outlandish thing that might happen, we see how the real exchange between the two friends plays out. Bizarre and truly fascinating, The Rehearsal should get some time on your screen. Max Peacemaker (2022- ) Following the events of 2021's The Suicide Squad, this DC spinoff catches up with Peacemaker (John Cena), our towering, costume-clad protagonist who's just been released from the hospital. Peacemaker believes he's a superhero, but with his oft-repeated phrase about attaining "peace, no matter how many people I have to kill to get it," the title doesn't really suit him. The show establishes Peacemaker's next steps -- he isn't returning to prison, but instead taking part in a black ops mission that will (again) get his hands dirty. The show often lands its jokes, and you'll especially enjoy its entertaining supporting cast. Max The Sex Lives of College Girls (2021- ) Mindy Kaling co-created this dramedy about four 18-year-old girls who start their freshman year of college together in Vermont. With distinct personalities, the college newcomers navigate love and sex in their own ways. The show is funny, easily bingeable and bolstered by the chemistry between its female leads. A contemporary teen comedy showcasing messy experiences, relatable characters and raunchy jokes. Max Hacks (2021- ) The great Jean Smart rightfully takes the spotlight in this acclaimed comedy-drama series. Throwing iPads into swimming pools and delivering withering looks, Smart plays Deborah Vance, a legendary Las Vegas comedy diva who must face the prospect of appealing to a younger audience or disappearing into obscurity. She's partnered with Ava (Hannah Einbinder), a young and equally snarky comedy writer, to freshen up her material. Perfectly balancing its biting insight into how the comedy business treats women, with the warmth of an odd couple buddy comedy, Hacks is one of the best original series to come out of HBO Max. Ryan Green/HBO The Righteous Gemstones (2019- ) This outrageous series highlights a highly dysfunctional family of famous televangelists called the Gemstones. In the show's first season, a member of the family is blackmailed and ridiculous antics ensue. John Goodman stars as the family patriarch, Eli, and Danny McBride, Edi Patterson and Adam Devine also commit to the bit, pulling off an absurd and addictive black comedy. The third season of the show is out now, and HBO has renewed the series for a fourth. HBO Somebody Somewhere (2022-24) Like feel-good shows? Somebody Somewhere is a great option you may have skipped over. In the first episode, 40-something Sam, living in her Kansas hometown and dealing with a recent loss, strikes up a friendship with a co-worker. Authentic, funny, with glowing performances, the half-hour series is the perfect thing to wind down to. Max Rap Sh!t (2022-23) A half-hour comedy series from Issa Rae (the star and creator of HBO's acclaimed series Insecure), Rap Sh!t introduces two former friends from high school. Shawna is an aspiring, socially conscious rapper, and Mia is a make-up artist and single mother who works multiple jobs. By the end of the first episode, the young women (now in their 20s) have reconnected and filmed a mesmerizing rap video that takes off on the internet. The show's protagonists are phone-obsessed, constantly checking up on social media and recording videos, and it impacts the viewing experience in interesting ways. Jake Giles Netter/Max Our Flag Means Death (2022-23) In this comedy set on the high seas, Rhys Darby plays Stede Bonnet, an aristocrat who abandons his cushy life and family to become the captain of a pirate ship. Spoiler: He hilariously bumbles through the gig. Game of Thrones fans may spot Hodor actor Kristian Nairn hanging out among the crew, and the series also stars Taika Waititi as Blackbeard. Max Starstruck (2021-23) Starstruck is a classic screwball comedy, starring the lovably goofy Rose Matafeo. She plays Jessie, a twentysomething Londoner who parties it up on New Year's Eve, then later discovers she had a one-night stand with Tom Kapoor, a celebrity played by Nikesh Patel. Follow Jessie as she juggles odd jobs, from cinema worker to nanny, and her blossoming relationship with a film star that involves no high jinks whatsoever. Watch out for scene-stealer Minnie Driver as Tom's agent in this witty, neatly crafted comedy package. Max The Other Two (2019-23) The sibling rivalry is strong and primed for hilarity in this comedy from a couple of Saturday Night Live writers. Chris Kelly and Sarah Schneider tell the story of Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Helne Yorker), siblings in their late 20s who struggle with the sudden rise to internet fame of their 13-year-old Justin Bieber-channeling brother. Molly Shannon is a treat as their mother, Pat, ushering her children through open doors to success. Once you get over the gimmicky premise, The Other Two's pop culture satire and surprisingly heartfelt storylines are a winning combination. Schitt's Creek fans should give this a look. A new HBO The Last of Us Part 2 trailer is here and April can't come quickly enoughwww.eurogamer.netA new HBO The Last of Us Part 2 trailer is here and April can't come quickly enoughAll a-Cordyceps.Image credit: Naughty Dog / HBO / Eurogamer News by Vikki Blake Contributor Published on March 9, 2025 As we creep ever closer to 13th April, HBO has dropped an all-new teaser for the second season of its critically-acclaimed series, The Last of Us.Once again, the teaser shows just how closely the TV adaptation mirrors the game, with some scenes seemingly reenacted shot-for-shot from The Last of Us Part 2, including the barn dance and the hospital basement. Please note, there will be some story spoilers for The Last of Us Part 2 - and therefore potentially the show - below. The Last of Us Season 2 | Official Trailer | Max.Watch on YouTubeThe teaser is barely two minutes long, but it sure packs a lot in, giving us a peek at the Scars, the Washington Liberation Front (WLF) soldiers, and Nora, bathed in the blood-red light of the hospital basement. We also get brief glimpses of Dina and Jesse, a familiar-looking troop stomping through the snow on a mission, and the museum visit, too. To see this content please enable targeting cookies.Interestingly, we also see an Infected slowly exhaling a plume of spores into the air. Whilst much more in keeping with the original game narrative, it perhaps hints at how the Cordyceps infection has adapted to survive for the show's second season. As the words "Every path has a price" flash up towards the end of the video, Ellie looks at Joel in disbelief and says: "You swore".The second season of The Last of Us is set to kick off in the US on 13th April, and will comprise seven episodes, with one of those episodes being "quite big" in length. It remains unclear where the second season of The Last of Us will wrap up, but showrunner Craig Mazin has already confirmed it will not cover the entirety of Part 2's narrative. It will, however, feature a lot more infected than the first season.Last week, we learned Joe Pantoliano, Alanna Ubach, Ben Ahlers, Hettienne Park, Robert John Burke, and Noah Lamanna will all be joining Bella Ramsey's Ellie and Pedro Pascal's Joel when the second season airs next month.Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann recently cast doubt on the possibility of third The Last of Us game, telling fans, "Don't bet on there being more".0 Comments ·0 Shares ·61 Views

Broadband policy shift in the U.S. drops fiber priority, could funnel billions to Starlink | Critics denounce the move will lead to slower and less reliable Internetwww.techspot.comWhat just happened? The Trump administration has announced a significant shift in the $42.45 billion Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, eliminating the preference for fiber Internet infrastructure. This change is expected to redirect substantial funding towards non-fiber technologies, such as Elon Musk's Starlink satellite service, potentially allocating between $10 billion and $20 billion to such providers. This move marks a departure from the Biden administration's approach, which emphasized fiber-optic networks as the most future-proof and reliable option for broadband deployment. The BEAD program was authorized by Congress in November 2021, with the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) developing rules under the Biden administration. These rules prioritized end-to-end fiber-optic architecture due to its ability to be easily upgraded by replacing equipment at the ends of fiber-optic facilities. This approach also supports the deployment of 5G and other advanced wireless services, which rely heavily on fiber for backhaul. However, the Trump administration has criticized these rules as overly restrictive and ineffective.Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick has been vocal about the need for change, stating that the program has not connected anyone to the Internet due to "woke mandates, favoritism towards certain technologies, and burdensome regulations."The Trump administration is adopting a "tech-neutral" approach to provide Internet access at the lowest cost to taxpayers. This shift includes exploring ways to cut government red tape that slows down infrastructure construction to deliver high-speed Internet access efficiently and effectively. The decision to end the fiber preference has been criticized by Democrats and advocacy groups. House Commerce Committee Ranking Member Frank Pallone, Jr., accused Republicans of undermining efforts to deploy reliable and affordable broadband, labeling Elon Musk as a "grifter."The Benton Institute for Broadband & Society expressed concerns that the shift could leave millions with slower and less reliable Internet, as fiber broadband offers faster speeds, higher bandwidth, and symmetrical upload and download speeds, making it ideal for demanding applications like telehealth and gaming. // Related StoriesDespite these concerns, the Trump administration is moving forward with changes, aiming to reduce bureaucratic hurdles and expedite infrastructure construction. Republicans are also proposing legislative changes to eliminate what they see as burdensome conditions imposed by the Biden administration.Meanwhile, Starlink could benefit significantly from these changes, potentially gaining access to substantial funding through both the BEAD program and other federal initiatives. The Federal Communications Commission could also direct more money to Starlink through universal service programs, although the FCC is not directly involved in the BEAD program. The shift in policy has also raised questions about conflicts of interest, particularly given Elon Musk's role in the Trump administration. Recent reports suggest that Starlink could take over a $2 billion contract with the Federal Aviation Administration, although SpaceX has denied seeking to replace existing contracts. The FCC's newly appointed chairman, Brendan Carr, has expressed support for Starlink, potentially paving the way for future grant awards.0 Comments ·0 Shares ·60 Views

How to stop doomscrollingtechcrunch.comThe world is bad sometimes, but it feels even worse if you cant stop staring into the all-consuming abyss that is the 6-inch screen of a smartphone, following you through space and time. It taunts you with its compact, light build thats small enough to slip into your pocket and take anywhere yet its siren call is so strong that for some reason, we cannot sleep without our phone on our nightstands. As we weather the horrors around us, it may occur to you that you would feel calmer and more attentive and balanced if you did not pick up your phone dozens of times a day to doomscroll. Its messing with our brains to intersperse our day with glimpses into the most extreme, engagement-baiting TikToks, only to flip over to X or Bluesky and see crushing news headlines.Like any bad habit, doomscrolling is hard to kick. But its not hopeless or at least, I hope it isnt. So, how do you stop doomscrolling? Its not all that easy, but at the very least, we have some ideas about how you can set yourself up for success.Understand that this isnt your faultFirst of all, you arent the problem. The problem is that our lives have become so deeply intertwined with tech companies that are looking to capture as much of our time as possible. If I use my Apple Watch to track a workout, I end up seeing text messages crop up while Im trying to catch my breath after running up a steep hill. If I go on Spotify to listen to a specific album, I open the app and immediately see recommendations for podcasts and audiobooks that Im not typically interested in. Or if I download Snapchat solely for a group chat where my friends send pictures of their pets, then each pet picture comes with some advertisement, extraneous push notification, or AR marketing filter that I didnt sign up for. Its no wonder that our phones make us feel crazy.I dont believe that Mark Zuckerberg is sitting in his lair probably within his metaverse dreaming up ways to personally make my life worse. But it is the inherent nature of consumer tech companies: Our attention is what keeps them afloat, and the more we pay attention to them, the happier their investors are, and the stock prices rise, and so on. Even with the knowledge of how these companies operate, its still difficult to break our bad habits. I will still open my Instagram account to see what my friend sent me, only to regain my consciousness 10 minutes later after Ive watched dozens of Reels.Set up screen time limits, and take them seriouslyFor the first several years after Apple introduced the Screen Time feature on iPhones, I chose deliberately not to turn it on I was afraid of what I might learn about myself. But that fear in itself told me that I have a problem. Knowledge is power, and if we know which apps are sucking up most of our time, then we can curb how much time we spend on them.Heres how to set screen time limits for specific apps on iOS:Open the Settings app.Scroll down to Screen Time, which is denoted with an hourglass icon. Here, you can see your daily average screen time and set guardrails for yourself to hopefully lower that average.Under Limit Usage, there are a few different ways you can reduce your screen time: downtime and app limits.Downtime sets a schedule of when you can use certain apps. Maybe you set downtime for the hours you usually sleep, or maybe you create a more customizable day-to-day schedule. If you find yourself going on Instagram during class too much, maybe thats a time to set a limit.Rather than choosing which apps to limit during downtime, you set which apps you want to always allow, which is also accessible under the Limit Usage menu. If you have friends and family abroad, for example, you probably want to make sure that you can always access WhatsApp. Or, if youre like me and sometimes need audiobooks to fall asleep, then maybe youll allow unlimited Libby access.App Limits is where you can set how much time you want to spend on certain apps per day. You could set individual limits for specific apps, or maybe you lump a category of apps together (Facebook, Instagram, Bluesky, TikTok, X, etc.) and set an overall time limit for those apps.Apples built-in Screen Time tools are effective, but theyre a bit easy to circumvent; if youre watching a great TikTok and suddenly get a pop-up that your time is up, you can just tap a button to give yourself another 15 minutes and then do the same thing after another 15 minutes go by.Some people opt to use third-party apps to motivate them to reduce their screen time, which can address potential pitfalls of Apples existing functionality. Here are some apps that are designed to limit your screen time:ScreenZen, available on iOS and Android, lets you create pop-ups that appear before you open certain apps. So, before you open Instagram, for example, you may see a 10-second pop-up that reads, Is this important? You can also have the app prompt you to take deep breaths before opening apps, and it gamifies your success at remaining under time limits. My friend is currently working with a 144-day streak, which they refuse to sacrifice for one quick jolt of ill-timed dopamine.Opal, available on iOS, Android, and the web, focuses more specifically on boosting productivity at work or at school. The app is more customizable in limiting screen time than Apples built-in features. You can focus not just on times, but also on how often you open an app (e.g., maybe you only want to open the Instagram app three times a day).Roots, available on iOS, doesnt just focus on how much time youre spending on your phone, but also on the quality of that time. Some users especially love the apps Monk Mode, which can be activated to make it impossible to bypass any of its app limits even if you go as far as deleting the app. But if youve been really diligent with your limits, you can unlock cheat days.We rounded up some physical devices that can help you stop looking at screens too much. So, youve opened TikTok and your screen time limits have denied you access, but now you dont know what to do. Maybe youre standing in line at the coffee shop and need a distraction. And sure, in an ideal world, we could simply be bored without spontaneously combusting, but this isnt an ideal world. Here are some other things you can do on your phone that do not involve social media:Read a book. No, really. On apps like iBooks and Kindle, you can change your settings so that you scroll to read a book, instead of flipping page by page. Youre literally scrolling, but instead, maybe youll learn something.Dont want to buy books? You dont have to! Libby connects with your library card to let you access e-books and audiobooks from your phone.Dont know what to read? Im so sorry, but you might have to go figure it out on BookTok.Play games. Sure, games can be addicting, too, but at least games wont inform you that the world has imploded in a new, unexpected way. Every app copies every other app, but in the case of bite-sized, once-per-day games, this is a good thing. The New York Times Games app will let you play quick games like Wordle, Strands, and the Mini Crossword, even if you arent a subscriber. But the Gray Ladys games have been so successful that other apps are taking the bait.Hear me out. The games on LinkedIn are actually really fun. Sure, you may get jump-scared by a post from your old, bad boss, but Tango in particular is worth the risk.0 Comments ·0 Shares ·68 Views

Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum by Safdie Architectsarcheyes.comYad Vashem Holocaust History Museum | Andrew Shiva, CC 4.0Architecture has long played a crucial role in shaping historical consciousness, particularly in commemoration and collective remembrance spaces. The Yad Vashem Holocaust History Museum, designed by Moshe Safdie, is a profound architectural response to one of the most devastating chapters in human history. Situated within the Yad Vashem Memorial Complex in Jerusalem, the museum does not merely house historical artifactsit embodies the weight of history itself.Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum Technical InformationArchitects1-5: Safdie ArchitectsLocation: Yad Vashem Memorial Complex, Mount Herzl, Jerusalem, IsraelTotal Area: 9,000m2 | 96,875Sq. It uses form, light, and materiality to evoke an emotional and intellectual engagement with the Holocausts lasting impact. Unlike traditional museum typologies, which often rely on exhibition spaces as neutral containers, the Yad Vashem Museum merges architecture and content, creating a physical and psychological journey that reinforces the historical gravity of its subject matter. The designs heart is a 9,000-square-meter prismatic concrete volume, partially embedded within Mount Herzls rugged landscape. This choice is both practical and symbolic: the museum is physically intertwined with the land, concealing much of its structure underground, reinforcing the metaphor of history being unearthed. The linear sequence of spaces takes visitors through a progressive narrative, guiding them from darkness to lighta spatial articulation of despair and hope.Upon entry, visitors descend into an elongated, compressed corridor, where the starkness of the concrete and the absence of natural light create an immediate sense of constriction and solemnity. The museums zigzagging path, interrupted by cavernous exhibition halls, fragments the journey, reflecting the disruption of lives during the Holocaust. These interruptions serve to disorient and demand active engagement, contrasting with traditional museums passive, linear viewing experience.Light becomes a key protagonist in this architectural narrative. Openings in the concrete envelope allow controlled shafts of natural light to punctuate the otherwise dimly lit spaces, heightening the dramatic interplay between illumination and shadow. The final moment of release comes at the Hall of Names, a cylindrical space containing a vast archive of Holocaust victims, culminating in a dramatic exit terrace overlooking Jerusalems skyline. This carefully orchestrated transition from subterranean darkness to open air is a powerful spatial resolution, allowing visitors to re-emerge into the present while carrying the weight of the past.Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum Structural ExpressionSafdies material selection is raw and restrained, emphasizing the permanence and austerity appropriate for a memorial of this magnitude. The museums exposed concrete structure asserts a sense of brutalist honesty, stripped of ornamentation yet deeply expressive. The materials rough texture and monolithic presence establish an architectural language that resists embellishment, aligning with the museums somber thematic intent. The structures prismatic wedge form is a technical featits integration within the hillside posed engineering challenges, requiring substantial structural reinforcement to resist both the lateral forces of the mountain and the thermal expansion of the exposed concrete shell. The materials thermal mass properties also contribute to internal climate control, reducing reliance on artificial conditioning systems.Beyond concrete, glass plays a pivotal role in framing moments of reflection. Enclosed by a dramatic glass facade, the hallway terminus at the exit terrace acts as a threshold between confinement and openness, reinforcing the emergence narrative. Here, the contrast between the weight of concrete and the fragility of glass is most pronouncedliterally and metaphorically, architecture becomes a conduit between past and future.Architectural and Ethical Considerations: Memory, Site, and InterpretationOne of the most compelling aspects of Yad Vashems architecture is its ability to negotiate between memorialization and education. Unlike the Jewish Museum Berlin by Daniel Libeskind, where the disjointed, void-like spaces serve as abstract metaphors for absence and loss, Safdies museum directs engagement through a more structured, didactic spatial sequence. Similarly, it contrasts with Peter Eisenmans Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, where repetition and abstraction leave interpretation open-ended.Safdies approach is neither abstract nor overly symbolicit is experiential, relying on spatial compression, material weight, and choreographed movement to shape understanding. The ethical question here lies in architectures role as witness and interpreter of history. While some critics argue that the buildings structured path imposes a specific reading of the Holocausts history, others contend that this approach ensures clarity and accessibility in an era where historical amnesia is a growing concern. Moreover, the decision to embed the museum within Jerusalems topography introduces a dialogue between site and memory. Unlike urban Holocaust museums within contemporary city fabrics, Yad Vashems setting reinforces its permanence and inextricable link to Israeli national identity. SUBSCRIBE TO KURTS THE CYBERGUY REPORT FOR FREE SECURITY ALERTS & TECH TIPS A person receiving a transfer alert scam text (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)Jane's alarming text: A textbook scam attemptJane wrote to us with the following concern:"I just got a text from Kinecta here in California that says, 'Transfer request of $950.44 to BRYANA WHITE has been approved. If you didn't authorize please visit (link here) to cancel now.' Is this a scam text? Should I be worried?"Excellent question, Jane! Your caution is commendable, and, yes, you should be concerned. Let's break down this scam attempt and see why it raises so many red flags. Kinecta scam text (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)Red flags: Spotting the scamJane's text message exhibits several telltale signs of a scam that everyone should be aware of:Urgency as a weapon: Scammers exploit our fear of financial loss to prompt hasty actions. They use phrases like, in this case, "Act now" or "Cancel Now" and warn of dire consequences if immediate action isn't taken. This urgency is designed to bypass rational thinking and prevent you from verifying the legitimacy of the request.Suspicious links: Legitimate banks avoid sending security-sensitive links via text. These links could download viruses to your device or lead you to a fake website designed to steal your personal information. Always verify the URL before entering any sensitive data.Specific yet unfamiliar details: The mention of "Bryana White" and the precise amount of $950.44 is a clever tactic. Scammers often use specific details to create an illusion of legitimacy, even when these details are unfamiliar to the recipient. This approach aims to instill doubt and urgency, increasing the chances that the victim will act hastily.WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?Brand impersonation: Scammers often employ brand impersonation tactics, using similar logos, fonts and color schemes to create a facade of legitimacy. This deceptive strategy is designed to manipulate you into believing you are interacting with a trusted institution, thereby increasing the likelihood of falling for their scam.Unsolicited contact: Be wary of unexpected texts claiming to be from your bank, especially if you haven't signed up for text alerts.Spelling and grammatical errors: Look for mistakes in spelling, grammar or punctuation. Legitimate messages from banks are usually written by professionals and are free of errors.Requests for personal information: Scammers often ask you to "confirm" details like your account number or password. Legitimate banks never request sensitive information via text.Too good to be true offers: Be skeptical of messages promising large returns or unexpected windfalls.Pressure tactics: Scammers often use threatening language or impose tight deadlines to manipulate you into acting quickly without thinking. A person receiving a scam text (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)The scammer's playbook: Objectives unveiledThese digital deceivers have 3 clear goals in mind:Data theft: Luring you to fake websites to harvest login credentials.Malware distribution: Tricking you into downloading malicious software.Financial fraud: Manipulating you into revealing sensitive financial information. Illustration of a scammer at work (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)How to protect yourself from text scamsAs scammers become increasingly sophisticated, it's crucial to arm yourself with knowledge and take proactive steps to safeguard your personal information. Here are seven essential tips to help you stay protected:1. Never click suspicious links in text messages: In Jane's case, clicking the link could have led to a fake Kinecta website designed to steal her login credentials.2. Have strong antivirus software: This can help detect and block malicious software that might be downloaded if Jane had clicked on the scammer's link. The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe. Contact your bank directly using official channels: Jane should call Kinecta's official number to verify if there's any real issue with her account, rather than responding to the text.4. Report the text to your bank and forward it to 7726 (SPAM): By reporting this text, Jane can help Kinecta and her mobile carrier protect other customers from similar scams.5. Enable two-factor authentication(2FA) on your accounts: This extra layer of security could prevent scammers from accessing Jane's account even if they obtained her password.6. Use SMS filtering tools provided by your mobile carrier: These tools might have caught and flagged the suspicious "Kinect" text before it reached Jane's inbox.7. Invest in personal data removal services: This can help reduce the amount of personal information available online, making it harder for scammers to target Jane and you with personalized attacks in the future. While no service promises to remove all your data from the internet, having a removal service is great if you want to constantly monitor and automate the process of removing your information from hundreds of sites continuously over a longer period of time.Check out my top picks for data removal services here.Kurts key takeawaysRemember, legitimate financial institutions will never pressure you to act immediately or click on links in text messages. When in doubt, always reach out to your bank directly using official channels. Thank you, Jane, for bringing this to our attention. Your vigilance not only protected you but also helps educate others.
