• Forza Horizon 5 will require a Microsoft account on PS5
    www.theverge.com
The PS5 version of Forza Horizon 5 will require you to link a Microsoft account to your PlayStation Network account in order to play the game, according to a FAQ on the games official website. The FAQ says that players will be prompted to link the two the first time they load the game. And if you unlink later, you will be constrained to relinking to only that specific and originally linked Microsoft account. The requirement stings given that theres no cross-platform saving, so the progress you make in the PS5 version isnt reflected in the Xbox version. Its the same situation for the Steam version, as the FAQ points out. As the page also notes, Horizon 5 players will need a PlayStation Plus subscription to access the games multiplayer feature, and there are no plans for a disc release. When Forza Horizon 5 releases on the PS5 on April 29th, it will be the latest Xbox exclusive to make the leap to Sonys console, joining games like Sea of Thieves, which also requires you to link a Microsoft account before you can play.Gamers havent been keen on required account linking when Sony has done it in the past. The company actually removed a requirement for you to sign in with your PSN account for some PC versions of some games, including Helldivers 2 and, more recently, God of War Ragnark and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.

  • These Dreamy Mother-Daughter Beach Cottages Are Pure Magic
    www.countryliving.com
Blame it on the penny candy. Or the old hurricane oil lamps. Or the hand-dipped ice cream. Once Susan Hackley and her daughter, Daphne Berger, stepped inside the 160-year-old Brewster Store, a general store in the Massachusetts town of the same name, they were smitten. Thats what cemented us here, says Daphne of the emporium famous for its inventory of classic New England nostalgia. We quickly fell in love with how authentic it all felt.Daphne had been hunting for a house on Cape Cod where her family as well as her mother and her mothers husband could steal away together. Susan had fond memories of the area, having spent summers as a child in her familys little cottage by the ocean and later returning as a college student. I could never afford a place of my own on the Cape, but I always wanted my children to love the seashore, she says.Read McKendree for Country LivingDaphne Berger with daughter, Cassia, 4, and mother Susan HackleyA few years ago, when her father passed away suddenly, Daphne made finding a coastal getaway a priority, telling her mother, Life is too shortwere going to make this happen. What she hadnt planned on was finding not one cottage but two side by side, located just minutes from the beach. Daphne, her husband, and their three children would take the 700-square-foot home in front, which they named Daffodil Cottage, while Susan and her husband would stay in the 750-square-foot Lilac Cottage. Each of the cedar-clad 1920s Capes needed an interior facelift, so Daphne began creating mood boards on Pinterest, where she discovered interior designer Marynn Udvarhelyi of Wildflower Home, who helped bring her vision to life. I wanted both cottages to feel collected, Daphne says. The updates took cues from the original structures, with slight floor plan adjustments to better accommodate visitors. Most important, especially for Susan, are the memories the family is collecting here, in a place that has long been familiar to her. To be back here and realize how little has changed in 50 years is amazing, she says. This came late in life for me, and Im super, super grateful.Tour More Cozy Country Cottages:A Sunny Entry at Daffodil CottageRead McKendree for Country LivingDaphne Bergers shingled cottage Daffodil is just a bike ride from the beach where she and her family love to go on weekends.Dreamy Front PorchRead McKendree for Country LivingRead McKendree for Country LivingNext to the front door of Daffodil Cottage, a scalloped lantern sconce by Coleen and Company in an aged verdigris finish signals a warm welcome. • Apple reportedly planning feature-packed visionOS 3 update
    9to5mac.com
While we arent getting a new Apple Vision Pro model in 2025 as some may have hoped, Bloombergs Mark Gurman reports that Apple is planning a feature-packed release for visionOS 3 this year at WWDC.According to Mark Gurman, a second-generation version of Vision Pro with a new M-series chip is still in the pipeline, as well as cheaper versions of the headset. However, neither of these things will come to fruition in 2025, despite the fact that the current generation headset still uses 2022s M2 chipset, whichll be four years old by the time theres a refresh. However, despite Apples future headset plans sounding somewhat lackluster, its software plans certainly arent.Last month, Apple introduced visionOS 2.4 beta, bringing Apple Intelligence to the headset, as well as a much needed Vision Pro app for iPhone. It also introduces Spatial Gallery, and the company will release it to the public in April. As exciting as those features are, that isnt the end of it. Reportedly, visionOS 3 will be a pretty major update as well although Gurman is unfortunately light on details:All signs are pointing to the companys Vision Products Group shifting its resources to other form factors. But Apple cant just let the Vision Pro die out. It has invested too much andneeds to keep churning outthe devices visionOS updates (the third edition will be a pretty feature-packed release, Im told). While new hardware, especially if it were cheaper, would be very exciting it seems Apples priority is having visionOS be as robust as possible. This move will likely play off in the long run.My favorite Apple accessories on Amazon:Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Apples new A16 iPad may have a special trick up its sleeve
    9to5mac.com
Last week, Apple hit us with a little bit of a surprise, and introduced the new base-model iPad with an A16 chip. The new iPad wasnt much of a surprise, but the A16 chip certainly was. Rumors had long suggested that we should expect an A17 Pro chip, but that never came to fruition. However, the A16 chip might provide a special perk, one that assures the product can stay around at its $349 price tag in the short term.US-made A16 chipsLast year, Apple chipmaking partner TSMC begun producing 4nm chips in the US, at its new Arizona plant. Yields are lower than theyre achieving in Taiwan, but its certainly a strong start. TSMC began producing A16 chips at the Arizona plant, which seemed like a weird choice at the time, since it wasnt quite clear what product would use them:Apples A16 SoC [] is currently being manufactured at Phase 1 of TSMCs Fab 21 in Arizona in small, but significant, numbers, my sources tell me. Volume will ramp up considerably when the second stage of the Phase 1 fab is completed and production is underway, putting the Arizona project on track to hit its target for production in the first-half of 2025.However, now we know. Apple hadnt been planning for the iPad 11 to support Apple Intelligence, making it a perfect test-bed for these new US manufactured A16 chips. The report even initially stated that volume production would begin in the first half of this year, aligning perfectly with the new iPad 11 launch. While Apple hasnt confirmed whether or not the iPad 11 uses these US-manufactured A16 chips, it seems probable that it is being used to some degree. Otherwise, there wouldnt be a product to put these chips in other than iPhone 15s, which are likely ramping down in production. On top of that, as highlighted by Bloombergs Mark Gurman, using US-made A16 chips in the new iPad would actually be a strategic play. Given the looming threats of tariffs from the Trump administration, Apple could likely get some sort of exemption, since the chip is US-built. This would secure Apples margins on one of its most affordable products, and likely prevent any sort of price hike.Of course, tariff news has been very back-and-forth, and whether or not we see any sort of long-lasting tariffs is still up in air. Nonetheless, it certainly cant hurt Apple to say they (likely) have a product using American-made silicon for the very first time.My favorite Apple accessories on Amazon:Follow Michael:X/Twitter,Bluesky,InstagramAdd 9to5Mac to your Google News feed. • Scientists Intrigued by Galactic Structure That's 1.4 Billion Light-Years Wide
    futurism.com
Scientists say they've uncovered the "largest known galactic structure" a cosmic monster that spans a mind-boggling 1.4 billion light-years, which is around 14,000 times the diameter of our own Milky Way galaxy. The team, led by scientists from the Max Planck Institute for Physics, made the discovery after analyzing data as part of the ROSAT X-ray satellite sky survey. They found that the structure dubbed "Quipu" after strings with knots used by the Incas for bookkeeping stretched across huge swathes of the night sky. The team believes it's largely composed of dark matter, the invisible substance believed to account for 85 percent of all mass in the universe. The finding could have considerable implications for our understanding of the larger structures lurking in the universe and how to accurately map them."If you look at the distribution of the galaxy clusters in the sky in a spherical shell with a distance of 416 to 826 million light-years, you immediately notice a huge structure that stretches from high northern latitudes to almost the southern end of the sky," said project lead and Max Planck Institute associate professor Hans Bhringer in a statement.Quipu's immense length appears to break the previous recordset by the "Sloan Great Wall," which stretches around 1.1 billion light years in a much more distant part of the universe. But as Live Science points out, there might be even larger structures still, such as the Hercules Corona-Borealis Great Wall, a superstructure that spans an estimated 10 billion light-years across, another 10 billion light-years from Earth. Whether it indeed exists, however, remains a topic of contention among scientists. For their latest study, accepted for publication in the journal Astronomy and Astrophysics, the Max Planck team analyzed an expansive catalogue of galaxy clusters, which was created using data collected by the Max Planck Institute for extraterrestrial Physics' ROSAT X-ray satellite in 1990.Apart from Quipu, the team also discovered three other superstructures they're calling the Serpens-Corona Borealis, the Hercules, and the Sculptor-Pegasus.In addition to Quipu and the Shapley supercluster, a concentration of galaxies in our nearby universe, the five structures contain an estimated 25 percent of all the matter in the observable universe, according to the researchers, or 13 percent of its volume. The team argued in its paper that the findings could be "important for astrophysical research," such as the "study of the environmental dependence of galaxy evolution as well as for precision tests of cosmological models."The researchers also suggest these superstructures won't stick around forever."In the future cosmic evolution, these superstructures are bound to break up into several collapsing units," they concluded in their paper. "They are thus transient configurations. But at present they are special physical entities with characteristic properties and special cosmic environments deserving special attention."More on superstructures: Scientists Working to Explain "Superstructures" on Ocean FloorShare This Article

  • Weird New Computer Runs AI on Captive Human Brain Cells
    futurism.com
Australian startup Cortical Labs has launched what it's calling the "worlds first code deployable biological computer."The shoe box-sized device, dubbed CL1, is a notable departure from a conventional computer, and uses human brain cells to run fluid neural networks. In 2022, Cortical Labs made a big splash after teaching human brain cells in a petri dish how to play the video game "Pong."The CL1, however, is a fundamentally different approach, as New Atlas reports. It makes use of hundreds of thousands of tiny neurons, roughly the size of an ant brain each, which are cultivated inside a "nutrient rich solution" and spread out across a silicon chip, according to the company's website.Through a combination of "hard silicon and soft tissue," the company claims that owners can "deploy code directly to the real neurons" to "solve today's most difficult challenges.""A simple way to describe it would be like a body in a box, but it has filtration for waves, it has where the media is stored, it has pumps to keep everything circulating, gas mixing, and of course temperature control," Cortical Labs chief science officer Brett Kagan told New Atlas late last year.Whether it will actually prove useful remains to be seen, but Kagan is excited for scientists to get their hands on the tech."There's so many different options," he told Australian broadcaster ABC News, suggesting it could be used for "disease modelling, or drug testing.""The large majority of drugs for neurological and psychiatric diseases that enter clinical trial testing fail, because theres so much more nuance when it comes to the brain but you can actually see that nuance when you test with these tools," Kagan told New Atlas. "Our hope is that were able to replace significant areas of animal testing with this."For now, the company is selling the device as a way to train "biological AI," meaning neural networks that rely on actual neurons. In other words, the neurons can be "taught" via the silicon chip."The only thing that has 'generalized intelligence'... are biological brains," Kagan told ABC. "What humans, mice, cats and birds can do [that AI can't] is infer from very small amounts of data and then make complex decisions."But the CL1 isn't about to disrupt the entire AI field overnight."We're not here to try and replace the things that the current AI methods do well," Kagan added.Nonetheless, the approach could have some key advantages. For instance, the neurons only use a few watts of power, compared to infamously power-hungry AI chips that require orders of magnitude more than that.Apart from selling the CL1, Cortical Labs is also looking to sell compute via the cloud, using its own assembled racks of the unusual computers. In short, while it sounds like an exciting new take on conventional computers, Cortical Labs still has a lot to prove, especially when it comes to teaching neurons not unlike an AI."I know where it's coming from, because it is clear that these human neuronal networks learn remarkably fast," University of Queensland biologist and stem cell research specialist Ernst Wolvetang told ABC."At this stage I would like to reserve my judgement, because, learning Pong is one thing, but making complex decisions is another," he added.More on Cortical Labs: Researchers Teach Human Brain Cells in a Dish to Play "Pong"Share This Article

This smart doorbell camera offers great video quality and comes bundled with a Sync Module 2 hub at no extra cost. First, it comes with a Sync Module 2, a tiny plug-in hub device which allows you to use local video storage and helps with settings management. That means you dont have to get a subscription plan for video storage, allowing you to save more money over time if you prefer. Second, the Amazon cam uses Blinks excellent power management to help make its batteries last as long as two years before they'll need to be replaced. Of course, that depends on activations and use, but its still a particularly long time for a video doorbell.Blinks affordable doorbell also includes features we think a video doorbell really needs, such as two-way audio and Alexa support, though other smart home platforms have little to no compatibility. You also have an option to wire the doorbell if you dont want to worry about battery management. Its too bad that its person detection feature is locked behind a subscription, but thats our only major complaint for such an affordable option. CNET Score Breakdown 7.6 /10 SCORE CNET score (out of10) 7.6 If youre interested in savings more than anything, this Kasa video doorbell starts at $40, so its your best option for saving a lot of money. That makes the high 2K resolution even more impressive, especially since video doorbells dont often go so high for video quality. Kasa also has the welcome addition of subscription-based video storage and a local storage option (though youll need to buy a microSD card for the latter). The doorbell works with both Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant and comes with its own chime accessory to set up a separate, in-house chime noise. Since this doorbell is wired in, thats not always necessary but its a nice addition to have, especially if there are parts of your home where you can't hear the doorbell. The 160-degree diagonal field of view is also very good, making this a good option for large front yards. Person detection is free, but we do wish the model had package detection as well. $80 at Arlo Though its more expensive than some of our other picks, this Arlo Essential Doorbell still falls under $100 at full price. Were choosing a battery model for this pick because we like the versatility it offers, especially if your previous doorbell location wasnt a great place for a camera. However, there is a wired model available for much less. On the other side, if you dont mind paying around $20, you can upgrade to the second-gen model with more-advanced features, but we think the first-gen model is a good balance for a budget pick.In addition to two-way audio and night vision, this camera has an unusually large horizontal field of view at 180 degrees, so it can safely double as a front yard security camera in the right spot. While Arlo does offer person, package, vehicle and animal detection, those features are unfortunately locked behind a subscription, which starts at $8 per month.

Tesla Sales Fall Off A Cliff Globally, Including Germany, Australia, And China German sales were down by a massive 76.3% last month, with Australia posting a similar 71.9% decline https://www.carscoops.com/author/bradcarscoops-com/ by Brad AndersonMarch 6, 2025 at 09:53 html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd"Tesla sales in Germany plunged by 59.5% in January 2025 and 76.3% in February. In Australia, the EV makers deliveries dropped 65.5% in the first two months of 2025.Teslas February 2025 sales in China fell 49.16%, signaling a market share decline.Tesla was proudly proclaiming less than a year ago that it would be selling 20 million electric vehicles annually by 2030. Fast forward to today, and things have taken a sharp downturn. After seemingly abandoning this lofty goal mid-2024, the company has also seen its first annual sales decline in a decade. Now, Teslas sales are continuing to slide in several major markets, including Germany, Australia, and, of course, China.Earlier this week, we reported that Tesla sales in Norway collapsed by 44.4% through January and February, despite the countrys overall EV market growing by 53.4%. Things are even worse in Germany. New data from the KBA Germanys Federal Motor Transport Authority shows that in January 2025, Tesla sales plummeted by 59.5%, with just 1,277 new cars registered in the country.Read: Tesla Sales Crash Up To 63% In European Markets, Is Musk Or New Model Y To Blame? The situation only worsened in February. Sales were down a staggering 76.3% compared to February 2024, with just 1,429 units sold. Through January and February, Tesla has delivered 2,706 vehicles in Germany, marking a massive 70.6% drop from the same period last year. Teslas decline is even more pronounced when you consider that overall BEV sales in Germany climbed 30.8% in February.Aussie SlowdownAustralia isnt much better. Data from the nations Electric Vehicle Council shows that Tesla shifted 1,592 vehicles in February, a massive 71.9% decline from the 5,665 sold in February 2024. Through the first two months of the year, Tesla delivered 2,331 vehicles to Australians, a 65.5% decline from the 6,772 vehicles sold over the same two months in 2024. Its worth mentioning that the highly anticipated, heavily updated Model Y has just started being sold in Australiathough only in the premium (A$73,400) Launch Edition variant, with the standard version still unavailable. So, the sales slump isnt entirely surprising. Even so, the outgoing Model Y saw a 55.4% decline, shifting only 924 units. Meanwhile, sales of the refreshed Model 3 are down a dramatic 81.4%, with just 668 cars sold. It seems Australians arent quite as eager to embrace the Tesla dream as they once were.Chinese Struggles And then theres China, where things are also looking grim for Tesla in one of its most important markets worldwide. Preliminary data from Chinas Passenger Car Association reveals that Tesla built and sold 30,688 vehicles in February 2025a 49.16% drop from the 60,365 cars moved in February 2024. This total includes both domestic sales and exports, but its clear that Teslas Chinese market share is shrinking. When you factor in competition from local EV manufacturers, the picture becomes even murkier. Its safe to say that Teslas global growth trajectory has hit some roadblocks. While the company remains a leader in the electric vehicle space, its once-unassailable dominance in key markets is showing signs of distress. Whether its product fatigue, the controversial nature of its CEO, market saturation, or just bad timingespecially with the transition surrounding its best-selling vehicle, the Model Y, the shine is definitely starting to wear off.
