• Retroid says it will accept limited Pocket Mini returns due to screen scaling issue
    www.engadget.com
After months of Retroid Pocket Mini buyers reporting issues with the appearance of games when using shaders, Retroid has opened a new return window for people seeking a refund. But there are limitations. Per a screenshot shared by Retro Game Corps, the China-based company said in a Discord message that the return window will be open only from March 8 to March 14, only 200 overseas returns will be accepted and customers will have to pay for shipping. As consolation, the company is offering all owners a $10 stackable coupon for the upcoming Retroid Flip2 and Retroid Classic.Retroid released a statement about the RP Mini screen issue:- March 8-14 return window for those affected- Returns capped to 200 units to limit a flood of returns for unrelated reasons- Asking customer to pay return shipping- $10 stackable coupon for all RP Mini customers pic.twitter.com/UpLN9rPL3a Retro Game Corps (@RetroGameCorps) March 8, 2025 Retroid Pocket Mini owners have been trying to get to the bottom of the issue since shortly after the devices release last fall. As RetroHandhelds explains, The shader issue is mostly only noticeable when specific CRT shaders are applied to older games. Users can expect to see misplaced scanlines, uneven pixels, or a slightly distorted image in such cases. After much back and forth, the company recently said the issue cant be fixed, linking it to the screen driver, Discord screenshots shared by RetroHandhelds show.Prior to the latest update from Retroid, some buyers said their return requests were denied. In the Discord message this weekend, the company said, Please note that this is a large and costly endeavor for our team, and we expect a lot of return requests outside of screen-related issues. Further down, it added, For users who do not heavily rely on CRT shaders or pixel grid effects, we encourage you to reserve this opportunity for those who genuinely need it.This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/gaming/retroid-says-it-will-accept-limited-pocket-mini-returns-due-to-screen-scaling-issue-183143391.html?src=rss

  • Modular photography kit transforms the iPhone 16 Pro into a retro camera
    www.yankodesign.com
Weve seen quite a few interesting designs at MWC 2025 that tried to solve one of the remaining problems of mobile photography. Whether its a standalone lens and sensor that you magnetically stick to the back of a Xiaomi phone or a Realme smartphone that has a mount for gigantic DSLR lenses, there is definitely a renewed focus, pardon the pun, in upgrading the camera experience without ruining the slim and sleek designs of smartphones. While they might be slightly different implementations with the same goal in mind, both designs have one thing in common: theyre designed specifically for Android phones. On the flip side, iPhones have a long history of photography accessories that try to improve camera output with modular lenses and cases. This new photography kit, however, takes that camera experience to the next level by almost literally transforming the iPhone 16 Pro into a vintage camera with lens mounts, cold shoe mounts, and leather grips.Designer: FotorgearThere is no shortage of small lenses that try to attach to an iPhones camera to make up for its weaknesses. Some even come with a dedicated case to make sure the same lenses can work on different iPhone models, at least those with the same camera layout. Although it only works for the iPhone 16 Pro, Fotorgears modular Retro Photography Kit goes all out on replicating the classic camera experience, without the hassle of dealing with actual film. The kit is composed of a thin case that tightly wraps around the iPhone 16 Pro and serves as the foundation for all other parts. Even this alone already gives the phone a retro appearance thanks to the textured surface that recreates materials used on professional cameras and two metal frames for the phones sides. It makes the iPhone look quite distinctive but it doesnt stop there, of course. Attach the Retro Bar on top to have physical knobs, a dial, and a shutter to complete that retro feel. The kit also includes a standalone cold shoe mount so you can attach tiny mics for more professional-sounding recordings. Theres also a mount for physical filters, while the frame itself is compatible with the brands T-mount lenses for more options. And theres a Retro Leather Handle that you can slip in for a more ergonomic grip, completing the look and feel of a vintage camera. The FotorGear Retro Photography Kit definitely looks the part, though youll have to make a few concessions along the way. That grip doesnt have any battery, for example, so you miss out on the opportunity to extend the iPhones uptime. The physical controls for the camera are, of course, driven by Bluetooth, which means potential latency between each click. Youll also have to take off some of those modular parts afterward because your already large iPhone 16 Pro will barely be usable as a phone until you do.The post Modular photography kit transforms the iPhone 16 Pro into a retro camera first appeared on Yanko Design.

  • Master & Dynamic ME05 earbuds review
    www.macworld.com
MacworldAt a glanceExpert's RatingProsExcellent sound qualitySmart, sturdy brass earpieceLots of ear-tipsConsNo ANCFairly expensiveOur Verdict People that prefer wired headphones or earbuds for listening to hi-res music will find that the ME05 provides high-quality sound at a competitive price.Price When ReviewedThis value will show the geolocated pricing text for product undefinedBest Pricing TodayMaster & Dynamic makes some great wireless headphones and earbuds, including the excellent but rather expensive over-ear MW75 (included in our round up of over-ear headphones) which includes both wired and wireless options. However, it recently released the new ME05 earbuds, which are completely wired and quite a bit more affordable than the MW75. Somewhat oddly, the price varies depending on where youre based. In the U.S., the ME05 is available in four different colours, which all have the same price at $199. However, prices vary in the U.K. and other regions, starting at 169 for the gunmetal (grey) and palladium (silver) models, while the gold and white models cost 196. Thats still relatively expensive for a set of wired earbuds, but M&Ds classy design shines through, as well as providing excellent sound quality for people who prefer a traditional wired design over the compromises of Bluetooth and wireless audio. And, as M&D states on its website, the wired design also means that its one less thing to charge.See how the Master & Dynamic ME05 compares to other wired earphones we have tested. The ME05 was originally launched way back in 2015, but M&D decided that it needed a bit of a revamp in order to bring it up to date with the latest audio technologies, such as the use of USB-C for wired audio. The external design hasnt changed much, with the main body of each earpiece still made out of brass, which is both smart and sturdy, and also helps to reduce distortion that might affect the sound quality. Inside the earbuds are 8mm drivers made out of bio-cellulose a thin and light material that is similar to paper, but is produced as a by-product of growing bacteria in a lab (which sounds slightly gross, but the lightweight material is widely used in headphones and earbuds as it provides very good sound quality at both high and low frequencies).Ive always preferred wired earbuds, but one disadvantage is that the cables can turn into an irritating spaghetti mess at times. Thankfully, though, the cable on the ME05 is made out of thick tangle-free rubber that lets you just pick up the earbuds and quickly plug them in without spending 10 minutes unravelling the cable first. The original ME05 from 2015 just had a standard 3.5mm headphone connector, but Apple killed off the 3.5mm connector with the iPhone 7 in 2016, so the cable provided with this new model includes both a 3.5mm connector and a USB-C adaptor for the latest iPhones and iPads and other mobile devices. Theres a good set of accessories included too, with a canvas carrying pouch, five sets of silicone rubber ear-tips in different sizes, and two sets of memory foam ear-tips as well. Theres no Lightning adaptor, though, so owners of older iPhones and iPads will need to provide their own adaptor (Apples own Lightning adaptor has been discontinued in the U.S., unfortunately, although it still seems to be on sale in the U.K. and some other regions). Sound quality is excellent, as I stream the hi-res version of Sing Along by Sturgill Simpson from Apple Music. The track is a riotous mash-up of rock guitars, EDM keyboards and Simpsons country twang, but the ME05 balances the dense sound perfectly even at full volume. Wired headphones often seem to have a little more power than Bluetooth, and theres a real head-banging energy to the grinding guitar, while the dance keyboards fly through the air like fireworks. The ME05 still manages to pick out lighter details though, including the precise, ticking percussion that drives the song forward, and the bass drop towards the end lands like a punch in the gut. That beefy bass works well for dance tracks too, and the deep, electronic bass on Bad Guy by Billie Eilish has a taut, firm rhythm thats hard to resist. The ME05 is equally at home with classical sounds. It shows the lightest of touches for delicate harp that opens Max Richters Sarajevo, but the entrance of soprano Sarah Leonard cuts through with piercing clarity and emotional power. The martial blast of horns brings an ominous mood to the piece, like an oncoming storm, and then the ME05 unleashes the storm as the full BBC Philharmonic erupts in a powerful swirl of strings. The only thing missing is support for active noise-cancellation (ANC), which could be a problem for some users. Should You Buy The Master & Dynamic ME05?If you prefer the convenience of wireless headphones then the old-school wired design of the ME05 probably wont suit you. And, of course, the lack of noise-cancellation may be a deal-breaker for travellers who need good ANC. But people that prefer wired headphones or earbuds for listening to hi-res music will find that the ME05 provides high-quality sound at a competitive price.

  • The Witcher 4s Ciri is Like Liquid Compared to Geralts Blockiness, Says CD Projekt RED
    gamingbolt.com
A new Witcher saga will begin when The Witcher 4 launches (sometime in the future). Though Geralt of Rivia will appear, Ciri is in the spotlight this time, bringing her own monster-slaying style to the forefront. CD Projekt RED has also spoken about how much faster, more agile she is than Geralt and expanded on this in the AnsweRED podcast.Referring to Ciris stylish killing blow from the reveal trailer, senior communications manager Pawel Burza said, You dont see Geralt doing these things. Hes nimble, but he feels like a block in some sense. Shes like liquid compared to him. Game director Sebastian Kalemba also noted how she moves like she was raised by wolves in Kaer Morhen, based on her personality, her posture and stuff.Ciri can wield more potent magic, as seen with her usage of Bolt in the trailer, but the developer is ensuring she isnt overpowered. Something occurred between The Witcher 3 and 4 that resulted in her current skill set, though details are still pending.Regardless, CD Projekt RED is looking to provide more player agency, citing lessons learned from Cyberpunk 2077s build variety. While more details are pending, it wants to give players more opportunities to feel that they define their experience. The Witcher 4 lacks a release date (understandably, since it entered full production in November 2024), but its coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC. Recently, the developer clarified that Ciris model remained unchanged in its behind-the-scenes video. Head here for more details.

The 20th anniversary of the God of War franchise is imminent. Gallery Nucleus is holding an exhibition to celebrate and recently announced a second panel and signing for March 22nd. Dont get your hopes up for any potential announcements, though.Sony Santa Monica said the panel would feature a selection of the Greek and Norse cast to reflect on the entire series. However, it added, With such a stellar lineup and all the anticipation weve seen around the anniversary, we want to be clear that there are no planned announcements for this event. This might be disappointing for some fans expecting announcements regarding the rumored God of War trilogy remaster. Then, there are reports of the next title set in Greece with younger Kratos as the protagonist. While Sony could still tease the remaster before the event, its looking highly unlikely. And thus, the speculation continues. On the bright side, there may be a proper PlayStation Showcase sometime this Summer. • A Step by Step Guide to Build a Trend Finder Tool with Python: Web Scraping, NLP (Sentiment Analysis & Topic Modeling), and Word Cloud Visualization
    www.marktechpost.com
Monitoring and extracting trends from web content has become essential for market research, content creation, or staying ahead in your field. In this tutorial, we provide a practical guide to building your trend-finding tool using Python. Without needing external APIs or complex setups, youll learn how to scrape publicly accessible websites, apply powerful NLP (Natural Language Processing) techniques like sentiment analysis and topic modeling, and visualize emerging trends using dynamic word clouds.import requestsfrom bs4 import BeautifulSoup# List of URLs to scrapeurls = ["https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_language_processing", "https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_learning"] collected_texts = [] # to store text from each pagefor url in urls: response = requests.get(url, headers={"User-Agent": "Mozilla/5.0"}) if response.status_code == 200: soup = BeautifulSoup(response.text, 'html.parser') # Extract all paragraph text paragraphs = [p.get_text() for p in soup.find_all('p')] page_text = " ".join(paragraphs) collected_texts.append(page_text.strip()) else: print(f"Failed to retrieve {url}")First with the above code snippet, we demonstrate a straightforward way to scrape textual data from publicly accessible websites using Pythons requests and BeautifulSoup. It fetches content from specified URLs, extracts paragraphs from the HTML, and prepares them for further NLP analysis by combining text data into structured strings.import reimport nltknltk.download('stopwords')from nltk.corpus import stopwordsstop_words = set(stopwords.words('english'))cleaned_texts = []for text in collected_texts: # Remove non-alphabetical characters and lower the text text = re.sub(r'[^A-Za-z\s]', ' ', text).lower() # Remove stopwords words = [w for w in text.split() if w not in stop_words] cleaned_texts.append(" ".join(words))Then, we clean the scraped text by converting it to lowercase, removing punctuation and special characters, and filtering out common English stopwords using NLTK. This preprocessing ensures the text data is clean, focused, and ready for meaningful NLP analysis.from collections import Counter# Combine all texts into one if analyzing overall trends:all_text = " ".join(cleaned_texts)word_counts = Counter(all_text.split())common_words = word_counts.most_common(10) # top 10 frequent wordsprint("Top 10 keywords:", common_words)Now, we calculate word frequencies from the cleaned textual data, identifying the top 10 most frequent keywords. This helps highlight dominant trends and recurring themes across the collected documents, providing immediate insights into popular or significant topics within the scraped content.!pip install textblobfrom textblob import TextBlobfor i, text in enumerate(cleaned_texts, 1): polarity = TextBlob(text).sentiment.polarity if polarity > 0.1: sentiment = "Positive " elif polarity < -0.1: sentiment = "Negative " else: sentiment = "Neutral " print(f"Document {i} Sentiment: {sentiment} (polarity={polarity:.2f})")We perform sentiment analysis on each cleaned text document using TextBlob, a Python library built on top of NLTK. It evaluates the overall emotional tone of each documentpositive, negative, or neutraland prints the sentiment along with a numerical polarity score, providing a quick indication of the general mood or attitude within the text data.from sklearn.feature_extraction.text import CountVectorizerfrom sklearn.decomposition import LatentDirichletAllocation# Adjust these parametersvectorizer = CountVectorizer(max_df=1.0, min_df=1, stop_words='english')doc_term_matrix = vectorizer.fit_transform(cleaned_texts)# Fit LDA to find topics (for instance, 3 topics)lda = LatentDirichletAllocation(n_components=3, random_state=42)lda.fit(doc_term_matrix)feature_names = vectorizer.get_feature_names_out()for idx, topic in enumerate(lda.components_): print(f"Topic {idx + 1}: ", [vectorizer.get_feature_names_out()[i] for i in topic.argsort()[:-11:-1]])Then, we apply Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA)a popular topic modeling algorithmto discover underlying topics in the text corpus. It first transforms cleaned texts into a numerical document-term matrix using scikit-learns CountVectorizer, then fits an LDA model to identify the primary themes. The output lists the top keywords for each discovered topic, concisely summarizing key concepts in the collected data.# Assuming you have your text data stored in combined_textfrom wordcloud import WordCloudimport matplotlib.pyplot as pltimport nltkfrom nltk.corpus import stopwordsimport renltk.download('stopwords')stop_words = set(stopwords.words('english'))# Preprocess and clean the text:cleaned_texts = []for text in collected_texts: text = re.sub(r'[^A-Za-z\s]', ' ', text).lower() words = [w for w in text.split() if w not in stop_words] cleaned_texts.append(" ".join(words))# Generate combined textcombined_text = " ".join(cleaned_texts)# Generate the word cloudwordcloud = WordCloud(width=800, height=400, background_color='white', colormap='viridis').generate(combined_text)# Display the word cloudplt.figure(figsize=(10, 6)) # <-- corrected numeric dimensionsplt.imshow(wordcloud, interpolation='bilinear')plt.axis('off')plt.title("Word Cloud of Scraped Text", fontsize=16)plt.show()Finally, we generate a word cloud visualization displaying prominent keywords from the combined and cleaned text data. By visually emphasizing the most frequent and relevant terms, this approach allows for intuitive exploration of the main trends and themes in the collected web content.Word Cloud Output from the Scraped SiteIn conclusion, weve successfully built a robust and interactive trend-finding tool. This exercise equipped you with hands-on experience in web scraping, NLP analysis, topic modeling, and intuitive visualizations using word clouds. With this powerful yet straightforward approach, you can continuously track industry trends, gain valuable insights from social and blog content, and make informed decisions based on real-time data. Here is the Colab Notebook.
