  • 37 Green Kitchen Ideas from Modern Farmhouse To Urban Sophisticate
    www.elledecor.com
Forecasters predict that varying shades of green, from earthy olive to muted mint, will be one of the top kitchen color trends this year, a phenomenon that has shown no sign of stopping these past few years. Interior designers have also gone gaga for green kitchen cabinets and its easy to see why. I love using green in kitchen cabinetry because it is vibrant in a way that belongs with much of the produce we bring into our kitchens, says San Franciscobased designer Noz Nozawa, who cites Benjamin Moores Herb Garden as a favorite hue. You could take inspiration from deep zucchini greens to rich blue-green lacinato kale to the bright electricity of limes, and any of these hues would pair beautifully with wood cabinets, many countertops, and whatever meal youre preparing! If youre feeling green as grass when it comes to decorating with color, never fear. Green is mercifully easy to match with your existing finishes and fixtures, and a verdant coat on your cabinets is a surefire way to create a look thats both trend forward and classic. But, Nozawa advises, if youre still nervous, Starting with your island is a great way to contain the color. If your perfect green is deeper or more muted, [you could paint] your whole kitchen! To set you off on your own emerald expedition, weve thumbed through our archive to find 35 exemplary cooking spaces that feature green kitchen cabinets.1Green Cabinets and Green TileDustin AkslandIn a Brooklyn townhouse designed by Elizabeth Roberts, the range is by Wolf and the green cabinets are custom with hardware by E.R. As a result the space was dark and heavy feeling, she tells us. The solution? To douse the space in white and paint the central island a fresh shade of green. And, in her view, you can never have too much of a good thing: Im working on a kitchen right now where all the bottom cabinets (and the island) are oak wood, and the upper cabinets will be a rich emerald greenbut our countertops will be a very colorful green marble! 20DayGlo Green CabinetsLaure JolietThis look may not be for the faint of heart, but it certainly suits the energy designer Leah Ring wanted to foster in her California desert retreat. • TikTok launches new features aimed at teens, but especially their parents
    9to5mac.com
TikTok has announced several new features launching today for teens and parents to help build balanced digital habits. Heres what that means. For parents of TikTok teensA big part of todays new batch of features is giving new tools to parents for monitoring their teens use of TikTok.To that end, there are two new features launching:Time Away: Today, were enhancing Family Pairing by launching a way for parents to block their teens from being on TikTok during times that they controlcaregivers can use our newTime Awayfeature to decide when its best for their teens to take a break. Parents can also set a reoccurring schedule to best suit their family life. If plans change, teens can request extra time, but parents make the final decision.Following Transparency: Were also adding a Family Pairing feature that can allow parents to see who their teen is following on TikTok, and who follows them, along with accounts their teen has blocked. These updates join the list of ~15 existing ways parents and caregivers can manage their teens TikTok experience. For teens: Wind down and reportingThe updates today arent limited to parent-facing features. TikTok is also offering new capabilities directly for teens, designed to help them achieve healthier digital habits. There are two additions specifically for teens:Wind Down: If a teen under 16 is on TikTok after 10pm, their For You feed will be interrupted with our new wind down feature. At launch, this is a full-screen takeover with calming music to help teens relax and be mindful of the time. If a teen decides to spend additional time on TikTok after the first reminder, we show a second, harder to dismiss, full-screen prompt.Reporting: We also hear that parents want to know more about the content their teens engage with on our app. In response, in the coming months, when a teen reports a video they think may be against TikToks rules, they can choose to alert a parent, caregiver, or other trusted adult at the same time, even if they arent using Family Pairing. For wind down specifically, TikTok adds: In the coming weeks, well also test adding meditation exercises to the wind down reminder, as research shows that mindful meditation can improve sleep quality.9to5Macs TakeIts good to see TikTok give parents and teens more tools to engage in healthier ways with the app and each other. Though Apple offers systemwide features like Screen Time, for social media apps like TikTok that can prove so addictive, I think the more available tools the better. What do you think of TikToks new teen and parents features? • Elon Musk Looks Like He's Trying Not to Cry When Asked About Tesla
    futurism.com
Unelected White House advisor Elon Musk has seemingly been spending the vast majority of his time ransacking the federal government and excising what he claims to be "waste" and "fraud" with the help of his so-called Department of Government Efficiency.Turning his back on his businesses has come at a steep cost. His EV maker Tesla, in particular, has felt the hurt this week, nosediving a whopping 15 percent on Monday (though the stock has recovered a few points in the early trading hours of Tuesday). It's not just a blip, either; Wall Street has grown concerned about the carmaker's abysmal sales figures, which are in freefall in many parts of the globe. That's in large part due to Musk's endorsement of far-right extremism and twoNazi salutes during Trump's inauguration celebration, which have sparked protests and vandalism targeting Tesla dealerships across the country and world.During a Fox Business interview, Musk appeared to be on the verge of tears over the situation."You're giving up your other stuff? I mean, how are you running your other businesses?" broadcast personality Larry Kudlow asked him."With great difficulty," Musk answered, followed by a long pause and sigh. His voice wavered briefly before collecting himself."I'm just here trying to make government more efficient, eliminate waste and fraud, and so far we're making good progress," he claimed.Musk has spent much of his week trying to drum up excitement for his embattled carmaker, retweeting flattering posts in an apparent attempt to stop the bleeding.Meanwhile, it's not just Tesla watching the walls go down. The entire stock market stumbled this week, driven by fears of a recession brought on by the uncertainty of Trump's trade war. Over the weekend, the presidentrefused to rule out the possibility of an economic downturn, causing the Nasdaq and S&P 500 to tumble even further.Whether Musk will score much sympathy with his raw Fox appearance remains to be seen. His DOGE recently started rummaging through $1.6 trillion worth of Social Security payments, stoking concerns that the richest man in the world could soon be coming after the most vulnerable portion of the country. But actual fraud appears to be rare. As experts have pointed out, what Musk and his DOGE may be calling "fraud" appears to be falling far short of the legal definition. As always, it's impossible to get a full grasp on Musk's current emotional state. Is he really feeling remorse for having ditched his carmaker? Is his plunging net worth giving him pause?Or perhaps he simply hasn't slept in several days, resulting in the cracks starting to show on television.Musk has always been a notoriously weak public speaker in fact, this isn't even his first time fighting off tears on TV so his most recent appearance shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Is the billionaire even really thinking about Tesla and SpaceX while ransacking the government? Was that actual regret in his voice or did Kudlow somehow catch him by surprise?Considering his space company is already working on securing major government contracts this year, it's already looking like he's using the opportunity as a business advantage. But Tesla is a publicly traded company and investors still hold a considerable amount of influence. While the carmaker's board is stacked with Musk's closest supporters and family members, ensuring the billionaire remains in full control, investors and consumers alike can still hurt him where it matters.More on Musk: Elon Musk Freaking Out as Tesla CratersShare This Article

  • The Entire Internet Is Being Polluted by AI Slop
    futurism.com
AI slop has made its way into practically every corner of the internet. Just look at Facebook, or what's become of Pinterest. But what about AI-written text? It may not be as flagrantly bonkersas AI images, but it's also started to permeate the web.In a new study that's yet to be peer-reviewed, a team of researchers from Stanford University say they've managed to estimate how much writing floating around the web is the work of an AI model and all it took was analyzing over 300 million documents, including press releases, consumer complaints, and job postings."We wanted to quantify how many people are using these tools," study coauthor Yaohui Zhang, a Stanford researcher, .Zhang's team found that after the release of ChatGPT in November 2022, the proportion of text that was generated or modified by LLMs in all those categories skyrocketed. With corporate press releases, for example, the number jumped from around 2 to 3 percent to around 24 percent by late 2023.To identify AI facsimiles, the researchers used a statistical framework that analyzed texts written before the release of ChatGPT, looking for patterns such as word frequencies. Their detection model worked admirably well, they report, with a prediction error consistently lower than 3.3 percent."While some previous work used commercial software to detect such patterns, these studies often [have] been constrained to single domains, relied on black-box commercial AI detectors, or analyzed relatively small datasets," the researchers wrote.Their statistical framework revealed a trend similar in all the examined sectors. Approximately 18 percent of financial consumer complaints appear to beat least in part generated with AI. In job postings on LinkedIn, the share was up 10 percent for small firms, with newer companies exhibiting even higher rates of in part AI use.Even UN press releases showed a marked uptick to 14 percent being LLM-generated or assisted a clear sign of the "growing institutional adoption of AI for regulatory, policy, and public outreach efforts," the researchers wrote."Our study shows the emergence of a new reality in which firms, consumers and even international organizations substantially rely on generative AI for communications," the researchers added.Generally, Zhang and his team found that AI adoption followed the same pattern: a three to four month "lag" following ChatGPT's release the calm before the storm and then a surge of usage. This growth stabilized by late 2023 and kept a steady course in 2024. That could be a sign of AI slop hitting a saturation point or more insidiously, becoming too subtle to detect, the researchers suggest."I think [generative AI] is somehow constraining the creativity of humans," Zhang told Fast Company.Share This Article

Its no secret by now thatDaredevil: Born Again was made in multiple phases. It went into production with one vision for the show and ultimately arrived on Disney+ as another. • Mufasa: The Lion King Announces Streaming Premiere Date
    screencrush.com
DisneysMufasa, the latest installment in its enduringly popularLion King franchise, is headed to streaming. The new movie is both a sequel and a prequel to 2019sThe Lion King, a live-action remake of the venerable 1994 cartoon. The 2019 Lion King, directed by Jon Favreau, retold much the same story as the first film, but with photorealistic animals in the place of hand-drawn characters.Mufasa, directed byMoonlights Barry Jenkins, features a frame story set after the events ofThe Lion King, in which Simbas daughter (voiced by Blue Ivy Carter) learns the story of her grandfather Mufasa, and how he came to be theruler of the Pride Lands. The young versions of Mufasa and Scar arevoiced inMufasa by Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. The frame story features Donald Glover, John Kani, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, and Beyonce, all reprising their roles fromThe Lion Kingas Simba, Rafiki, Pumbaa, Timon, and Nala, respectively. (Dont go in expecting much from Beyonce, though; she barely has a handful of lines in this one.)Mufasa: The Lion KingDisneyloading...READ MORE: The Worst Disney Sequels EverAlthoughMufasa only received so-so reviews (its currently rated rotten on Rotten Tomatoes with a score of 57 percent), and opened in theaters with an underwhelming $35 million opening weekend gross, itstuck around in multiplexes long enough to become a hit. It ultimately earned $712 million worldwide, a respectable number for a prequel althoughthats still less than half of the $1.66 billion 2019s Lion King made.I thoughtMufasa was a marginal improvement over the first live-actionLion King movie. But the fundamental issue with that film still persists here. As I wrote in myreviewhere at ScreenCrush...This fictional universe was designed to be inhabited by hand-drawn, highly stylized Disney characters with exaggerated emotions and gestures. When you populate it with quasi-realistic animals, theycant do anything too obviously anthropomorphic, the way Disney animated heroes so often can and do in their classic films, lest you break the illusion.Instead, the characters inMufasajust walk around constantly, and Jenkins camera swoops and circles around them in this perpetual state of manic motion.Still if you missedMufasain theaters but were curious to check it out, streaming is probably the way to go, especially if you already have a Disney+ subscription. • NASA Launches New Space Station Crew This Week: How to Watch
    www.cnet.com
A crew of four will be heading to the International Space Station in a blaze of glory this week. SpaceX will launch the Crew-10 mission on a Dragon spacecraft with an assist from a Falcon 9 rocket. This is part of NASA's Commercial Crew Program that relies on SpaceX to ferry astronauts to and from the ISS.When does SpaceX Crew-10 launch?NASA is targeting liftoff for 4:48 p.m. PT on Wednesday, March 12. The rocket will take off from Launch Complex 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The launch complex has a storied history dating back to the Apollo moon program era of the 1960s.Read more: NASA's 'Stranded' Astronauts Days Away From Coming HomeHow to watch NASA astronauts launchNASA is known for its detailed coverage of human spaceflight missions. Hard-core space fans can tune into a live video feed of Launch Complex 39A about 6 hours before liftoff through the Kennedy Space Center's newsroom feed on YouTube.Main launch coverage kicks off at 12:45 p.m. PT on the free NASA Plus streaming service. NASA Plus is available online, through the NASA app and on YouTube.Once the video livestream wraps up, NASA will switch to an audio-only update stream until Crew-10 nears the ISS for rendezvous and docking on March 13. Arrival coverage is scheduled for 1:15 a.m. PT on Thursday on NASA Plus.Crew-10 will hit a few milestones along the journey, including docking at 3 a.m. and hatch opening at 4:45 a.m. Astronauts will then engage in a welcome ceremony, during which the new arrivals are greeted by the current ISS crew. It's typically a fun, hug-filled affair.Meet Crew-10Crew-10 consists of four people representing three different countries. Anne McClain and Nichole Ayers are NASA astronauts. This will be McClain's second NASA spaceflight and Ayers's first.Takuya Onishi is with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, known as JAXA. This is his second ISS mission. Kirill Peskov is a cosmonaut with Russia's Roscosmos agency. It's his first visit to the station. The astronauts will have a full slate of activities ahead of them, including material flammability tests and physiological and psychological studies meant to understand changes to the human body during space missions.Return of 'stranded' astronautsCrew-10 has a bit more riding on it than a typical crew rotation mission. NASA astronauts Sunita "Suni" Williams and Barry "Butch" Wilmore infamously became long-term ISS residents after riding to the station on a test mission for Boeing's Starliner crew capsule. The crew capsule encountered technical issues and was sent back to Earth without the astronauts.Williams and Wilmore's ISS stay unexpectedly stretched out for over eight months. Crew-10's arrival means Willams, Wilmore, NASA astronaut Nick Hague and Roscosmos cosmonaut Aleksandr Gorbunov will be able to hand off ISS duties to the newcomers and return to Earth on a SpaceX Dragon sent up in September. That Dragon arrived with two open seats for the Starliner crew's journey home. Both astronauts have insisted they don't feel stranded, though that term has been widely applied to them in news stories and social media. They expect to leave the station on March 16. But first, Crew-10 will need to arrive on time.
