Nestled within the lush, serene hilly reserved forests of Denkanikotai a small hamlet in the hinterlands of Tamil Nadu, India lies Ishavas, a slice of heaven where architecture and nature engage in seamless dialogue.Save this picture!Save this picture!Set within a one-acre parcel in a farmland development community, Ishavas occupies the highest point of the site, offering sweeping panoramic views. Conceived as a weekend retreat, it is a thoughtful architectural exploration of space, materiality, and context embodying climate-responsive, sustainability-driven design. Designed to open itself to the landscape, Ishavas adopts a site-sensitive approach, blurring the boundaries between the built and the unbuilt. The architecture carefully responds to the natural topography, allowing the structure to blend effortlessly into its environment.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The house is meticulously oriented along the East-West axis, unfolding towards the North with uninterrupted views of the pool a serene feature seamlessly accessible from all common spaces. At its heart, the foyer bridges the living, dining, and kitchen areas along a single axis, unbound by common walls, crafting an effortless illusion of depth and openness. The living area is subtly sunken, nestled between the pool on the outside and a tranquil koi pond on the inside a deliberate design move that enhances the perception of space. Adding a sense of drama and verticality, a single-flight staircase elegantly runs the length of the living space, accentuating the soaring double-height volume. The ground level consists of the Foyer, Living, Kitchen and Dining with a guest bedroom. The first floor consists of a common family space, overlooking the sunken living at the lower level and a master suite that can function dynamically, as a single use space and a bedroom.Save this picture!Spatially, Ishavas unfolds in a series of interconnected volumes that frame curated views of the forested hills, fostering an ever-present connection to the outdoors. The architecture encourages fluid movement between interior and exterior spaces, allowing inhabitants to experience the shifting moods of the landscape from mist-laden mornings to sun-dappled afternoons.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture!Owing to its remote location deep in the hinterlands, the site posed several challenges throughout its development challenges that ultimately shaped its narrative. Sourcing materials and assembling a workforce became an inherently community-centric process, with self-reliant teams setting up camp on-site, blurring the lines between construction and collaboration. What emerged was more than just a response to logistical hurdles; it was a conscious effort to optimize transportation dependencies while fostering local engagement. By procuring region-specific materials, the design remained firmly rooted in its context, allowing the architecture to echo the spirit of its surroundings.Save this picture!Sustainability lies at the heart of Ishavas, woven into every aspect of its design. The material palette is deeply contextual locally sourced laterite stone shapes the walls, Kota stone grounds the floors, and mud-plastered walls finished with a soft lime wash evoke an organic warmth. Passive design strategies including cross-ventilation, shaded courtyards, and a carefully considered orientation work in harmony with the hot, dry climate, enhancing thermal comfort while minimizing energy dependency. Furthering its commitment to self-sufficiency, the farm is powered by a 5KW solar setup, with rainwater collection points thoughtfully positioned across the site, ensuring a closed-loop approach to resource management.Save this picture!HabitArt Studio's design philosophy is rooted in the belief that architecture shapes daily habits and interactions. Ishavas is a reflection of this ethos, inviting its residents to engage with their environment meaningfully to pause, observe, and coexist with the natural world. Ultimately, Ishavas is not an imposition on the landscape but an extension of it a harmonious retreat that redefines luxury as a profound sense of place and belonging. Check out the admirable work of Anna Gras, who recreated a pirate woman with a cute cat in 3D. Inspired by a character made by Yang J, she breathed new life into her using the power of ZBrush, Blender, 3DCoat, Substance 3D Painter, Marmoset Toolbag, and Photoshop.Gras hand-painted the bust, and the final version captured the original colors and style. Hopefully, the artist will one day come back to the project and finish the whole body.Meanwhile, you can find her other works on ArtStation.Want some 2D-like art? • NASA's SPHEREx space telescope launched into orbit by a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket
    www.engadget.com
NASA's SPHEREx observatory is now in space for a two year year mission to create a 3D map of the entire celestial sky. The telescope left the ground on top of a Falcon 9 rocket from a launch pad in California, four years after NASA announced that a SpaceX flight will launch the mission, along with NASA's PUNCH (Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere) microsatellites. SPHEREx separated from SpaceX's vehicle at 12AM Eastern time on March 12 and will remain in low Earth orbit, where it will maintain a position relative to the sun that will remain the same throughout the year.View of @NASA's SPHEREx and Earth shortly after deployment pic.twitter.com/TT2pyVX43Q SpaceX (@SpaceX) March 12, 2025 Every 98-minute orbit the observatory makes will allow it to view a 360-degree strip of the sky in both optical as well as near-infrared light. The telescope can capture more 360-degree strips as the Earth moves around the sun, enabling it to map the entire celestial sky within six months. SPHEREx was designed to image the entire sky every six months in two years, with its goal being to create a 3D map of over 450 million galaxies. The telescope will also image and gather information on over 100 million stars in the Milky Way.SPHEREx's map is bound to be colorful: It will separate infrared light emitted by the stars and galaxies into 102 individual colors using a technique called spectroscopy. NASA likens it to the "way a prism splits sunlight into a rainbow." The agency says observing the objects in different colors will reveal various properties about them, such as their composition. For galaxies, their colors could help scientists determine their distance from our planet. The data SPHEREx provides will give scientists information about what happened right after the Big Bang and could provide evidence of cosmic inflation, or the rapid expansion of the early universe. SPHEREx will shed its telescope lens' protective cover in four days and will start its science operations in a little over a month once its temperature has cooled down.Meanwhile, the four PUNCH satellites, which will also take on a Sun-synchronous orbit, will map the sun's corona by taking polarized white-light images of the celestial object. It will gather data to help us better understand how the corona turns into solar wind, which could lead to accurate predictions of space weather events affecting spacecraft orbiting the Earth. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/science/space/nasas-spherex-space-telescope-launched-into-orbit-by-a-spacex-falcon-9-rocket-055518752.html?src=rss

  • TikTok will try instituting a 10pm curfew on most teens
    www.engadget.com
TikTok at least according to the bevy of civil and federal lawsuits against it is not known for being a safe place for children. In part it has has leaned on parents to do the policing through its Family Pairing tool, which allows guardians to limit teens' screen time and block certain content. Now, TikTok is introducing additional features that allow a paired adult to see their teen's connections and choose when the app is even accessible. The first new feature, Time Away, lets parents set specific times that TikTok is available on their teen's devices. For example, they can turn off access during a weekend trip or during dinner time, rather than just setting a screen time limit. They can also set a recurring schedule if they want to keep it simple each week. Teens, however, can request extra time, but their parent must approve it.Parents can also now see exactly who their teen is following or is followed by, along with accounts they've blocked. TikTok claims this will make parents "better equipped to have ongoing conversations and help their teens develop the digital literacy skills they need." Not a small task by any means.Lastly, TikTok is adding an unusual feature to limit screen time. Anyone under 16 using the platform after 10PM will have their screen taken over and calming music will play (it can be dismissed to continue using the app.) In the coming weeks, TikTok will also test adding meditation exercises to these pop-ups.This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/social-media/tiktok-will-try-instituting-a-10pm-curfew-on-most-teens-165416916.html?src=rss
