One of 2024s most underappreciated games comes to PS Plus this monthMichael BeckwithPublished March 13, 2025 1:38pmUpdated March 13, 2025 1:39pm Its criminal this will probably never get a sequel (Ubisoft)This months additions to the PS Plus game catalogue include one of the best Metroidvanias in recent years and a trio of retro PS1 games.Back when Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown was announced in 2023, fans seemed to have a thoroughly negative opinion of it. Come its release in January 2024, though, and its widely considered to be a fantastic entry in the series. In our own review, we deemed it one of the best Metroidvania games of recent years, which is why its such a shame it didnt sell as well as Ubisoft wanted it to. Just a few weeks after its launch, the publisher decided the game did poorly enough to warrant rejecting plans for a sequel and eventually split up the development team. While its unlikely The Lost Crown will ever see a follow-up, PlayStation Plus subscribers will soon no longer have an excuse not to play it as the game is coming to the services game catalogue very soon.As confirmed via the PlayStation Blog, both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions of The Lost Crown will be added to the PlayStation Plus game catalogue next week on March 18.Unlike the line-up of monthly downloads, theres no time limit for accessing the game catalogue so you can get round to checking out The Lost Crown whenever you have the time.As a reminder, the game catalogue is only available to those subscribed to the Extra or Premium tiers, providing access to a library of PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 games at no extra cost.It doesnt seem like The Lost Crown will come with its Mask Of Darkness DLC expansion, so that will still need to be purchased separately from the PlayStation Store. Fortunately, its not particularly expensive, only costing 4.29.Prince Of Persia fans have to make do with The Lost Crown (as well as early access roguelike The Rogue Prince Of Persia) for the time being since the highly anticipated remake of Prince Of Persia: The Sands Of Time isnt coming out any time soon.More TrendingAfter numerous delays and apparently multiple reboots, the remake is now scheduled for a 2026 launch, though Ubisoft has yet to share any footage of the game in action.Obviously, The Lost Crown isnt the only game being added to the catalogue this month. It will be joined by:EA Sports UFC 5 (PlayStation 5)Captain Tsubasa: Rise Of New Champions (PlayStation 4)Mobile Suit Gundam Battle Operation Code Fairy (PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5)Arcade Paradise (PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5)Bang-On Balls: Chronicles (PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5)You Suck At Parking (PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5)Syberia The World Before (PlayStation 4/PlayStation 5)PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers will also gain access to a few more retro games, specifically FromSoftwares original trilogy of Armored Core games for the PlayStation 1. So, if youre new to the series thanks to 2023s Armored Core 6, this is a chance to experience how things started. The very first Armored Core came out in 1997 though the UK didnt get till the following year (Sony)Emailgamecentral@metro.co.uk, leave a comment below, follow us on Twitter, andsign-up to our newsletter. To submit Inbox letters and Readers Features more easily, without the need to send an email, just use ourSubmit Stuff page here. For more stories like this, check our Gaming page.GameCentralSign up for exclusive analysis, latest releases, and bonus community content. This site is protected by reCAPTCHA and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. • The Book Behind Edge of Tomorrow Is Being Turned Into a Stunning-Looking Anime
    gizmodo.com
Yesterday, Warner Bros. Japan announced an anime film adaptation for All You Need Is Kill, the sci-fi light novel that inspired the 2014 Hollywood film, Edge of Tomorrow, starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. All You Need Is Kill, originally created by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, follows a soldier named Keiji Kiriya trapped in a time loop where he must improve his fighting prowess in order to stop an alien invasion. Keiji is later joined by Rita Vrataski, a legendary U.S. special forces soldier with the sick ass nickname, Full Metal Bitch. In contrast to the Hollywood film following Cages perspective (the romanized version of Keijis name), All You Need Is Kills anime film adaptation aims to retell its story from Ritas point of view. According to the films press release, All You Need Is Kill will explore Ritas inner journey as a warrior and dive into her struggles with loneliness and personal growth. All You Need Is Kill is animated by Studio4C, the animation production house behind Berserk: The Golden Age Arc (and its Memorial Edition), The Animatrix, and Children of the Sea. The film will be directed by Kenichiro Akimoto, whose past works include being the CGI director behind Children of the Sea and Thirst. All You Need Is Kills pop culture trajectory is an interesting one. Sakurazakas story started as a light novel in 2004 under Shueisha, became a manga by Death Note artist Takeshi Obata in 2014, got the Hollywood live-action film treatment in 2014, and is now finally becoming an anime in the near future. Typically, the Hollywood film part of a books trajectory comes lastand is usually dismissed by its core fanbase for its creative license messing things up. That was never really the case forEdge of Tomorrow (now also known as Live Die Repeat), though. The movie didnt necessarily set the world on fire at the box office, grossing over $100 million in the U.S and $370 million worldwide, it is widely regarded as one of Cruises more inventive action films excursions from the Mission Impossible franchise. In fact, Cruise and director Doug Liman are still in talks about making a sequel 10 years after the films release. We will likely see Akimoto and Studio4Cs All You Need Is Kill long before Hollywood commits to producing a sequel film. Based off the trippy kaleidoscopic visuals from its anime teaser, we are in for an awesome ride. Want more io9 news? Reimagine Hospitality in Venice: Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous 2025Sponsored ContentSave this picture!Courtesy of MS MonacoFor the 5th Anniversary Edition of the "Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous", M3 Monaco unveils the new theme of its annual international architecture competition. Students, young architects, and professionals are challenged to imagine a new vision or rethink the development of Certosa Island's infrastructure in Venice, creating a unique dialogue that incorporates regenerative tourism, the maritime journey, the UNESCO World Heritage listing, and the context of "La Serenissima."The frames of Venice Defined by Le Corbusier as "the most prodigious urbanistic event that exists on this earth", Venice stands as an exceptional testimony to human ingenuity. However, it faces numerous challenges today. The city and its lagoon are particularly threatened by the risks of rising sea levels linked to climate change and its negative impact on building foundations, the phenomenon of the famous acqua alta, over-tourism and its consequences for local community. Preserving this unique architectural jewel requires integrating infrastructure that can absorb new climatic challenges while preserving the Venetian identity.Save this picture!Certosa Island, located just one kilometer from St. Mark's Square, is one of the largest islands in the Venetian lagoon. It boasts exceptional natural heritage and the historical remains of a former Carthusian monastery, along with military remnants that are currently being repurposed. The Call for Ideas: Create an appealing destinationThe objective is to create a high-end and eco-conscious destination with nautical character, while enhancing the beautiful natural surroundings. Participants are required to design three infrastructures on Venezia Certosa Marina's site, including at least two habitable buildings and a third free to their creativity, which will enhance the island's appeal while taking environmental impact into account. Proposals should elevate Certosa Island as a premier hospitality marina with spaces designed to offer a seamless and enjoyable experience for visitors, boaters and residents.Save this picture! The use of innovative materials, architectural techniques, and energy-efficient technologies is encouraged, as is the ability to design a state-of-art architecture that exemplifies the perfect balance between functionality, aesthetics, and environmental conservation. The jury will also assess the technical feasibility and relevance of the proposals.Save this picture! How to participate?Registration opens on March 1, 2025, and the call for ideas proposal must be submitted by August 20, 2025. The consensus meeting with the international jury will take place on September 09, 2025, and the winners will be announced on Monday 22nd September 2025.Participation is free for students, and while M3 Monaco believes in education and transmission, a registration fee will be requested to professional architects to support the exhibition of student projects at the Yacht Club de Monaco. For more information and registration, follow this link.Save this picture!Smart Marina Architecture AwardThe Smart Marina event aims to integrate architects into the marina and yachting ecosystem with its committed stakeholders to best practices in the industry, the environment preservation and community benefits with the goal to shape Smart Marina. Over the past two years, the competition has brought together 104 students and 22 architectural firms from 24 countries, focusing on waterfront projects that are not only attractive and functional but also sustainable and energy-efficient.The international jury, which has previously been chaired by Jean Michel Wilmotte of Wilmotte & Associs (2023) and Effie Nakajima of Zaha Hadid (2024), will carefully review each project, and winners will be celebrated during the Awards Ceremony of the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous held on 21 & 22 September 2025 at the Yacht Club de Monaco.Save this picture!M3 Monaco has been granted the location of Venezia Certosa Marina through its partnership with the ICOMIA World Marina Conference 2025. In addition to the visibility that the winners will have during the Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous, this will be increased tenfold at the ICOMIA World Marina Conference where their projects will be exhibited, giving them the opportunity to forge new strategic collaborations.M3 Monaco is a Monaco-based consultancy expert in connecting land and sea, specializing in successful marinas, yacht clubs, and yachting destinations. For further information about the M3 Monaco, please follow this link.Image gallerySee allShow lessCite: "Reimagine Hospitality in Venice: Monaco Smart & Sustainable Marina Rendezvous 2025" 13 Mar 2025. • Electromagnetic fields and dinosaur choir win international instrument contest
    www.popsci.com
This year's winners included the Chromaplane, Mulatar, and Dinosaur Choir. Credit: Georgia TechShareAfter narrowing the field to just 10 finalists last month, Georgia Techs 27th annual Guthman Musical Instrument Competition has officially announced this years winning melodic inventions. And to celebrate, the university has made each champions concert performance available to watch online. Noweveryone can experience the unique tunes influenced by modern instrumentation, prehistoric vocal cords, and invisible electromagnetic waves. This years winners are not just creating new soundstheyre pioneering entirely new ways to think about music, Interim Chair and Associate Professor at Georgia Tech School of Music Jeff Albert shared in a statement.1st Place: ChromaplaneThe first place prize went to a collaborative project from Italy and Germany. Chromaplane uses two analog pickup coils to interact with a surrounding cloud of electromagnetic fields across a flat surface. The results are a mix of warbling tonalities that sound ethereal while also remaining grounded in its overall physicality.2nd Place: MulatarThe competitions second place recipient is the Mulatar from the UK, which blends multiple elements from a harp, slide guitar, and percussion instruments into a single design. While often minimalist in its sound, the Mulatar is a complex invention that combines acoustic and electroacoustic systems, resulting in a multifaceted playing experience.3rd Place: Dinosaur ChoirThird place went to Dinosaur Choir, an invention capable of imitating the vocalizations of prehistoric animals. To accomplish this, Courtney Brown and Cezary Gajewski constructed 3D fabrications of a Late Cretaceous-era Parasaurolophus skull and nasal passages based on fossil CT scans. Dinosaur Choir may be the closest audiences will get to hearing what the extinct animal sounded like. Dinosaur Choirs creators have also adapted those tonalities into modern musical performances.A Judges Special Award was also given to the 3 Axis MIDI Guitar, which expands current MIDI guitar expressions through an additional pressure-sensitive Z-axis. Commendations were also awarded to a modular, ergonomic polychromatic MIDI keyboard called ModMIDI, as well as Udderbot, a cow-inspired DIY slide vessel flute.

  • A new iron compound hints primordial helium hides in Earths core
    www.sciencenews.org
NewsChemistryA new iron compound hints primordial helium hides in Earths coreHelium atoms filled gaps in iron crystals under high pressure and temperature Under high temperature and pressure, helium atoms (red circles) move into the spaces between iron atoms (red circles with black centers) in a piece of iron metal, as show in this map called an electron localization function.Han Hsu/ National Central UniversityBy Skyler Ware45 seconds agoScientists have coaxed one of the universes most stubborn elements into a new compound.Formed under intense pressures, the newly discovered compound packs helium atoms into crystalline iron, researchers report February 25 in Physical Review Letters. The compound joins a short list of materials that incorporate the normally unreactive element and suggests that helium from the early solar system could be stored in the iron that makes up Earths core.Helium is one of the least reactive elements on the periodic table. Like the other noble gases, helium doesnt gain or lose electrons easily and so does not normally form chemical compounds. But under extremely high pressures, helium can interact with a few other elements, including nitrogen and sodium and now iron, research shows. An iron-helium compound, shown here in artificial color using a technique called secondary ion mass spectrometry, forms under high temperature and pressure. Blue and black areas mark the background, while the orange and red area represents the sample. 2025 Hirose et al. CC-BY-NDTo make the new iron compound, physicist Kei Hirose of the University of Tokyo and his colleagues squeezed iron and helium together in a diamond anvil cell, a high-pressure device that subjected the elements to pressures greater than 50,000 Earth atmospheres and temperatures above 1,000 degrees Celsius. This compression formed crystals containing both iron and helium. The volume of the crystal formed was larger than that of a crystal of pure iron at the same pressure, the team found. The researchers attributed this increase to helium ions packing into interstitial sites, the tiny spaces between iron atoms in the crystal. But the helium atoms dont bond directly to iron theyre too unreactive, even at extreme conditions.
