Next Nintendo Direct Set for June – Rumour Nintendo seems to have a new Direct presentation scheduled for the launch week of the Switch 2 or the week after, a known leaker has claimed. Posted By Shubhankar Parijat | On 24th, May. 2025 The Nintendo Switch 2 is now less than two weeks away from launch, and as a major new console, it obviously has plenty of games in the pipeline, but it’s also safe to assume that there’s plenty more that we haven’t officially heard about yet. That could be changing soon, however, with a new Nintendo Direct presentation allegedly on the horizon. That’s as per known Nintendo leaker PH Brazil, who recently claimed during a livestream on Twitch, that Nintendo has a new Direct presentation planned either for the week of the Switch 2’s worldwide launch, or the week after that. Of course, this shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, with June usually having seen Nintendo Directs most years in recent years. With the Switch 2 also launching imminently, it makes sense that Nintendo will want to build early momentum for the console with major new announcements around its release. Remember when there was a time we all seriously thought Elden Ring would never come out? Now not only has it launched, but it’s a bonafide cultural legend. Now it’s facing its next evolution: A live-action film adaptation. Bandai Namco and film company A24 announced today that they have selected Alex Garland to lead the adaptation, serving as both director and writer. Garland is a director with a pedigree in games as well as film, being one of the writers behind Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. In film, he’s the writer behind the 28 X Later series and sci-fi thriller Sunshine; and the director behind Ex Machina and Civil War. Elden Ring would be slightly outside his normal milieu, but he’s clearly got the background to bring such a big story to the screen. Beyond Garland’s involvement, we know little about the adaptation of Elden Ring, such as story direction. Bandai Namco confirmed that the film will be produced by Peter Rice alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, and George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis. George R. R. Martin was also behind some of Elden Ring’s original story concepts. Elden Ring is one of multiple game with confirmed live-action film adaptations in the works, as Hollywood continues to deepen its relationship with the video game industry. The latest games with film counterparts in the works include Split Fiction, OutRun, Gears of War and BioShock (the latter two being Netflix adaptations that have been in the works for some time. Bethesda has promised “a lot of exciting things” for the space-faring RPG in 2025, but outside of a recent beta update, there hasn’t been any word of releasing on other consoles. However, insider NateTheHate has reaffirmed that a PS5 version is coming and “intent should be announced this year. It’s just a matter of when the announcement will happen.” He also expected the gap between the announcement and release to be “minimal.” The Verge’s Tom Warren alleged that Starfield was meant to arrive for PS5 alongside Shattered Space, its first expansion, last year. Plans seemingly changed for some unknown reason. Then again, something similar happened to Forza Horizon 5, and it’s now available for the console. With titles like Gears of War: Reloaded and The Outer Worlds 2 launching on day one for PS5 alongside PC and Xbox Series X/S, it’s probably only a matter of time before Starfield makes the jump. Posted By Rashid Sayed | On 24th, May. 2025 After over two years in Steam Early Access, Version 1.0 of Questline’s Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon is now available on PC. It also marks the open-world role-playing game’s release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Check out the release trailer below. Based on Arthurian legend, the story unfolds on Avalon, an island that King Arthur and his followers retreated to but is overwhelmed by the Red Death. A strange phenomenon known as the Wyrdness is also spreading, mutating and twisting everything it touches. The player starts in an asylum and escapes, seeking to survive and maybe unravel Avalon’s mysteries. Check out our review for Tainted Grail: The Fall of Avalon – we gave it a seven out of ten on PS5 due to technical issues. Questline will release “quite a lot” of patches in the coming weeks to address bugs. However, it’s also looking to share the first modding tools in “about a month,” with more to follow later. A build for Steam Deck with improved performance is also in the works, and the developer is also interested in additional content, though it’s still TBD. News Gears of War: Reloaded Beta Listing Appears on SteamDB The beta could be used to test multiplayer and may be announced in the coming weeks. The full game launches on June 26th. Posted By Ravi Sinha | On 23rd, May. 2025 A beta is seemingly incoming for Microsoft’s Gears of War: Reloaded. Reddit users noted the appearance of a SteamDB listing for the same, which has since changed to “PenPL,” perhaps to throw off any notice. However, it still specifies the game’s name in the parent app section, and the EULAs section outright notes a “Gears of War: Reloaded Beta EULA.” The download size is apparently 12.57 GB with the full installation requiring 15.42 GB. Assuming it’s real, the beta could be to test out the game’s multiplayer before launch. Though it features all the content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, Reloaded adds 120 frames per second support, cross-platform co-op and multiplayer, and cross-progression. The beta may be announced at the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase on June 8th, so stay tuned for more details. Gears of War: Reloaded launches on August 26th for Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC and offers 4K assets and textures, improved post-processing and shadows, and more. Elden Ring Nightreign could receive two player mode post-launch "This is simply something that was overlooked during development." Image credit: FromSoftware / Bandai Namco News by Ed Nightingale Deputy News Editor Published on May 23, 2025 Elden Ring Nightreign's director has apologised for the lack of two player mode in the multiplayer spin-off, but is considering adding it post-launch. The co-operative game is designed for three players, though it's possible to play alone too. However, a two player option does not exist. "The simple answer is that this is simply something that was overlooked during development as just a two-player option, so we're very sorry about that," director Junya Ishizaki told IGN. "As we said before, we set out to make this a multiplayer co-op game for three players, balanced for three players, so that was the main focus and it's at the core of Nightreign." "And so we did put a lot of effort into creating this experience that was playable for solo players in as much as the rules and new systems allowed," said Ishizaki. "So in putting all our efforts into that aspect, we kind of overlooked and neglected the duos aspect, but this is something that we are looking at and considering for post-launch support as well." Ishizaki also discussed further how players are somewhat alone, whether playing solo or as a group of three. "Seeing as this game is built around three players, we understand the concerns of those solo players, but essentially a lot of the time in Nightreign you will be acting and behaving on your own," he said. "Even in a group as three, you'll be going off and challenging different areas of the map and collecting different things before you accumulate together at the boss fight. "So solo play is generally encouraged and is a natural part of the game loop, but also in general for those solo players - and this might be something that's difficult to notice in multiplayer - but the activeness and aggressiveness of enemies towards any one single player has been adjusted so that you don't find yourself in any unreasonable multi-foe fights. "And just generally, when you're playing single player, the parameters adjust dynamically depending on the number of players in that session. So we hope that this will alleviate that feeling somewhat." Still, playing solo is a much more challenging experience without teammates to revive you, though Ishizaki hints there's a self-revive feature hidden around the map for players to discover. FromSoftware has made some tweaks since the network test back in February. Judging by player numbers, many were struggling to defeat the first Nightlord, Gladius. News Battlefield 6 Will Remove Weapon Restriction From Classes, Introduces Signature Weapons This change would, for example, allow a medic to avoid frontline combat by letting them use a sniper-rifle and maintain distance. Posted By Joelle Daniels | On 23rd, May. 2025 The studios that are working on the next Battlefield games have revealed some details about what players can expect from the upcoming multiplayer shooter’s class system. Detailed through a lengthy post on Reddit, the studios have described the new class system as being a “series of interconnected systems and fundamentals that shape your role on the field, while granting you the freedom to customise how you execute that role.” Customisation is going to be a big aspect of how classes function in the next Battlefield game. While the classes will retain the ability to come up with their own weapon loadouts along with class-specific gadgets, it is also worth noting that restrictions that have traditionally been placed on classes in terms of their choice of weapons are being removed. This means that a player with the Medic class, rather than being in the thick of the battle and supporting their squad mates, could instead choose to stay away from the frontlines while using a sniper rifle, making their Medic abilities more or less useless. In an attempt to gently dissuade players from making the wrong weapon choice, the upcoming Battlefield game will instead feature the concept of the Signature Weapon. With this, each class will have their own Signature Weapon with which they get added benefits. In the example provided, a Recon player with a sniper rifle can hold their breath to line-up long-distance shots for longer than another class would. The studios have said that these new class features are slated for testing in the coming weeks through Battlefield Labs, during which it will be soliciting feedback from players. The general response to this new approach to Battlefield’s traditional class system has been quite negative, with one of the top comments referring to it as the game’s “first big L.” Many of the responses are calling for weapon choices to be more restrictive, with some desiring Battlefield 4’s system, where several weapon archetypes worked as signature weapons for certain classes while being unavailable to others, while also having a variety of general weapons that everyone could use. The plan with this new system seems to be a way for the developers to discourage players from making bad decisions with their weapon loadouts with regards to class identity and teamwork, while not outright stopping them from making those decisions. Rather, with the Signature Weapon system, Battlefield wants to give players benefits for using certain weapon types with specific classes, while not giving too many drawbacks for weapon choices that could be seen as incorrect. Battlefield is on the verge of kicking off its new playtest via Battlefield Labs, this time around focusing on server performance and stability. Over the weekend, more and more players will be invited to the Battlefield Labs playtest, during which time there will be a small selection of maps and game modes that will be available to play. The next Battlefield game doesn’t yet have a solid release date. However, EA has stated that it plans on launching the multiplayer shooter later this year. Image: Bandai NamcoThe rumours were true: Elden Ring is getting a movie adaptation thanks to studio A24, with acclaimed writer and director Alex Garland, best known for Ex-Machina, Civil War, and for writing 28 Days Later, at the helm. Deadline broke the news late yesterday and also confirmed the producer line-up — Peter Rice, Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, Game of Thrones producer Vince Gerardis, and A Song of Ice and Fire writer George R. R. Martin. Martin, of course, contributed to much of the worldbuilding to FromSoftware's critically-acclaimed open-world RPG. Bandai Namco, who published the game, has also confirmed the news, announcing that it would be collaborating with A24 on production. So, we know the movie will be live-action — that only makes sense. But we have a lot of questions here. How will Garland adapt the story? He isn't the most obvious choice for an Elden Ring movie, but we think he's a bold — and good — one. Otherwise, which characters will be in the movie? Will Miriel, Pastor of Vows be present, and who will play them? Does the movie touch on the Shadow of the Erdree DLC at all? Will it go in a completely different direction to the game? The thing is, Elden Ring is a lore-heavy game. It'll be interesting to see just how it's adapted for the screen. Elden Ring comes to Switch 2 later this year. While we don't have a release date for the Elden Ring movie yet, we at least have the Switch 2 version of the game to come in 2025.
