I save prayer cards from funerals, certain holiday cards, childrens special art projects, and photos from vacations that remind me of amazing memories like being together in faraway places, says designer Meg Lonergan. Embracing and highlighting a collection is a great way to infuse your personal style into a space. For many years, Andrews has collected studio pottery. In my own Los Angeles home, we designed a niche in the den to showcase many of my favorite pieces, the designer says. Each one has a story and triggers a special memory.Make a Weird Gallery WallLam PhotographyA gallery wall by designer Jeanne Barber.Gallery walls are a great place for getting weird, says designer Jeanne Barber. In the above project, Barber framed the homeowners old student council campaign sign, their wedding countdown, and Boy Scout patches. She adds, Everything on the wall represents a significant memory in their life history and is a great conversation starter, but because they are grouped together, no single piece overwhelms."Look at Your WardrobeMadeline TolleA closet by designer Jaqui Seerman.A good place to find interior inspiration is actually in your closet. Designer Taniya Nayak explains: Do you wear monochromatic [outfits] typically? Loud patterns and bold colors? Understated and tailored with one eye-catching bauble? I think you have your answer. What you wear most often signals what you like, and that can be translated into your home decor. Nayaks style leans monochromatic, tailored, and textured, with elegant yet timeless accessories. Same for my wardrobe, same for my home, she says.Choose Vintage Michael Alan KaskelA decorative display by designer Rebekah Zaveloff.Secondhand pieces that have lived many lives usually exude character. Designer Rebekah Zaveloff often turns to vintage furniture rather than filling a room with new products right away and leaving vintage accessories to be an afterthought, she says. We let these special one-off pieces lead the way and then make the rest of the room work around them. We try to collect and spec as much vintage as possible so that things arent so matchy-matchy and so each space feels true and special to the people living there.Art is another category worth focusing on. After selecting art that reflects a clients interests, Zaveloff will source vintage frames that are mismatched so it looks like each piece of art was handed down over generations.Focus on FeelingBrie WilliamsA bedroom by designer Heidi Woodman.Think about how you want to feel in a space. The best interiors dont just serve a purpose; they move you, says designer Anu Jain. Every decision should be made with intentionlighting that transforms at dusk, a perfectly proportioned reading chair that cradles you, a dining space that invites long, lingering conversations. I always ask my clients, How do you want to feel in this space? The answer informs every material, texture, and detail. That being said, dont overlook the literal feel of everything. I gravitate toward touchable, sensorial materialshand-troweled plaster walls, rich boucle or mohair upholstery, marble with dramatic veining, Jain adds. Recently, we upholstered an intimate study in deep tobacco-hued suede, transforming it into a warm, cocoon-like retreat.Give It TimeAMY BARTLAMAn interior by designer Amy Sklar. No one wants to hear it, but developing deeply personal interiors takes time. From my perspective, the most personal interiors are spaces that have elements that the homeowner has a connection tothings that are loved because they have meaning, says designer Amy Sklar. Its successfully achieved through time and patience.Sklar points to TV-style home makeovers as the culprit for a widespread expectation of instantaneous results. Infusing a space with your own unique stamp with a collection of things that you love happens over time, she reiterates. You dont have to decorate everything in one fell swoop. The layering of materials and objects that have meaning is a marathon not a sprint. • Apple exec slams ugly and embarrassing Siri delays in all-hands meeting
    9to5mac.com
Were one week removed from Apples decision to indefinitely delay the more personalized version of Siri that was first announced at WWDC 2024, and the blowback hasnt let up. Now, Bloomberg has the details from an all-hands meeting for the Siri division inside Apple, where the Apple Intelligence delays were panned as ugly and embarrassing. The meeting was led by Robby Walker, a senior director of Siri and Information Intelligence at Apple. Walker has been at Apple since 2013, working across Siri technologies. During the meeting, Walker reportedly emphasized that its unclear when the promised Siri features will launch. This includes Siri with personal context, in-app actions, and on-screen awareness. Apples goal remains to ship these features at some point in the iOS 19, but Walker said it doesnt mean that were shipping then. In its current form, the new Siri features only work properly up to two-thirds to 80% of the time, Bloomberg reports: We have other commitments across Apple to other projects, Walker said, citing new software and hardware initiatives. We want to keep our commitments to those, and we understand those are now potentially more timeline-urgent than the features that have been deferred. He said decisions on timing will be made on a case-by-case basis as work progresses on products planned for next year.Customers are not expecting only these new features but they also want a more fully rounded-out Siri, he said. Were going to ship these features and more as soon as they are ready. As far as accountability is concerned, Walker told staffers that there is intense personal accountability shared by John Giannandrea, Apples Senior Vice President of Machine Learning and AI Strategy, and software boss Craig Federighi. Bloomberg reports that Apple doesnt plan to immediately fire any top executives over the AI crisis. It is, however, planning management adjustments in response to the problems, including moving more senior executives under Giannandrea to assist with a turnaround effort.Walker also called out Apples marketing departments decision to promote these features even though they werent ready. This decision [made] matters worse, according to Walker. But when Apple demonstrated the features at WWDC using a video mock-up, it only had a barely working prototype, Bloomberg has reported. Walker told staff in the meeting that the delays were especially ugly because Apple had already showed off the features publicly. This was not one of these situations where we get to show people our plan after its done, he said. We showed people before.Despite the struggles, Walker also praised the team for the incredibly impressive features and doubled down on the goal of shipping the worlds greatest virtual assistant. He told staff they should feel really proud of innovative work theyve done up to this point. Walker defended his Siri group, telling them that they should be proud. Employees poured their hearts and souls into this thing, he said. I saw so many people giving everything they had in order to make this happen and to make incredible progress together. But Apple wants to maintain a high bar and only deliver the features when theyre polished, he said. These are not quite ready to go to the general public, even though our competitors might have launched them in this state or worse.Walker compared the endeavor to an attempt to swim to Hawaii. We swam hundreds of miles we set a Guinness Book for World Records for swimming distance but we still didnt swim to Hawaii, he said. And we were being jumped on, not for the amazing swimming that we did, but the fact that we didnt get to the destination. While Apple has not shown public demos of the promised SIri upgrades, Walker did highlight several examples of the features working during this meeting. • Elon Reportedly Orders Government to Stop Feeding the Bomb-Sniffing Dogs
    futurism.com
As Elon Musk's so-called Department of Government Efficiency continues to plunder the federal government, even the Transportation Security Administration's bomb-sniffing K9 units aren't safe.According to an email obtained by Fox News reporter Jennifer Griffin, "ALL requests for everything," for the pups, including "vet visits, kenneling, dog food, etc" have been "put on hold until we receive guidance."The email was reportedly from the TSA's Security Operations National Explosives Detection Canine Program, which trains and deploys state and local law enforcement-led canine teams. It remains unclear who authored the email or when it was sent, but given the fact that Griffin has shared what appears to be a smartphone picture of a screen, the email is possibly sensitive in nature. Futurism has reached out to the TSA for comment.Over 300 dogs complete training at the program's facilities in Texas per year, according to an official website. It costs on average $33,000 to train a canine to detect explosives. More than 1,000 TSA canine teams are deployed nationwide, including passenger and cargo screening teams. But given the latest news, the program has seemingly been ground to a halt.Ironically, that's despite the White House celebrating "K9 Veterans Day" on Thursday, yet another glaring instance of the Trump administration not putting its money where its mouth is."Happy K9 Veterans Day to all of our heroic working dogs, including Conan who fearlessly participated in the military operation that ended ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi in 2019," the White House's official X-formerly-Twitter account wrote in a post.Meanwhile, it sounds like the TSA's explosives detection canine team is in chaos."I apologize for the confusion," the email reads, "but due to new guidance sent out last night, nothing is being approved at this time. Once I receive an update, I will be sure to share with all of you."A similar story is playing out at a vast number of other agencies, which have Musk's DOGE tear through their doors in search of what it claims to be "fraud."According to DOGE's website, the department has saved an estimated $115 billion. But given its track record of including egregious errors in its accounting, the real number of what DOGE has purportedly excised from government budgets remains unknown.Undermining the TSA's role, in particular, flies in the face of the Trump administration's "tough on crime" agenda, highlighting that Musk's haphazard approach to budget cutting may have little to do with the president's real motives. In other words, refusing to feed dogs trained to catch bad guys isn't just an incredibly bad look it runs directly counter to what Trump is putatively setting out to do.Share This Article

  • Trump: "Crooked Joe Sold Them Down the River With His Ridiculous All Electric Car Hoax"
    futurism.com
Earlier this week, president Donald Trump staged an impromptu infomercial in front of the White House in a desperate bid to prop up Elon Musk's embattled carmaker, Tesla. The bizarre appearance demonstrated Trump's unprecedented willingness to debase himself, putting on his best impression of a Tesla car salesman. The stunt wasn't just an unprecedented display of corruption; it also highlights Trump's shameless flip-flopping on his support for electric vehicles.Remember in 2023, when former president Joe Biden's administration made a concerted push to electrify American roadsand Trump accused him of selling out the United Auto Workers, who went on strike against major automakers to fight for higher wages and better union representation for battery plant workers?"Crooked Joe sold them down the river with his ridiculous all Electric Car Hoax," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post at the time, referring to the Biden administration subsidizing the EV industry.Republicans blamed the Biden administration's pro-EV stance for revenue losses incurred by major automakers.Trump's stance on EVs has bounced back and forth, from a full-throated endorsement to excoriating comments opposing their existence. In 2022, he went on a bizarre rant, arguing that we should get "rid of this stuff." Just two years earlier, he saidthat hewas "all for electric cars."Vice president JD Vance has similarly rallied against EVs, going as far as introducing a bill that called for $7,500 incentives for new gas or diesel-powered vehicles instead. But now that Musk has infiltrated the US government with the purported goal of excising $1 trillion in spending essentially doing the dirty work on behalf of the Trump administration the president is singing a dramatically different tune yet again."I dont like whats happening to you," Trump told Musk during this week's sales pitch, likely referring to Tesla's financial woes."Wow," he gushed, after climbing into a $80,000 Model S. "That's beautiful."Trump's actions and verbal promises have flatly contradicted each other. Last year, Trump told an audience during a campaign rally that he had "no choice" in being "for electric cars" now that "Musk endorsed me very strongly."Meanwhile, the Trump administration has rolled back Biden-era EV rules, nixing targets to have half of all new vehicles sold in the US to be electric by 2030, a non-legally-binding executive order signed by Biden in 2021.The administration's EPA also rolled back vehicle emissions targets this week.Whether Trump's stunt will have the intended effect of propping up the carmaker remains to be seen. As experts have pointed out, associating the already tarnished brand even more closely with the Trump administration could end up backfiring spectacularly.Even Tesla attempted to distance itself from the White House, arguing that the president's extremely harmful trade war could end up exposing it to retaliatory tariffs. In short, Trump's self-serving, on-and-off-again stance on EVs demonstrates that it never was about electrification or environmental policies. This week's White House showroom event was nothing short of a naked attempt to line the pocket of the richest man in the world.Put simply, Trump is pro-Tesla and pro-Musk not pro-EV.But Tesla is in crisis right now. With sales numbers falling from the sky worldwide, investors are starting to get cold feet. Even the brand's biggest bulls on Wall Street are concerned Musk's abhorrent behavior could leave lasting scars.Share This Article
