• Max just wiped its classic Looney Tunes lineup
    www.theverge.com
Warner Bros. Discovery has removed the entire lineup of classic Looney Tunes shorts (1930-1969) from its streaming service, Max. The company confirmed the move to Deadline, saying the streamer will prioritize adult and family programming, rather than content for kids. This comes after Warner Bros. Discovery yanked hundreds of Looney Tunes episodes at the end of 2022, and later erroneously included the series in its list of titles leaving the platform. At the time, the company said Looney Tunes will continue streaming on Max. Newer Looney Tunes content, like Looney Tunes Cartoons released in 2020 and 2015s New Looney Tunes, remains on Max.Max didnt immediately respond to The Verges request for comment.Tons of content has been on the chopping block following David Zaslavs takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery. Along with Looney Tunes, Warner Bros. Discovery ended its deal to stream Sesame Street on Max last year, and also replaced Cartoon Networks website with a link to sign up for its streaming service. Warner Bros. Discovery also canned its Coyote vs. Acme film starring John Cena.Despite this, the nearly-canceled Looney Tunes spinoff The Day the Earth Blew Up made its way to theaters over the weekend thanks to Ketchup Entertainment buying the distribution rights from Warner Bros. Discovery.

  • Stranger Things' Sadie Sink Insists Jean Grey X-Men Reports Are 'News to Me,' but Admits 'It's an Awesome Rumor'
    www.ign.com
Earlier this month, Sadie Sink, who plays Max Mayfield in Stranger Things, was reported to be set to star alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man 4. Deadline said that Sink, who made her film debut in the 2016 biographical sports drama Chuck, would appear in the upcoming MCU movie, which begins filming later this year and has a release date of July 31, 2026.Marvel and Sony had no comment when contacted by Deadline, but the publication speculated that Sink would play either X-Men character Jean Grey or "another beloved redheaded Spider-Man character."IGN subsequently dived deep into the Marvel characters Sadie Sink could play in Spider-Man 4 and beyond in the MCU.Now, speaking to Josh Horowitz in a new interview, Sink remained coy about the Jean Grey X-Men speculation, but admitted the rumor is "awesome.""This is news to me," Sink said in response to the Jean Grey / X-Men rumor.Sink was then asked if she had spoken to Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige or any Marvel representative about Jean Grey. No, she replied. I have nothing to say about this. Then: The rumors are really cool though. Its an awesome rumor!Sink said she knows the Jean Grey character: Its a great character, so it was cool to read! And finally, on the theoretical prospect of committing a significant amount of time and energy to potentially playing a MCU character for years, Sink responded: I think thats super exciting. And then the chat stopped, with Sink clearly wanting to keep her cards close to her chest. Horowitz mentioned revisiting the interview in the future when, perhaps, it is finally confirmed that Sink has a role in the MCU.Could Saide Sink play Jean Grey in Spider-Man 4? Photo by Arturo Holmes/WireImage.Late last year, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige teased the introduction of X-Men characters in the "next few" MCU movies.Feige told an audience at the Disney APAC Content Showcase in Singapore that fans would see some X-Men players that you might recognize in the next few MCU movies, but he stopped short of saying which characters or what movies. On bringing the X-Men into the MCU, Feige added: I think you will see that continues in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize.Right after that, the whole story of Secret Wars really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [its] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.At the time, Marvels next few movies, if we assume few to mean three, were Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts*, and then Phase Six kickstarter The Fantastic Four: First Steps in July 2025.Perhaps more likely are more mutant appearances throughout Phase 6 movies, which include 2026s Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man 4, and 2027s Avengers: Secret Wars. One of the key questions here will be whether Deadpool and Wolverine return to the MCU having seen such huge success with their own movie this summer. Could Channing Tatum also reprise his role as Gambit?Feige has also said the X-Men will be an important part of the MCUs future following Secret Wars. "When we were preparing for Avengers: Endgame years ago, it was a question of getting to the grand finale of our narrative, and then we had to start all over again after that, Feige said. This time, on the road to Secret Wars, we already know very well what the story is going to be until then and afterwards. The X-Men are an important part of that future. It sounds like Phase 7 of the MCU will be dominated by the X-Men, then, but in the short term, Storm appeared in What If...? Season 3, marking the characters first appearance in the wider MCU.In October, Marvel Studios added three untitled movie projects to its 2028 release schedule: February 18, 2028; May 5, 2028; and November 10, 2028. It seems increasingly likely one of these movies is X-Men.Image credit: Marvel Comics.Wesley is the UK News Editor for IGN. Find him on Twitter at @wyp100. • A Complete Guide To Weapons in Assassins Creed Shadows
    news.xbox.com
SummaryYasuke and Naoe each have access to unique weapons that dramatically impact how they fight in Assassins Creed Shadows.Pre-order Assassins Creed Shadows on the Microsoft Store for Xbox and get the Claws of Awaji expansion and Thrown to the Dogs bonus quest for free.Assassins Creed Shadows launches March 20, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S.Assassins Creed Shadows launches on March 20, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S and allows you play as two completely distinct characters: Naoe, an agile ninja, and Yasuke, a hulking samurai. Nearly everything about them is different, including what weapons they can use. Naoe and Yasuke can each equip up to two different weapon types to switch between, with each offering unique strengths and strategies to use in a fight. Here is a breakdown of all the weapons in Assassins Creed Shadows so you can find the right combination for any situation.Yasukes WeaponsLong KatanaA samurai is nothing without his katana, and Yasukes long katana is his fastest weapon type, allowing him to quickly slice through foes with deadly precision. While it doesnt have the longest range, its attack speed makes it ideal for dealing with small groups of enemies or for when you just want to feel like a samurai and slash through a wandering ronin who thought himself strong enough to challenge you.NaginataA polearm capable of sweeping attacks, the Naginata is perfect for dealing with large groups of enemies at once. While slower than the long katana, it has the longest reach of any of Yasukes melee weapons, allowing you to keep threats at a distance. Its also particularly useful when facing enemies with naginatas of their own.KanaboA massive club, what the Kanabo sacrifices in speed, it more than makes up for in sheer brute force. Even light attacks with the Kanabo can break an enemys guard and subsequent hits will dismantle any opponents armor and likely their entire health bar in seconds. The Kanabo is a slow weapon, so Yasuke can be vulnerable while using it in large groups when many different attackers can interrupt his swings.BowOne of Yasukes two ranged weapons, the bow is a silent killer. The ultimate tool in a stealthy Yasukes arsenal, its great at silently picking off guards from a distance. Certain abilities allow you to slow time while shooting or fire multiple arrows in quick succession, making the bow a viable option in a full-on fight as well.TeppoWhen silence isnt high on Yasukes list of priorities, the teppo rifle packs a serious punch but be prepared for it to attract a lot of attention as well. Youll have to reload after each shot, meaning you might need to hot swap to a melee weapon as enemies swarm. Its not just a one-trick-pony, though there are abilities that allow you to detonate a sack of gunpowder to create area-of-effect damage, and you can even use the rifle as a club to knock opponents down before shooting them, if you want to make an entrance.Naoes WeaponsKatanaDont let the name fool you. The way Naoe wields her katana, it might as well be a completely different weapon to Yasukes. A full combo of attacks with Naoes shorter katana is likely to feature as many kicks and flips as swings and slashes. A medium speed weapon in Naoes hands (to be fair, no weapons are slow in Naoes hands), the katana is a solid all-around choice, good for one-on-one fights and small groups.Tanto/Hidden BladeThe tanto is a dagger that Naoe wields with extreme speed, and couples with her Hidden Blade to unleash a flurry of rapid strikes on her enemies. Its range is minimal, so Naoe will have to get up close and personal to use it effectively, but its great for fighting singular enemies. As a bonus, a passive upgrade to Naoes Assassin mastery tab allows her to use the tanto to perform dual assassinations, but only if the tanto is one of her two equipped weapons.KusarigamaA scythe and a spikey metal ball connected by a long chain; the Kusarigama is arguably Naoes most versatile weapon. Light attacks mean quick strikes with the scythe end, while heavy attacks are sweeping swings with the metal ball end, perfect for dealing with large groups. Its huge range allows Naoe to keep her distance if she chooses.Theres never really a bad time to use Naoes Kusarigama, unless youre worried about collateral damage as those heavy swings will tear through everything from crates and shoji doors to bamboo trees and fruit baskets. Like the tanto, a passive ability in the Assassin mastery tab allows Naoe to use an equipped Kusarigama to rush assassinate targets, using the chain to hook enemies and launch herself in for the kill.ToolsNaoe doesnt have traditional ranged weapons like Yasuke, but she does have throwable tools that can help her kill, deal damage, and distract at a distance. Her kunai can take out many unarmored enemies in a single headshot, while her shuriken only deal minimal damage and are best used to stun enemies mid fight so you can regroup to go in for the kill.Upgrading WeaponsThere are multiple ways to upgrade your weapons in Assassins Creed Shadows. Each weapon type has a dedicated mastery tab that you can invest your mastery points in to increase damage and unlock new abilities. Weapons also have levels; you cannot equip a weapon that has a level greater than yours, but if youve built a Forge in your Hideout, you can upgrade lower-level weapons to meet your current player level, thereby increasing their base stats.Weapons come in five tiers of rarity: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, and Legendary. Uncommon weapons each come with a single engraved perk that provides a unique bonus, such as an increase to critical hit chance when striking multiple enemies. Rare and above weapons have two engraving slots, one with a predetermined perk, and another slot that allows you to select an individual perk from your Hideouts blacksmith. Like to use abilities while fighting? You can engrave a perk that increases your adrenaline gain (adrenaline allows you to use abilities) when striking afflicted enemies. Couple that with a weapon that causes bleeding or poison affliction, and your adrenaline will stay topped up.Theres no wrong weapon loadout or combination in Assassins Creed Shadows, and a master Assassin will learn to skillfully wield them all. As long as you have more health than your targets then youre doing just fine.Assassins Creed Shadows launches March 20, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S. • Everything You Need to Know About Sculleries
    www.countryliving.com
If youve ever read a kitchen design guide or walked through the halls of an old manor home, theres a good chance youve come across the term scullery. If youre like me, it might even conjure images of Downton Abbey or Gilded Age (Im team Russell, in case you were wondering!). And theres a reason for that. Sculleries, once reserved for the working members of grand houses, have now become the latest must-have addition to modern kitchens. Below, youll learn exactly what a scullery is, how it differs from spaces like the mudroom or butlers pantry, and how you can incorporate one into your own home. RELATED STORIES:Brie Williams for Country LivingThis North Carolina mountain homes scullery includes a small drink refrigerator. What is a modern day scullery? Historically, sculleries were spaces used by staff for cleaning up after elaborate meals. However, modern sculleries function much more like hardworking butlers pantries or dirty kitchens, a term popularized in recent years to identify a space off the kitchen where prep work and clean up can be done out of the view of guests. Design purists might argue that sculleries should still only be used as cleanup spaces. In reality, though, most contemporary homes dont have three separate spaces for prep, storage, and clean-up, so current iterations of the scullery are a versatile combination of all three. Additionally, todays sculleries are typically larger than traditional pantries. The Three Key Elements of a Scullery:Ample storage, either with open shelving or closed-door cabinetryA sink, and sometimes a dishwasherPrep space, often with butcher block countertopsAli Harper for Country LivingThis river cottages scullery was drenched in the dreamy shade of French Gray by Farrow & Ball. Why is it called a scullery? Scullery is the Anglicized version of escuelerie, an old Old French term for office of the servant in charge of plates. The earliest English usage of the word dates back to around 1440, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, which published its first definition for scullery in 1911. Today, the term is heavily linked to British kitchen design; on this side of the Atlantic, this space is more commonly referred to as a butlers pantry, or even just a walk-in pantry.Kitchen vs. SculleryThe main difference between a kitchen and scullery lies in their cooking capabilities. While a scullery might have a few small appliances and a sink (and maybe even a dishwasher), you wont find a range or oven. Any cooking done here is quick and simple, as sculleries are not equipped to make full meals. Additionally, sculleries are generally smaller than kitchens and not used for gathering. Even large sculleries are often only spacious enough to fit one or two people at a time. Laurey W. GlennThis scullery space designed by Lizzie Cox Interiors is often used for arranging florals. Mudroom vs. ScullerySculleries and mudrooms, though seemingly similar, are actually very different. A mudroom is typically located off the rear of the house, near a garage or back door and functions as a family dumping ground and pass-through area. Its the place where the kids store their sports gear and backpacks and where you might keep all your winter coats, not the place for washing up dishes or storing dry goods. In contrast, a scullery is devoted to general kitchen and housekeeping tasks. • Man Tests If Tesla Autopilot Will Crash Into Wall Painted to Look Like Road
    futurism.com
In a damning new video, YouTuber and former NASA engineer Mark Rober has perfectly demonstrated why Tesla relying entirely on visual data from a suite of cameras isn't such a good idea for driver-assistance tech. The Elon Musk-led EV maker has given up entirely on LIDAR or radar sensors, which its many competitors have been using for object detection for years, with Musk once calling LIDAR "fricking stupid, expensive and unnecessary."But by relying only on visual data, Tesla's Autopilot can easily be fooled by anything from heavy fog to a wall-scale painting of the road ahead, as Rober showed in his latest video. It's an incriminating piece of evidence, demonstrating how Tesla's approach could easily lead to a collision. Experts have long warned that the EV maker's cameras-only approach is dangerous, especially when LIDAR and radar exist as alternatives.Worse yet, Tesla is planning to roll out an "unsupervised" version of its infamous "Full Self-Driving" driver assistance software later this year, according to Musk, which could give already complacent drivers an even bigger false sense of security. An entire robotaxi service the entrepreneur is also hoping to roll out could exacerbate the glaring shortcoming.During a series of tests, Rober compares how a Tesla and a test vehicle equipped with LIDAR sensors, courtesy of the company Luminar, react to a child mannequin in the middle of the road. The Tesla fumbles right out of the gate. Despite registering the kid in the software, the vehicle's emergency braking system refuses to jump into action in time, causing Rober to plow right through the mannequin. The Autopiloted Tesla also failed to stop for the kid mannequin when fog machines obscured the scene. Heavy rain also fooled the system. In perhaps the most striking example in the video, Tesla was fooled by a Wile E. Coyote-style wall painted to look like the road ahead of it, causing the vehicle to plow right through it.Meanwhile, the Luminar-equipped Lexus SUV aced all the tests with flying colors."I can definitively say for the first time in the history of the world, Tesla's optical camera system would absolutely smash through a fake wall without even a slight tap on the brakes," Rober said in the video.Sure, a fake cartoon wall isn't exactly an obstacle we encounter on public roads very often, if ever. But Rober's testing perfectly illustrates larger shortcomings of relying soley on cameras.Tesla's driver assistance tech has already been linked to hundreds of injuries and dozens of deaths by regulators, showing the carmaker has plenty of work to do before its system is actually safe to use without supervision and whether it evencan with its fleet's current sensor hardware is looking increasingly dubious.Share This Article

  • Build Sustainable Data Centers in the Age of GenAI
    www.informationweek.com
Simon Ninan, Senior Vice President of Business Strategy, Hitachi VantaraMarch 17, 20254 Min ReadCagkan Sayin via Alamy StockGenerative AI has incredible potential to improve productivity and drive innovation across domains and sectors. But the challenge to enterprises is twofold as cost and carbon footprint complicate the path forward.GenAI models require growing volumes of data and storage, and the graphics processing units (GPUs) on which GenAI relies to move and process data require an enormous amount of energy to run. The complexities of price and power drain that result from the massive amounts of data and GPUs are a huge hurdle for enterprises seeking to create a greener, more sustainable future. This has important implications for hyperscalers and other enterprises that operate data centers, as well as for businesses, communities, and all living things across the planet.Despite barriers to early adoption, GenAI is here to stay. Software developers, support staff, and consumers are already using GenAI, which will only surge with greater applications and adoption, thus becoming as common as mobile devices. That said, sustainable data centers will be critical for GenAI expansion and the world.I predict that sustainable data centers will become mandatory in the next five years. Here are five steps to help your enterprise build a sustainable data center:Related:1. Address data managementData is the lifeblood of GenAI applications, so its important for enterprises to have data management systems and strategies that provide access to the right data at the right time.Application data may reside on premises, in the cloud or the edge. Ensure that your data management strategy enables you to access data from whichever platform suits your needs at the optimal cost and in a secure manner. This will contain costs, limit your risk, and help you differentiate your business. To address the rapidly growing data volume of GenAI, you should also explore compression technology, which can store the same data, with 60% less footprint, decreasing your need for power and lowering your carbon emissions.Distributed, dark data is another challenge. With so much data in so many places, you may not know where all of your data resides. Address that by using data cataloging, compliance, ediscovery and governance solutions to understand what data you have, where it sits, and how to integrate data to reduce waste and use your data to drive business results.Data governance and compliance can be tricky given the rapidly intensifying complexity. Many organizations lack the skills, industry knowledge and expertise to tackle this alone. Engage with a partner with deep industry knowledge that has baked that knowledge into their tools.Related:2. Explore your data storeOptimal data management will help you strike the right balance between the data storage and processing you need to support your GenAI applications and your sustainability commitments.Dont store multiple copies of data. Only hang on to the data that your business really needs.Keep the most important information in hot storage. Put the data for which you dont have an immediate need in cold storage, which will reduce your costs and lower your carbon footprint.Select a data storage solution that is highly engineered for performance and sustainability. Validate the solution by reviewing what independent third parties say about its sustainability.3. Process data where it livesData movement consumes time and power, so avoid unnecessarily moving data.Ensure you have the technology to process data close to the source and use metadata management to access what you need and transport only the data you need to move.4. Implement liquid cooling systemsGenAI attracted 100 million users in less than two months after launch, and an Enterprise Strategy Group study sponsored by Hitachi Vantara indicates that 97% of enterprises see GenAI as a top five priority. But the massive GPU infrastructure needed to power GenAI applications generates a lot of heat in data centers.Related:Over the years, companies have tried to cool equipment by doing everything from submerging data centers in the ocean to locating data facilities in remote parts of the world like Iceland. However, you dont need to dive deep or travel far to cool your data center. Instead, you can use liquid cooling, which can.5. Take a holistic approachRapidly growing data, GPU requirements and data centers -- and the complexity, risk and environmental impacts they entail -- make sustainability more important than ever. The green data center of the future will be simple, smart, secure, self-healing, scalable and sustainable. It calls for a holistic approach that addresses server, software and storage efficiency, employs the right mix of sustainable energy sources, and uncovers opportunities to use innovations and eco-friendly solutions to make the best use of data and limit carbon footprint. When companies and data centers are more sustainable, everybody benefits. The world becomes a better place, customers enjoy better outcomes and businesses grow stronger.About the AuthorSimon NinanSenior Vice President of Business Strategy, Hitachi VantaraSimon Ninan is senior vice president of business strategy, responsible for developing and driving aligned execution of Hitachi Vantaras business strategy for the short and long term, with the goal of maximizing customer and stakeholder value, while driving growth, innovation and market leadership.Simon holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Information Science and an MBA in Strategy and International Business.
