The Roman Empire has fallen, and Ive barely escaped with my life. Im now in a thick forest, surrounded by angry bears and ornery goats, and Ive been forced to participate in the time-honored tradition of collecting sticks and stones so I can build basic accommodations. The day can be dangerous, but the night is where things really get hairy. The zombies who brought about the fall of Rome are now coming for me, and by the time the sun is back up, my basic village is coated in a layer of blood.On March 18, I sat down for an alpha preview of Romestead with Swedish developer Beartwigs and publisher Three Friends hosted over Discord. Romestead is Beartwigs first game, but my play session showed a lot of promise.Romestead is a clever portmanteau of Rome and homestead a natural fit, since this game takes place in a fantasy version of the fall of Rome. Players take the role of refugees fleeing the Roman Empire, which has collapsed in part due to a sudden zombie plague. Its now time to build our own town, which is easier said than done. Players need to pay fealty to the Roman pantheon, find survivors and put them to work, fend off waves of undead, and hunt mythical beasts.The core gameplay loop will be very familiar to those who have played Valheim; at first, you can only build a humble settlement with limited industry. Slaying a beast of myth opens up new technologies and structures, allowing players to expand their territory and become more powerful, with resources like blacksmiths and siege artillery. As you explore through the six biomes plains, forest, swamp, desert, volcanic, and a massive abandoned city itll become important to build forward bases and expand a fledgling empire of your own.Aesthetically, Romestead borrows heavily from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and Terraria. The game has a top-down perspective, and much like in other survival crafters, the early game is focused on building basic structures and rudimentary defenses. Romestead cuts down on some of the smaller frustrations of the genre, like having to switch between tools, or manually equipping a torch. As soon as a tool is in your inventory, the game will simply auto-equip it when youre in the right context.Once the basics of preparing a settlement are done, its time to build more productive structures, like a leatherworks. Someone needs to staff the place, so it becomes necessary to strike out, find a survivor, and invite them back to your base. After they get settled, they become your responsibility you need to feed them, give them a job theyre well suited for, and monitor their happiness.I can see Romestead being a treat for groups of friends, since the wide scope means theres something for everyone to do. Some might stay back at the base, making sure the vendors are whipping up top-tier gear and cooking up some goat meat, while an adventuring party may strike out to find offerings for the gods or map their mysterious surroundings.Theres no release date for Romestead yet; Three Friends and Beartwigs will eventually open the game up for alpha testing. During the course of my hourlong preview, I built a catapult, explored a dank dungeon, slew a massive owl-beast, and scratched at the upgrade trees for my character and my settlement. Theres a lot of depth beyond that experience, and if Beartwigs can deliver on that promise, this game might just become my metaphorical Roman Empire something I return to again and again.

Instead, youll only become wanted in a province when attacking a castle or enemy base that has an alarm bell and failing to stop an enemy from ringing that bell.Avoiding an alarm is fairly simple once you have tools or ranged weapons at your disposal, both of which you can use to disable the bell before its able to be rung.Youll also have plenty of warning before an alarm goes off, as enemies will glow red and need to make a long climb up the ladder on their way to the bell, giving you a chance to knock them down or disable the alarm before they get up there.What happens when youre wanted in Assassins Creed ShadowsIf the alarm is rung, youll instantly become wanted. This means two things:Powerful guardian enemies will enter the area almost immediately (they all wear animal masks and have a red icon above their health bars). The game refers to these as the hardest enemies in the game, but really they just have a lot of health, making them impossible to assassinate as Naoe at low levels and tedious to fight for Yasuke. But trust us, you can beat them.When playing as the character who triggered the alarm, youll be attacked on sight by any enemy in the province youre wanted in. In other words, if you trigger the alarm as Yasuke in Shoryuji Castle, then casually try to stroll down the streets of Kyoto as Yasuke, youll get attacked by any enemy who sees you.Wanted levels are unique to provinces, so attaining a wanted status in Yamashiro will not make you wanted in Izumi Settsu unless you also raise an alarm there in the same season.One way to work around the wanted level without clearing it is to swap characters. The character that you were playing when the alarm was rung is wanted, while the other will remain anonymous. Well, unless theyre wanted too because, yes, both characters can be wanted at the same time.And even if you do change characters, guardians can still appear in a castle, so this workaround only really applies to guards in town and enemies on the road. So youre better off just clearing your wanted level.How to clear wanted level in Assassins Creed ShadowsThere are two ways to remove your wanted level: change the season or use scouts. Of course, the extent to which those options are available to you depends on how much youve invested in your Hideout.The simplest and most passive way to stop being wanted is to wait it out. Your wanted level resets every time the season changes, so eventually youll lose your wanted status and can invade castles to your hearts content. You can also manually change seasons via the Map menu, but this isnt always an option.The quickest and most efficient way to clear the wanted status comes via a Hideout upgrade. Once you upgrade your Kakurega building to level 2 in your Hideout, youll be able to spend two scouts to clear any provinces wanted level. You can sign up to receive this newsletter every weekhere.Nvidias Jensen Huang: The world got DeepSeek totally wrongAt Nvidias GTC developer event in San Jose this week, CEO Jensen Huang called it AIs Super Bowl. Indeed, Nvidia is the chip supplier of the AI boom, and arguably the most influential (and certainly most profitable) company in the growing AI industry. As it does every year, the company used Huangs keynote to announce its next-generation chips, which will power the training and operation of the AI models of the near future.Huang introduced a new platform called Vera Rubin, which includes Nvidias first custom-designed CPU, Vera, and two new Rubin GPUs. (The platform is named after astronomer Vera Rubin, who discovered evidence of dark matter.) Nvidia says Vera is twice as fast as the Arm-based CPU in last years Blackwell platform. Together, Vera and Rubin deliver more than double the inference performance of Blackwell.Huang also revealed Blackwell Ultra, a more powerful version of the current flagship GPU, with increased compute and memory. Its expected to launch in the second half of 2025.These platformsespecially Vera Rubinare designed to boost performance during inference, the real-time reasoning AI models perform to generate answers. Huang stressed the growing need for chips that can rapidly process and store massive amounts of data during inference. In a pointed comment, he said almost the entire world got it wrong about the DeepSeek phenomenon, referencing the Chinese startup that claimed it could train top-tier models with fewer, weaker GPUs. The amount of computation we need as a result of agentic AI, as a result of reasoning, is easily 100 times more than we thought we needed this time last year, he said. In other words, inference demand is set to soarand with it, demand for Nvidia hardware.Huang also updated Project Digits, a desktop AI platform for developers, researchers, and students. It will ship in two versions: a compact GTX Spark, and a larger GTX Station capable of running more complex models. While not the most advanced, theyre optimized for lighter enterprise tasks and run efficiently on Nvidia chipsoffering yet another incentive for companies to stay within the Nvidia ecosystem.Big AI gives the Trump administration pointers on its AI Action PlanAs the U.S. government rethinks its approach to artificial intelligence, the emerging consensus around this second Trump administration is clear: minimal oversight, maximum freedom for industry. The working theory is that President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance would take a hands-off approach to AI regulation, favoring rapid innovation over safety mandates.Both Trump and Vance have emphasized the need for U.S. AI companies to operate without transparency mandates or safety guidelines, arguing that this freedom is essential for global leadership. The AI future is not going to be won by hand-wringing about safety, Vance said during a February speech at the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris. On day one, the administration rescinded the Biden-era AI safety and transparency guidelines, which were largely voluntary.The Trump team is reportedly developing its own AI policy. As part of that effort, the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) solicited public input on an AI Action Plan. The plan, according to the OSTP request, aims to define priority policy actions needed to sustain and enhance Americas AI dominance while avoiding unnecessarily burdensome requirements on private-sector innovation. OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google also called for protecting the Copyright Acts fair use provision, which allows AI labs to train models on publicly available data.Still, some comments signaled a more nuanced view of risk. Anthropic urged the government to create mechanisms for assessing whether private-sector models could pose national security threats, and suggested opening dedicated communication channels between intelligence agencies and major AI labs.Interestingly, OpenAI seems to favor a ban on models from Chinese startup DeepSeek, citing national security concerns similar to those that led to the U.S. ban on Huawei equipment. For long or complex threads, it precomputes summaries. It can draft replies in your writing style, prompt you to respond to urgent or high-priority messages, and learn contacts communication patterns to time your replies for maximum visibility. It also helps organize your inbox by automatically routing less important emailslike marketing, social updates, or cold pitchesinto separate folders.Vohra claims Superhuman can save users up to four hours per week. One internal study by a major consulting firm found it saved partners 3.3 hours weekly, sped up response times by 3.6 hours, and increased email throughput by 60%.At $30 to $40 per month, Superhuman isnt cheap. The chronicle of the polygonal failure known as the Cybertruck continues as Tesla issues a new physical recall that covers all 2024 and 2025 models built between November 13, 2023, and February 27, 2024.In the announcement, Elon Musks company says that the stainless steel panel of the cantrail assembly may delaminate at the adhesive joint, which may cause the panel to separate from the vehicle. The cantrail is the portion of the roof that joins the pillars that form the vehicles roof structure. Tesla adds that, if the cantrail panel separates from the vehicle while in drive, it could create a road hazard for following motorists and increase the risk of injury or a collision.The company claims that it will replace the cantrail assembly with one that meets durability testing requirements. Why the one now in place doesnt meet durability testing requirements is anyones guess, but Tesla is well known for using components that dont meet durability testing, like when it implemented touchscreens in its Model S in 2012. Tesla sourced screens and electronics that were not graded for cars, so they failed.We also know that the Cybertrucks design is so bad that it has affected the companys ability to manufacture it properly, as Musk himself has admitted. But this is just shoddy craftsmanship.The Cybertruck has been plagued with a seemingly endless litany of construction quality problems, which we have compiled here. And for those keeping tabs and watching Teslas stock sink into oblivion, this recall shows that Tesla has sold far fewer than Musk would like you to believe.
