One of the, if no the most widely used artificial material in the world right now is concrete. We keep building things so we need to have this as a basic foundation for most structures among other things. However, the production of concrete is also one of the worst polluting processes that hurts our planet. The basic material used for it is sand which also contributes to the destruction of coasts, seafloors, and riverbeds. Good thing we have scientists working on finding an alternative to this and a solution to the problem.Designer: Northwestern UniversityScientists at the Northwestern University are experimenting with a new cement sand substitute that only uses three main elements: seawater, electricity, and CO2. This eliminates the need to strip mine sand from its natural environment which affects the ecosystem. Harmful gaseous byproducts are also removed from the process and the only one left is hydrogen, which can be turned into clean fuel. Even the CO2 used could come from the emissions from regular cement production, adding a greener cycle to the process. So how does this actually work? The simple explanation is that the process involves zapping seawater with electricity and bubbling CO2 through it, resulting in solid minerals. The more detailed explanation is that you put two electrodes in a tank to emit an electrical current that splits the molecules into hydrogen gas and hydroxide ions. Then add CO2 to increase the levels of bicarbonate ions. It then produces solid minerals at the electrodes and the result is a white material that can replace sand or gravel in cement. It can also be a foundational powder for other materials like plaster and paint. The materials properties can be adjusted by modifying the flow rate, timing, and duration of the CO2 and seawater, as well as the voltage and current of the electricity. This level of control over the materials properties opens up a vast array of potential applications, from customized concrete mixes for specific building needs to specialized plasters and paints with enhanced durability. Moreover, the modular nature of the process allows for decentralized production, potentially placing these reactors near existing cement plants, creating a closed-loop system where emissions are directly captured and repurposed. Ultimately, this innovation represents more than just a new building material. Note that slots require an increasing number of food vendors in order to be unlocked, so the first one will require a single vendor, then second ration will require two vendors, and so on.Food vendors can easily be found in most inhabited locations, and are readily visible on the map using the legend or at the closest zoom level.How To Upgrade RationsIn order to enhance the efficacy of your rations, you will need to construct two distinct rooms in your Hideout. Begin with the Iron Hand Guild questline in Izumi Settsu, in order to be able to build the Zashiki for the initial 20% increase to health restoration.Next, embark on the People of Yamashiro questline in Yamashiro to unlock the construction of the Tea Room, for an additional 20% increase to ration efficiency. Cloudflare, one of the biggest network internet infrastructure companies in the world, has announced AI Labyrinth, a new tool to fight web-crawling bots that scrape sites for AI training data without permission. The company says in a blog post that when it detects inappropriate bot behavior, the free, opt-in tool lures crawlers down a path of links to AI-generated decoy pages that slow down, confuse, and waste the resources of those acting in bad faith.Websites have long used the honor system approach of robots.txt, a text file that gives or denies permission to scrapers, but which AI companies, even well-known ones like Anthropic and Perplexity AI, have been accused of ignoring. Cloudflare writes that it sees over 50 billion web crawler requests per day, and although it has tools for spotting and blocking the malicious ones, this often prompts attackers to switch tactics in a never-ending arms race.Cloudflare says rather than block bots, AI Labyrinth fights back by making them process data that has nothing to do with a given websites actual data. The company says it also functions as a next-generation honeypot, drawing in AI crawlers that keep following links to fake pages deeper, whereas a regular human being wouldnt. It says this makes it easier to fingerprint malicious bots for Cloudflares list of bad actors as well as identify new bot patterns and signatures it wouldnt have detected otherwise. Minecraft Live 2025 is done and dusted, and developer Mojang has announced a long list of new upgrades and content coming to the best-selling video game of all time.Mojang revealed Minecraft's first game drop of the year, called Spring to Life. This will introduce a variety of updates to the Overworld that will make biomes "feel more immersive and alive," such as new variants for cows, pigs, and chickens, and new ambient features and sounds (glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and whispers of sand). Spring to Life launches on March 25.The second game drop of the year doesn't have a name just yet, but we do know what it will include. There's a new block called the Dried Ghast that can be rehydrated to form a new mob variant called a Ghastling (baby ghast, essentially), which in turn can become the new Happy Ghast mob variant. The Ghast harness is used to fly the Happy Ghast, which can carry up to four players.PlayToday's big update was a major visual upgrade for Minecraft called 'Vibrant Visuals,' "the first step in expressing our developers vision for a visual upgrade that will transform the way our players experience Minecraft," Mojang said.
