New Zealand-based Rocket Lab has launched its third satellite-deployment mission in two weeks, marking a new record for the up-and-coming SpaceX rival. The Finding Hot Wildfires Near You mission lifted off from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1, Pad B, in Mahia, New Zealand, on Wednesday local time.Recommended VideosYou can watch the rocket lift off in the video below:Please enable Javascript to view this contentNice liftoff in the dark today! pic.twitter.com/rIaMaQPWYR Peter Beck (@Peter_J_Beck) March 27, 2025Using its workhorse Electron rocket, the mission deployed eight satellites to a low-Earth orbit for Germany-based global wildfire and detection company OroraTech. The mission marks a major expansion of OroraTechs constellation, improving its global capabilities and connectivity with a network of advanced thermal sensors. The technology offers continuous real-time monitoring of wildfires and hotspots, enabling emergency services to respond more rapidly.Rocket Lab founder and CEO Sir Peter Beck said this latest mission offered precise deployment for optimal global wildfire monitoring, adding that he was proud of the teams consistent performance as we aim for another record-breaking year in launch with Electron. This was Rocket Labs fifth launch of the year, and its 63rd launch overall, bringing the total count of satellites deployed by Electron to 224.The Finding Hot Wildfires Near You mission is the third Electron launch within two weeks from Launch Complex 1, putting Rocket Lab on a path to reach its target of 20 launches for this year. While SpaceX continues to dominate the satellite-launch market with its go-to Falcon 9 rocket, Rocket Lab is steadily building its business as it seeks to capture more of the sector. As part of its expansion plans, the company launched its first mission from U.S. soil in 2023. It will also use its Virginia launch site for the maiden flight of its considerably more powerful Neutron rocket, which is expected to take place later this year.Similar to how SpaceX brings home the Falcon 9s first stage so that it can be flown multiple times, Rocket Lab is also building a sea-based landing platform for the Neutron.Beck has previously said that he sees the Neutron rocket as the last piece of the puzzle in creating a comprehensive space enterprise.Editors Recommendations

Tesla says it'll be entering the Saudi market in April. The company said its launch event in Riyadh will "showcase what's next in AI and robotics."This comes at a crucial time Tesla is reeling from declining sales and a falling stock price.Elon Musk's Tesla has been admitted into the gulf's largest economy, Saudi Arabia, at a crucial time for the electric vehicle producer. On Wednesday, Tesla announced it will be holding a launch event in Saudi Arabia's capital, Riyadh, on April 10."You and your family are warmly invited to our launch event at the Bujairi Terrace on April 10," the announcement on Tesla's website read."Experience the future of autonomous driving with Cybercab, and meet Optimus, our humanoid robot, as we showcase what's next in AI and robotics," it added. The announcement said a Tesla team will be on hand to answer questions regarding Tesla ownership, home charging, and more.Tesla's entry into Saudi Arabia is a surprise, considering Musk's testy relationship with the country.Back in August 2018, Musk announced in an X post that he would be taking Tesla private."Am considering taking Tesla private at $420. Funding secured," Musk wrote.Musk explained in a company blog that he had met with representatives from Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, the Public Investment Fund. The meetings started in early 2017 after he expressed interest in taking Tesla private, Musk added."Obviously, the Saudi sovereign fund has more than enough capital needed to execute on such a transaction," Musk wrote. But the deal did not take place. Musk and Tesla were sued by Tesla investors, who said Musk's premature announcement caused them to lose money.Saudi Arabia opening its doors to Tesla comes at a critical time for the EV maker, which has seen its stock price plunge by over 40% from its record highs in mid-December.Tesla's shares closed at about $272 on Wednesday, down from a peak closing price of $479 in December. The company has also lost its spot as the world's top EV manufacturer, with Chinese EV giant BYD's revenue outpacing Tesla's in 2024. BYD recently unveiled chargers that it says are four times more powerful than Tesla's and can charge an EV in 5 minutes. On Tuesday, the European Automobile Manufacturers Association said Tesla's sales in Europe have fallen by 42% in the first two months of the year.Representatives for Tesla did not respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.

  • Ukrainian F-16 pilot says Russia's battlefield actions show its troops think NATO jets are higher quality and fear them

Russia's troops tend to retreat when encountering NATO fighters, a Ukrainian F-16 pilot said.He said Ukraine tends to deploy its F-16s and Mirages for cover missions or in precise strikes. His comments were part of the first video interview Ukraine has published with an F-16 pilot.A Ukrainian F-16 pilot said Moscow's forces appear to particularly shy away from Western aircraft because they know how deadly the jets can be.Ukraine's air force released his comments on Wednesday as part of its first-ever video interview with an F-16 pilot. His face was obscured, and the air force said it withheld the pilot's name and call sign for security purposes."With the arrival of Western equipment, the situation with carrying out fighter cover missions has improved," said the pilot in Ukrainian. "We now have different weaponry, more high-quality weaponry. The Russians understand that as well."He said Ukraine has been deploying its American F-16 Fighting Falcons and French Mirage 2000-5s in more close-range encounters."From their actions, we can see that they are starting to retreat. They are afraid to approach us," he added. "After all, there is a living person sitting there, too, who also does not want to die."The pilot said Ukraine has been using its F-16s for tactical strikes like "a scalpel," while its Soviet MiG-29s, Su-24s, and Su-27s are assigned more widely to suppress and destroy targets like "hammers and sledgehammers."Ukraine's Soviet aircraft are often sent to bomb Russian targets at close range, which the pilot said means his comrades have to fly "dangerously close to the front line."So Ukraine sends it F-16s and Mirages to provide cover for their Soviet counterparts, he said. That style of attack has materially changed how Moscow's troops react, the pilot added."They know roughly the technical characteristics of our weaponry. They know where to advance, where to retreat," he said, adding that Ukraine has been trying to exploit those gaps. The pilot also said the F-16 and Mirage offer Ukraine the ability to conduct "very, very precise" strikes."At the moment, we can only strike at tactical depth," he said of Ukrainian pilots assigned to NATO fighters. "But these attacks are extremely precise.""If we want, our bomb can fly straight through someone's window," he added. The Russian Defense Ministry did not respond to a comment request sent by Business Insider. Please help BI improve our Business, Tech, and Innovation coverage by sharing a bit about your role it will help us tailor content that matters most to people like you. The F-16's edge over Ukraine's Soviet aircraftThe F-16 is an older design by Western standards with more than 50 years of service but is still valued by Ukraine for its ability to carry and launch a wide array of NATO precision-guided munitions against both air and land targets. These include the Joint Direct Attack Munition - Extended Range, which has a reported range of 50 miles, and the AIM-120, a medium-range air-launched missile that takes out other aviation targets. Ukraine has both weapons. This capability means that the F-16 can be a versatile tool for fighting other aircraft, conducting ground strikes, or suppressing Russian air defenses. Some of its Soviet aircraft, like the MiG-29, are also multirole fighters, but the F-16 has better radar systems, electronic jammers, and range. In January, Ukraine said one of its pilots destroyed a record of six Russian missiles in a single sortie.Meanwhile, Dassault's Mirage is another combat-proven aircraft being sent to Ukraine, though it's generally limited to firing French munitions. For example, it can launch the long-range Storm Shadow cruise missile but has to stick with the shorter-range MICA air-to-air missile when dealing with aerial targets.Kyiv has been receiving F-16s from European allies since the summer of 2024 and got its first tranche of Mirages from France in February.Ukraine has been tight-lipped about the number of jets it's received. Countries like Belgium, the Netherlands, and Denmark have pledged to deliver over 100 F-16s to Ukraine, but the entire process can take months to years.Still, Ukraine has to be careful with its valuable Western jets. Russia's surface-to-air missile defenses, such as the S-400, are formidable, and Ukrainian pilots have been known to limit flying altitude or range to lower exposure to them.Kyiv has already lost one F-16 when a top pilot crashed in August while fighting cruise missiles and drones near the capital.Earlier this month, several pro-Kremlin Telegram channels said that another F-16 was shot down in the Sumy region. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy rejected the report when speaking to journalists on March 19."The Russians are lying that they shot down something there, they didn't shoot down anything," he said.Zelenskyy has said that Ukraine needs 128 F-16s to fight effectively against Russia.Recently, Ukraine's F-16 program was thrown into question when President Donald Trump paused military aid to Kyiv in early March. The aid was eventually resumed when Ukraine agreed to US-brokered terms for a cease-fire.

The project is located in Fengwu Village, Biyang Town, Yixian County, Huangshan City, and is a sub-project of the " IARA Rural Revitalization Fengwu Ji." The site is in the heart of Fengwu Village, originally home to an old residence that, over time, was replaced by a small village square. However, due to its incompatibility with the local climate, the square was rarely used. The design aims to transform this underutilized space into a vibrant public area.Save this picture!Save this picture!Out of respect for history, the new structure is built upon the imprint of the old residence, employing a spatial weaving approach to reconstruct and integrate into the rural fabric using local materials and contemporary architectural language. Beyond being a museum, it serves as the village's spiritual core and a daily gathering place. In a way, this building represents the construction of a contemporary rural "ancestral hall." The museum is elevated to the second floor, while the ground level remains open, forming a semi-outdoor public space that provides shelter from wind and rain.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The architecture, along with the surrounding village houses, encloses a courtyard, continuing the traditional Hui-style "skywell" layout. Traditional local materials such as grey tiles, white walls, and wooden structures are used but with modern refinements. The white walls are made using local river sand mixed with cement and lime in a specific ratio, then hand-washed to create a weathered texture that evokes the passage of time. The wooden panels are surface-charred, forming a carbonized layer that enhances fire resistance and durability while also imbuing them with an aged appearance.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The second-floor "Rural Memory Hall" features hidden skylights, creating a tranquil and introspective atmosphere. The exhibition, themed the "Poetry of Life," weaves together villagers' old objects with personal stories and emotions, unfolding in three chapters: "Birth," "Growth," and "Inheritance." It narrates the journey of ordinary people from childhood to family life and eventually to the end of life, reconstructing the village's history and evoking local memories and emotions. This fosters a sense of rural identity and serves as an interpretation and translation of individual memories into collective village culture.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The "Rural Memory Museum" is not a tribute to grand historical narratives, nor is it a static display of artifacts; rather, it focuses on ordinary individuals and embodies deep humanistic care. At the same time, it serves as a place for villagers to gather for daily leisure, weddings, funerals, and festive celebrations. Even before the construction was completed, local residents had spontaneously held several village feasts here, which was exactly what the team had hoped to see. Therefore, after the museum was completed, villagers were also invited to participate, with a village banquet serving as the opening ceremony. Here, old memories continue, and new lives unfoldthe "Rural Memory Museum" has become the new spiritual center of the village.Save this picture!Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessAbout this officeIARAOfficeMaterialsMaterials and TagsPublished on March 27, 2025Cite: "FW JIThe Rural Memory Museum / IARA" 27 Mar 2025. • Global marine heatwave of 202324 was viewed as unlikely but not impossible given current warming

Nature, Published online: 26 March 2025; doi:10.1038/d41586-025-00888-5Global sea surface temperatures in 202324 exceeded the previous record by an unprecedented margin. Observation-based statistical models and climate models suggest that such jumps in ocean temperatures are unlikely to occur even with global warming but are almost impossible without it. In climate models, temperatures revert to the long-term warming trend in the years after such jumps.

The Witcher 4 Will Not Be Launched Before 2027The Witcher 4 is perhaps the most anticipated title from Polish developer CD Projekt Red, and it aims to be the studio's "most advanced" game ever. It's been a while since we learned that the game, codenamed Polaris, entered a full production period since last November. However, if you wish for the 2026 release window, you could be disappointed CD Projekt Red has confirmed that The Witcher 4 will not be released until at least 2027.This was revealed during the company's latest earnings call (starting around the 20-minute mark). CD Projekt Red's Chief Financial Officer Piotr Nielubowicz answered an inquiry about the release date, saying, "We are not going to announce the precise launch date for the game yet. All we could share now to give more visibility to investors is that the game will not be launched within the time frame of the first target for the incentive program, which ends December 31, 2026."Last December, during The Game Awards 2024, its first announcement trailer was released, confirming Ciri as the protagonist, who will be more agile and faster, according to the game's executive producer Magorzata Mitrga. Yet, if you wonder if Geralt will be back, this remains a mystery because Doug Cockle, the voice actor for Geralt in The Witcher series and the one who said he would, now isn't sure if it's true or not.Besides the new installment, there are some other Witcher projects in the works at the studio, including a Witcher spin-off,Project Sirius, and aWitcher remake, which is codenamed Canis Majoris and will come after The Witcher 4.

  • Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium Games Closes Its Los Angeles Office
    cgshares.com
Cloud Imperium Games, the studio behind Squadron 42 and the most expensive indie game of all time, Star Citizen, continues its internal shifts in preparation for Star Citizen 1.0s official release, announcing the closure of its Los Angeles office in the latest edition of the studios Chairmans Club newsletterThe team stated that they are currently taking steps to ensure Star Citizens developers are where they need to be for the final stretch, which involves relocating key staff to be closer to their teams and counterparts in other studios such as those in Manchester, Montreal, Austin, and Frankfurt and shutting down the LA branch. To honor the contributions of the Los Angeles studio, CIG is also gifting all Chairmans Club members an in-game replica of the Constellation artwork that hung above Game Designer Chris Roberts desk for many years. At the moment, it remains unclear whether the offices shutdown will result in layoffs for its former employees, however, given Cloud Imperiums widespread job cuts last year reportedly carried out with zero compensation and the termination of several top executives, a new round of job cuts certainly seems like a highly probable scenario.CIGThe silver lining for those waiting for Star Citizens release appears to be that the office closure wont have much, if any, impact on the development pipeline, as according to an earlier 2024 Letter From the Chairman, the LA branch primarily focused on marketing, legal, finance, and HR rather than the actual game development, serving in a supporting role to other offices. One way or another, it seems highly unlikely that the office was closed due to a lack of finances, as Cloud Imperium Games has by now raised a jaw-dropping $795 million, making it not only the most expensive indie game of all time, but also one of the most expensive video games overall, standing alongside such titans as Call of Duty and Genshin Impact, known for throwing exorbitant piles of cash at the development and marketing departments.Interestingly, Cloud Imperium Games is not the only developer downsizing its California-based teams recently, with the other one being Sony, which recently conducted two separate rounds of layoffs, affecting the companys global headquarters in San Mateo and the San Diego-based Visual Arts studio, responsible for producing art, animation, and providing technical support for first-party game studios like Naughty Dog.Dont forget to join our80 Level Talent platformand ournew Discord server, follow us onInstagram,Twitter,LinkedIn,Telegram,TikTok, andThreads, where we share breakdowns, the latest news, awesome artworks, and more.Source link The post Star Citizen Developer Cloud Imperium Games Closes Its Los Angeles Office appeared first on CG SHARES.
