  • Assassins Creed Shadows 10 Things to Do After Rolling the Credits
    gamingbolt.com
Assassins Creed Shadowsis a far more restrained experience thanAssassins Creed Odyssey, and it certainly isnt the out-of-control gargantuan monster thatValhallawas- but even so, its far, farfrom a small game. Ubisofts feudal Japan epic touts a huge world thats brimming with things to do, in typicalAssassins Creed(and Ubisoft) fashion- to the unsurprising extent that youre likely going to have still plenty left to do once you have seen through the main story. So, if youre looking to keep exploring and getting immersed in Shadowsrendition of feudal Japan even once credits have rolled, here, we are going to point you in the direction of all the activities and lingering content that will let you do just that.FIND ALL LEGENDARY LOOTThere is loot to be found throughout the world ofAssassins Creed Shadows,to no ones surprise, and of course, some of it is more special than the rest. Legendary Chests found in specific castles are the only chests in the game that arent randomly generated, instead coming with prescribed, tailored loot, which almost always happens to be quite special. This legendary loot can range from the deadliest of weapons to the most useful armor, from nifty engravings to gear with perks that can change the tide in unique ways. It is, in a nutshell, always a good idea to go out looking for castles where you can kill all the daisho so you can then get your hands on the legendary chest. In case you havent cleared every single castle by the time you are done with the main story which is pretty likely, given just how many of them there are scattered throughout the substantial map wed recommend getting started on that.CHECK OUT THE SHIPSAssassins Creed Shadowsdoesnt shine a light on naval gameplay the way many of its predecessors have done, but its not like there are no ships to check out in its open world. Often youll find ships in bays and at harbours at different points inShadowsmap, and though there are some that the game takes you to in certain quests (both main and side), the majority of just floating out there, waiting to be explored as completely optional content. Our advice? Track them all down. Theres valuable loot to be found on many a ship inShadowsmap, if not as valuable as that found in the aforementioned castles, and it also shouldnt take nearly as long as some of the other activities were discussing here will.FULLY EXPLORE THE MAPThis is an obvious one, but worth bringing up nonetheless- this is an exploration-driven open world game, after all.Assassins Creed ShadowsJapan is, as mentioned, nowhere near as sprawling as Odysseys Ancient Greece, or as bloated asValhallas9th century England, but its a big, chunky map in its own right, which means chances are high (to put it mildly) that you wont have seen everything that it has to show by the time you roll the credits. Exploration and traversal are particularly fun inShadows,so uncovering whatever is left of the map for you after the critical path has been wrapped up should be a great excuse to continue spending time with the game.DO ALL HIDDEN TRAILSIf youve as taken withAssassins Creed Shadowstraversal mechanics as we are, Hidden Trails may very well rank among the games most enjoyable side activities. Exclusive to Naoe, these challenges are all platforming focused, which means theyre an absolute blast, while they also always dole out useful rewards in the form of Epic gear. Of course, given that there are just ten of these trails to be found throughout the map, you may have burned through them all by credits, but if you havent, wed suggest seeking out every single one.HORSE ARCHERYWhile Naoe gets exclusive parkour-focused hidden trails, Yasuke can engage in a little bit of horseback archery at certain spots. From finding the horse archery spots themselves to undertaking each ones unique obstacles and challenges, horse archery activities generally tend to be quite fun. Theres ten available, similar to the hidden trails, so you can easily blow through these within the bounds of the main story itself, if you want to.MAX OUT ALL MASTERY TREESBuilding on the RPG foundations of its immediate predecessors,Assassins Creed Shadowstouts a pretty expansive web of progression systems and mechanics, which of course means theres plenty of finetuning and minmaxing that you can continue doing once the main story is finished. Maxing out all Mastery trees across both characters is an enjoyable (and the most obvious) way to do that, especially with a postgame Knowledge tree with its own passive rewards also available deeper into the game.CONTRACTSContracts are pure open world junk food in the way that you expect to see in such games more often than not, but Shadowscore gameplay strengths mean youre likely to have fun even with contracts. Picked up at safehouses (or kukurega) scattered throughout the map, contracts give out valuable rewards in the form of loot, money, gear, or what have you, so if youre looking for something to do, contracts are almost always within grasp.RECRUIT AND TRAIN ALL COMPANIONSAssassins Creed Shadowshas a handful of companions that it allows you to recruit as allies that you can then summon to aid you during stealth or combat, but unless youre going looking for them, youre not going to recruit every single one by the time the story comes to a close. With the roster of allies being partially optional and, as such, missable, if youhavemissed any, wed recommend nabbing them after the credits have rolled, and then making use of your Hideouts dojo to train them all as much as they can be trained. Oh, and speaking of the HideoutCONTINUE CUSTOMIZING THE HIDEOUTIt can be easy to miss ignore, with all the other things Assassins Creed Shadows throws at the player, but theres a whole customizable Hideout available as a hub in the game. In fact, a lot of the rewards you get over the course of the game is specifically for decorating said hideout. Surely, during the course of your playthrough, you may be far too focused on actually being assassins to bother with that, but once the story is done, theres a whole cornucopia of content to sink teeth into. You can build buildings, upgrade them, decorate them, you can change the layout of the hideout- you can essentially turn it into a fully planned little customized community for you and your league of assassins. Animal Crossing in our Assassins Creed? Weird, but yes please.KILL ALL REMAINING TARGETSLike its predecessors, Shadows gives players a vast amount of optional targets to identify, seek out, and then eliminate even outside of its main story. While you will definitely be working through at least some of the assassination missions on your Objectives board as you work through the critical path, there is a big fraction of these targets that populate the map and have nothing to do with Naoe and Yasukes overarching quest at all. Once you are done with said quest, taking down these corrupt criminals who are causing so much misery for Japan and its people is definitely something that can keep you busy for hours. And if you are a fan of the combat or the stealth or the scoping and scouting mechanics this game has, then these targets are an excellent way to keep the game going for you long after you are ostensibly done with it.

  • BougeRVs telescopic lantern is ridiculously versatile
    www.theverge.com
Its sold as an outdoor camplight, but BougeRVs very bright LED lantern is really a multifunctional work lamp for any place that needs an extra dose of lighting. Its rechargeable and compact enough to serve as a long-lasting flashlight with three swiveling LED panels that can direct 3000 lumens onto your table, campsite, workspace, or engine block from a height of more than five feet thanks to its telescoping aluminum pole.Ive found it impressively versatile and useful over the last week of testing at home, at the beach, or tooling around in my camper van. It provides warm or cold light exactly where I need it, with three levels of brightness ranging from dim to supernova. At $109.99, the BougeRV Outdoor Portable Telescopic Camping Lantern is also more capable than many of its more expensive competitors. Theres a lot to like here.8Verge Score$110The GoodCompact yet very tallGood battery lifeVery brightVery adaptableThe BadWill it survive multiple falls? No magnetic base$110 at BougeRVHow we rate and review productsAt the heart of this lantern is a 57.7Wh battery that can power the lamp on its lowest setting for up to 60 hours, or about three hours when all three LED strips are set to max brightness. You can power it off USB-C from a separate external battery or wall jack if you need more time. Its slim enough to carry in the water bottle pocket of a backpack, but its 2.3-pound (1kg) weight is a bit much for most gram-counting adventurers. When fully extended those three LED light bars can illuminate a fairly large area. Photo by Thomas Ricker / The VergeA fourth light on top makes this a decently bright, but bulky, flashlight. Photo by Thomas Ricker / The VergeA hook on the bottom lets you hang it anywhere and direct the light in three locations. Photo by Thomas Ricker / The VergeThe three light panels can be extended and turned to face the same direction to place 3000 lumens on the end of a five-foot pole. Photo by Thomas Ricker / The VergeThe lantern is built around the number three. There are three retractable legs that can be secured with three included pegs to serve as a sturdy base for the three LED panels raised up to 64.57 inches (164 cm) off the ground. You can independently turn on one, two, or three of the LED panels set to three intensifying brightness levels via the cluster of three buttons on the top of the unit. There is, however, just one lamp for the flashlight, one hook on the bottom, and one slider switch to prevent the light from accidentally turning on. Theres also one USB-C jack that both charges the lantern in about four hours and charges your gadgets at up to 22.5 watts. At first, the articulating segments that rotate, fold, and slide can be a bit much. But I soon mastered the buttons and movements needed to retract and expand the lantern into the illuminated origami of my choosing. In general, the aluminum and plastic assembly feels robust enough, but I wonder how those extended light arms will hold up after a few falls, especially when the aluminum pole is fully extended. It is IP54 rated so it should prove immune to rain showers and dust.1/14The stand, collapsable aluminum pole, and three LED arms expanded to light the interior of my blacked-out van.The only thing I miss on the BougeRV lantern is a magnetic base a useful feature on the Evo Lantern from Flextail. Other than that, the BougeRV lantern beats the 500 lumen Flextail in almost every way, despite costing $40 less and being roughly the same size.I didnt expect to like the BougeRV Outdoor Portable Telescopic Camping Lantern this much. But its so adaptable, useful, and reasonably priced that I just cant help myself.Photography by Thomas Ricker / The VergeSee More:

  • Empowering Time Series AI: How Salesforce is Leveraging Synthetic Data to Enhance Foundation Models
    www.marktechpost.com
Time series analysis faces significant hurdles in data availability, quality, and diversity, critical factors in developing effective foundation models. Real-world datasets often fall short due to regulatory limitations, inherent biases, poor quality, and limited paired textual annotations, making it difficult to create robust, generalizable Time Series Foundation Models (TSFMs) and Large Language Model-based Time Series Models (TSLLMs). This scarcity impacts tasks such as forecasting, classification, anomaly detection, reasoning, and captioning, limiting the full potential of current advancements in artificial intelligence.Salesforce AI Research has addressed these challenges by proposing a comprehensive approach to leveraging synthetic data for enhancing TSFMs and TSLLMs. Their recent study, Empowering Time Series Analysis with Synthetic Data, presents a novel strategy of using synthetic data to improve model training, evaluation, and fine-tuning, focusing on mitigating biases, increasing dataset diversity, and enriching contextual information. By developing innovative data-generation frameworks and incorporating synthetic datasets, Salesforce AI aims to advance the practical application of TSFMs and TSLLMs, especially in sensitive domains like healthcare and finance, where data sharing is heavily regulated. The technical cornerstone of Salesforce AI Researchs methodology involves various synthetic data generation approaches, each addressing specific aspects of time series dynamics, such as trends, seasonal patterns, and noise characteristics. For instance, the ForecastPFN method combines linear-exponential trends and periodic seasonalities with Weibull-distributed noise, effectively simulating realistic yet diverse scenarios. Similarly, TimesFM integrates piecewise linear trends and autoregressive moving average (ARMA) models with periodic patterns. Another innovative technique, KernelSynth by Chronos, employs Gaussian Processes (GPs) combined with linear, periodic, and radial basis function (RBF) kernels to generate rich synthetic datasets. These methods enable a controlled yet varied synthetic data creation that helps in capturing a comprehensive range of realistic time series behaviors. The Salesforce teams findings highlight substantial benefits derived from synthetic data in multiple stages of model development. In pretraining, synthetic datasets provided clear performance enhancements, notably demonstrated in models like ForecastPFN, Mamba4Cast, and TimesFM. For example, ForecastPFN pretrained entirely on synthetic data showed significant improvements in zero-shot forecasting scenarios, while Chronos found optimal performance gains by mixing around 10% synthetic data with real-world datasets, beyond which additional synthetic data could potentially degrade performance due to less diverse representations. Additionally, synthetic data also played a crucial role in evaluation, allowing researchers to precisely assess the models capabilities, understanding internal representations, and identifying gaps in the learned patterns. Moment utilized synthetically generated sinusoidal waves to evaluate internal embeddings and model sensitivity to variations in time series characteristics, demonstrating its effectiveness in capturing subtle trends and frequencies. The paper also addresses current limitations in synthetic data usage, identifying areas for future improvement. One critical gap is the absence of systematic integration methods for synthetic datasets, suggesting the need for structured frameworks to identify and fill missing real-world data patterns strategically. Another limitation noted is the dominance of statistical methods, prompting a call for exploring data-driven generative techniques, like diffusion models, to enhance realism. Salesforce researchers further emphasize untapped potential in leveraging synthetic data during fine-tuning phases to address specific domain gaps or model weaknesses more efficiently and adaptively. In conclusion, Salesforce AI Research demonstrates that synthetic data offers a powerful toolset for overcoming data-related challenges in time series analysis. By systematically integrating high-quality synthetic datasets into various stages of model development, TSFMs and TSLLMs can achieve enhanced generalization, reduced biases, and improved performance across diverse analytical tasks. Despite existing limitations, such as ensuring realism and alignment, the proactive advancement and exploration of synthetic data generation methodologies indicate significant potential. Future research, as suggested by Salesforce, should focus on improving data realism, systematically addressing data gaps, and exploiting iterative, human-in-the-loop synthetic data generation processes. These advancements could dramatically expand the applicability and reliability of time series models, laying a solid foundation for future innovations in artificial intelligence.Check outthe Paper. All credit for this research goes to the researchers of this project. www.dailystar.co.uk
Mario Kart 9 (or whatever it ends up being called) is the first game revealed for the Nintendo Switch 2 here's all we know about the upcoming racer which could be a system-sellerTech06:00, 29 Mar 2025Mario Kart is back for the first time in yearsNintendo has taken the surprising decision to show the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware in January, before treating us to a full reveal on April 2 with preorders expected to follow immediately after. That means we'll know a lot more about the new console in just a few days, but it did give us a glimpse at a new Mario Kart title seemingly arriving with the console.Article continues belowIt doesn't give us a great deal to go on so far, but we've been combing over the few seconds of footage we have so far to put together all we know about a potential release date, character lineup, and more. Start your engines here we go!As you can see in the trailer above, there's a smidge of Mario Kart 9 in there, seemingly confirming that this is a new instalment and not some kind of additional DLC for Mario Kart 8: Deluxe.Given the fact that game remains the best-selling Switch 1 game of all time as of last year (even ahead of Zelda and Animal Crossing), it makes sense why Nintendo would lead with it here but what else does the trailer show? The game is shown in the Switch 2 reveal, but not for longWe see a desert location, and some have speculated there could be some kind of open-world format given the racers tend to leave the track. The track is the Mario Bros. Circuit, and features the following characters so you can probably take them as confirmed:MarioLuigiToadDonkey KongPeachDaisyRosalinaYoshiThere's some variety in the vehicles, too, suggesting the customisable karts and bikes from Mario Kart 8 will return.Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a big seller on Switch(Image: Nintendo)In all honesty, it's hard to say. Nintendo likes to mix up its naming conventions, but Mario Kart has stuck relatively closely to numbered entries since 2011's Mario Kart 7.Whatever Mario Kart 9 does end up being called, it'll be the first mainline game in the series since 2014. Mario Kart 8 debuted on Wii U, before the port (Deluxe) was outrageously successful on Switch. In the years since, Mario Kart Tour was a mobile spinoff, while Home Circuit was a sort of "toys to life" experiment. It seems highly likely that the new Mario Kart will end up as a Switch 2 launch title, and as a result we'll know for sure on April 2.As things stand, all signs are pointing to June so we could be in for a kart-filled summer if that's true.Article continues belowFor more on Mario Kart, be sure to check out this slick new LEGO set.For the latest breaking news and stories from across the globe from the Daily Star, sign up for our newsletters.
