  • RuneScape: Dragonwilds Announced as Jagex's New Take on the Open World Survival Genre
    www.ign.com
Today, Jagex has announced that it's bringing the world of RuneScape into a new genre: survival. The developer revealed RuneScape: Dragonwilds, a cooperative open world survival game coming to early access this spring.PlayDragonwilds takes place in Ashenfall, a new continent within the RuneScape universe, where one to four players can work together to learn new skills, build camps, grow stronger, and survive against powerful enemies, including lots and lots of dragons. Ashenfall has two regions, with five unique biomes, and the potential for more to be added later post-launch. Though Ashenfall is not the same continent most of RuneScape proper takes place on, RuneScape fans will find a lot of familiarity in the world, including some locations that may resemble familiar places from RuneScape itself, like a wizard's tower, or a certain castle...RuneScape: Dragonwilds First Look Screenshots and ArtMonsters may also look familiar, but come with a twist. While you'll still see rats, dragons, trolls, cows, and other creatures you'll recall from RuneScape, Ashenfall's wild magic has warped these creatures into strange, nature-fied versions of themselves with new appearances and fusions with plants, thorns, and other wild bits.PlayCore to survival in Dragonwilds is development of skills, and yes, they include classic RuneScape activities like cooking and woodcutting. These skills allow you to interact with the world in various ways - when I saw a few clips of the game at the Game Developers' Conference earlier this month, I was shown clips of a player using wind runes to gain the ability to glide through the air across distances. Even more nostalgic was a woodcutting skill that allows players to line up a row of trees and throw a spectral axe to chop them all down at once. It's a move I was told was referred to as "ax-tral projection." RuneScape: Dragonwilds is entering early access on PC sometime this spring, with hopes for a wider launch (including console) sometime in 2026. Jagex will host a deep-dive reveal of the game on Twitch on April 15 at 9:00 AM PT.Rebekah Valentine is a senior reporter for IGN. You can find her posting on BlueSky @duckvalentine.bsky.social. • This Famous NYC Show House Is Home to the Most ENCHANTING Secret GardenSee Inside
    www.housebeautiful.com
As soon as our client saw the space, she knew this was to be her home, says Francis Nicdao, principal designer and chief creative officer of the luxury interior design firm Pembrooke & Ives , describing his clients historic 1920s townhouse. The rare double-wide building was, at the time, the site of the 47th Annual Kips Bay Decorator Show House, located on the Upper East Side of New York City. Nicdaos clients attended the legendary design event and immediately bought the entire building, putting a yearlong search for the perfect home to bed and starting up a gut renovation just as the Covid-19 pandemic began.Nicdao worked closely with Stephanie Sarkies, the Pembrooke & Ivess managing director of decorating, to create a space where their clients could display their vast, museum-quality collection of art and antiques that didnt feel stuffy or untouchable. It needed to be a family home but with public spaces glamorous enough for entertaining, Sarkies says. While she describes the experience as quite terrifying, thanks to the pandemic of it all, the end result is contemporary and clean with notes of traditional detailing that respect the buildings provenance and keeps its character intact.FAST FACTSDESIGNER: Francis Nicdao and Stephanie Sarkies of Pembrooke & IvesLOCATION: New York CityTHE SPACE: A 1920s townhouse that served as the 47th Kips Bay Decorators Show HouseThe home is undoubtedly elegant but doesnt take itself too seriously.Related StoriesENTRYWAYCheckerboard marble flooring makes quite the first impression.Genevieve GarruppoTable: Michael Coffey from Maison Gerard. Stools: Haas Brothers.Though the clients had lived in apartments for many years, the transition to living vertically was something their family had to get used to. The spectacular spiral staircase connects five of the six levels of the home to create a dramatic focal point on each floor, Nicdao says. It was important to think about room adjacencies and the flow of spaces to ensure it was comfortable and suitable for this new way of living. Since the home is twice as wide as a typical Upper East Side townhouse, the designers wanted this space to feel grand and impactful. So they leaned into its extra-large size, filling it with a beautiful collection of collectible design and art, Nicdao says.BREAKFAST & FAMILY ROOMAlso known as the hub of the home. They chose easily cleanable surfaces and designated ample counter space for prep work and dining. The blue island and barstools tie this space together with the adjacent breakfast room to create a cohesive experience, he adds. In terms of layout, the kitchen was the room with the least amount of intervention from the team.WINE CELLAR & WET BARThis wet bar is every hosts dream.Genevieve GarruppoGenevieve GarruppoJust because a room is on a basement level, it doesnt have to be drab! Sarkies says of the wine cellar. The team used specialty lighting to illuminate this custom wine display. The wet bar is in the dining room on the first level, which is designed to turn into a full-floor entertaining space, Nicdao adds. With blue high-gloss paint and a mirrored backsplash, this custom built-in elevates the dining area. PRIMARY SUITEPink details add a feminine touch. Genevieve GarruppoPendant lights: custom, Erwan Boulloud. Bed frame: custom. Bedside table: Rune. • Scientists Puzzled When Mars Rover Finds Egg-Like Rock
    futurism.com
Who said there's an egg crisis?NASA's Perseverance Rover has stumbled across an extremely strange rock that's "astonished" scientists while exploring the rim of the Jezero crater on Mars.Nicknamed "St. Pauls Bay," the rock is made up of hundreds of densely packed, millimeter-sized dark spheres not unlike an insect's slimy egg cluster. These "spherules," as they're known, are somewhat heterogeneous. As seen in a closeup taken with Perseverance's SuperCam Remote Micro Imager, some of them appear more elliptical while others are more angular. Stranger still, some spherules have tiny pinholes through their centers. In short, they're nothing like the rocks that make up the surrounding landscape, which are lighter and flatter.NASA scientists have encountered puzzling spherules in the past. As far back as 2004, the Mars Opportunity rover, during its expedition in the Meridiani Planum, spotted what's come to be known as "Martian Blueberries" loose, smoothly surfaced pebbles, each roughly an inch across. And last year, Perseverance found light-colored sedimentary rocks with an uneven "popcorn-like" texture. In keeping with the appetizing analogues, these latest instances of spherules, found on a slope of the Jezero's crater's western rim called Witch Hazel Hill, are more like geological Dippin' Dots.Whereas previous spherules were thought to be concretions the result of groundwater flowing through sediment and depositing minerals that clump around small nuclei of rocks, forming a larger ovoid over time it's not clear what formed St. Pauls Bay.Some spherules form when droplets of molten rock spewed in a volcanic eruption rapidly cool. Mars, home to the largest volcano in the solar system, has a long history of volcanism, so this could be the case. But spherules can also form by rocks that are vaporized in a meteorite strike, which condense into an ovoid in the aftermath; Mars is routinely bombarded by space rocks.Right now, it's impossible to determine St. Pauls Bay's origins because it's a float rock, a type of loose rock that's not part of the surrounding bedrock and originated from somewhere else. The search, however, is far from over."The team are now working to link the spherule-rich texture observed at St. Pauls Bay to the wider stratigraphy at Witch Hazel Hill, and initial observations have provided tantalizing indications that it could be linked to one of the dark-toned layers identified by the team from orbit," Alex Jones, a Mars researcher at Imperial College London, wrote in a NASA blog. "Placing these features in geologic context will be critical for understanding their origin, and determining their significance for the geological history of the Jezero crater rim and beyond!"Share This Article

  • Russian Hackers Exploit CVE-2025-26633 via MSC EvilTwin to Deploy SilentPrism and DarkWisp
    thehackernews.com
Mar 31, 2025Ravie LakshmananMalware / Zero-DayThe threat actors behind the zero-day exploitation of a recently-patched security vulnerability in Microsoft Windows have been found to deliver two new backdoors called SilentPrism and DarkWisp. The activity has been attributed to a suspected Russian hacking group called Water Gamayun, which is also known as EncryptHub and LARVA-208."The threat actor deploys payloads primarily by means of malicious provisioning packages, signed .msi files, and Windows MSC files, using techniques like the IntelliJ runnerw.exe for command execution," Trend Micro researchers Aliakbar Zahravi and Ahmed Mohamed Ibrahim said in a follow-up analysis published last week.Water Gamayun has been linked to the active exploitation of CVE-2025-26633 (aka MSC EvilTwin), a vulnerability in the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) framework, to execute malware by means of a rogue Microsoft Console (.msc) file. The attack chains involve the use of provisioning packages (.ppkg), signed Microsoft Windows Installer files (.msi), and .msc files to deliver information stealers and backdoors that are capable of persistence and data theft. EncryptHub gained attention towards the end of June 2024, after having used a GitHub repository named "encrypthub" to push various kinds of malware families, including stealers, miners, and ransomware, via a fake WinRAR website. The threat actors have since transitioned to their infrastructure for both staging and command-and-control (C&C) purposes. The .msi installers used in the attacks masquerade as legitimate messaging and meeting software such as DingTalk, QQTalk, and VooV Meeting. They are designed to execute a PowerShell downloader, which is then used to fetch and run the next-stage payload on a compromised host. One such malware is a PowerShell implant dubbed SilentPrism that can set up persistence, execute multiple shell commands simultaneously, and maintain remote control, while also incorporating anti-analysis techniques to evade detection. Another PowerShell backdoor of note is DarkWisp, which enables system reconnaissance, exfiltration of sensitive data, and persistence. "Once the malware exfiltrates reconnaissance and system information to the C&C server, it enters a continuous loop waiting for commands," the researchers said. "The malware accepts commands through a TCP connection on port 8080, where commands arrive in the format COMMAND|<base64_encoded_command>.""The main communication loop ensures continuous interaction with the server, handling commands, maintaining connectivity, and securely transmitting results."The third payload dropped in the attacks is the MSC EvilTwin loader that weaponizes CVE-2025-26633 to execute a malicious .msc file, ultimately leading to the deployment of the Rhadamanthys Stealer. The loader is also designed to perform a cleanup of the system to avoid leaving a forensic trail.Rhadamanthys is far from the only stealer in Water Gamayun's arsenal, for it has been observed delivering another commodity stealer called StealC, as well as three custom PowerShell variants referred to as EncryptHub Stealer variant A, variant B, and variant C.The bespoke stealer is fully-featured malware that can collect extensive system information, including details about antivirus software, installed software, network adapters, and running applications. It also extracts Wi-Fi passwords, Windows product keys, clipboard history, browser credentials, and session data from various apps related to messaging, VPN, FTP, and password management.Furthermore, it specifically singles out files matching certain keywords and extensions, indicating a focus on gathering recovery phrases associated with cryptocurrency wallets."These variants exhibit similar functionalities and capabilities, with only minor modifications distinguishing them," the researchers noted. "All EncryptHub variants covered in this research are modified versions of the open-source Kematian Stealer."One iteration of EncryptHub Stealer is noteworthy for the use of a new living-off-the-land binary (LOLBin) technique in which the IntelliJ process launcher "runnerw.exe" is used to proxy the execution of a remote PowerShell script on an infected system. The stealer artifacts, distributed through malicious MSI packages or binary malware droppers, have also been found to propagate other malware families like Lumma Stealer, Amadey, and clippers.Further analysis of the threat actor's C&C infrastructure ("82.115.223[.]182") has revealed the use of other PowerShell scripts to download and execute AnyDesk software for remote access and the ability of the operators to send Base64-encoded remote commands to the victim machine."Water Gamayun's use of various delivery methods and techniques in its campaign, such as provisioning malicious payloads through signed Microsoft Installer files and leveraging LOLBins, highlights their adaptability in compromising victims' systems and data," Trend Micro said."Their intricately designed payloads and C&C infrastructure enable the threat actor to maintain persistence, dynamically control infected systems, and obfuscate their activities."Found this article interesting?
