Some Macy's executives have to pay back bonuses as a result of an accounting scandal.Macy's overstated one of its earnings metrics in 2023, leading to the inflated bonuses. The executives owe Macy's over $600,000 as a result, the retailer said.Macy's executives will have to pay back hundreds of thousands of dollars in bonus payments as a result of an accounting scandal, the department store firm said on Tuesday. The retailer overstated one of its earnings measures by $81 million in 2023, the company said in a filing with the SEC. That metric influenced how much Macy's executives were paid in bonuses the following year.As a result, some execs will have to pay back a cumulative $609,613 in cash bonuses that the company awarded them through the end of 2024, according to the filing. The company has already reclaimed some of the bonus payments and had to collect the remaining $352,093 as of April 1, the filing said. Macy's "will seek to recover the remaining amount of the erroneously awarded compensation" from the executives during the company's 2025 fiscal year, the company said in the SEC filing.A Macy's spokesperson declined to comment in response to questions from Business Insider, including which executives had to pay back bonuses.Last fall, Macy's delayed its third-quarter earnings report after it said that an employee hid more than $150 million in expenses. The company said at the time that one employee who oversaw expenses for small package delivery was responsible for the incorrect figures.Accounting experts told BI then that the problem likely wasn't just bad accounting but the failure of multiple internal controls at Macy's.In December, Macy's corrected some of its past financial figures, according to a filing. The department store chain said that its net income for 2023 was 57% lower than it initially reported, for example.Recommended video

"The White Lotus" pays all series regulars equally, the show's producer told The Hollywood Reporter. The actors make about $40,000 per episode, and Bernad said the salary is "not negotiable."Despite fixed salaries, the show's prestige still attracts actors. Each season of HBO's Emmy-winning series "The White Lotus" features a mix of veteran actors and rising talents, but each series regular walks away with an equal paycheck."Everyone is treated the same on 'The White Lotus,'" producer David Bernad said in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday. "They get paid the same, and we do alphabetical billing, so you're getting people who want to do the project for the right reasons, not to quote 'The Bachelor.'"The system has been in place since the show's first season, which had a tight budget by necessity: "The White Lotus" was developed during the pandemic as a show that could film in one fixed location in season one's case, the Four Seasons Maui at Wailea to adhere to COVID protocols.Since premiering in summer 2021, "The White Lotus" has established itself as one of HBO's flagship shows. Fabio Lovino/HBO THR reported that the actors make about $40,000 per episode, and Bernad and casting director Meredith Tucker said that having a fixed, equal salary for the series regulars levels the playing field."It makes it so much easier," Tucker said. Our series regulars are pretty much doing this for scale.""And it's not negotiable," Bernad added. While that might be a deterrent for some, the high-profile nature of the show all but guarantees that actors will get a boost in recognition if they're cast. For those who say yes, that's more than enough."I think people love this show so much that they're willing to audition," Tucker said.Recommended video

  • Trumps harshest agenda item is also his most popular
    www.vox.com
Donald Trumps popularity is slipping. His honeymoon is over, views of the economy and his stewardship of it are souring, and while inflation and prices remain the publics top priority, they see his administration as focusing on other things.Yet the area where they think Trump is most focusing his attention is also the one where hes most popular: immigration. Its what the public thinks hes handling best, and its the issue buoying his overall approval rating right now.A couple recent national polls show how resilient this dynamic is. Take the latest March CBS News/YouGov poll. It finds that an outright majority 53 percent of the American public approves of Trumps handling of immigration. They approve of his mass deportation pledge, and the numbers remain largely unchanged since last month. That majority support on immigration stands in contrast to his other ratings in that poll. Some 48 percent of Americans approve of his handling of the economy, with 52 percent disapproving in late March. Thats down from 51 percent approval a month ago. And when it comes to inflation, specifically, just 44 percent approve, down from 46 percent last month. Those sharper marks on immigration come not only despite questions about the legality of the administrations methods, but also as news organizations reveal embarrassing and concerning revelations about who has been targeted for deportations and detentions. While this news coverage grows, and Trumps overall favorability continues to slip, its worth asking why his immigration agenda remains popular and just what might turn it negative. As the administration veers into a more authoritarian direction in its treatment of immigrants, these shifts will be crucial to track, particularly for those hoping to organize political pressure and public support. What recent polls tell usThe late March CBS News/YouGov poll of American adults conducted late last week shows basically no change from the last CBS/YouGov poll from late February. Some 53 percent of Americans approve of Trumps immigration handling in March, while 54 percent approved in February. The same when asking about the Trump administrations program to deport immigrants illegally. Among all adults, 58 percent approve essentially mirroring findings in February, when 59 percent of respondents approved. The second national survey that shows Trumps resilient immigration support is a AP-NORC poll from March. The public, this poll suggests, is split evenly: 49 percent approve of Trumps immigration approach, while 50 percent disapprove. Again, views of his handling of other issues are much more negative, but even one in five Democrats approve Trumps immigration approach, per the surveys results. The findings are revelatory, given the poll generally finds more negative views of Trump compared to other March polls conducted by other firms. Its an outlier, for example, in showing a double-digit net-negative rating for Trumps overall favorability: 56 percent disapproving and 42 percent approving. For now, theres not a clear reason for this sustained support. It might be a sign of Trumps effective messaging about the issue. From the start, this administration has embarked on a polished and digital-savvy media and advertising tour to frame their deportation efforts as a way to target immigrants who have committed crimes which happens to be the specific condition that is most popular when surveys offer respondents a variety of options for deportation policy. The administration has recorded and released social media videos, traditional TV advertising, and clips of Homeland Security secretary Kristi Noem tagging along with ICE agents, meeting with border agents at the southern border, and even speaking from the prison in El Salvador many deportees are being sent.In turn, this (essentially) campaigning on immigration may be amplifying the effects of polarization, since its hardcore conservatives and Republicans who care the most about immigration (both in the lead-up to the 2024 election and since Trumps inauguration). And these numbers might also just represent a deeper, wider reality for America. The American polity has generally polarized against immigration, and would prefer to see rates of immigration decline. Thats been true since the post-pandemic era spike in southern border crossings and asylum claims, and was a major 2024 campaign issue that Trump largely sees as responsible for his own election.Of course, there may also be survey-design limitations: These polls capture the vaguer idea of restrictive immigration policy that Trump came to represent, as opposed to the publics views on specific policies or scenarios. Public opinion tends to vary tremendously once you ask more specific questions about who might be targeted for deportation, how widespread those enforcement actions should be, and whether there should be conditions or more leniency given to some kinds of undocumented immigrants. And for now, its not clear yet what impact news coverage and the governments response to the most recent specific high-profile deportations will have.As news coverage, political debate, and outcry grow, (like over the role of foreign prisons and Guantnamo Bay in holding immigrants, and stories of specific, controversial cases), the public may end up polarizing against Trump. Thats what happened during late 2017 and 2018 the peak of Trump 1.0s anti-immigrant, kids-in-cages policies. It was around that time that public support for immigration of all kinds began to spike, and openness to more migration grew.Still, 2017 this is not. The public has not been this negative on immigration since the post-9/11 years, per Gallup tracking data. And Trump, again, remains more popular now than he was at this point in his first term, meaning he has room to spend political capital and advance his agenda while taking a hit in public opinion. In other words, eight years ago Trump saw how much he could get done with immigration while most of the public opposed him. This year, hes pushing to do even more, with a higher ceiling for what the public will tolerate.See More:

  • Trump to roll out sweeping tariffs. Here’s what to know.
    www.vox.com
President Donald Trump is set to unveil the details of his tariff plans at 4 pm ET on Wednesday, April 2. He has vowed to impose reciprocal tariffs on all nations that he claims disadvantage American products through trade, tax, or regulatory policy.Trump has already imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum made outside the US, all products made in Canada or Mexico, all Chinese goods, and all foreign-made cars, among other things, claiming these moves will strengthen the economy long-term while downplaying concern theyll lead to a recession. The threat of tariffs have led to massive economic uncertainty, with Trumps on-again, off-again declarations tanking stock markets and souring consumer sentiment, though some longtime critics of globalization appear optimistic. Meanwhile, many Americans are worried and confused tariffs havent been as significant to the US economy in nearly a century and theyre understandably unsure about what tariffs are, how theyll affect their wallets, why governments would implement them, and whether the presidents policy will work on its own terms.Well help you make sense of this moment. While Switch 2 remains technically behind the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, Nintendo has long competed on innovation and game quality rather than specifications. With a broader games lineup than the original machine, more advanced visuals and a more intuitive design for its Joy-Con controllers, this was a strong introduction.Youll have to wait just a little bit longer for launch, said Switch 2 design director Takuhiro Dohta at the close of the live stream. For avid Nintendo fans that will feel like an eternity.

  • Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom prequel for Switch 2 is not what you think
    metro.co.uk
To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a webbrowser thatsupports HTML5videoUp NextNintendos first Legend Of Zelda game for Nintendo Switch 2 is another Zelda centric spin-off set before the events of Tears Of The Kingdom. It was extremely unlikely that todays Nintendo Direct for the Nintendo Switch 2 would feature the successor to The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom considering that game only came out in 2023.However, Nintendo still had something for Zelda fans to chew on, especially ones who arent quite ready to say goodbye to this iteration of Hyrule just yet.Announced exclusively for Switch 2, Tears Of The Kingdom is getting a whole prequel game and, much like Echoes Of Wisdom, it looks like itll put Zelda in the starring role though its probably not what youd expect.Rather than a traditional adventure game, the prequel is also doubling as a follow-up to Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity. So, that makes it another Musou spin-off in the same vein as the Dynasty Warriors games.Titled Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment, what little gameplay shown in the trailer promises a far smoother experience than the last game, which suffered from an inconsistent frame rate. The brief trailer also confirms that it is set during the events of the Imprisoning War, which took place thousands of years before Tears Of The Kingdom. This means Link himself could be entirely absent from the game unless some more timey-wimey shenanigans take place. As for who is playable, the trailer only confirms Zelda, Rauru, and Minoru so far, though its safe to assume that Raurus champions will be too. Maybe also Ganondorf as an unlockable character. Will Link be entirely absent in this game? (YouTube)When does Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment release?Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment is currently scheduled for this winter. Although this could mean it wont drop until early 2026, Nintendo likely wants to try and have it available for the Christmas period.More TrendingWhatever the case, this makes the new Hyrule Warriors one of the Switch 2s first exclusives from Nintendo alongside Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza.Nintendo hasnt provided pricing details for it, but if Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananzas prices are anything to go by, it wont be cheap. The new Mario Kart will cost 74.99 physically and 66.99 digitally, while the Donkey Kong game is 66.99 physically and 58.99 digitally. This wasnt the only Zelda related announcement Nintendo had for the Switch 2. Both Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom will see dedicated re-releases alongside the Switch 2 when it launches in June, allowing for vastly improved visuals. If you already own either game, you will need to pay an unspecified price to upgrade to the Switch 2 versions or subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack to access them. The Switch 2 edition will offer mouse controls using the Joy-Cons and improved graphics modes. The Switch 2 versions quality mode will support 4K and 60fps with HDR in docked mode, and 1080p and 60fps with HDR in handheld mode. In performance mode, it will support 1080p and 120fps while docked and 720p and 120fps in handheld mode.No specific release date was announced for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond but it is slated for 2025, so it will probably launch sometime after the Switch 2 launch on June 5.The upcoming Pokmon Legends: Z-A, which is set to launch late 2025, will also be a cross-gen title on Switch 2, with similar upgrades to frame rate and resolution on the new system. A select number of already-released Switch games will also receive enhanced upgrades via a Switch 2 Edition, which will be available to purchase physically or digitally. Those who have already purchased the original Switch versions, however, can purchase an upgrade pack to receive extra visual benefits, or in the case of Super Mario Party Jamboree, extra gameplay functionality in the form of camera support and new mini-games. The latter was recently remastered on the Nintendo Switch, to considerable acclaim. There have been other 3D entries outside the Prime series, notably Metroid: Other M, but Nintendo has mostly focused on 2D side-scrolling entries in recent years, including Metroid: Samus Returns on the Nintendo 3DS and the highly successful Metroid Dread. All the games with upgrades on Switch 2Switch 2 Edition gamesThe Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The WildThe Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The KingdomKirby And The Forgotten LandMetroid Prime 4: BeyondSuper Mario Party JamboreePokmon Legends: Z-ASwitch games with free updatesARMSCaptain Toad: Treasure TrackerSuper Mario OdysseySuper Mario 3D World + Bowsers FuryClubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide ClassicsThe Legend Of Zelda: Links AwakeningThe Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of WisdomGame Builder GarageNew Super Mario Bros. • Trump Might Actually Dump Elon After Embarrassing Defeat in Wisconsin
    gizmodo.com
By Matt Novak Published April 2, 2025 | Comments (0) | Elon Musk carrying an Air Force One stuffed toy while leaving presidential helicopter Marine One on the South Lawn of the White House on February 19, 2025 in Washington, DC. Win McNamee/Getty Images President Donald Trump may finally be getting rid of Elon Musk soon, according to a new report from Politico. And while this isnt the first time rumors like this have surfaced from the depths of the White House, theres more reason to believe the hype this time. Why? The conservative judge that Musk spent $20 million trying to get elected in Wisconsin got absolutely shellacked in his election on Tuesday. The report from Politico says Trump has been telling his inner circle, including members of the cabinet that Musk will be stepping back in the coming weeks. The billionaire oligarch is not officially part of the cabinet, though hes been taking a dominant role in cabinet meetings. Ever since Trumps inauguration on Jan. 20 (the same day as Musks infamous salutes), the Tesla CEO has been destroying the federal government with DOGE, the so-called Department of Government Efficiency, which has been illegally accessing private information and unilaterally cancelling government contracts it has no right to cancel. The Politico report suggests Trump is happy with the destruction that Musk has been able to accomplish, but hes not too thrilled with everything else that comes with an extremely wealthy man consolidating power in the richest country on the planet. Trump, as we all know, wants to always be the most powerful guy in the room. Trump insiders are frustrated with Musks unpredictability, according to Politico, which seems like a polite way of saying that hes lost his marbles. The billionaire acts erratically in public and lashes out at perceived enemies while spreading conspiracy theories about the forces working against him. As just one ironic example, Musk held an event in Green Bay, Wisconsin, on Sunday where he was giving out $1 million checks in an effort to buy votes for the election on Tuesday. When some protesters started shouting, Musk told them to say hi to George, a reference to George Soros, who he accuses of buying elections. And its that defeat in Tuesdays election that may spell the end of Musks time in government. Or, at the very least, a more diminished role. Musk had supported Judge Brad Schimel, who had been running against Judge Susan Crawford. Musk poured millions into the race, but in the end, Crawford won with 55% of the vote, while Schimel managed to get just 45%, according to the Associated Press.Musk is classified as a special government employee, a designation that only allows a private citizen to serve for 130 days without having to go through the normal vetting processes required of cabinet members. If Musk was required to adhere to the same ethics and conflict-of-interest rules as everyone else in government, theres virtually no way he wouldve taken the job. The billionaire has lucrative contracts with the federal government through his companies like SpaceX, and the fact that hes now choosing which contracts should live and die is a blatantly obvious conflict of interestto say nothing of the intelligence value hes likely derived from rooting around in government computers that hold data on competitors. As with all of these reports about Trump and Musks relationship, its important to take them with a grain of salt. Politico quotes an anonymous White House official who said that anyone who thinks Musk will disappear completely is fooling themselves. Weve been hearing since even before the election that perhaps Trump would ditch Musk, but that obviously hasnt happened yet. As Gizmodo has argued before, the two men need each other to accomplish their fascist goals. But the main reason Trump has tolerated Musks presence is that he can deliver votes, not just in the 2024 presidential election, but in smaller ways.Musk, for instance, bought ads in Iowa to pressure Sen. Joni Ernst when it looked like she might not support Pete Hegseth for Defense Secretary. Ernst came around, thanks to Musk, and even though Vice President JD Vance had to cast the tie-breaking vote in the Senate, Hegseth was confirmed. If Musk cant deliver votes anymore, even in smaller judicial races like the one in Wisconsin yesterday, hes outlived his usefulness to Trump. Trump may be casting his lustful, oligarchic eyes elsewhere these days, as Mark Zuckerberg was spotted walking into the White House on Wednesday, according to CNN. Andrew Harnik/Getty Images When Musk was asked last week about whether he would step aside after 130 days, the billionaire didnt actually give a definitive answer to the question. I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by $1 trillion within that time frame, Musk told Bret Baier of Fox News. Youll notice that Musks statement isnt actually an admission that hed step aside. And if weve learned anything from the history of oligarchies, its that nobody in that position gives up power willingly. Heres that moment in the Fox News interview. Musk is asked if hes leaving after 130 days, as required by law. Musk replies I think we will have accomplished most of the work required to reduce the deficit by a trillion dollars within that time frame. Youll notice he never commits to leaving. [image or embed] Matt Novak (@paleofuture.bsky.social) March 28, 2025 at 3:36 PM But only time will tell whether Musk is actually kicked to the curb. Even if he left tomorrow, hes already done enormous damage to the country by destroying USAID and firing tens of thousands of people across federal agencies. The average American may not understand it yet, but Musks actions will be felt for generations to come, as the U.S. surrenders its position as a world leader. As soon as the average American does figure it out, it will be way too late to do anything about it. But Musk doesnt have to worry, hes got plenty of contracts around the world to prop up his wealth. Thats the neat thing about being the richest guy in the world. Theres no reason to have an allegiance to just one country, despite what Musk keeps saying about betting on America.Daily NewsletterYou May Also Like By Passant Rabie Published April 2, 2025 By Thomas Maxwell Published April 2, 2025 By Matt Novak Published April 1, 2025 By Passant Rabie Published April 1, 2025 By Matt Novak Published April 1, 2025 By Thomas Maxwell Published April 1, 2025

The project reconnects the campus to Groningen's historical city centre after extensive development in the northern area of the UMCG. The plot became available by removing the existing road extending from the city centre. Positioned centrally on this axis, the building serves as a recognisable landmark, reinforcing the connection between the campus and the city. Apart from the integration of patio gardens at different levels and high-quality public spaces designed by Felixx Landscape Architects, the new Education Centre links various UMCG facilities. It also enriches the northern entrance of the campus by extending the outdoor public space into the interior, enhancing the direct connection and fluid circulation throughout the buildings.Save this picture!Save this picture! At the core of Healthy Ageing is the creation of a health-promoting environment. The Education Centre's design emphasises comfort, natural light, and ventilation to support physical, mental, and social well-being. It invites students to engage with the campus beyond classes, offering various spaces for collaboration, study, and relaxation. From open group workstations to sheltered individual areas, the Centre fosters knowledge sharing among students, faculty, and visitors. Its welcoming facade and vibrant program give the campus a fresh identity.Save this picture! The architectural design features five distinct volumes. These volumes connect seamlessly to the central foyers, both horizontally and vertically, across the ground and upper floors. This arrangement promotes a cohesive flow between spaces, enhancing accessibility and interaction throughout the building. The positioning of the volumes is decided in response to the key sightlines and the desired spatial quality of the complex. The horizontal foyer itself is framed by a transparent facade facing the public square, main entrance and several green patios. The patios mark the transition to existing buildings at different levels and introduce light into the lower floors. The horizontal foyer always provides a view of the outside and the other buildings, allowing users to understand the complex naturally. It is organised within and around brick volumes -the "seminar halls"- with a food court, auditorium, lecture halls, project spaces, meeting rooms and an independent commercial area. The vertical foyer connects the "seminar halls" with the "learning tower", which houses classrooms, computer rooms and a Skills lab. A wide and comfortable staircase, combined with study spaces, works as a continuity of the public space on every floor. To promote stair usage to contribute to healthy ageing, the elevators only stop on odd-numbered floors, requiring users to walk up or down one floor. The large, deep windows characterise the tower's brickwork faade and offer a play of openings with diverse, satisfying views over the city centre. Finally, the building's pleasant and accessible green roof terrace strengthens the green heart of the campus.Save this picture!Save this picture!Save this picture! The programme has been rationally organised with enough flexibility to allow easy changes to the spatial arrangement in the future. Two of the three lecture halls consist of platforms rather than fixed seating, making different types of teaching settings possible. The tower's standardised grid with a finer grid of technical installations and a larger structural span also allows for various spatial arrangements.Save this picture!Ease of access, high comfort levels, sufficient daylight, and green views ensure a healthy and sustainable environment. Also, a range of sustainable materials with low environmental impact is utilised throughout the building's life cycle. These natural materials are chosen for their ability to change over time and age gracefully. Both the exterior and interior walls are covered in regionally sourced brickwork. The selected light sandy brick colour contributes to the creation of a warm atmosphere. The interior doors and window frames are made of massive oak, and the foyer's floors and walls are made of concrete. Brick walls combined with smooth yet tactile exposed concrete define the space and imbue it with a robust urban feel while still being a friendly interior space. With its high ceiling and roof construction semi-visible through the metal mesh, the horizontal foyer is brightened by subtle daylight penetrating through the skylights above and the facade's glazing. In contrast to the foyers, the teaching spaces are clad in wood, offering a light and natural ambience.Save this picture!"The new Anda Kerkhoven Education Centre will bring a fresh identity to this part of the campus while connecting and reinforcing the surrounding buildings, a new public space comes to life," concludes Vincent Panhuysen, founding partner of KAAN Architecten.Save this picture!Project gallerySee allShow lessAbout this officeKAAN ArchitectenOfficeMaterialBrickMaterials and TagsPublished on April 02, 2025Cite: "Education Centre University of Groningen / KAAN Architecten" 02 Apr 2025.
