WWW.GAMESINDUSTRY.BIZNintendo Switch 2 pre-orders delayed in the US over Trump's tariffsNintendo Switch 2 pre-orders delayed in the US over Trump's tariffsThe June 5 release date is unchangedImage credit: Nintendo News by Samuel Roberts Editorial Director Published on April 4, 2025 Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders will not go ahead on April 9, 2025 in the US as originally planned due to the evolving situation of US President Donald Trump's 'reciprocal' tariffs on imported goods. The console's launch date of June 5 has not changed. As confirmed by IGN, Nintendo has sent out a press statement to numerous outlets confirming the postponement. "Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions."Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged."The tariffs were announced shortly after the latest Nintendo Direct livestream wrapped up on April 2, which confirmed a US launch price of $450. Nintendo manufactures the Switch 2 in countries targeted by the tariffs, like Vietnam, which created speculation around whether the initial price factored in any potential impact.Nintendo, then, made the pricing decision before the full extent of the tariffs' impact was known.Several analysts spoke to GamesIndustry.biz prior to this latest announcement, suggesting the wider impact of tariffs on the games industry and US consumers more generally is yet to be fully understood.Pre-orders, meanwhile, are set to officially begin in Europe on April 8. We'll update you when further details are available from Nintendo.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 71 Visualizações

WWW.ELLEDECOR.COMThis Historic Midcentury Tahoe Home Brings the Outside InIts April and its still snowing in Tahoe. In other parts of the country, early spring crocus has given way to daffodils, but in this part of California, with snow piling feet high, it is unequivocally winter. And thats actually the appeal. People come to Tahoe to enjoy the abundance of weather and the snow sports it makes possible. Tucked in the Palisades is one of the first homes ever built near the famous Alpine Meadows Ski Resort, in 1964. While many of the choices made by its original architects were curiosities to the Landed Interiors & Homes crew when their clients brought it to them, at least one made a lot of sense: The high, high windows. The house is on a steep incline, says Heather Menegat, studio director of Landeds Berkeley office, who oversaw the project with Tiffany Kim. And when they plow, all the snow just tumbles down and reaches close to the tops of the window. Its wild to see. But beyond the window placement, and the houses striking midcentury modern profile, the rest needed a hard reset to become the weather- and family-ready space it is now. Purchased early in the pandemic as a vacation home, the clients knew they wanted to spend a good chunk of the year in it, says Menegat, to take advantage of the seasons. They had a vision of signing up their two daughters for ski lessons, and regularly hosting friends and family at the house. The aesthetic they were drawn to was alpine aprs, and in Tahoe, this style can make sense, but were also not in Switzerland, says Menegat. The challenge was matching the exterior to the interior. Not every house has a strong presence, says Menegat, but this one did. We wanted to make the insides feel more like they were speaking to the outsides.Yoshihiro MakinoThe hall off the main bedroom became an office with a built-in desk. The wallpaper is by Casamance. In the last few years, Landed Interiors & Homes has been a rising star in the design world for its ability to do just that: Align the clients needs and desires for the structure theyre working with in a way that feels tonally coherent. Importantly, the crew has a knack for details that make a space feel elevated while also lived in. Take for example the room designed by founding principal designer Lynn Kloythanomsup at the Brooklyn Heights, New York showhouse in 2024, which featured plaster cast wildflowers and wheatgrass motifs along the walls. In the Tahoe house, the changes were also radical. The redesign was all about reimagining the flow of the existing space and redirecting the light, while adding ski chalet flavor and paying homage to the existing architecture. To manage what you saw when you first walked into the split-level housethe tops of the kitchen cabinetsLanded added slatted wood partitions decorated with a cutout star motif, similar to something you might see in Palm Beach, says Menegat; atomic, midcentury stars that were simplified and elongated to inflect the panels with that ski language of the chalet. In the living room, a huge fireplace inset in a stone wall remained intact. Were not going to touch that, says Menegat of their thinking. Its so hard to recreate stone in a way thats already pleasing. But new floors were added in the rest of the house. So was radiant heating, and new windows. On the walls went a tiered, Swiss-inspired molding.Yoshihiro MakinoSpace carved from the garage became a mudroom with long cabinetry for ski equipment and coats. The high, high windows in the primary bedroom were challenging. So was the laundry room, which, in the original floorplan, was how you accessed both the bedroom and a bathroom. Very vacation house feeling in that way, says Menegat. As a solution, they carved out a little space from the garage for a mudroom, where cabinets are now ski lockers for equipment, and reconfigured access to the laundry room. The bathroom became an ensuite. For wall and tile color in the bathrooms, they went raspberry in one, ginger in another, and teal-moss in the main. Deep blue grasscloth runs up against burnt orange Dahlia patterned wallpaper by Casamance in the hall office. We really strove to balance some of the less saturated, more muddy colors with colors that felt vibrant and fun, says Menegat. Another big shift was the kitchen, where full-length cabinetry was replaced by lower cabinetry, which really changed how that space is activated and makes the ceilings feel taller, says Menegat. In the center of the room is a free-standing butcher block parsons table by Union Studio for March SF in white oak that is narrow enough not to be imposing but ample enough to be usable for piling food. Throughout the house are pieces whose details are intended to highlight the hands behind the craftsmanship. For example, exposed dovetail joints on cabinets inspired by the kitchen of Ren Redzepi, the chef behind Noma, that actually work triple-time to imbue the space with an eclecticism beyond midcentury. We were thinking a lot about Japanese design and tried to bring some of that language in. Theres something about that detail, says Menegat, referring to the dovetail joints, that feels at once a little Scandinavian and a little Japanese and just works to shake things up a little bit. The art, by Bay Area artists such as Serena Mitnik Miller, Drew Bennett , and Lena Wolff helps shake things up, too. Central to Landeds work is making a redone space feel lived in. As a vacation home that isnt occupied year-round it could take a long time for appliances and furniture to settle and give off the warmth of a well-loved space. We wanted it to feel a little aged, says Menegat. We often like to make spaces feel like they werent all put into place at once, adds Kloythanomsup. Case in point: the brass hood over the stove, which is gently patinated. But the real triumph, according to Menegat, is the corner in the living room where new windows were added and brought down to meet the floor. It completely changed how the space is in the little corner, says Menegat. It was a game changer for us. Looking out from this side of the house, where the hill drops away beneath an elevated foundation and deck, it's as if the windows hover above the white snow below, comfortably lofted among the trunks of the pines.0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 79 Visualizações

THENEXTWEB.COMEuropean tech warns Trump tariffs will hit both hardware and softwareEuropes tech industry is bracing for impact after the Trump administration announced sweeping tariffs yesterday. The US slapped a 20% tariff on imports from the EU twice the rate for the UK. Switzerland fared even worse, receiving a hefty 32% levy.Several European tech firms, investors, and analysts told TNW that the measures could disrupt supply chains, force pricing adjustments, and stem the flow of transatlantic VC capital plunging European tech companies big and small into uncertainty.Trumps trade tariffs will have a huge impact on the global tech landscape, forcing startups to reconsider their headquarters and assess alternative markets, said Louis Fearn, principal and sustainability lead at InMotion Ventures, the investment arm of Jaguar Land Rover.Check It OutFor companies with hardware-dependent models, the tariffs represent a major cost challenge. Miika Mkitalo, CEO of Finnish firm HappyOrNot, which makes customer feedback terminals, noted that nearly half of the companys business is across the pond. He said the tariffs might force the firm to consider initiating assembly and production in the United States.Although the tariffs only apply to physical goods, service-based startups will also feel the impact.Benjamin Avraham, founder and CEO of Swiss fintech Okoora, said there are many secondary effects that will harm the smaller startup community indirectly. These include changes in supply chains, barriers to VC investments, and increased volatility in exchange rates.Software could also suffer from additional constraints. Amanda Brock, CEO at open-source lobby group OpenUK, said that while software has long been characterised as an intangible service, it may be subject to other trade restrictions. The fallout has already begun. Trumps tariffs have sent markets into disarray and risk compounding existing tensions in global trade. Stocks have plunged around the world and countries have promised retaliatory measures. The newly announced blanket tariffs by President Trump create more uncertainty in the global tech industry, said Martin Hartley, Group CCO of international tech consultancy Emagine. These measures could make businesses in the EU avoid the US altogether to sidestep additional costs. For European startups, the tariffs may force a stark strategic choice. Trump is playing with fire, warned Matt Penneycard, partner at UK-based Ada Ventures. Startups selling to US customers now face two options: anchor in Europe and embrace its stability, or find ways to maintain access to the States by setting up operations there. He added that this moment could be an opportunity for Europe. As the US becomes a tougher place to operate, top talent may follow stability this is Europes moment to build a new Silicon Valley.European startups are the heartbeat of TNW Conference, which takes place on June 19-20 in Amsterdam. Request your EXTENDED TRIAL today and understand why Mosyle is everything you need to work with Apple. In this weeks Security Bite, Im taking it back over 20 years to the launch of Gmail in 2004because thats how long its little-known plus addressing (aliasing) feature has quietly existed. It was originally created to help with filtering and keeping inboxes tidy long before spam became what it is today. Google never really promoted it, so most people still dont realize its a thing. But over the years, its become popular among privacy-minded folks to track which online services, subscriptions, etc., are selling email addresses to other companies or leaking them. Its one of my biggest e-irritants.Allow me to set the scene: You create a new email address with a fresh and clean inbox. At first, all the emails you receive are from services you signed up for, including a couple from the email provider welcoming you to the service. A month later, you mightve opened some social media accounts, signed up for some newsletters, started searching for a new car, etc. Before you know it, youre getting hundreds of emails (aka spam) a week from unknown senders. Some harmless and some malicious looking to really put a damper on your day.The plus addressing feature isnt a full-stop way to prevent spam; in fact, it wont prevent it any less, but it will put some power back in your hands, sorta speak, and help you identify bad online actors who arent being honest or safe with your information.Plus addressing in Gmail and OutlookGmail and Outlook both support plus addressing. Its very easy to set up and works by tacking on an alias to your email address using the + symbol. Example: youremailaddress+alias@gmail.comYou can put any word after the + to help you track who you gave your address to.Signing up to buy a new car? Try: youremailaddress+carvanna@outlook.comHow about a new social media account? Try: youremailaddress+bluesky@gmail.comAnd so onAll the emails from these services will still land in your inbox as normal, but now with the +alias we specified. If you receive an email from other companies referencing the address youremailaddress+carvanna@gmail.com, you will know where they got it from. Aliases in iCloud MailIf youre subscribed to iCloud+ for more than 5GB of free storage, you have access to the Hide My Email feature that works by generating unique, random email addresses that forward to your personal email. While this doesnt offer the same investigative satisfaction as plus addressing, not having to reveal your real email address at all is arguably a better solution. Users can deactivate a Hide My Email address and change which personal email to forward to in Mail settings. If youre not subscribed to iCloud+, iCloud Mail does support tried-and-true email aliases to an extent. Unfortunately, it maxes out at 3 aliases per iCloud account. On iCloud Mail web (not supported on macOS or iOS):Click on the gear icon -> Settings -> Account -> Add AliasAlthough not often, some online forms wont accept plus addressing and will shoot an error at you. Over the years, Ive also seen some chatter about marketing agencies removing the +alias from emails. I think were giving them too much credit; theyre lazier than most think, and plus addressing isnt widely adopted enough to be a problem for them.Let me know what you think in the comments. FUTURISM.COMTesla Investors Suddenly Terrified as They Realize Musk Has Dug Their GraveTesla's horrendous first quarter numbers have some of its backers rethinking a few things. Namely, their CEO Elon Musk, whose once immense starpower is now inverting on itself.Still haunted by last year's sales slump the first annual drop in its history Tesla has kicked off 2025 with a worrying omen that it may repeat the unwanted feat: a 13 percent drop in first-quarter deliveries. As the company faces widespread protests fueled by anti-Musk sentiment, the diagnosis is obvious."This is our first look at the impact of recent brand damage and it appears to be the primary driver behind this quarter's delivery decline," Deepwater Asset Management managing partner Gene Munsterwrote on X, as spotted by Reuters. "These growth rates will likely deteriorate further this quarter." Annual deliveries, Munster predicts, will slip by 9 percent."I estimate brand damage cost Tesla around 80k deliveries in the quarter," Munster added in another tweet. The problems are very much material, too. Musk made a big and brash gamble with the Cybertruck, a heterodox pickup truck with bold styling and an exorbitant price tag. And less than 50,000 of them have actually shipped nowhere near the 250,000 units sold that Musk promised investors before the stainless steel trapezoids started rolling off the lot last year.To some fans and investors, the big Cybertruckpush was a slap in the face. They had long begged Musk for a small, affordable Tesla that could sell in high volumes. Instead, what they got was a vehicle that weighs 7,000 pounds and costs upwards of $80,000. Even if the fabled affordable EV does come, investors don't sound confident that Tesla will nail it. Gary Black, managing partner of Tesla shareholder The Future Fund, worries that if the cheaper vehicle is simply a barebones version of an existing model, this year's deliveries and profits "will go much lower," he toldReuters. The rest of the Tesla lineup, meanwhile, is no longer as titillating in a market full of exciting EV options.Tesla is also getting smoked by its Chinese competitor BYD, which recently usurped Musk's company as the world's largest EV automaker, selling over 4 million vehicles and raking $100 billion in revenue in 2024. Tesla sold 1.79 million and took in $97.7 billion over the same period. It's impossible to ignore what Musk has recently positioned as Tesla's next big thing: the robotaxi business. At the unveiling event of a "Cybercab" prototype last year, Musk dubiously promised that pivoting into offering self-driving cabs would rake in trillions of dollars. But as the company struggles to refine its existing autonomous driving software options like Full Self-Driving, there's immense uncertainty over when if ever it can start rolling outsuch a vision. All the while, the mere act of driving around in a Tesla has become stigmatized in a way that would've been unthinkable just a few years ago. Tesla cars and dealerships alike are being targeted with vandalism, while owners are ruthlessly mocked. The degree of hate has surprised even Tesla skeptics. JPMorgan analyst Ryan Brinkman, who has long been bearish on the company, said in a report Friday that first quarter deliveries confirm the "unprecedented brand damage we had earlier feared."But "if anything," Brinkman added, "we may have underestimated the degree of consumer reaction."More on Tesla: Tesla Stock Is Soaring for the Funniest Possible ReasonShare This Article0 Comentários 0 Compartilhamentos 106 Visualizações
