The SNES has one of if not the most JRPG-heavy library, when you factor in Japanese exclusives. And as a result its difficult to find much but JRPGs when reading up on SNES hidden gems / deep cuts. So my question is - what are your best action / quicker-playthrough, non-strategy / non-JRPG hidden gems? Stuff like SOS is a good example.

Sort through checks, bills, and envelopes and sort them into two piles: Taxes or Toss. It’s quite satisfying. Turnip Boy Commits Tax Evasion Where to play: Android, iOS, Mac, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox One The actual gameplay isn’t as tax-related as in the previous games, but the premise is that Turnip Boy committed tax evasion and is now on a quest to destroy the corrupt vegetable government. Solve puzzles, fight creatures, and rip up tax documents on your journey. This is certainly the longest game of the bunch. Tax Heaven 3000 Where to play: Itch.io (for free!) Join Iris in searching for deductions and love. Tax Heaven 3000 is a dating sim made to highlight how easy filing taxes can be, and how corporate tax filing services like TurboTax can be “predatory, parasitic bottlenecks that deliberately complicate the tax filing process in order to make it unnavigable by ordinary people.” Unfortunately, this game cannot be used to actually prepare your taxes anymore, because it was made for the 2022 filing year only.

Monster Hunter Wilds' first major update introduced a lot of new features to the game, as well as new content in the form of a new monster to hunt, the returning monster Mizutsune and the highly-anticipated high rank Zoh Shia hunt, which is one of the most challenging fights in the game to date. As per series tradition, a hard hunt is rewarded with monster parts that can be used to craft powerful gear. After you have defeated high rank Zoh Shia in the Germination quest, you will likely want to fight the powerful monster again to get more of its parts to craft its excellent gear. The easiest way to fight the high rank variant of the campaign's final boss is to take advantage of the SOS Flare mechanics. Any time while not in a hunt, speak with Alma, select the SOS Flare Quests tab in the Quests menu, and select Zoh Shia as the target. Chances are you will find plenty of quests with some openings, although it may take some time to join a quest as these tend to fill up rather quickly. The second option to fight against high rank Zoh Shia again after taking it down the first time in Monster Hunter Wilds is by unlocking Zoh Shia Investigations in your game world, and doing so is simple enough, if you know where to look. The powerful monster can only appear in the Ruins of Wyveria during the season of Inclemency. As such, getting a Zoh Shia Investigation requires you to head over to the Ruins of Wyveria, enter your tent, change the Season to Inclemency, rinse and repeat until Zoh Shia appears, of which you will be notified in-game the same way you are notified about the appearance of other apex predators like Jin Dahaad and Rey Dau. At this point, you can already save the newly available hunting quest as an Investigation, which you can replay three times. If these three times are not enough to get all the parts you need, you will simply have to repeat the process above to make Zoh Shia appear again. Deal of the Day

Metal Gear's grim and competent special ops protagonist Solid Snake was only grim and quiet thanks to strict tech limitations restricting what his creator, Hideo Kojima, could do with him. Kojima made the comments in a recent interview with Japanese magazine An-An (which Automaton translated) and said the severe hardware restrictions of the MSX2, which Metal Gear first released on, meant he couldn't get too ambitious with his new creation's emotional profile."It was 1986 when I entered the game industry," Kojima said. "Games still couldn’t speak. Characters did not have voices. Kanji fonts weren’t supported, and you could only show one katakana character at a time. Solid Snake, the protagonist of my debut title Metal Gear (1987), was born as a silent ‘tough guy’ because of these circumstances."Those circumstances had changed by the time Kojima and Konami developed Metal Gear Solid in 1998, when Snake had a voice actor and more things to say. However, by that point, Kojima had made Solid Snake's stoic gruffness part of the character's personality. He said he envisioned Snake as a character similar to James Bond or Lupin the Third, delivering "snappy lines" when the situation called for them.
