Using your grappling hook and wingsuit, you can acquire dozens of weapons, equipment, and vehicles to aid your destruction goals while navigating the world in a fast-paced and extremely entertaining way.As a note, the entire Just Cause series is fantastic and the three additional games deliver a similar experience to the third installment. As the name of the game suggests, there's quite a bit of bullying going on at this school, and it's mostly directed at Jimmy. Your main goal in Bully is to push back against the bullies and navigate the school in the best way you can. Bully features fantastic characters, hilarious gameplay, and can be extremely relatable. While it may not be a game centered around causing destruction in an open world, it's worth playing if you're a fan of Rockstar Games and GTA. See on Fanatical L.A. Instead, you play as detective Cole Phelps and solve crimes using deduction and puzzle-solving skills. As you solve more crimes, Phelps ascends the ranks of the LAPD. The story is a standout aspect in L.A. Noire, and the crime-solving sections are incredibly in-depth and will certainly leave you scratching your head at times. It's one of the most underrated action-adventure games from the 2010s, and any GTA fan will find something they like about it. The game takes place in Hong Kong and you play as Wei Shen, an undercover detective attempting to infiltrate the Triads gang. As the game goes on, you earn more trust within the gang, but it becomes increasingly difficult to keep your cover intact. This plot makes for an excellent and memorable story, with plenty of characters to meet along the way. As for combat, you can fight your way across an open world using martial arts attacks, which feature gory finishers and animations. If you don't feel like fighting, you can take part in street races and acquire new vehicles to drive around the open world. It was originally thought up by David Jones, the man who created the GTA series, and features plenty of the same elements as the older GTA games. Crackdown puts a unique spin on its gameplay, though, as you're essentially a super human that can run fast, jump far and high, pick up and throw vehicles, and more. You're playing Crackdown strictly for the open-world gameplay, as the story and characters take a backseat to all the action, but it's some very fun action. If you end up enjoying the formula and want more, the aforementioned Saints Row series delved into this style with Saints Row 4. However, the gameplay isn't too dissimilar from other games on this list. Sure, you're playing as a Lego figure, but that just adds to the enjoyment factor. Lego City Undercover is an open-world game that sees you play as Chase McClain, an undercover cop who is aiming to hunt down an escaped convict. Over the course of the story, you can explore 20 unique districts, drive dozens of vehicles, and catch crooks who you find breaking the law. It might be the antithesis of what GTA is all about by playing on the side of the law, but there are also undercover parts where you get to be a criminal. The game is a roguelike that scales with how much chaos you can cause. The entire world is against you in this top-down simulation, and you can unlock myriad weapons, vehicles, characters, and perks to destroy anything and everything around you. As you create more mayhem, more opposing forces will come in to try and stop you, which will appeal to those who love wreaking havoc and racking up the Wanted stars in GTA. With it being Rockstar, you'll certainly feel some GTA elements here and there. It's still a third-person shooter with some interesting movement mechanics and a well-written story with engaging characters. However, the gunplay in Max Payne 3 is somewhat different from what you find in GTA. It was considered revolutionary for the time, back when it was released in 2012, and features precise aiming, slowdown mechanics during gunfights, and killshots. However, the core gunplay does feel like it was the early testing ground for what Rockstar eventually did with GTA V, giving fans a familiar feel to the GTA experience.Aside from the gunplay, Max Payne 3 features a classic Rockstar story, full of gripping and intense scenes, moments of betrayal, and a protagonist who has a myriad of problems that only get worse as the game goes on. The world in Max Payne 3 isn’t open world, which is certainly a departure for Rockstar, but the characters, gunplay, and storytelling make it feel like a GTA game, just with a linear experience instead of an open-ended one. Crime Boss: Rockay City is meant to offer a similar experience to completing heists in GTA V and GTA Online. Heists are essentially the main gameplay experience you'll have in the game, as the sole objective is to assemble a team, plan out a mission, and then execute it using different strategies. Crime Boss: Rockay City can also be compared to the Payday franchise.Rockay City isn't going to deliver nearly the same caliber of experience as GTA does, and indeed, it received middling reviews upon release. That said, the graphics are decent, and the first-person shooting can feel rewarding, but heists are the sole name of the game, and with four-player co-op, it can be enjoyable with a group of friends. If you're playing solo, you can still have fun if you're into the heist gameplay, but it does get repetitive after a while. Set in the fictional country of Yara, which closely resembles Cuba, you step into the shoes of a rebel fighter who is tasked with taking down the dictatorship that rules over the country with an iron fist. Your journey takes place over a massive open world that consists of small settlements, vast jungles, and open oceans. However, you also get to explore the country's capital, which is a sprawling city that's the closest thing you'll find to Los Santos in the game.Far Cry 6 doesn't feature an overwhelming number of similarities to GTA, but the open world is vast and encourages chaos at most junctions. You also get to meet a cast of colorful characters, interact with some drug rings, and drive an assortment of vehicles as you progress through the story, which culminates in a spectacular fight between you and the game's main villain, played by Giancarlo Esposito. See on Amazon Like a Dragon: Infinite WealthDeveloper: Ryu Ga Gotoku StudioRelease Date: January 25, 2024Platforms: PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PCGenre: RPGAs a whole, the entire Yakuza franchise could be an entry on this list, as the games feature plenty of crime, action, and memorable quests and characters. However, we're opting to select the newest Yakuza game, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, due to its setting. You're placed right in the middle of the Pacific, where you get to see both Hawaii and Japan. You can explore beaches as well as a buzzing downtown district where action is always awaiting around the corner.In terms of combat, Yakuza features an entirely different system from GTA. You and up to three other NPC party members utilize different skills and attacks to take enemies down. But it's your relationship with the city you navigate that is most reminiscent of Japan. The Yakuza series has always been great about making its locations feel like real places, and Infinite Wealth's map is overflowing with activities to take part in, giving you hours of additional content outside of the main story. Of course, ill-prepared and overwhelmed farmers were no proper army then, and it took Rand (Josha Stradowski), Mat (Barney Harris, now played by Dónal Finn), Perrin (Marcus Rutherford), Egwene (Madeleine Madden), and Nynaeve (Zoë Robins) fleeing their home for the onslaught to cease. Now, 23 episodes and four years later, the fate of the Two Rivers has been called into question once again in season 3’s bloody, battle-ridden seventh episode. But much like the Wheel’s meticulous weaving, this full-circle moment speaks to the overall success of The Wheel of Time’s ambitious, centuries-spanning story and its unique position in our modern fantasy landscape. Because while that first battle was a devastating push to bring Wheel’s most influential teens closer to their destiny, episode 7’s brutality is triumphant, bloody proof that the kids that fled that day have since changed this world for the better. Perrin, removed from his friends and struggling to become a leader in a town that used to feel like home, steps into his destiny in the same way Rand and Mat did in season 2’s similarly triumphant finale, finally granting him his long-awaited redemption for the lingering guilt he has shouldered. And it’s through this powerful and moving return that The Wheel of Time cements its commitment to weaving an earnest fantasy epic, free of the strings attached to nearly all of its modern counterparts. As Perrin sits by the fire in the very inn his friends used to drink and gamble in, stands in the very forge where he swung an ax into his wife, and looks onto the faces of those he’s known and loved his whole life, the ghosts of his past lingering in every frame elevate the stakes of his return. He tells Loial (Hammed Animashaun) to carry on the memory of the Two Rivers, to ensure that others “learn from [their] stories” so that “when the Shadow comes for them, they’ll win.” It’s that commitment to carrying the torch for the past while forging a path into the future that elevates the series’ ambitious epic. With characters like Lanfear (Natasha O’Keeffe) white-knuckling past lives and figureheads like Siuan (Sophie Okonedo) contemplating the possibility that Rand may break the world once again, Wheel’s panoptic awareness of its sprawling fantasy weave ensures each lore dump and carefully plotted reveal is load-bearing and satisfying.  When Perrin breaks out in song during the group’s long trek to Tar Valon in the series’ first season, the tale of Manetheren and its determined people feels so distant. But as the folks of the Two Rivers begin to take up arms, knowing full well that they stand alone in protecting the home they cherish, Manetheren’s distant memory enhances their fight — the story of sacrifice and determination singing on the wind once again. The Wheel of Time places reverence in repetition, and uses the history of both the series itself and the characters within it to highlight the power and magnitude of choice and will. The Wheel may wind its pawns through its never-ending cycle, but it’s the informed choices of these central players (and the informed irony of its audience) that allows Wheel to craft a story that is as much about the past as it is about the future.  Unlike its modern fantasy peers — prequels engaging with the past in shallow, referential ways (House of the Dragon, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power) or unwieldy pseudo-franchises spinning off in numerous unsuccessful directions (The Witcher) — The Wheel of Time uniquely interlays every moment of its unfolding history alongside the characters we care about in the present and the ways their futures may unravel.  So when swords begin clashing and arrows begin flying, the epic highs and heart-pounding lows of this battle don’t come from its relation to another piece of media from decades ago, an adrenaline-shot of nostalgia from a mirrored image, or a payoff for something revealed in a supplemental series unwatched by most casual viewers — the stakes come from a meaningful investment in the story being told in this show, a series committed to exploring the past, present, and future of this complex story through the Wheel’s well-revved narrative engine. While its peers vend in nostalgia bait and use Easter eggs as shorthand in place of connective narrative tissue, Prime Video’s other fantasy outing gives weight and reverence to both its past and its future. And episode 7’s bloody battle for the Two Rivers perfectly encapsulates The Wheel of Time’s careful balance between its weaving Wheel and its expansive ambitions.  The Wheel of Time spends its seventh episode referencing its past not as a reward for certain audiences’ continued investment in its parent companies’ precious IP, but as ample payoff for investing in this specific story with these specific characters, and believing in both them and the series itself enough to stick with it through its mid-COVID woes and its streaming-typical extended hiatuses. By being tethered to nothing but its (admittedly overly long) source material, The Wheel of Time fundamentally relies on these satisfying full-circle moments to elevate itself above its peers, all while doubling down on its central messaging.  Because, even in a fantasy world ruled by the undulating Wheel and the very real consequences of being caught unaware of the past, The Wheel of Time pulls no punches in drawing mirrored comparisons to our current moment. As our country is pulled further and further into the past by the current administration, The Wheel of Time’s commitment to questioning just how much a people can let history repeat itself before change is forced and forged is refreshing and eye-opening for its fantastical implications and its real-world, stomach-churning relatability.  While any other fantasy series may have drawn out the bloodshed, complete with flashy filmmaking and over-the-top action, The Wheel of Time’s comparatively quiet buildup to the all-out brawl places emotional reunions and intimate conversations above fantasy showmanship. And when the trollocs begin to invade in earnest, the episode is better for having spent the time allowing for soft ruminations on the past before questioning whether or not these characters will live to see the next dawn. More than anything, The Wheel of Time has wisely utilized every moment of its often overstuffed seasons to aid in telling one of modern TV’s most intriguing and moving fantasies, allowing its past, present, and the bright possibility of its future to guide the characters we know and love into each magnificent chapter.

While Apple users have long been able to save passwords using iCloud Keychain, the actual management experience was buried within Settings or Safari. With the Passwords app, Apple has turned what was once a tucked-away feature into a full-fledged application that works across iPhone, iPad and Mac. The app holds all your saved login credentials, plus passkeys, verification codes and Wi-Fi passwords. Everything is securely stored, synced via iCloud and protected by Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode. With it, you can more easily search for logins, get security recommendations, share credentials with family members and store two-factor authentication codes all in one place. View Autofill Settings. Make sure Autofill Passwords and Passkeys are turned on. Choose Passwords as your default autofill provider. They are intended to be more phishing-resistant since they can’t be reused or copied across services. If a website or app supports passkeys, Safari will prompt you to create one when signing in or registering. Once saved, the passkey is stored in the Passwords app. To view and manage passkeys: Open the Passwords app. Tap Passkeys. You’ll see a Passkey section if one has been saved. Passkeys work across Apple devices and can even be used on non-Apple platforms by scanning a QR code when prompted. Verification codes Verification codes are used in two-factor authentication (2FA) systems. The Passwords app can now generate these codes automatically. To set up a verification code: Open the Passwords app. Tap the login entry you want to edit. Tap Edit > Set Up Code. Scan a QR code provided by the website, or enter the code manually. The app will generate a six-digit code that refreshes every 30 seconds. The code will also autofill when you log into a compatible website or app, saving you the hassle of switching to a separate authenticator app. How to share passwords securely You can share saved credentials with others using iMessage. This is helpful for families or teams who need access to shared accounts. The passwords are sent via end-to-end encrypted messages, ensuring privacy and security. A new report suggests Siri's slow AI upgrade will continue later this year, most probably as part of iOS 19.

This week, genomics and biotechnology company Colossal Biosciences unveiled genetically engineered canines—named Romulus, Remus, and Khaleesi—that it calls dire wolves, a species of wolf that went extinct 13,000 years ago. The company, which has raised $437 million from investors and is valued at $10.2 billion, created the animals by editing the DNA of existing gray wolf cells to include traits from long-extinct dire wolves (like fluffy white fur and big size). It then developed embryos using cloning technology and implanted them into a female dog. Critics immediately disagreed with Colossal’s de-extinction claim, saying that the creatures, which were incubated and birthed by a large female dog, are closer to genetically modified designer dogs.  Colossal’s cofounder and CEO Ben Lamm is now pushing back. “It’s a stupid argument,” Lamm said in an interview with the Most Innovative Companies podcast this week when asked about the criticism. “We’ve said from day one that we are going to do a lot of computational analysis and then identify the core genes that make a mammoth or a dire wolf or a dodo and engineer them back into its closest living relatives.” At the heart of the issue is the question of how to define de-extinction. “There are about 11 different ways to classify a species,” Lamm said. “Our definition of de-extinction is on our website. It explains that there’s a thing called functional de-extinction. The IUCN, which is like the Species Council for the world, five years ago, put out a statement saying that de-extinction means developing proxies.” Proxies, he explains, are not exact replicas of an extinct species, but come very close genetically. On Thursday, Colossal submitted a study that it sponsored for peer review. The research claims that new information about genomics supports Colossal’s argument about the wolves’ classification. The paper builds on that previous study, published in Nature, and presents further evidence that dire wolves are considered to have a distinct evolutionary lineage from wolves. It lays out the defining characteristics that resulted in the dire wolf being considered a separate species. Because Colossal’s canines exhibit nearly all of those characteristics, the company argues that the animals should be classified as such. The dog that mothered them has been made available to adopt through an anonymous program. As the company pushes forward on its larger project of bringing back extinct species, Lamm hopes to rewild all of its creations in their natural habitats. Lamm hit back at that critique, pointing out that the company makes some of its technologies available free to conservation groups and academic partners. To make money, the company has spun out an AI-based software platform, Form Bio, which helps scientists manage complicated data sets.
