WCCFTECH.COMApple, Dell & Major Tech Companies Managed To “Front-Run” Trump Tariffs As PC Shipments Reach Highest Levels in Four YearsMenu Home News Hardware Gaming Mobile Finance Deals Reviews How To Wccftech HardwareIndustry Apple, Dell & Major Tech Companies Managed To “Front-Run” Trump Tariffs As PC Shipments Reach Highest Levels in Four Years Muhammad Zuhair • Apr 12, 2025 at 10:08am EDT Well, it seems like Trump's tariffs did bring back momentum to the PC supply chain, as a new report by Canalys shows that companies imported PC products in mass volumes. PC Companies Tried To Escape Trump Tariffs By Importing In Large Quantities, Trying To Squeeze In Extra Margins The new US trade policy has caused uncertainty in global markets, with them being targeted explicitly toward China, which holds a large portion of the supply chain. In order to counter the influence of tariffs, tech giants such as Apple, Dell, HP, and others managed to import PC products in massive quantities, and the increase in shipments was noted to be the highest since COVID-19, according to a report by the research firm Canalys. Now, with this, it is safe to say that corporations have a huge "tariff-free" inventory in their hands. PC shipments experienced a surge in Q1 2025, driven by vendors accelerating deliveries to the US in anticipation of initial tariff announcements. This preemptive strategy allowed manufacturers and the channel to stock up ahead of potential cost increases, boosting sell-in shipments despite otherwise stable end-user demand. - Canalys The Q1 2025 PC shipments figures grew by 9.4%, reaching 62.7 million units, and this figure includes desktops, notebooks, and workstations, which shows that the overall supply chain was keen to avoid the effect of the new tariffs, at least for the inventory they can acquire. In a previous report, we disclosed how major tech companies were forcing their suppliers to speed up the production process, and with shipment volumes seeing a massive surge, it is safe to say that the supply chain has been successful in "front-running" the new policies. Image Credits: Canalys However, the consumer will have to pay for the tariffs since, according to retailers in the market, they cannot absorb the effect of new taxes, and ultimately, they will need to raise product prices. It was claimed that PC component pricing could grow by as much as 50%, and with China now facing a 145% tariff, parts will only get more expensive and challenging to acquire. This is indeed a disappointing situation to look at, given how geopolitical tensions have evolved to be a burden for an average consumer.

While not as yet officially announced, a third Horizontitle is all but assured, and is staged to conclude the current narrative in a major way.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 62 Views

WWW.POLYGON.COMImmortality: Design Works is one of the biggest game art books to dateAt nearly 600 pages, including the game’s complete screenplay — and more than a dozen bonus trinkets in the Deluxe Edition — Lost in Cult’s upcoming Immortality: Design Works isn’t the sort of book you fit neatly into your collection; it’s the sort of book you build a collection around. The fifth entry in the U.K. publisher’s Design Works series, the Immortality book dives deep into one of Polygon’s favorite games of 2022, the FMV game that answers the question, “What happened to Marissa Marcel?” Mixing artwork with archival photos, interviews, and analysis, Immortality: Design Works will be shipping soon, so we reached out to get a bit more detail on what to expect. As part of an effort to spotlight game-related books and documentaries, Polygon is running an email interview series with the people behind them. Check out the full list to read up on an Untitled Goose Game book, a Housemarque documentary, and others. Below, Immortality: Design Works book author Chris Schilling discusses the game, thermo-reactive ink, and Lost in Cult’s highest page count to date. Polygon: The book looks like it includes a bit of everything. What percentage is the game’s script and what percentage is writing about the game, artwork, etc.? Chris Schilling: It’s hard to break down into percentages; suffice it to say that the complete Immortality screenplay alone runs to more than 400 pages. The rest comprises a detailed oral history, interspersed with features covering individual aspects of production — from how Half-Mermaid and crew achieved a period-perfect look for three fictional films to the game’s haunting sound design. In total, it’s close to 600 pages, making it Lost In Cult’s biggest individual book to date. The store listing mentions “thermo-reactive ink that responds to the heat of your hands.” Can you explain how that works and what’s hidden in there? That would be telling! We’d like readers to discover it for themselves, but the description basically says it all — if you place your hands on certain pages, you’ll reveal what’s hidden beneath the surface. It works if you hold a flame nearby, too, though we wouldn’t advise that! What’s an obscure detail most people wouldn’t know that you learned about the game while working on the book? Because of the game’s intricate nature, and how the scenes are interconnected, all the actors had to stick very closely to the script. But there was one moment where an accident forced a particular actor to ad-lib a line, which was so good it was kept in. It’s a really funny anecdote, so readers should look out for that one. Also, one of the production team [members] made an unexpected cameo in the game that no one knows about; again, I’ll preserve the surprise for the book. The last thing I’ll add is that you’ll learn at least as much about the filmmaking process as the game part — just about everyone I spoke to offered illuminating insights into their roles, but chatting with the game’s BAFTA-nominated costume designer Kerry Hennessy was a particular treat: that has to be one of the most enjoyable interviews I’ve ever done. At a glance, it looks like the Deluxe Edition has about 15 items in the box. Anything you wanted to include that you weren’t able to? At Lost In Cult we’re always keen to push the boat out and give our readers as much bang for their buck as possible. As a writer, I invariably feel like I could have done more — but extending the page count further could have made an already massive book quite unwieldy! I think the Deluxe Edition makes for a pretty comprehensive package — especially the in-fiction extras which provide some telling extra details. In particular, Manon Gage’s in-character script annotations as Marissa Marcel will be catnip for Immortality fans; discussing those with her was one of my personal highlights of the project.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 52 Views

LIFEHACKER.COMYou Can Bring Back the Minimal Apple Mail iPhone LayoutThe Mail app on iPhone got quite a visual overhaul in iOS 18.2. Suddenly, there was a whole AI-powered Priority mailbox, smart Categories up top, and an icon from every sender. For longtime Mail app users on the iPhone, that's a big shift—with seemingly minimal returns. The contact photos feature is perhaps the worst offender here, as most icons are just stock Apple icons. Even if you get an email from Lifehacker, it won't show the Lifehacker website logo, like it does when you visit the website in your browser. And this is the case with the vast majority of email addresses. Credit: Khamosh Pathak Thankfully, Apple seems to have listened to these complaints—in iOS 18.5, they are adding a toggle to remove contact photos altogether. And you don't need to go all the way into Settings to do this, either. As of this writing, iOS 18.5 is only available as a developer beta, though it should be available as a public beta soon enough. Anyone can now sign up and download the iOS developer beta, though I generally don't recommend it. Developer betas are more susceptible to early bugs and issues, since Apple releases these versions of the betas first. These things are usually ironed out by the time the public beta hits. The public beta is also easier to install, and more stable. To access this feature, I would suggest you wait for the 18.5 public beta, or the wider stable release that will be sometime in early-to-mid May.How to disable contact photos in the Mail appTo get rid of the contact photos, open the Mail app and tap the three-dotted Menu button, then uncheck Show Contact Photos. Credit: Khamosh Pathak Instantly, the column of icons on the left edge will disappear, and the email contents will take up all the available space. Ah, the good old days.Alternatively, you can also use the Settings app to disable this feature. This option has existed all the way since iOS 18.2 launched, but it's hidden quite deep in the Settings app. Here, go to Apps > Mail and then disable the Show Contact Photos option. How to remove Categories and other Mail AI featuresBut you might notice you're still not back to how the Mail app used to be. That's because of the Categories View and the Priority Mail section. Credit: Khamosh Pathak Both those features can be disabled from the same Menu popup, and you don't need to be using iOS 18.5 either. Every iPhone running iOS 18.2 or higher will see these options in the menu. Here, switch to List View to get rid of the Categories section, and then uncheck Show Priority to remove Priority Mail.To find out more about removing all the AI features in Mail, check out our detailed guide.0 Σχόλια 0 Μοιράστηκε 74 Views

WWW.ENGADGET.COMSmartphones, computers and other electronics are exempt from Trump’s reciprocal tariffs for nowUS Customs and Border Protection has published a list of products that will be excluded from Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, including smartphones, computers, semiconductors and memory cards, along with other electronic devices and components. The move comes shortly after Trump imposed a 125 percent tariff on goods from China, which the administration confirmed to CNBC and other outlets is in addition to the 20 percent tariff put in place earlier this year, bringing it to a total of 145 percent. Trump had previously announced higher reciprocal tariffs for other countries, too, but walked this back with a 90-day “pause” earlier this week. The pause does not apply to China, though, and there’s still a 10 percent tariff on imports from almost all countries. Electronics imports in particular are expected to be hit hard by the new rules, and we’ve already seen companies like Nintendo and Razer changing up their plans around upcoming product launches in the US. The newly published exclusions would exempt many devices and parts from both the 10 percent global tariff and the steeper tariff on China, according to the notice published on Friday. But at the rate this has all been going, who knows how long that will last.
