WWW.FASTCOMPANY.COMFind these 6 Easter eggs on your iPhone or MacIf real Easter eggs aren’t your thing this weekend, you may find hunting for digital ones more enjoyable. And there are some cool ones to find at your fingertips, provided you have an iPhone or Mac. Apple has packed the iOS and macOS operating systems with several fun little references, many harking back to the legacy of the company or other companies in the tech industry. Microsoft’s Blue Screen of Death This one’s been around for a while, and it’s a fan favorite. The Finder on your Mac can show other computers connected to the same network. These computers are represented by icons. If the connected computers are other Macs, you’ll see icons that accurately represent the shape of the computer, such as a modern MacBook Pro or even an old G4 iMac from the early 2000s. But if the connected computers are Windows PCs, you’ll see the same icon for them all: an ugly beige CRT monitor with the infamous Windows Blue Screen of Death—the screen PC users see when something has gone seriously wrong with the Windows operating system. The icon choice is Apple’s subtle dig at its once archnemesis, and it has been an Easter egg in the Mac’s operating systems for a few decades now. iPhone Voice Memo app icon In this case, the Easter egg is an iPhone app icon itself. The waveform in the Voice Memos app icon may not be just a random glyph. Instead, SiliconRepublic says, the waveform’s shape is the one you get when you use Voice Memos to record the word “Apple.” In my tests, it’s pretty accurate, but your mileage may vary depending on how you enunciate words. Safari Reading List icon Apple has snuck a few direct references to Steve Jobs in its operating systems. The first can be found in the Safari app on iPhone. Open up Safari and then tap the bookmarks icon at the bottom of the screen. See the “Reading List” icon in the center of the pop-up? Those are a pair of eyeglasses—but not just any. They look remarkably identical to the round spectacles Steve Jobs made iconic. Record label with Steve Jobs’s phrases There’s another reported Steve Jobs reference in Apple’s software. This one is in macOS. If you open the System Settings app, click Users & Groups, and then click on your profile picture to edit it, you’ll notice that under the “Suggestions” folder full of icons, you can select an icon of a record turntable. Well, if you go to where the icon image file is actually stored in macOS (Macintosh HD>Library>User Pictures>Instruments) and open the “Turntable.heic” file, you’ll see the record on the turntable lists four tracks on its label: “1. Magic 2. Revolution 3. Boom! 4. Unbelievable.” These were all words Jobs frequently exclaimed during his keynote speeches and demos, notes iDropNews. “Here’s to the crazy ones” Next to its seminal “1984” ad, Apple’s most iconic campaign was probably “Think Different”, from the late 1990s. That campaign features a poem called “Here’s to the crazy ones.” Apple has commemorated that poem in two places in its operating systems. The first is in the System Settings app in macOS. Click on the Display preferences panel, and you’ll notice the text size adjustment icons display the opening text from the poem. “Here’s to the crazy ones” can also be found printed on the pages of the open book emoji found in iOS and macOS. Let It Snow (in the Apple Store app) Finally, back in 2021, Apple snuck a little Easter egg into its Apple Store app for iPhone, noted AppleInsider. If you type in “let it snow” in the search field of the Apple Store app, the app will then display digital falling snow across your screen. While this Easter egg isn’t a direct reference to Apple, it’s a fun one to trigger during the winter holidays. A history of Apple Easter eggs During my research for this story, I consulted several older Apple Easter egg roundups—such as the ones published by iDropNews, MacRumors, and Mental Floss—to make sure that I had forgotten any big ones. I discovered that Apple has actually removed a fair amount of them from its operating systems. These removals include former Easter eggs that allowed you to play Tetris in the Terminal app or watch Star Wars reenacted in ASCII. There also used to be a Bitcoin Easter egg in macOS, but Apple has now removed that, too. I also remember from back in the day that when you typed “evil empire” into the OS X Dictionary app, you would find the entry for Microsoft. But that seems to be gone from macOS now, too. In other words, it seems like Apple has been cracking down on Easter eggs in recent years, so enjoy the above while you can.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 76 Views

WWW.YANKODESIGN.COMGolem Stone Lamp Concept Blends Raw Sculpture With Serene LightingLighting can be more than just a functional element in a room, and the Golem Stone Lamp Concept proves that with style. At first glance, you’re drawn to its bold, monolithic presence, a raw stone form that looks like it’s straight out of nature. There’s a peaceful vibe to it, but also something quietly powerful that makes you want to reach out and touch it. Unlike your average desk lamp, Golem blends stone and light in a way that feels genuinely interactive. The dark, textured stone base has an unrefined beauty that’s both ancient and modern. Lighting elements nestle perfectly into carved slots, creating a visual harmony and balance that’s easy on the eyes. The soft glow from the lights contrasts beautifully with the roughness of the stone, making the whole piece feel purposeful and intentional. Designer: Liam de la Bedoyere It’s easy to see why the name “Golem” fits so well. The stone almost feels alive, thanks to its ability to hold and play with the lighting modules however you like. Arranging the lights becomes an intuitive process, and the lamp responds to your creativity as if it’s collaborating with you. There’s a sense of personality to the design that makes it more than just a lamp. It’s a companion for late-night sketching sessions or quiet reading nooks. Every angle reveals something new about the Golem Lamp. The symmetry of the lighting elements offers a calming counterpoint to the organic base, drawing your focus and making the lamp look different depending on how you position it. This dynamic quality is a big part of its appeal, making it just as exciting for product designers to study as it is for anyone who loves beautiful, functional decor. Texture plays a huge role in the way Golem feels. The rough, matte finish of the stone grounds the design, while the smooth, glowing elements add a touch of softness and warmth. This interplay between hard and soft, light and dark, gives the lamp a visual depth that you don’t often see in lighting products. It’s an object that asks you to slow down and appreciate the details. One of the most impressive things about the Golem Stone Lamp is the way it’s presented. As an entry in the Yanko Design x KeyShot Photorealism Rendering Challenge, the designer used only KeyShot’s new Planar Lights to achieve the effect, using no HDRIs or environmental lighting at all. This commitment to photorealism with limited tools adds another layer of creativity and technical skill to an already memorable concept, making Golem a standout project for anyone passionate about design. WWW.TECHSPOT.COMMass phone tracking via cell tower dumps ruled unconstitutionalWhat just happened? A pivotal legal decision has emerged from Nevada, where a federal judge has questioned the constitutionality of a controversial investigative tool known as a "tower dump." This law enforcement method allows police to collect data en masse from cell towers, capturing information on every device that connects to a tower during a specific time window. The practice, which can sweep up the location and identifying details of thousands of cell phones, has been widely used to aid criminal investigations – and has also sparked intense debate over privacy and constitutional rights. The case at the center of this ruling involves Cory Spurlock, who faces serious charges including conspiracy to distribute marijuana and alleged involvement in a murder-for-hire plot. In an effort to place Spurlock at the scenes of the crimes, investigators obtained a warrant for a tower dump, which ultimately captured data from nearly 1,700 unique phones. The data, provided by a wireless carrier, revealed which phones had connected to specific cell towers near the alleged crime scenes during the relevant time frames. Crucially, none of the individuals whose data was collected had given explicit consent for their location information to be shared, nor was there any mechanism for them to opt out. When the case reached court, Spurlock's defense team argued that the warrant authorizing the tower dump was overly broad, effectively allowing police to track the digital whereabouts of countless innocent people. They contended that this amounted to a "general warrant" – the kind of indiscriminate search the framers of the Constitution explicitly sought to prohibit. In her written opinion, US District Judge Miranda M. Du agreed, ruling that the tower dump constituted a search under the Fourth Amendment and that the warrant failed to meet constitutional standards for specificity and probable cause. Despite this, Judge Du ultimately allowed the evidence from the tower dump to be used in Spurlock's trial. She explained that the officers involved had relied on existing legal standards, and that at the time of the investigation, there was no clear guidance from higher courts in the region regarding the use of tower dumps. The implications of this ruling extend far beyond Spurlock's case. Privacy advocates have long warned that tower dumps, by their very nature, collect data on large numbers of people who have no connection to any criminal activity. In court, expert witnesses described how the data obtained could be used to reconstruct the movements and associations of every person whose phone connected to the targeted towers, raising concerns about mass surveillance and the erosion of privacy for ordinary citizens. // Related Stories The Nevada decision follows a similar ruling in Mississippi, where another federal judge found tower dumps unconstitutional and barred their use in an FBI investigation. That case is currently on appeal, with the Department of Justice arguing that tower dumps are a critical tool for law enforcement and that the legal questions surrounding their use remain unsettled. The broader legal landscape is complicated by the Supreme Court's 2018 decision in Carpenter v. United States, which held that police generally need a warrant to access historical cell-site location data. However, the Carpenter ruling was narrowly tailored and did not directly address the legality of tower dumps or other forms of bulk data collection, leaving lower courts to wrestle with how the Fourth Amendment applies in these contexts. As legal challenges mount and conflicting decisions emerge across the country, many observers believe the Supreme Court may soon be called upon to clarify the constitutionality of tower dumps.0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 57 Views

WWW.FOXNEWS.COMCyberattacks on nursing homes: How to protect your loved onesPublished April 19, 2025 3:10pm EDT | Updated April 19, 2025 11:10pm EDT close China linked to major US cyberattack during Biden’s term Palantir’s head of defense, Mike Gallagher, joins ‘America’s Newsroom’ to react to a Wall Street Journal report alleging China was behind a major U.S. cyberattack during President Biden’s time in office. Taking care of your loved ones comes in many forms: cooking a warm meal after a long day, lending a listening ear when life gets tough, sending a check-in text just because or making sure they receive the right support at a nursing home. But as recent events have shown, care shouldn’t stop there. Physical and mental well-being are essential, but protecting finances and personal information is just as important. I’ll walk you through some steps you can take and some services worth considering to stay one step ahead of cybercriminals.STAY PROTECTED & INFORMED! GET SECURITY ALERTS & EXPERT TECH TIPS — SIGN UP FOR KURT’S THE CYBERGUY REPORT NOW A man being helped with technology (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)Protecting nursing home residents from cyberattacks and data breachesScammers and fraudsters often have no moral compass, and they increasingly target the most vulnerable, especially nursing homes and the personal data of their residents.Take the case of Hillcrest Nursing Home, the victim of a cyberattack that led to a data breach affecting more than 100,000 people. Names, birth dates, Social Security numbers, patient records, treatment information, insurance details and provider data — all leaked in a single incident.WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI)?The good news? There are things you can do to help safeguard your loved ones’ financial and personal data in the event of a similar breach. A group of elderly nursing home residents (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)Cyberattacks exploit vulnerable systems and elderly patientsIn the first few months of 2025 alone, more than half a dozen nursing homes have reported some form of cyberattack. Experts say elderly patients are being targeted because they’re simply easier marks, from limited digital literacy to a lower likelihood of regularly monitoring their financial or medical accounts.Add to that the often outdated and vulnerable IT infrastructure of nursing homes, and you’ve got a prime target. As a security advisor from Optiv, a cybersecurity solutions company, explains, these centers typically operate on tight budgets, which means cybersecurity isn’t always a top priority — or even feasible at the level it should be. A woman in a wheelchair in a nursing home (Kurt "CyberGuy" Knutsson)6 things you should do to make sure your loved ones are safe from cyber threats and identity theftCybercriminals are becoming increasingly sophisticated, but, with the right precautions, you can protect your loved ones from falling victim to these threats. Here’s a guide to six essential actions you can take to safeguard their personal and financial information. 1. Freeze credit accounts to prevent fraudData breaches usually happen for one reason — financial gain. This often involves selling stolen information to scammers or hackers who use it for fraudulent activities, such as running credit fraud schemes. Since many forms of identity theft revolve around credit accounts, it’s crucial to take action if your or a loved one’s personal data has been exposed. One of the most effective ways to prevent credit fraud is by placing a security freeze on your credit accounts. A security freeze stops anyone from opening new accounts, issuing new cards or conducting any credit-related activities in your name while the freeze is in place. If managing this process feels overwhelming, consider using an identity theft protection service. These services can handle placing and managing security freezes on your behalf, saving you time and ensuring the process is done correctly. Many of these services also offer additional features, such as credit monitoring and alerts, to help you stay on top of potential threats to your personal information. Taking this step can significantly reduce the risk of identity theft and provide peace of mind that your financial information is secure.Identity theft companies can monitor personal information like your Social Security number, phone number and email address and alert you if it is being sold on the dark web or being used to open an account. They can also assist you in freezing your bank and credit card accounts to prevent further unauthorized use by criminals. See my tips and best picks on how to protect yourself from identity theft.2. Place a fraud alertA fraud alert is an extra layer of protection for your credit accounts. Like a credit freeze, you can set it up with all three credit bureaus. When you activate a fraud alert, it notifies the bureaus that there may be suspicious activity on your account. As a result, any attempts to open new credit or make changes will be looked at more carefully.Equifax: You can place a fraud alert online or by calling their customer support at (888) 298-0045.Experian: Place a fraud alert online or contact their customer service at (888) 397-3742.TransUnion: You can place a fraud alert online or call them at (800) 916-8800.GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HERE3. Sign them up for a data removal serviceNow that your credit accounts are secured, there’s one more step worth taking, a broader layer of protection. I’m talking about personal data removal services. These companies specialize in removing your personal information from the internet. With how easy it is for someone to find details like your name, address, contact info, relatives and more, you and your loved ones are at greater risk for scams and identity theft. This is especially true for older adults, who are often seen as easier targets by scammers. Even just for peace of mind, it’s worth taking this extra step. There are plenty of services out there that tackle this issue. Check out my top picks for data removal services here.4. Install strong antivirus softwareInstall strong antivirus software to further safeguard your loved ones' devices and personal information. Strong antivirus programs help block malware, spyware and phishing attempts that can lead to identity theft. The best way to safeguard yourself from malicious links that install malware, potentially accessing your private information, is to have antivirus software installed on all your devices. This protection can also alert you to phishing emails and ransomware scams, keeping your personal information and digital assets safe. Get my picks for the best 2025 antivirus protection winners for your Windows, Mac, Android and iOS devices.5. Regularly review financial statementsEncourage your loved ones to regularly review their bank and credit card statements for any suspicious transactions or do it for them. Early detection can help prevent significant financial loss.6. Educate on internet safetyMany elderly people fall victim to scams due to limited digital literacy. Providing basic cybersecurity education, such as recognizing phishing emails, avoiding suspicious links and using strong passwords, can significantly reduce their risk of being targeted. Consider using a password manager to generate and store complex passwords. Get more details about my best expert-reviewed Password Managers of 2025 here.Kurt's key takeaways Remember that protecting your loved ones from cyber threats and identity theft is an ongoing process. It’s not just about taking a few steps and forgetting about it. It's about continually updating your strategies as new threats emerge. By combining these measures, like freezing credit accounts, using fraud alerts, removing personal data from the internet, installing strong antivirus software, regularly reviewing financial statements and educating them on internet safety, you can significantly reduce the risk of identity theft and provide peace of mind for both you and your loved ones.CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APPHave you or a loved one ever been a victim of a cyberattack or identity theft? WWW.FORBES.COMWWE WrestleMania 41 Day 1 Highlights And ReactionsMINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA - APRIL 7: Paul Heyman gets ready to address the audience during Monday Night ... More RAW at Target Center on April 7, 2025 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. (Photo by Rich Freeda/WWE via Getty Images)WWE via Getty Images WrestleMania 41 kicked off from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday. I live blogged the entire show. The biggest story: Paul Heyman pulled the ultimate double-double cross turning on his client and friend to give Seth Rollins the win in the main event. It was a fantastic ending to the main event. Becky Lynch loved the ending. Take a look at every entrance, big moment and reaction from Day 1 of the grandest show on the professional wrestling calendar. Predictably, he received a rousing reception from fans.Triple H (Photo by WWE/Getty Images)WWE via Getty Images World Heavyweight Championship Match: Jey Uso def. (c) Gunther – NEW CHAMPION Entrances The World Heavyweight Title match opens the show, but record producer Salvatore had a brief appearance to usher in Uso’s arrival. Jey’s entrance was supersized on a WrestleMania level. He entered through the massive crowd. Uso was far more subdued than normal, despite Las Vegas Raiders cheerleaders being on the scene and other massive levels of pageantry. Appropriately, Gunther entered with little pomp and circumstance, befitting his no-nonsense style. Celebrity Callouts There was also an acknowledgment of combat sports powerbroker Turki Alalshikh. Big Moments It took less than 30 minutes of the entire program for us to see not one, but two finishers landed with kick outs. We didn’t just see the finishers land with kick outs, Gunther also used a slight distraction to land a blow with the championship belt to Uso’s head. Jey kicked out of that too–after a splash from the top rope from the Ring General. Uso hits Gunther with a taste of his own medicine. Jey lands a power bomb on the champion that set up three Uso splashes and a rear-naked choke that led to a submission win. WOW! I thought Uso would win, but not by submission. That is unbelievable. Awesomely, Jimmy Uso joined his brother in the ring to Yeet and celebrate the win. Awesome moment for the Samoan dynasty. Def Jam and hip-hop icon Rick Rubin, San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle and famed illusionist Chris Angel were highlighted. World Tag Team Championship Match: The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods) def. (c) The War Raiders (Erik and Ivar) - NEW CHAMPIONS The tag-team title match is next and WWE is running a strong story-building vignette setting the scene for this match. This match has been arguably the least-built scrap on Saturday and Sunday. Entrances The New Day came to the ring in matching ring attire that looks like they are a part one of the new sub cultures introduced in Patch 8 of Baldur’s Gate. I mean that as a major compliment. In actuality, I believe it is a callout to Clash of Clans, which is a sponsor for this match. The logo and representation is all over the ring. Woods is rocking faux hawk with the sides braided, and it’s dope. The War Raiders have the vibe as well, though it’s not as loud. Some felt the New Day were paying homage to Giant Gonzalez. Celebrity Callouts Kittle got involved in a shouting match with the New Day before the match started. Jelly Roll got more screen time along with comedian Michael Che and actor Oshea Jackson Jr. Big Moments This move was crazy from Ivar. He did also come close to botching his signature moonsault. His foot appeared to slip, but he landed it without too much consequence. What’s with the quick wins tonight? Woods gets the pinfall victory thanks to Kofi assisting with leverage on Erik. This was the right call, but another oddly awkward ending. Jade Cargill def. Naomi Entrances Naomi’s new entrance has dumped the high-energy dance track and the neon light. It’s now all about metal music and caution tape. It’s a great look–especially for her new persona. Jade Cargill’s entrance had a local Las Vegas weatherman. Cargill emerged rocking her signature short hairstyle for premium live events and a gold trimmed attire that accentuates the storm concept. Both women have made a major statement with their entrance. Big Moments Cargill put on a power display in this one. Naomi was strong in support as she has been during the entire build, but this was about showing Cargill doing things no other woman in wrestling history has ever been able to do from a pure power standpoint. Cargill literally caught Naomi full dive and turned it into a jackhammer. Look at this: This finish was excellent too. Cargill and Naomi knocked it out of the park in this match. There was a Lil Yachty and Lilian Singh sighting in the crowd. United States Championship Match: Jacob Fatu def. LA Knight (c) – NEW CHAMPION Entrances Jacob Fatu began his ring walk with Solo Sikoa, but the latter didn’t walk the aisle with him. Fatu was wearing a werewolf mask, but he handed that to Solo. Sikoa took the mask and went backstage. LA Knight was chauffeured to the stage in a white Maserati. Big Moments This match has stolen the show, so far. Fatu and LA Knight put in work with a series of memorable spots. The crowd came alive for this one with chants for both men battling at the climax. The two sent the message early on that this one was going to be amazing. Knight gave up the title, but not before delivering these kinds of moments. He countered Fatu’s moonsault with a BFT. El Grande Americano def. Rey Fenix Fenix steps in for the legitimately injured Rey Mysterio. Entrances EGA came to the ring with traditional El Mariachi music, sepia tone and fully embracing his pseudo luchador persona. WWE and Fenix deserve credit for putting this entrance together on short notice. Celebrity Callouts White is there after all. The UFC CEO is shown in the audience. WWE has purchased the Mexican wrestling promotion, AAA and one of their stars, Vikingo got into the action a bit with EGA. Big Moments EGA aka Gable just pulled off a top-rope maneuver that I’ve ever seen before. Wow! A lot happened with EGA’s loaded mask, and all of it was amazing. Here’s the finish. You can tell this match was abbreviated due to the short-notice construction, but all things considered, it wasn’t horrible. On June 7, WWE-AAA will feature a live event Worlds Collide. Overall, I’d agree with Justin LaBar’s post. Shawn Michaels Announces the Attendance: 61,467 Celebrity Callouts Actor Stephen Amell and former UFC middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya are shown. WWE Women’s Championship Match: (c) Tiffany Stratton (c) def. Charlotte Flair Entrances Stratton entered the match in a custom Barbie box, and that was an awesome touch. Charlotte entered in a Rolls Royce and was the first performer to have pyro in her entrance, for whatever that is worth. Big Moments Charlotte spent most of the early moments of the match battering Stratton with some pretty stiff shots. Charlotte even took time to lay the groundwork for what might be her next feud. Hello Stephanie Vaquer. Charlotte pulls out the powerbomb. Fans can say what they want about Charlotte, but she is proving why she is the greatest woman in wrestling history. She is doing a masterful job of telling a story in this match. She’s dropping expertly placed soundbites mid-action and in some ways carrying some of the more physical moments. This match has been really good. Stratton retains with a Prettiest Moonsault Ever. As I said, great match. Daddy Flair agrees. 2025 WWE Hall of Fame Recap Peacock shows the best moments from the Hall of Fame scenario. The entire class took the stage and got their due. Triple Threat Main Event: Seth Rollins def. Roman Reigns and CM Punk Entrances Seth Rollins just something here. He came out dressed in all black with a branded flamethrower. The lights went black and he then appeared in all white and illuminated. Roman’s entrance nearly brought a tear to my eye. It is reserved, and he was alone, but when you look at the large LED screens, they are displaying members of the Samoan dynasty. It was beautiful. Put the ones in the air. CM Punk’s vignette might have been the best in history. Three words: This Fire Burns! In Living Colour sang him to the ring, and that was amazing too. Big Moments There have been so many amazing moments. It’s hard to keep it all straight. I’m just going to list them until the finish. Heyman has turned on Reigns and Punk with low blows to both to set Rollins up for the win. Now, if you're already looking ahead to tomorrow, here’s what’s set for Night 2. WrestleMania 41 Night Two Card (7 p.m. ET on April 20 on Peacock) Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. John Cena WWE Women’s World Championship Triple Threat: Iyo Sky (c) vs. Rhea Ripley vs. Bianca Belair Women’s Tag Team Championship: Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez (c) vs. Bayley & Lyra Valkyria Intercontinental Championship Fatal Four-Way: Bron Breakker (c) vs. Dominik Mysterio vs. Penta vs. Finn Bálor Sin City Street Fight: Damian Priest vs. Drew McIntyre AJ Styles vs. Logan Paul Randy Orton vs. ???0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 52 Views

WWW.DIGITALTRENDS.COMI bought a $12 Apple Watch Series 10, it’s bizarreTable of Contents Table of Contents Apple Watch in name and style But not in nature Apple could learn from this imitation One of my favorite things about Huaqiangbei, the world’s craziest tech market, is the diverse range of wares available in its various stalls. Visit this market in Shenzhen, China, and you’ll find thousands of small retailers selling a wide range of products, with the majority being branded or inspired by Apple. I found $9 AirPods Pro that were original and a great bargain, as well as a host of drones and other tech products. The strangest purchase? This $12 Apple Watch Series 10, which resembles the original Apple Watch at least until you start using it. Recommended Videos Here’s the story of a bizarre Apple Watch Series 10, which is, in fact, an Apple Watch, but also definitely isn’t. Related Nirave Gondhia / Digital Trends If you saw this on someone’s wrist, you’d immediately think it was an original Apple Watch. It features the same large display, digital crown, and power key that you’ll find on an official Apple Watch. Turn it over, and it also appears to be an official product, although it lacks some of the hallmarks that you’ll notice when you place it next to an authentic one. It features a ceramic case, a heart rate monitor, and comes with a sport band that is identical to an official Apple product. When you turn it on, there’s no setup; instead, it boots directly into the homescreen, which resembles Watch OS. Even the app drawer features the same zoomed-out view as on Apple’s products. Nirave Gondhia / Digital Trends There’s a host of apps that all feature the same icons as the Apple Watch and work well. There are also a few apps you won’t find preloaded on an Apple Watch, such as Alipay, which is one of the two super apps used by everyone in China in every part of daily life. There are also shameless copies of most Watch OS apps, including Activity, Workout, Messages, and much more. You could be fooled into thinking that this is an official Apple Watch. However, once you start to dig in further, you’ll quickly notice that it’s not an official Apple Watch. Nirave Gondhia / Digital Trends The most appealing thing about the Apple Watch is its connectivity to your iPhone. The least appealing thing about this Apple Watch? There’s no way to connect it to your phone, at least that I have found. To pair it, you first have to go into a settings menu that tries to mimic Watch OS, but fails miserably. Instead of the general menu, you have a universal menu, which is the result of a bad translation from Mandarin to English. At the bottom, there is an option to pair with a new phone, which generates a QR code that you need to scan with an app. However, there is no indication of which app to use for scanning. If you simply use your phone’s camera, it redirects you to a random Google search, which is the default behavior for most phones when they cannot recognize the endpoint for the QR code URL. I spent an hour trying to find a way to connect this, but to no avail. Nirave Gondhia / Digital Trends Beyond the lack of a companion app, there are also a few other notable aspects. The haptics are strange and activate in two stages. The touch response on the screen is considerably poorer than that of Apple’s products. There’s also a host of apps that are downright strange and do very little, such as one that lets you make it an AI Watch, whatever that means. Despite this, some people would be happy using this as their watch, especially given its price and a few of its features. Nirave Gondhia / Digital Trends As shocking as it sounds, Apple could learn from this watch. First, the app drawer features a kaleidoscope view that allows you to cycle through all installed apps in a more intuitive and user-friendly manner than the list or grid views, which are also available. Second, this Watch has slightly better step counting than the original Apple Watch Series 10 on my other wrist. The biggest surprise is that, aside from notifications and phone connection, this is fundamentally a good watch. It accurately displays the time, and the fitness and activity features work. Although it lacks the polish of an official product, and you’ll likely never receive an update, it’s available for a fraction of the price. Nirave Gondhia / Digital Trends Dubbed the Watch S10 Pro, it’s not a Pro watch and doesn’t offer the full experience of an Apple Watch, but could be ideal as a starter watch for a child or if you’re extremely limited by budget. After all, it costs less than 5% of a real Apple Watch and offers considerably more than a $10 watch you could buy anywhere else. For most people, that’s a worthwhile trade-off, even if it won’t be making its way onto any best smartwatches list anytime soon. Editors’ Recommendations0 Yorumlar 0 hisse senetleri 50 Views

He said some Western tech companies turn a blind eye to existing rules. Sacks said the Bureau of Industry and Security could use more resources to enforce export controls. David Sacks, the White House's AI and crypto czar, is a strong proponent of DOGE's work to slash the size of the US government. But one area he said could use more resources is at a little-mentioned federal agency, the Bureau of Industry and Security, which enforces export controls on US-made chips.During Friday's episode of the All-In podcast, Sacks said China continues to get its hands on regulated chips from the US despite export controls."I think clearly the shell companies, the front companies, are set up by either the Chinese government or entities in China to evade the export controls because ultimately they want the chips," Sacks said. The US government has implemented restrictions and rules around China's ability to get US semiconductors, including those from Nvidia. On Wednesday, Nvidia said it expects a multibillion-dollar charge due to a licensing requirement to send H20 chips to China. The White House advisor added that another issue is that Western companies will ignore where their chips end up."I do think there are a lot of Western companies that will look the other way or turn a blind eye and just haven't been enforcing the rules as religiously as they should because it's profitable not to," he said. "This is where I do think that the US government has to be pretty tough."Sacks said there needs to be a crackdown on loopholes companies may use to send their chips overseas, and more monitoring and inspection.According to Sacks, doing so would require more resources for the Bureau of Industry and Security, which is under the Department of Commerce's purview.Sacks said he felt the agency was "understaffed relative to the importance" of enforcing export controls."This is one of the few areas of the government that I actually think needs more resources," Sacks said.A BIS spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
