The oppressive foundation of minimalist design
What we call “good design” may just be cultural conformity in disguise.Image source: Adobe StockMinimalism is often celebrated for its elegance, restraint, and efficiency. In the design industry, it’s treated like gospel — remove the unnecessary, emphasize hierarchy, and let form follow function. But beneath this aesthetic lies a deeper inquiry — one rarely discussed in design circles. Whose values are we actually glorifying when we praise minimalism? And more provocatively, is minimalist design, in all its refined simplicity, a quiet form of oppression — a systematic vehicle for cultural exclusion? An exclusion that determines whose aesthetics are elevated, whose are silently dismissed, and who is left to navigate the system as an outsider. The Aesthetic of ControlMinimalism thrives on clarity, structure, and hierarchy — traits that align neatly with Enlightenment thinking and Western ideals of logic, order, and reductionism. These values, while seemingly universal, are not. They stem from a particular historical and cultural context, one rooted in dominance, colonization, and control.Philosopher Michel Foucault might say that design — like architecture or language — is a “technology of power.” The grid systems we use, the margins we enforce, the insistence on whitespace and alignment — they’re all part of a system that reflects not just taste, but a worldview. Minimal design doesn’t just organize information — it disciplines it.The Grid Bible | Image source: AmazonAnd perhaps, as the Philosopher Frederich Nietzsche would argue, it does something even deeper — it reflects a will to power. Not through brute force, but through aesthetic order. Through reduction and restraint, minimalism asserts control. It tells you what matters by erasing what doesn’t. And in doing so, it enacts a subtle hierarchy — not just of elements, but of culture. The Myth of NeutralityMinimalism often presents itself as neutral. But neutrality, in design, is a myth. Neutral to whom? A layout built on sparse text, generous white space, and rigid hierarchy may feel “clean” to some — but sterile, even alienating, to others. Especially for cultures that value ornamentation, symbolism, or layered narrative over reduction and restraint. And then there are the symbols. The hamburger menu. The magnifying glass. The three dots that mean “more.” These icons aren’t self-evident — they’re shorthand for those who already know. Minimalism often depends on this kind of silent agreement. It strips away labels and context, assuming users will intuit meaning from minimal cues. But what we call intuitive is often just familiar — familiar to a specific group. In this way, simplicity becomes a private language. It doesn’t invite everyone in — it filters them out. What’s praised as “uncluttered” might simply be inaccessible, making it not just about taste — but about power and privilege.Brutalist web design | Source: https://blog.hubspot.com/website/brutalist-website-designBrutalist design — both online and in architecture — challenges the minimalist ideal by embracing what minimalism rejects — asymmetry, texture, and visual noise. These elements disrupt uniformity and invite interpretation. They reflect the messiness of real life — imperfect, layered, unresolved.Similarly, many Indigenous design traditions resist reduction through symbolic patterns, storytelling, and vibrant color. These aren’t just stylistic flourishes — they’re carriers of memory, identity, and worldview. When minimalism erases the canvas, it risks erasing the meaning too.Even typography isn’t exempt. The dominance of sans-serif fonts in digital design — often framed as modern and professional — isn’t a neutral choice. It’s a cultural one. Helvetica doesn’t feel clean by accident. It feels clean because we’ve been trained to believe it does.Nietzsche, the Grid, and the Will to OrderNietzsche argued that our obsession with order stems from a fear of chaos — a need to impose structure on a world that resists it. The minimalist grid may be less about elegance and more about control. We reduce the world to systems so we can dominate it. Design, in this sense, becomes an act of taming — not understanding. When minimalism flattens all complexity in the name of user-friendliness, it risks becoming what Nietzsche might call Apollonian tyranny — a world ruled by order, logic, and restraint.Nietzsche, borrowing from Greek mythology, frames Apollo as the god of order and rationality, and Dionysus as the god of chaos and passion. Minimalism tends to side with Apollo — favoring clarity and control — but in doing so, it often silences the raw, emotional power of the Dionysian.“Apollo and Dionysus” by Leonid IlyukhinMinimalism as Symbolic ActionAnd it’s not just minimal aesthetics that carry this bias — it’s the language of minimalist design itself. Sparse microcopy and the omission of language in favor of sleek labels — these aren’t just usability decisions. They’re rhetorical choices that reflect cultural values.Rhetorician Kenneth Burke reminds us that language is never neutral — it’s symbolic action, a way of acting in the world, not just describing it. While Western rhetorical traditions often elevate clarity, reduction, and efficiency, Burke forces us to challenge that ideal. He argues that every language system is a terministic screen — a filter that directs our attention toward some ideas while pushing others into the background.Take microcopy, for instance. A feedback form might feature a single minimalist button labeled “Submit.” It’s sterile, authoritative — a final command issued to the user. But change it to “Send Your Feedback” or “Post Your Response,” and something shifts. The system no longer demands compliance — it invites participation. The interface becomes less like a machine, more like a conversation. Language doesn’t just label the action — it defines the relationship. That’s something minimalism often strips away.Inclusive Design Requires Philosophical CourageIf design is to be inclusive, we must first admit that our definition of “good” design is not universal. We have to dig deeper — past aesthetic preference, usability heuristics, and even language — and ask ourselves who we’re really designing for. Are we simplifying, or are we erasing? Are we guiding users, or are we training them to comply?Design theorist Anne-Marie Willis talks about “ontological designing” — the idea that design not only shapes products, but shapes us. If we keep reinforcing the same aesthetic systems, such as minimalism, we’re not just shaping interfaces — we’re shaping minds. We are, consciously or not, encoding dominant cultural values into every decision we make.Toward a Pluralistic Design EthicThe solution isn’t to abandon minimalism — but to reframe it.Minimalism should be seen not as a universal truth, but as one design dialect among many — shaped by specific histories, values, and assumptions. Just as language expands to include more voices, so should design. This begins with intentional plurality. Rather than defaulting to one aesthetic framework, we should make space for multiple design traditions — each with its own logic of clarity, rhythm, symbolism, and structure. These aren’t embellishments — they’re entire systems of meaning.Practice contextual minimalism. Use restraint when it serves the message, not just because it’s trendy. In some contexts, simplicity communicates trust. In others, richness communicates truth.Design for the unfamiliar. Don’t assume fluency in minimalist language. Use labels, provide orientation, layer meaning. Accessibility isn’t just about ability — it’s about meeting people where they are, culturally and cognitively.Allow aesthetic code-switching. Great design systems can flex. A product’s interface can be calm and clear in one moment, and expressive in another — depending on context, purpose, and audience.Inclusive design isn’t about flattening everything into neutral sameness. It’s about designing with humility, curiosity, and a willingness to let go of sacred cows.Final ThoughtMinimalism isn’t oppressive by default. But when it becomes the default, it can quietly reinforce power by erasing culturally diverse perspectives. If we want a truly inclusive design practice, we have to be willing to question even the most celebrated rules of our craft.Because sometimes, complexity is the truer path to clarity.Don’t miss out! Join my email list and receive the latest content. The oppressive foundation of minimalist design was originally published in UX Collective on Medium, where people are continuing the conversation by highlighting and responding to this story.

    The best keyboards for 2025
A good keyboard can make all the difference for your work setup. If you primarily work on a laptop, switching from the built-in keyboard to a wired or wireless keyboard can be more comfortable and ergonomic while adding functionality like extra keys and shortcuts into the mix. If your daily driver is a desktop, a keyboard will be an essential accessory that can elevate your rig whether you're using it to work a 9-to-5 with it or play AAA games in your free time. But the world of keyboards is vast, and we at Engadget have tried out dozens over the years including gaming keyboards, ergonomic keyboards, mechanical keyboards and more. If you're just starting to think about the best keyboard for you, or you're ready to upgrade from an aging peripheral, we gathered all of our top picks for the best keyboards you can get right here. Best keyboards for 2025 What to look for in a keyboard Design Size The first thing you’ll want to consider when it comes to your next keyboard’s design is size. There are a number of different keyboard layouts to choose from, but the most common are full-sized, tenkeyless and those smaller than tenkeyless. Full-sized keyboards, or 100 percent, include a function row at the top and a complete number pad with arrow keys on the right side, along with all of the rest of the alphanumeric keys you’d expect. Tenkeyless, or 80 percent, removes the number pad but keeps the arrow keys and the function row, reducing the overall width measurement of the board by a decent amount. Compact designs keep things ultra simple by including only the alphanumeric keys and modifiers like Alt, Shift, Ctrl and others and they come in different sizes like 60 percent, 65 percent and more. These are the most popular sizes out there, but you can find plenty of other designs that include different mixes of keys along with the standard letters and numbers all should have. Aside from size, there are two other big categories that you could use to define a keyboard: ergonomic and mechanical. Ergonomic keyboards are designed with, you guessed it, better ergonomics in mind, taking into account where you should position your fingers, hands and forearms to maintain proper posture. Separately, mechanical keyboards use mechanical switches (of which there are many types) that differ greatly from the membrane or scissor-switch keyboards you’ll find dominating most wired and wireless options widely available today. We have guides to the best ergonomic keyboards and best mechanical keyboards, but we’ll summarize what you need to know about both here. Ergonomic keyboards If you deal with discomfort from working at a computer all day, ergonomic keyboards can help. These specially designed boards re-orient the keys, allowing you to hold your elbows farther apart and maintain a straighter line from your forearms to hands. Some people find this subtle change more comfortable. Ergonomic keyboards typically fall into two categories: Alice and split. The former is a single unit with an A-shaped gap in the center of the keys. Split models come in two separate pieces which you can arrange as you like on your desk. Additional ergonomic features like tenting and negative tilt can make typing feel even more comfortable, and are often available on both Alice and split boards. Tenting raises the middle of the keys up so your hands take on more of a “handshake” position. Negative tilting lowers the top of the keyboard to keep your wrists angled downward instead of back towards your forearms. The way the keys are arranged on the keyboard may make typing easier as well. Traditionally, keyboards are staggered, with one row of letters slightly offset from the row beneath it. Columnar keyboards arrange the keys in a grid of rows and columns. This style takes a little getting used to, but some people find it allows them to type faster. You can also make the keys of some keyboards do more than just produce letters. Programmable boards let you map shortcuts and other functions, which may keep you from reaching for the mouse quite so often, saving you time and possibly strain as well. Mechanical keyboards Mechanical keyboards have blown up in popularity as more people have been thrust into creating their own workspaces at home. It’s easy to see why: Compared to a traditional membrane keyboard, a good mechanical board is more durable, more satisfying to press and, most importantly, infinitely more customizable. The best of them usually come with a price premium, but even some cheaper models let you “hot-swap” between keycaps, switches and other materials, letting you tinker with different typing sensations and sound profiles until you find a combination that best expresses your preferences. Do you want each press to feel deep and full or fast and light? Do you need them to sound loud and clacky or almost totally muffled? Do you prefer your keycaps to look subdued and professional, stuffed with RGB lights or written in an Elvish language from The Lord of the Rings for some reason? With the right mechanical keyboard, it’s all up to you — the only things really holding you back are your imagination and your wallet. We have a dedicated buying guide that digs deeper into the key aspects to consider when buying a mechanical keyboard, so we encourage you to look at that for a full rundown. To keep things high-level, the most influential part of your purchase is your keyboard’s switch type. These little mechanisms slot underneath the keycaps and generally have the biggest effect on how your keyboard feels and sounds as you type away. You can broadly separate mechanical switches into three buckets: linear, tactile and clicky. Linear switches feel smooth all the way down; they’re often popular with gamers since they tend to be light and fast to actuate. Tactile switches create a tangible “bump” sensation partway through a press; many people who spend all day typing prefer them because they clearly confirm each press without (always) being all that loud. Clicky switches are functionally similar to tactiles but make an audible “click” sound to match the bump; your coworkers may hate them, but others love the full-throated sense of feedback they provide. To be clear, just because two switches fall within the same bucket doesn’t mean they feel or sound exactly the same. The only way to figure out which switch works best for you is to do your research and, preferably, try some out for yourself. Other keyboards have a mechanical-style feel but are built on different mechanisms entirely. The hot new trend in gaming-focused keyboards, for example, is Hall effect switches, which use tiny magnets to register keystrokes and let you customize the sensitivity of each press. Optical switches, meanwhile, offer similar functionality by replacing the physical contact point of a typical mechanical switch with a beam of infrared light. More recently, we’ve seen a couple keyboards launch with inductive switches, which can work like magnetic switches but use inductive coils in the keyboard’s printed circuit board (PCB) to cater to all switches collectively and don’t require a sensor for each individual switch. We touch on a couple of magnetic-switch keyboards in our picks below, but for a fuller breakdown of this sort of tech, we recommend you check out our dedicated buying guide to the best gaming keyboards. Connectivity You’ve got two options here: wired or wireless. Wired keyboards typically have an attached cable that plugs into a USB-A or USB-C port on your computer (or docking station), although some come with cables that can be removed. Wireless keyboards connect to your machine either via Bluetooth or a wireless receiver dongle. There’s always the chance of some latency with wireless keyboards, so keep that in mind if you’re picking one up to use primarily with a gaming PC. Of course, you’ll only have to worry about battery life with wireless keyboards. This article originally appeared on Engadget at https://www.engadget.com/computing/accessories/best-keyboard-120000018.html?src=rss

Thinking of moving out of the U.S? Here are 10 hotspots for remote workers
As remote work becomes the norm rather than the exception, more U.S. professionals are redefining what it means to live and work well. With soaring living costs, healthcare hurdles, and burnout increasingly baked into American life, many are choosing to build their careers abroad. This shift isn’t just about finding cheaper rent or a temporary escape. It’s about discovering countries that actively welcome remote workers through smart visa policies, strong infrastructure, and communities that foster sustainable, fulfilling lifestyles. From Asia’s tech hubs to Europe’s historic towns, these 10 destinations are leading the remote work revolution and offering a chance to truly engage, not just pass through. Here’s where to go and why these spots are setting the standard for the future of work. 1. Spain Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa officially launched in 2023, quickly becoming one of the most attractive remote work programs in Europe. Available to non-EU nationals, including U.S. citizens, the visa allows remote workers to live and work in Spain for up to 12 months, with the option to renew for up to five years. Applicants must be employed by a non-Spanish company or freelance for international clients and demonstrate a minimum income of around €2,762.66. Visa holders are eligible for a 24% flat tax rate for the first four years, capped at €600,000/year, making it especially appealing for higher-earning nomads and entrepreneurs.Shane Clark, President of EuroAmerican Financial Advisors, has been based in Spain for the past eight years advising Americans moving abroad. “We’ve noticed a huge uplift in inquiries since the election last year that hasn’t slowed. Election results always provide a catalyst for people who were considering moving anyway, but this time, it has been turbocharged. Spain offers a relaxed lifestyle, affordable living costs, and great digital infrastructure in the cities. Many remote professionals are headed to cities like Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona, and the Balearic Islands, where they’re finding a lifestyle that blends Mediterranean ease with modern urban energy. Spain offers reliable internet, a growing number of coworking hubs, and strong communities of international creatives and founders. Beyond the vibrant cities, Spain’s regional diversity makes it easy to find your perfect balance, whether that’s vineyard views in La Rioja, surf breaks in the Canary Islands, or slow living in Andalusia. Affordable high-speed rail connects much of the country, and the cost of living remains lower than most Western European countries, especially outside of major metros.  2. Portugal Cities like Lisbon, Porto, and Braga have emerged as thriving hubs for remote workers, offering reliable high-speed internet, a lively creative and startup scene, and a warm, welcoming community of international professionals. Portugal’s Digital Nomad Visa is an ideal solution for remote workers, freelancers, and entrepreneurs looking to live and work legally in Portugal. The visa allows non-EU/EEA citizens to apply for either a short-term stay or a long-term residence permit. To qualify, applicants must earn at least €3,480 per month from foreign income, provide proof of accommodation, obtain a Portuguese tax number, and typically open a Portuguese bank account. The D8 Visa also allows for family reunification, provides access to Portugal’s excellent public healthcare system, and offers a pathway to permanent residency or citizenship after five years—making it a top choice for global remote professionals.“Portugal meanwhile has the advantage of being an hour nearer the U.S. in terms of its time zone,” finishes Clark. “Another driver for Americans moving to Portugal is that property is very affordable in southern Europe compared to in many parts of the U.S.. In particular we are seeing a lot of tech industry workers coming over from northern California to work remotely and experience a different lifestyle and culture in Europe.” Portugal offers sun-drenched coastlines, charming cobblestone neighborhoods, and a relaxed pace that makes room for inspiration and balance. Add in easy Schengen access, strong safety rankings, and a national obsession with good food and great coffee, and it’s easy to see why Portugal is a place to stay and thrive. 3. Japan In March 2024, Japan officially launched its Digital Nomad Visa under the “Designated Activities” residence category, opening the door for remote workers around the world to live and work in the country for up to six months. To qualify, applicants must earn at least 10 million JPY annually (approximately $67,000 USD), hold citizenship in a visa-exempt country with a tax treaty with Japan, and have valid private health insurance. Remote work must be for companies or clients based outside of Japan, and dependents, including spouses and children are permitted to join.  Japan’s appeal to remote professionals goes far beyond its big cities. Locations like Hinohara Village, tucked in the mountains just 90 minutes from Tokyo, are building digital infrastructure with remote workers in mind—offering fiber-optic internet, free public Wi-Fi, and English-language support rolling out in April 2025. Over 93% forested, the area blends nature and connectivity for a peaceful but productive lifestyle. Hinohara is also launching dedicated accommodations for work stays in 2025, making it easier for nomads to explore long-term relocation options without committing upfront. From Tokyo’s booming tech scene and unmatched internet speeds to rural regions investing in modern infrastructure, Japan is positioning itself as a compelling hub for international remote work. Add in low crime rates, reliable public transit, and a rich cultural landscape, and it’s easy to see why this new visa could be a game changer for digital nomads seeking stability and inspiration. 4. Estonia Estonia was one of the first countries in the world to roll out a dedicated Digital Nomad Visa, positioning itself as a forward-thinking hub for remote professionals and startup founders. Introduced in 2020, the visa allows non-EU nationals to live in Estonia for up to 12 months while working remotely for a foreign employer or running their own location-independent business. Applicants need to demonstrate a minimum monthly income of €4,500 net income and meet basic documentation requirements—but the process is streamlined, with an application system that reflects Estonia’s digital-first mindset. Known globally for its e-residency program, paperless government, and startup-friendly policies, Estonia has earned its reputation as a digital leader. Tallinn, the capital, combines cobblestone charm with tech-world efficiency, offering ultrafast Wi-Fi, an active community of international entrepreneurs, and coworking spaces tucked inside medieval buildings.  5. Thailand Thailand continues to be a go-to for digital nomads seeking a blend of affordability, connectivity, and tropical charm. With its welcoming visa policies and thriving expat scene, the country makes it easy to stay productive while living in paradise. While many nomads enter on a 60-day tourist visa (often extendable), Thailand also offers the Smart Visa, a long-term option for highly skilled professionals in fields like tech, health, and innovation. The Smart Visa allows remote workers, entrepreneurs, and investors to stay for up to four years, bypassing the usual work permit requirements and streamlining the path to longer-term living. Top hubs like Chiang Mai and Bangkok offer everything a remote worker could ask for: high-speed internet, modern coworking spaces, great coffee scenes, and a lower cost of living. Chiang Mai, in particular, has earned a reputation for its laid-back vibe and strong sense of creative community. Bangkok brings a more metropolitan pace, complete with major airport access, and a growing number of international tech startups. Beyond the cities, Thailand’s beaches and islands provide a slower, more scenic way to work remotely. Places like Phuket, Koh Lanta, and Koh Phangan are now home to coworking cafés and coliving villas that cater to digital professionals.  6. Mexico Mexico remains one of the most popular destinations for U.S. digital nomads, combining visa flexibility, strong infrastructure, and a lifestyle rich in culture, cuisine, and community. Through its Temporary Resident Visa, remote workers from most countries can stay in Mexico for up to 12 months initially, with the option to renew for a total of four years.  Cities like Mexico City, Oaxaca, Playa del Carmen, and Mérida have quickly become global hotspots for remote workers. You’ll find reliable internet, vibrant coworking spaces, and tight-knit expat communities in nearly every major destination. Mexico City stands out for its dynamic creative and tech scene, world-class food, and endless energy, while beach towns along the Riviera Maya offer oceanfront living without sacrificing connectivity.  7. South Korea South Korea is rapidly becoming one of the most exciting destinations for remote workers, thanks to its brand-new Digital Nomad Visa—officially launched in early 2024. Known locally as the “Workation Visa,” this program allows foreign nationals employed by overseas companies to live and work in South Korea for up to one year, with the option to extend for another. To qualify, applicants must show proof of remote employment, an annual income of at least 85 million KRW (about $63,000 USD), and valid health insurance. The visa also supports accompanying family members, making it a strong choice for both solo professionals and digital nomad families. At the center of the action is Seoul—a city built for high performance. With some of the fastest internet speeds in the world, an abundance of 24-hour cafés, cutting-edge infrastructure, and a thriving startup scene, it’s a digital haven that never sleeps. Yet beneath the tech-forward surface lies a culture rich in tradition, hospitality, and creativity.  For those craving a more relaxed remote lifestyle, Jeju Island is an underrated gem. This volcanic island offers black-sand beaches, waterfalls, hiking trails, and a growing digital infrastructure geared toward remote work. The island is part of South Korea’s push to support “Workation Zones,” offering extended-stay housing, coworking facilities, and nature-infused productivity. With a cost of living approximately 30% lower than major U.S. cities, South Korea provides a dynamic, well-connected, and culturally rich environment for remote professionals ready to plug in and thrive. 8. Vietnam From the buzz of Ho Chi Minh City to the coastal calm of Da Nang, this Southeast Asian gem offers an unbeatable blend of affordability and creative energy. Coworking spaces can be found for under $100/month, and you’ll find sleek, modern apartments starting around $300. Whether you’re deep into a product launch or writing your next screenplay, the low cost of living gives you a serious runway to build, breathe, and grow. If you’re earning your income from abroad, Vietnam doesn’t tax it—making it an especially attractive spot for freelancers, founders, and remote teams. Most nomads come intending to stay a few months and end up recalibrating their entire life plan.Tom Zachystal from International Asset Management has been advising Americans abroad on investing and retirement planning for over 20 years. “We’ve definitely seen some shifts in who’s moving abroad and the most popular countries Americans are moving to. There used to be more retirees and American firms sending employees abroad, whereas in the past few years the majority are now young entrepreneurs, digital nomads, and young families, with a sense of adventure and a desire to explore being major motivations. Do your planning and seek advice though—many people don’t realize for example that not all U.S. banks and brokerage firms can continue working with non-U.S. residents.” 9. Norway Norway offers one of the most seamless and inspiring remote work environments in the world. With world-renowned rankings in safety, healthcare, infrastructure, and overall quality of life, it’s a destination where everything just works—efficiently, beautifully, and reliably. Whether you’re based in Oslo, Bergen, or a small village tucked between fjords, you’ll find high-speed internet, clean design, and a strong sense of balance between work and nature. Public services are excellent, and the overall standard of living makes Norway a standout for those who prioritize well-being and focus. While Norway doesn’t currently offer a dedicated digital nomad visa, there are flexible pathways for remote professionals. The Self-Employed Person residence permit allows freelancers and entrepreneurs to live and work in Norway, provided they have a signed contract with a Norwegian client, a detailed business plan, and a projected annual income of at least €35,719 (approx. 439,521 NOK). Additionally, remote workers connected to startups, innovation hubs, or cross-border collaborations can explore alternative residence options through Norway’s Skilled Worker and Startup tracks. The application process is straightforward, with clear guidance and strong institutional support. Cities like Oslo blend modern culture with smart coworking spaces, while towns like Tromsø and Ålesund offer access to unfiltered nature without losing digital connectivity. 10. Georgia Georgia has emerged as new hotspot digital nomads thanks to its forward-thinking “Remotely from Georgia” program, which allows citizens from 95+ countries to live and work in the country visa-free for up to one year. Launched in 2020 to support the rise of remote work, the initiative requires basic documentation—like proof of remote income (recommended at $2,000/month or more), health insurance, and a confirmed place to stay. With an easy online application process and a welcoming stance toward expats, it’s become one of the most accessible digital nomad programs in the world. Tbilisi, the capital, is where most nomads set up base—drawn in by its cobblestone streets, vibrant café culture, and growing startup scene. You can live comfortably in the city for under $700/month, with coworking spaces, boutique Airbnbs, and lively expat meetups throughout the week. The country also offers major financial incentives: a 1% flat tax for registered entrepreneurs under Georgia’s Small Business Status (up to ~$155,000 annual turnover), making it especially attractive for freelancers, solo founders, and remote consultants looking to optimize their tax strategy. If you’re thinking of making the leap abroad, it’s not just about picking the right destination—it’s also about staying compliant with U.S. tax laws and understanding what financial responsibilities follow you across borders.Vincenzo Villamena, founder of Online Taxman, has been a digital nomad for over 15 years, living and working in different countries around the world. “Most Americans don’t realize that they have to keep filing U.S. taxes when they move abroad, and this is something that they should definitely factor in. Luckily, there are tax breaks such as the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion for Americans working abroad. Remote working became normalized in the pandemic, which also inspired a desire in many people to go out and explore the world. We now work with thousands of American international digital nomads, both entrepreneurs and those working remotely for US firms. In general, I would say, get informed about both U.S. taxes for expats and the local tax implications of different digital nomad visas, and seek advice if you need to.”As more Americans rethink what success, freedom, and quality of life really mean, the global map is shifting. Whether you’re chasing sunlight, savings, community, or simply a change of pace, the world awaits.

From futuristic, cyberpunk-inspired racers to nostalgic tributes that pay homage to pop culture classics, the latest electric bikes are as much about personal expression as they are about efficient transportation. Here we have curated ten of the most exciting electric bikes that every automotive enthusiast needs to see. The Ayra’s silhouette draws heavily from cyberpunk influences, boasting a stretched front, integrated handlebars, and a monoshock swingarm setup both front and rear. These features contribute to a low, aggressive stance and exceptional stability. Its wide wheelbase distributes the bike’s mass for a balanced riding experience, making it suitable for both straight-line speed and tight urban maneuvering. What truly distinguishes Ayra is its attention to performance details, like the hunter-eye headlight design and streamlined frame. What we like Striking cyberpunk aesthetic turns heads and signals next-generation design. Aerodynamic build and wide wheelbase offer a stable, agile ride. What we dislike Lack of detailed specs means performance expectations are based on design hints, not real-world data. Aggressive styling may not appeal to riders seeking a more understated look. 2.  DAB 1α Motorbike   Taking cues from BMX culture, video games, and the sci-fi genre, the DAB 1α is a production-ready electric bike that merges nostalgia with modern engineering. Its blue Nitro button, reminiscent of the Need For Speed franchise, injects playful energy into the riding experience. Its roots in gaming culture and trail bike performance ensure it feels at home on city streets and off-road paths. What we like Lightweight frame and gearless throttle ensure a smooth, fast ride. Nostalgic gaming-inspired features and limited edition appeal. What we dislike Limited production means availability could be an issue for many enthusiasts. High-tech features and styling may not suit those seeking a classic motorcycle experience. 3. Segway Cyber Segway’s Xyber is an electric bike that combines rugged performance with a cyberpunk aesthetic, designed for both urban adventures and rougher terrains. At its core is a powerful 6,000-watt direct-drive motor pushing out 175 Nm of torque, allowing the bike to sprint from 0 to 20 mph in just 2.7 seconds. With a top speed of 35 mph, Xyber offers a thrilling ride for enthusiasts who crave a blend of speed and utility. Niche appeal may not resonate with riders who prefer subtlety or modern minimalism. 6. What we like Transparent bodywork and recycled materials create a unique, eco-friendly look. Advanced dashboard and lighting offer both function and futuristic style. What we dislike See-through design may not appeal to those who prefer classic or concealed aesthetics. Specialized materials could increase repair or replacement costs. 7.
